You know, his performance as Ye Hua was objectively pretty bad, but I actually find myself really liking Chen Youwei in this show. He knows he's not great at acting, and took all the judges critiques very maturely. He also has his own understanding of the character, and though he didn't do super well with mixing his understanding within his performance, to understand a character is the first step to acting well. He seems like a very grounded and mature person. (Also, when he said I'm not an idol, I don't think he was like looking down on idols or anything, if anything, it seemed like he wanted to say he didn't deserve to be an idol. So annoying that fans take everything out of context.)
He Changxi was absolutely terrible in the scene he did in ep 2. He did not deserve that S card. I’m glad the…
Also, I feel like to some extent there is some sexism in this show. Like, it's not horrible but still... like look at the ladies who get S cards, they are objectively pretty good actors. But then the guys... of the four so far, they are all handsome young people who yes, have good potential, but haven't shown their true capability yet. It feels kind of unfair that guys can get a card because they look good, but the ladies have to really bring an amazing piece.
the title reminds me of the game zheng shuang played on Love O2O
the game she played was based off of this story (to some extent). This drama is another adaptation of a pretty famous story called "A Chinese Ghost Story" or 倩女幽魂 in Chinese.
I finally had the snail noodle thing that Situ Mo really loved and now I totally understand her obsession. It tastes so good. (It also smells pretty bad but the taste makes up for the smell).
I'm so confused as to why Joy of Life wasn't nominated for more awards. Like, they got a bunch of nominations at the Magnolia Awards (白玉兰奖) but like I've checked the nominations list for two other drama award ceremonies and there is literally no trace of Joy of Life. But like some pretty subpar dramas are on those lists so... why is Joy of Life not on there?
AOL and L&R female lead similarities:1. Have the same mother (actress)2. They don't understand love at first3.…
You can also add: 7. realized they misunderstood their boyfriends and then proceeded to find them, then give up a part of themselves in order for their boyfriend to keep on living. (With Jinmi it was the ability to see color and with Xuanji it was well, herself)
It's not bad. The acting is really pretty top notch (as long as you aren't a resident of Chongqing I don't think the accents will be that awkward) and it's quite funny, yet can also be heartbreakingly realistic. There are some parts that seem a little too dramatized or romanticized but overall a very solid show. The real problem is finding a place to watch it.
anybody willing to translate this whole video of Cheng Yi? It's an older interview of his, but it looks so fun…
CY: Hello friends at Yewen Idol (the interviewing channel). I am Cheng Yi. Question: What is your favorite nickname? CY: Anything is fine. Interviewer: You want them to call you 'anything is fine'? CY: Yes. Question: How much idol package do you have? (for note "idol package" is the direct translation, but it really means like restrictions on certain behaviors or accepting certain roles or acting in a certain way because it affects your image as an "idol". Having too much is typically seen as a negative thing). CY: I don't have any. Question: In the show, how ugly are you willing to be? CY: If the plot requires it, anything is okay. Question: Do you have pressure acting alongside Hou Minghao (or Neo Hou on MDL)? CY: How could I have pressure acting alongside my friend? There's no pressure. Question: Tell us one thing Hou Minghao often does while filming, besides acting and reading the script. CY: Exercising and singing. Because he is good at singing, he will sing anything. Question: What characteristic of Zhang Qiling (CY's character in the Lost Tomb 2, where he paired up with Hou Minghao) is most important to act out? CY: He is an" omnipotent god" but he is also one of the energetic people in the steel triangle (a reference to the three main characters in the Lost Tomb, who make the steel triangle). Interviewer: So energetic, yet also powerful and mysterious? CY: Exactly, you answered very well. Question: In real life, what kinds of discussions do you and Wu Xie (Hou Minghao's character's name) have? CY: Discussions the steel triangle should have. Interviewer: can you be more specific? I feel like after asking five or six questions, I haven't gained any information. CY: That's good. Interviewer: You can't do Tai Chi like that. (An internet saying probably?) CY: I have to be a little mysterious right? Question: Use one sentence to recommend "The Lost Tomb 2" CY: If you have the guts go watch it! Anyways, I don't have the guts to watch it. Question: Guess what year the majority of your fans were born in. CY: The year is not important. What is important is that in my heart, you are always eighteen. Interviewer: Did you memorize these lines beforehand? CY: No, you ask quickly and I