me too! I was getting the feeling that he's an opportunist with the way he was acting :O
yeah it seems like he's thinking of a plan or something and he was smirking when she the other Yoon Min Jae came in plus he already knew that she wasn't the other Yoon Min Jae so he definitely knows something
Everyone is free to think what they want but for me this drama deserves my time invested and more for the relationship…
I totally agree. As I said in my initial post, I think the acting makes up for the political stuff and I think the acting is fabulous by both lead actors and I'm loving the performance!
DAMN this is interesting... so isit a time travel thing where Eun Ho is Guem in the future and goes back to help his lover? Or is it simply a time travel where Eun Ho just helps the prince and his lover? I'm super confused. I'm hoping it's not a love triangle and more so reincarnation but I'm probably thinking too hard on this one. Still fingers crossed that it'll be good despite being so short TT^TT
"so I have no idea what the issue is when Seung yoo and Yoon soo (his former teacher) have literally done NOTHING…
I'm not sure how since neither of them confessed to each other and how strongly his teacher refused his advances, most of the places they went were to public places and educational places that would not warrant specific romance; library, museum and an elderly care center which can't really be considered "date or romantic" places. In terms of "grooming" she was helping him aide his talent in math and was aiding him to continue as a mathematician not start a relationship with him, although she did pay more attention to him, she wasn't doing it because she had feelings for him. Also he never acted on his feelings and maturely backed off when she told him to stop, so again, nothing happened and she didn't lead him on, in fact his feelings are mostly one sided since he was contacting her after the time skip and she clearly said back off and never to see each other so again she's not leading him on. Leading him on would be accepting his advances and flirting back which she didn't. If you want creepy then that would be Chugakusei Nikki when the teacher kissed her student and even confessed to her friend that she was feeling something for her student. Not to mention most Asian Educational systems require or demand from student and teachers to stay late and study and have recommended extra classes in public places, it's not like in Western culture and educational system, so they go to night school and stay longer hours studying out, so them going on "trips" weren't romantic since they were studying the whole time. Chugakusei Nikki had trips when they went to the beach and even had a secret rendezvous together so I'm not sure what you mean by her being a closet pedo. If she was she would have hit on any of her other students at her previous jobs and pedophilia is described as “recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving activity with a prepubescent child or children (generally 13 years or younger).” They never showed her having sexual fantasies or urges with him and he was almost 18 at the time. Plus she doesn't have a history of sexual abuse in her childhood which is a contributing factor towards pedophiliac behaviour.
Clearly it's not pedophilia since I've linked down an full article on it below if you want to read up on it since I think there's a misunderstanding, but I do agree that the ML behavior is clingy. Her ex-fiancée is a bit creepy by following her as well and trying to find her workplace and going behind her back and screwing around with her workplace when she was a teacher so he's more manipulative.
me too~! The acting is the driving force for me and I'm interested to see where they'll go next week since there was some indication of slight romance between SY and YS which I can understand for some may be a bit odd but I think it's more so as an after thought since the romance is always on the back burner in this show.
After watching up until episode 10 I have to say that this is one of my favourite shows of winter 2021 and it's honestly a shame that this one is being underappreciated. I really don't understand the gripe people have with this show since the acting, characters and portrayal of mental health, trauma, depression and other mature themes is phenomenal in my opinion. Although I was at first skeptical and worried about the huge age gap between the actors and even the characters themselves, my worries have been put to bed. Political agenda aside, the romance is almost in the background and very subtle, so I have no idea what the issue is when Seung yoo and Yoon soo (his former teacher) have literally done NOTHING to warrant such a strong reaction from viewers.
Though I understand that underage relationships is a serious thing and not to be undermined and is frankly disturbing, this show has literally done NOTHING to implicate that the actual characters are romantically involved as of yet, so the major creep vibes people are getting confuses me. The only show that seriously put me off that had some SERIOUS underage teacherxstudent relationship that involved sexual and intimate implications that I watched was Chugakusei Nikki and that was disturbing. Reading the large controversy about this is a shame and although I understand a lot of people views, I feel like it's a shame that people are dropping this show. Both Seung Yoo and Yoon Soo have NEVER acted on any feelings and SY as a character, backed off when he confessed and YS clearly flat out refused him when she was his teacher. They haven't even held hands (romantically) so the disturbing implications of a teacher x student relationship doesn't apply at all. The show is clearly focusing more so on trauma and political themes rather then underage sexual relations, which I appreciate. The main bond that SY and YS have with each other started off with a genuine appreciation of each other as intellectual people; their relationship was never sexual and people can be attracted to each other solely based off of INTELLECT not just romantic. This show is really driving the point that SY has a genuine appreciation and attraction towards YS for mostly her intellect, personality, and how she was the driving factor to allow him to live his life and move on from his trauma. Having the audience and viewers focus solely on the "forbidden" relationship of SY and YS I think is a misconception and I don't think that's what the creators of this show were going for. Although it's hard NOT to misunderstand as a viewer with all that happened, but I think the main point of this show is a bond between 2 people based off of loyalty and spiritual connections.
Though I seriously despise the political aspects of the show and agree with a lot of people that it's a bit boring and dry, I find the acting and characters totally make up for it. The acting by far is some of the best and I really feel the struggle of both Seung Yoo and Yoon Soo is genuine and reaches out to viewers. They literally stole the show for me in this week's episode and I have to applaud Lee Do hyun for his amazing acting yet again.
To those who are thinking of dropping it, I can understand since the political aspects are a turn off but please give this a closer look since it's not as bad as you'd think and it's a shame that this show is being swept under the rug since the acting is relatable, true and frankly the heart breaking trauma that each character goes through is very touching.
To those who read all this, thank you and I hope you continue to enjoy the show as much as I have!
