I completely agree. The Outlander had one of the darkest moment instilled inside me to this day I still cringe…
I don't know how Claire did it to be honest, the scene where she is in the hospital bed after returning to her time and she see's his face in the reflection of the window as if his ghost had followed her in time.
How could I forget about Ramsey from GOT! His death was the most satisfying, he got what he deserved evil little creep. I agree, some countries are restricted when it comes to Drama's.
If I could link a gif of a standing ovation under this comment, I would. There's a reason time travel is such…
No need for the ovation, you're compliment is quite enough lol
Great article btw! I couldn't believe it when I seen an article about Outlander on here as it holds such a special place in my heart. My ancestor's clan fought and died on the battlefield of Culloden.
I completely agree. The Outlander had one of the darkest moment instilled inside me to this day I still cringe…
The J&J scene was extremely disturbing, I felt ill watching it which is why I had to skip only after a few minutes. I wasn't expecting it to go that far and at times some might say the drama did get too dark. Personally I give the writer's and director's major credit for portraying the actual brutality and depravity that took place back then in Scotland. The love story may be fiction, but the backdrop is actual history unaltered and undiluted which at times is truly horrific to watch. I don't think I have ever hated an antagonist/bad guy character in any drama more than Jonathon, each time he entered a scene I experienced actual dread because there was no limit to his depravity. His character scared me and gave me anxiety lol.
In my opinion the time travel aspect of the story "Outlander" will never get old especially if it includes traveling back into a historical time of turmoil. An amazing love story that transcends time with explosive chemistry between the main characters is a recipe for phenomenal drama making. Yes, we've seen the time travel thing being done every which way in every time thought possible, but when it's done right you can't beat it!
Outlander had the ability to intertwine a passionate love story within one of the darkest periods in Scottish history filled with death, destruction and depravity. Some of the scenes in this drama were even too much for me to watch and that's saying something. It was so dark at times, but the love, and chemistry between Jamie and Claire keeps you coming back for more no matter how dark it becomes.
I haven't read all of the article because I haven't seen this drama yet.....I will now. I did read the first few paragraphs about the profound effect it had on you and the emotional turmoil you experienced for many months after it. It resonated with me on so many levels when it comes to historical dramas because I along with many others have had the same experience with our favorite historical romances whether they end in tragedy or live happily ever after we invest so much into their love story hoping for the best outcome which is rarely ever given to us. That's the trick they play on us every time, they give us a love that is so pure it cannot survive in this world. It hurts so much, but to experience a love so epic would be worth any sacrifice.
I've just started this, I'm on episode 28! : ) I normally wait until I've finished a drama to leave a comment,…
Oh, I just can't get enough of this couple! I've liked a lot of couples in drama's, but Ni Ni and Chen Kun are on another level. I haven't even seen them kiss yet lol so far I've seen the scene where they were both on the floor together and all he does is sniff her for what felt like an eternity. I mean I've never felt such sexual tension from just a sniff lol If they have this much chemistry now I can't wait to see their first kiss!
Ning Yi is such a complex character, everything you described about him is what makes him terrifying to me. I love dark characters, the darkness is what lures me in : )
I can't believe I started to re-watch this. I just finished before CNY. Dang I love Chen Kun!
I've just started this, I'm on episode 28! : ) I normally wait until I've finished a drama to leave a comment, but I'm so impressed by the FL Ni Ni and ML Chen Kun that I had to leave this comment.
I'm no drama expert, but I often see a lot of comments about FL's not having enough variation in facial expressions or too much. Ni Ni is very natural and comfortable in her acting. I feel if I saw her talking to her friends she would be just the same, I will definitely be watching more of her in the future.
Okay, can I just say that Chen Kun's character Ning Yi is phenomenal and his acting skills are by far some of the best I've seen and I'm only on episode 28! By now I've normally figured everybody out in a drama, what their motivation and intentions are, but I don't trust Ning Yi fully yet. I know he loves the FL that's been clear from the start, but this guy is ruthless in a frightening way. Nothing and nobody will get in the way of his dream for the Empire. I fear for Feng Zhi Wei whenever she is involved with him, but at the same time I want them to be together! I'm so conflicted with this drama.....I love it.
I don't know why but I find Ashes of Love so boring...I didn't care for any of the characters except mu ci and…
Wait......the ending was lovely.
She sacrificed herself to bring peace between heaven and earth/the two brother's. Then the male lead waits for hundreds of years for her to be reincarnated into a mortal then swoops down onto her wedding procession on her wedding day and tells her that in this life and all the others after she can only be his wife.....swoon. They have a little house together and a son. They basically live happily ever after in another life, so that was the reward right there. I'm used to one of them dying and the other has to live a life of misery without them in these drama's lol I was very satisfied with how they ended it for us. Oh, I know what you mean about couples being separated all of the time, it's a common theme in these drama's lol
Have you guys watched the epilogue???? It was so comforting hahahaha all of the toxicity and pain was lessened.
Do you mean the little mini episode where they are in this time with a cute little house etc.......???? If so yes it gave me peace and healed my broken heart : )
I agree, I loved this drama too! It's a must see if you are into historical romance, beautiful love story. Do…
I agree with you about the Queen, you can't force someone to love you. I just felt sorry for her because from such a young age she was used as a pawn by her father who honestly didn't love her to then marry someone who also doesn't love her either. I'm just saying I'd be a little bitter too if that were the cards I were dealt in life.