answer quickly. Interviewer: You don't have to be that fast. CY: Oh, I don't have to be fast? So it doesn't need to be fast? Interviewer: Yes! CY: Ah? I didn't memorize any lines because I thought this segment was quickly ask and quickly answer. Well, let's start with quick ask and quick answer then. Question: Which female celebrity would you want to switch bodies with for one day? CY: I never thought about that. Interviewer: Then think now. CY: I can't think of anything. Interviewer: Do you dislike this show or something? (Sarcastically asking because CY's answers have all been super short). CY: Of course not! I just want to experience a happy day with my mother! Question: If you urgently needed 600,000 dollars (I think? I'm not sure about the number, but a lot of money) which of your friends would lend it to you? CY: One of my really great friends, Yang Zi, would definitely lend it to me. Question: If there were no restrictions, what product would you want to endorse the most? CY: A product that is safe, comfortable and easy to use. Interviewer: Is there a certain category? CY: I haven't endorsed anything yet, when I have I'll tell you. Question: What do you want to add to your Baidu Baike (the Chinese Wikipedia of sorts)? CY: Add some food and add how I just learned how to use Alipay (which is how the Chinese pay for stuff nowadays. They just use Alipay on their phones). Question: What is your WeChat Group like? CY: What did you say? Interviewer: WeChat Groups. Do you have WeChat Groups? CY: No. Question: What was one post you recently posted in your Friends Group? (朋友圈, basically like a twitter/Facebook mashup in WeChat where you post updates and people can react). CY: I don't have a Friends Group so.... Question: What kind of comment would make you so mad you go crazy? CY: I don't go crazy. Interviewer: So you've never been angry? CY: Basically, yeah. Interviewer: I don't believe you though. CY: (Fake angry) Then try. (Immediately starts to laugh) Question: What is the last thing you do before an interview? CY: Isn't it just talking to you? Question: What is your current source of happiness? CY: My show broadcasted, everyone should go watch. -------------------------------------GAME SEGMENT BELOW----------------------------------- (Rules: both people (CY and interviewer I guess) press one of the teeth on the toy one at a time, the person who gets bitten loses) CY: What if I get bitten, will it hurt? Interviewer: Yes. CY: Really? CY: Do you already know which one will trigger the biting? Interviewer: I don't know because it changes every time. (CY gets bitten) CY: Wow, it really does hurt. (CY opens the toy again.) Interviewer: If you open it again you have to press the button for it to close! (Second round) (CY gets bitten again) CY: This is a test of luck. They didn't do any changes to the toy. This is completely luck. (CY opens it again) Interviewer: Why did you open it again? CY: I'm not playing anymore! What should I do to close it? I'm begging you please close! CY: I hope you will support our show. It is a show made out of sincerity. Thank you.
That actually scares me.Scarlet Heart 2, Sound of the Desert, Dream back to Qing Dynasty, the stories are all…
Scarlet Heart 1's scriptwriting is actually pretty good (at least IMO). It was a lot more complex than your typical time travel drama and the growth of Ruoxi as a character was done a lot better than in your typical drama. Scarlet Heart 2 and Dream Back to the Qing Dynasty weren't that good, it's true.
It gets better towards the middle, also Yang Zi's acting got wayyy better towards the middle. In the beginning…
It is so annoying because female leads are usually either silly (in most xianxia shows) or badass. There's no in between. I love badass FLs as much as everyone else but a FL doesn't need to be badass in order to be strong. I think scriptwriters really haven't accepted that fact. (In LR, the FL is pretty silly kind of idiotic early on but I find her more interesting, complex, and likable than the FL in AoL. At least her actions made logical sense and she had the ability to use her brain).
Is this a time-travel/rebirth kind of drama? Cos rn i'm on the second episode and heard a lot of modern words(?)…
It's a time travel story but the show got past the ban because they made the entire story a novel that someone was writing (that was the first scene in show with Zhang Ruoyun as Zhang Qing showing his professor his novel). So basically this guy travel back in time, but he keeps his memory of what happened before so even as a baby he remembers everything in the modern world. Also, about the modern words thing, you'll see why that happens (it's only said in the second half why that happens). (Sorry if that spoils anything)
Hmmm... quick question.. how bad is the angst and misunderstandings?? Id like to know what Im jumping into since…
Towards the second half, like around episode 40 I think, there are some misunderstandings and a lot of angst, but happy ending! Most of it is really cute, though Sifeng suffers... A LOT. (I'd say it isn't as tragic as Goodbye My Princess though)