I have a feeling that history will repeat itself and they will try to frame our ML with that female student, but…
yeah I was getting the same vibes too.... like I'm thinking the principle might do that and that he's ready for it. He already is suspicious of her and Ye Rin. He's risking a lot by going back and I wouldn't be surprised if he's framed for the same thing since things are already starting to repeat themselves.
Don't worry. Do hyun will end up killing us all bc of how great of a drama this will end up being. So don't worry…
I'll try to give it a go and push through since sad dramas usually make me avoid them but I've heard high praise about this one so I'll try to push through and watch it sometime!
ngl, I really hope the rating at the end is somewhere around 8.3-8.4. as far as now, the story is going so well…
Me too! I was expecting this to already have at least an 8.3 since it's something that makes the audience feel grounded and real. This show is honestly a hidden gem and I think it needs to get the love and attention it deserves.
EPSIODE 5 WAS BOMBBB. OMGOSH. I was a little skeptical about the first 4 episodes bc they were "meh" (IMO) but…
same here! DO Hyun is literally one of my favourite young actors after he blew me away in 18 again. It was the first time I saw him and he keeps doing such a GREAT job and his acting is so wonderful with how he portrays such complex characters in pain. I swear he's a literally genius :D
Don't worry. Do hyun will end up killing us all bc of how great of a drama this will end up being. So don't worry…
me too! I've only seen him in 18 again and that my was first time seeing him but man did he blow me away with his performance! I'm dying for the next episode!
Damn.. just WOW. I was seriously not expecting this show to be THIS good. At first I wasn't completely invested but man was I wrong and I'm glad I stuck through since this show is a hidden gem and is seriously overlooked. Usually when you see these type of shows with prodigies, you either get an over-dramatization of their abilities or they mix mental illness in with their abilities and romanticize the two together like with "A Beautiful mind" but man is this the total opposite. Mental illness, stress, pressure and Korean culture of "being the best" is a serious issue and I just love how well the actors portray their pain. The cast is absolutely wonderful and Do Hyun is KILLING it and same with Da Vi. The amount of pressure to be the best and mental health is SUPER important and I'm glad they aren't just glossing over the serious issues that Da Vi clearly has with anxiety and ADHD as well as pressure fomr her parents as well as Do Hyun suffering from guilt and depression. The mature way they handled such intense themes is what I love about this show and although the romance is there, it isn't the main highlight at the moment. Same with Do Hyun's character Seung Yoo, although he's a genius, his character isn't overplayed when he has his "special genius" moments. It's more real and down to earth unlike what I've seen in other movies or shows and it's a breath of fresh air.
Although the political and conniving themes that Jin Kyung's character (the principle) is doing is sometimes over the top, I can easily overlook it when she's so good at playing a baddie. I'm DYING for next week with the time skip and I love Do Hyun's character development (Seung yoo) into a mature man.... I can't to see how he's gonna try to clear Yoon Soo's name since he promised her in ep 1 and clearly, based off the next ep preview, he has a purpose going back to his old school.
EITHER WAY DO HYUN IS KILLING IT. I loved him 18 again and he's slowly blowing it out of the park with his performance and he's becoming my favourite actor. I fell in love with his character in 18 again and his acting in that show really hit it home for me and it was what made that show so memorable and I'm getting the same vibes here. Fingers crossed that he'll keep killing it and that this will end up being just as memorable!
I think Hyun already knew she's a girl, hence he bought the ring and the red shoes. If he thought CP is a man…
yup I know that his friend knows that the CP is a girl since he saw her changing as a child by accident and was giving her the ring she was eyeing. I was talking about Jung Ji Woon (her royal tutor) since he only saw her once as a girl during the hunting challenge and technically, during his confession, he stated "even though you're a guy and the crown prince of this nation...." meaning he fell in love with the CP as a "man" without knowing that she's a girl.
This is just getting better and better! The one thing that I'm REALLY loving about this series is the realistic mature themes and the way characters handle situations, not to mention how even though Jung Ji woon DOESN'T know that the CP is actually a girl is every better! There's no shame that he feels towards the CP even though he thinks that the CP is a man and Le Hwi (CP) doesn't judge him at all, same with Lee Hyun, his friend, for possibly being bisexual/confused or having feelings towards a "man". This series is wonderful in that homosexuality isn't really shunned or made a big deal out of, unlike other historical shows. Although at the time and Korea being well... Korea, homosexuality is still seen as "taboo" in some sense, this show depicts it and brings it almost to the center stage and I applaud this show for being bold. Although the CP is a woman, Jung Ji has feelings for CP as a MAN which is shocking to me considering how he STILL doesn't know she's a girl. I love how strong each character is and how mature they are. I'm so excited to see where this goes!
I'm just LOVING this series so far. Usually I stay far away from Historical Joseon dramas since majority of them end in tragedy and end up with mostly sad endings but I decided to take a risk on this one and I'm loving it! It's so nice to see something more serious and although the comedy is lovely to see and a nice break, it's subtle which I appreciate! The situations the character's get into and the "political" aspects are more realistic and toned down from what I'm used to so this is a nice change of pace. I've seen my fair share of "cross dressing" female leads but something about this one is different. I'm just DYING for when Jung Ji finds out about the crown prince being a girl and his first love~
Can I just say that the last few episodes have been hilarious? I feel so bad for Jung Ji! Poor dude must be hella confused. He's like.... "No way I'm GAY!" hahah. Episode 7 and 8 are my favourite so far and I'm loving how strong Lee Hwi is! She's rocking it as the prince and I love how soft she's becoming under Jung Ji's influence. The last 2 episodes have been giving me BL vibes and this is down right awesome and hilarious. I can't wait for the next episode and I'm praying for no more deaths or death flags!
