laid-back, cozy, warm, atmospheric slice of life. very good but as others have said, too short. seems like many of the dramas i like are too short and "incomplete" and many of the dramas are too long and contain needless, contrived filler
Stopped during episode 3- tried three times to continue but it just couldn't grab me. Could be it was simply not my style. The angst of some of the characters was a bit cringe-worthy sometimes. The pacing/dialogue seemed rushed too often. Maybe I wasn't patient enough to see it through but I feel it is overrated. It might please a lot of people, so don't hesitate to give it a try.
Great psychological tension. Great use of lighting or lack thereof. Very good acting. Enjoyed this mini-series very much but you have to like snails and turtles, albeit, intelligent snails and turtles! Satisfying ending. Matsushige is, indeed, a master artist, literally and figuratively! Mr. Grumpy Face- Midnight Diner, anyone? By the way, most parts of water lilies are edible- the flower, leaves, seeds and tubers- caution: some tubers are very bitter and therefore not edible- do your homework first before considering
I stopped and restarted a few times trying to give it a chance and finally gave up at episode 8. Very overrated and I rate it at about 5.0. For a comedy, romance, family, crime drama- it's not funny, not romantic, amateurish crime and not much focus on family. Don't have a clue who the intended target audience might have been.
Very good, simple, honest, mature drama without the constant immature angst and introduction of contrived plot pins and needles. I wish more were like this even if it could have been a bit more interesting/had a bit more "heat".
❗❓❗ Anybody- please, recommend similar series that also don't try to incorporate multiple genres or too many plot branches (i consider this a combination of family/food/slow burn romance)
Quit after episode 5, but really should have stopped watching earlier, all because of poor writing. I mean, even fiction at it's most fictitious doesn't have characters doing and saying one stupid thing after another. On top of that, although the lead actors are now veterans, at the time they were terrible actors. However, Kanno was a very good actress even back then and some of the others played their roles well.
Didn't involve any music to speak of by the cast until the very end. Basically, a straight forward single mother-daughter relationship and the daughter's dealing with being independent at too young of an age prior to coming of age. An ex-musician mother who seemingly valued free-will over education for her daughter, maybe? a good lesson taken- that if you are going to judge a person, you have to judge the whole person, not just parts. look for the good in people and not just the bad
Binge watched this one. Very good easy going, cozy comedy. It could have used a major plot twist at the end but it was still pleasing enough. Superb acting by all- some of the veteran actresses are all-time favorites I've seen in other dramas. Overall, very fun to watch. Thanks!
Well done- perhaps underrated (at 7.0) Two or more physically abused human beings. Three or more mentally abused people. Three or more mentally ill people, the result of which, may have been caused by some form of abuse. One always hopes the "chain" breaks at some point to stop the pain and suffering and free the next generation
I hope this screenwriter/director's other works are as good as this one because I think I may have found a kinship. This short series was wonderful and suited my tastes and preferences. Without being exhaustive/overdone, it touched on overcoming social mental illness and coming of age anxieties. It was simplistic, atmospheric, warm, inviting, very realistic. Just a beautiful family story. Well made and well acted by all measures. Thoroughly enjoyed it and THANKS. 9.0
Currently on episode 4- have you ever tried too hard to understand something and Understanding knew it and just flew right over your head, laughing all the way? Maybe I should just let it gradually come to me, huh? OK, I admit I'm one of those people who have to watch some shows twice and I think I ran, nose first, right into one! I'm a bit bloodied but since it didn't knock me out, I'll continue, even with this look of confusion on my face 😕🙃 Eventually, and one way or another, at some time or place, in one universe or another, everything will probably become clear 😎
Cute at the start, then the painfully cringey oh no we can't kiss/etc as if they are virgins.
Exactly! Also, it was comical at the start. Then, the writers (and whomever else) felt they needed to destroy a positive thing! Ask a comedian if they can survive performing the same material time after time after time at the same comedy club. The answer will be NO. Could not finish while watching episode 9 and it's a shame because the acting is not bad

Hit me baby, hit me as hard as you love a dead man 🥴
