On the other hand, Bai Jiusi never got on my nerves or do I ever feel like he is cold hearted. I understand that he is an immortal and he was taught to obey heavens will and his lack of empathy is due to the fact that he is someone who never got out of his box to truly ever see the reality. He has a kind heart too but the difference between him and Hua Ruyue is that unlike her, he never willingly reaches out. His recent experience as a true mortal in Songhe town where he made a human connection called friendship gradually showed how he does have the ability to understand and empathize.
The whole recent Songhe Town arc is surely orchestrated by Hua Ruyue. A clear evidence of it being simply a mere illusion is when Fan Linger mentioned how it had been 3 days since she had been searching for Qingyue, whereas in Songhe town we were shown how time greatly differed ; from months to years. Another evidence is how the bandits told Zhang Suan that Songhe Town is somewhat abandoned. Hua Ruyue definitely made Bai Jiusi experience her past experiences as a mortal before, as she had said during their discussion previously that Bai Jiusi should only talk to her once he knew about mortal suffering.
Hua Ruyue's hatred towards Bai Jiusi doesn't stem merely because he took her powers. I doubt it had anything to do with her ego, we were shown about her personality and how she willingly sets aside her status to save the Mengs or the common people with everything she can, and these actions of her speaks of her goodness rather than her ego. I definitely think that there is more to it because she loved Bai Jiusi a lot too that she even wanted to have a child with him. Love and Hate are both powerful feelings, the fact that Hua Ruyue had turned to hate someone she had loved a lot can only surely be due to 'betrayal'; as nothing is worst than being betrayed by someone you loved.
Also, I kind of disagree that all of their conflict could have been resolved if they had just communicated, given how time and time again we were shown how apart from their powers being yin and yang, their personality and ideology greatly differs from each other. It's easy to say they could have just communicated, but how can you communicate with someone who clearly lacks the ability to understand. A proper communication could only work and fix things if both are already in a state of willingness to understand and really listen. This is the state that they have yet to overcome. I think Bai Jiusi is slowly opening his eyes and coming to understand Hua Ruyue. Although this whole thing was her scheme, it is something that finally opened Bai Jiusi's mind and heart.
Yes, they are both really good friends. True, it's gonna be tough if they collaborated. This collab dream of mine will forever remain a dream π.
