Nice Article, very funny! My favorite part of your article was this line "the world never gets punished." :)

continuation of the previous post:
The characters, both the leads & the supporting roles, are multilayers. Moreover, the characters are not static, they face so many challenges and their decisions creates/polishes their personalities.

This is a very emotionally heavy drama, there is so much going on that sometimes I was happy that my life was busy and I had to take a few hours between episodes. That way I could take in what has happened and digest it before continuing watching the next.

I would find myself thinking about the story & different characters' decisions days, even weeks after finishing the drama. To be honest sometime even now I still think about it, about what I would have done if it were me in that situation.

though I'm kind of scared that you won't like it, but I want to discuss it with you so I recommend it!

The Princess' Man is one of my all time favorite dramas! I find it very unique. The writers weren't afraid to go to extremes here. It choses some of the darkest/most complicated sets of emotions that human has and explored them to their limit.

The story is amazing, everything happens so naturally that it's kind of scary -cause there are some stuff you hope they stay in dramas-. It starts with a very normal/happy ppl/environment. We get familiar with them and enjoy their lives, then suddenly all hell breaks loose. It is intense, tearjerking but an extremely rewarding drama.

Lol ! no need to say sorry!! I've noticed that I get super nervous when recommending my favorite dramas to someone. Not sure if I'm more worried about the drama failing me, or the person!

I know what you mean ... ppl tend to watch movies/read books for entertainment. but I want something more than that, I want something so well done that not only it would engage my thoughts and feelings, but also it would leave me pondering about life.
I don't know that many other sites that have reviews, so I basically just check the reviews here in MDL, and try to read reviews of all the different ratings. I'll also check it out on Asianwiki.com just to get a sense of how ppl received it. One other thing that I've recently found useful is to look at statistics of the movie in MDL. it's not 100% reliable but it gives me some sense of how good the drama is.

I think the genre that I would always willingly pick would be action, I just like the excitement that comes with it!

I also enjoy darker subjects, since they take me out of my comfort zone and make me think deeply.

I completely understand what you mean that "something needs to stick out" that's exactly how I feel as well. There has to be an "aha moment" for the drama to be special for me; something that moves me to my core. So I'm desperately chasing dramas for it! all the dramas that i've voted 10 and many of the 9s had that aha moment!

In general I like something revolutionary. I don't necessarily mean a revolution itself, but a revolution within one him/herself. Because it's only then that it could create the same kind of effect within me.

I heard about A Man's Story! it sounds very interesting I think I'll give it a try ( after my midterm though ... ah I hate tests!) I've never watched any dramas with Kim Kang Woo so it might be a good introduction to him !

I know, the more I watch the more picky I become! I don't start anything before reading tons of reviews about it, checking the rating, and checking how some of my friends have rated it! lol !!

The story lines that I tend to enjoy the most are the ones where the characters set a goal, face all the challenges and overcome it all. something well written that makes you think, that leaves you wonder what you would have done if it was you. I love plots with philosophical/psychological aspect integrated in them.

I hate indecisive characters, stupid characters <= ( this one ticks me off so much!! well) , weak characters. I want my characters to be strong (not in terms of physical strength but mental strength, they should be capable individuals) & smart.

so yeah, that's all I can think of right now!!
If you know any drama that fits my description please let me know!!
what kind of dramas are you looking for?

It's hard to say what kind of dramas I like, since I can almost like anything. but here I try to kind of summarize what I enjoy/despise the most.

The first important thing in any story for me is for it to follow a logical pattern. Any story defines it's own world/rules from the beginning, like this one is fantasy where this and that can happen, this one is fiction, this one has this kind of character. If the story suddenly changes its course/ if a character does something completely out of its character then that drama is done for me, I can never enjoy it as much! (obviously it all depends on how absurd it was though.)
Also, I hate it when the writers make a twist so horribly written that makes me feel they have offended my intelligence.

I agree with you about a lot of romance dramas not having much of a story going on.