Did you see the way the little boy looked at his cousin the little Prince being fussed over by his mother? The boy was suffering due to the loss of a mother figure in his life, maybe his dad should have remarried to give him a step-mother. He will look for someone to blame for his loss and it comes back to the King. The child doesn't care about the crime he only remembers the pain of growing up without his mother. His jealously may manifest towards the young prince who is doted on by his mother the Queen who is the main reason the King punished his own mother. He could then turn on the Queen too.....so many options.
The Princess was wrong for not telling the truth about what happened all those years ago, but can you remember how naive you were when you were 12 - 13? If you were told to stand in a room for a few minutes and wish really hard to marry the boy you love and how it would seem pretty insignificant at the time especially to a foolish little girl. Then only later do you find out what really happened and realize you were a part of that! She admitted it to the King her father and she was clearly distraught at what she had done. But, she was instructed to take it to the grave by her father who is the person I blame for all of this. What kind of King turns a blind eye to outright murder and I would have claimed the Princess was also a victim during the trial branding her a mere pawn in a scheme a child would have no comprehension of. Her father the King was weak and incompetent. My point is the Princess wasn't inherently evil she was manipulated by her grandmother then told by her father that the truth wouldn't save her either. She was damned if she did and damned if she didn't.
One of the best Joseon era dramas. Definitely recommend. And I'm about to re-watch it myself.
I agree, I will definitely re--watch this one too. Can you recommend any other Joseon era drama's like this one? I've seen Empress Ki and this drama was my second one from South Korea ; )
It is the best ending of all the historical dramas I have ever watched....U don't see such amazing ending nowdays…
I mean we should be used to crying our eyes out watching all these heartbreaking drama's, but this one really got to me I'll admit. I don't think I've ever cried so much in such a short drama, it was definitely the actors/actresses portrayal of raw emotion. Even the side characters made me cry, I cared so much about each of them. Great acting is all I can put it down to, they didn't care about how they looked on camera or their makeup getting ruined. They really went for it and I felt it right where it hurts.
This is one of the greats when it comes to historical dramas. The only thing I didn't like was that the queen…
I agree, I loved this drama too! It's a must see if you are into historical romance, beautiful love story. Do you really think her death can be classed as an easy one? I would have preferred poison myself. I actually felt sorry for the young Queen at times, yes she knew about what her father did to make her Queen, but her only crime was keeping it a secret for all those years. She was in love with the Crown Prince as much as the other girl, her only fault was having an evil ambitious father. She was scared of her father, but at the same time she wanted him to be proud of her as every girl wishes.
The little Princess was more at fault than the Queen I think, but she was just a child too when this occurred, and she had no idea what the outcome was going to be until after the event. She was clearly haunted by what she'd done, but I still would've punished her in a different way by having her husband married to someone else, so she had to endure watching him build a new happy life with another woman. I wouldn't have taken her away from her son though because the child was completely innocent and you also punished him in the process....not cool. That damage can never be undone and the little boy could hold onto that grudge against the King in the future. I honestly felt sorry for everyone's personal plight except the corrupt officials. Oh, let's not forget about the Queen mother who got poisoned in the end, she got what she deserved too! I would've got rid of her way before he did, she was the mastermind behind all of the darkness within the Palace.
This drama was my second South Korean historical romance and I have to say I really enjoyed it. It's short and sweet with a lot of underlying anguish/sacrifice (I cried a lot). The drama doesn't bombard you with too many plots like political scheme's, concubine rivalry and the other twists/turns that are usually found in lengthy drama's. This is a good filler for when your looking for something a little lighter that isn't too taxing, you will laugh, cry and swoon at the young couple's sweet love : )
I liked all of the actors/actresses from the children to the young adults. They all did a fantastic job especially in the more dramatic scene's, their portrayal of grief and heartache was powerful. They were really sobbing their hearts out, gripping their broken hearts in their chests and screaming up into the heavens completely distraught. I felt everything like a knife to the chest, even side characters moved me to tears with their own desperate plights.
I suggest anyone watch this who is into historical romance and take it for exactly what it is - a beautiful little love story.
The King's Woman is one of my favorites, can I ask why you dropped it at episode 17? Sometimes people just don't…
Yeah, that would do it lol. Not clicking with main lead character's is a deal breaker. I'm sorry I thought you had dropped "The King's Woman" recently because the comment was 13 days ago, my bad.
Thank you for the comment! It's great that you enjoyed it. Yes, mainstream media tend to stick to political narratives.…
Thanks for the recommendation "The Flower Girl" I just finished watching it and I was pleasantly surprised. The FL Hong Yong Hui was very good and very beautiful. I cried quite a few times, the little sister who was blind made me very upset especially when she is feeling the ground trying to find her dead mother. That hit me hard, I was sobbing with the both of them.
After all the struggle and strife it ends happily. Well, as happy as you can get in a war torn country at the time. What I found most endearing was the fact Kotpun was ashamed at the start of the movie for having to sell flowers to buy medicine for her mother, but at the end where you can clearly see the country is repairing itself she walks among the people in the market with her basket of flowers with her head held up high for the very first time.