I think that's because romance is one of the easiest/cheapest genre to make a drama on and usually the most popular ones. So out of all the genres there are more romance dramas which by default increases the probability of find a badly made romance drama than any other genre.

I'm a very passionate/romantic person, so I like having romance in my dramas/stories. That being said, the story has to be well written, engaging and have a certain level of depth to it for me to enjoy. Unfortunately since most of the romance dramas are very badly written it's very hard to find one that I truly enjoy!

lol ! I know !!! I was so disappointed when the amnesia route started! I felt like the drama just turned horribly wrong and all that was great was gone with the stupid decision to add amnesia to the plot!
But I don't know, I loved how Soo Ha handled the situation. It could have gone terribly wrong but it didn't -- at least for me. (though it was a close call)

To be honest I hear your voice has many things that I don't like: amnesia, noona as a love interest ...
what makes the story special for me is the characters/character development. I love Lee Bo Young's feisty personality, Lee Jong Suk's caring and protective personality and their relationship.

I didn't know that about TEN, now I'm not sure if I want to watch it anymore or not! LOL! I kind of like Joo Sang Wook and want to watch more dramas of him to see the extend of his acting.

I'm still unsure about Cunning Single Lady ... well even though I've watch 4 episodes, it seems like not much has happened. It feels so much like the beginning, before the actual plot twist/main plot of the drama. SO I'm basically waiting to see if anything happens!
I love the leads ( specially Lee Min Jung, she was amazing in Smile, You) so I just enjoy watching her act! I think I'm gonna keep watching it, it's not stupid, just kind of anticlimactic.

How could this drama beat Bridal Mask!!!!! THIS IS UNFAIR. I like Kim Soo Hyun very much and he's one of my favorite…
well, I don't know how the ranking system works here (like what algorithm do they take into account: what ratio between the rankings and the number of voters is used, or if they take into account the rating of ppl who haven't finished or dropped the drama or not). But if you take a look at the highest ranking dramas, you'll notice that a very high percentage of them are 2013 dramas. If you think of it via probability, it is impossible for so many 2013 dramas to be so much better than the MANY dramas that have came before that.

one reason can simply be that the recent dramas are more popular with the MDL users and so they get more ratings, and if they are good they might jump a head of much better dramas that don't have enough votes.

So to be honest I don't bother myself much with the rating, it's rather arbitrary.

3- it seems like it will be episodic, and I don't really like episodic action tv shows/mangas/books basically anything. I enjoy it the most when there is a main direction which the movie/story is heading toward, then I don't mind it having "small" subplots/episodes. Although, I haven't watched enough to know if it's really episodic or not (which kind of makes me want to watch more).

well, but the reasons I want to watch it is that it has high ratings, it has all my favorite genres and the main actor is super cute :D!

so I'm still waiting to see if I feel like watching it or not :D

I'm so sorry I sent so many messages! I seem to have too much to say, much more than the character limits for each message anyways!

As for Bloody Monday, I've been on the first episode for the last 3 weeks. I was seriously debating between dropping it or not. the thing is I LOVE reading mangas, but I don't enjoy watching the anime of my mangas as much as reading them, and I've noticed I don't enjoy watching movie's adaptation of my mangas at all! So that's the problem I have with bloody monday:
1-it was a manga, but the manga version was not that famous => why is that? is the story not that attractive?
2-Japanese usually don't change the "feel" when making a movie adaptation of mangas, which means the movie still feels like a manga and not a movie. This is a huge turn off for me since ppl are not manga characters and I find it very disturbing when they behave like one.

I know Park Si On is so precious!

I watched cruel city again a while ago! it was just as amazing the second time around if not better.

I'm watching some of the airing ones now, I don't like empress ki as much as I thought I would I have many issues with it ! lol! but emergency couple is good it got boring for 1-2 episodes but it has picked up again. and as for cunning single lady, I haven't watched much of it, so I have to wait and see. I really hope it turns amazing since I love both leads!

And about the age, sorry I didn't know it's a sensitive issue otherwise I would have posted it in a spoiler :D lol!
