I think so far Liu Hao Ran’s leading ladies are all very annoying. I usually always like them in the beginning…
Song Zuer is a terrible actress. I don't know where you got the idea she knows what she is doing. The actress that plays the Princess is quite capable IMO.

I thought I was going to love this show but as the story unfolded I got irritated by the leads one way or another. First it was Yuran and her annoying bratty attitude in the beginning. She got better as the story progressed so she redeem herself at least. Ji Ye was a character I never like from the beginning. His constant emo drama was tiring to say the least. Then to Asule who I thought was a likeable character but after his resurrection turned into a schizophrenic loon that will kill you if you so much look at him the wrong way. If you like your male leads go apeshit and casually kill people for the sake of it then this drama hits the spot. The only major characters who have their heads screwed right in this drama is General Xi and the Princess.

Could somebody spoil me what exactly is the reason for Lao Han's dramatic antics in the second episode. I was rolling my eyes at the absurdity of it all. Justcan't get over how banal and sentimental their words were and then those over the top reactions.

Will the second male lead remain this pathetic. An absolute doormat of a character that I find his constant morose look already irritating . Seriously what's up with him trying to expect respect when he doesn't know how to demand it from people. And to think he has one of the strongest fighting skills in the story. He is sort of trapped in some bizarre Cinderella story solely of his own making.

I thought this was great a few episodes in but as soon as the lead actress started to appear more and more I am now starting to wonder how in the world she managed to bag this role. She is an absolutely mediocre actress and she is not helped by her extremely shallow characterization. Another one of those bubbly, boorish, doe-eyed, "I'll only marry for love" female lead.

The cinematography is stunning and the production is absolutely top notch. A few episodes in and I am already loving the story. The only thing that bugs me is the abrupt change of scenes. They were many scenes where you expected them to elaborate on an event but instead they completely move on to another story. It's just so bad this was postponed and the production had to cut out some scenes to fit the new schedule. I hope in the future we can see the entirety of this series in Youtube or Netflix.

Can't get over Mark and Yaya's chemistry. Their interactions are to die for. I just love how natural these two look when they are together.

I'm on episode 7 and the FL's personality really irritates me. She plays the Cinderella and doormat role in her family quite well but against the ML though she goes into super Saiyan mode hellbent on stopping him. Talk about misplaced anger. Coupled with her absolutely useless and incompetent father I'm starting to dislike their family scenes because I would suffer through watching her tolerate and encourage the capriciousness of her halfsister and stepmother.

I cannot understand this show's very high rating. Didn't bother to check out the first episode and just downloaded the entire series. Now I'm regretting it, I'm on episode 4 and I have to say I'm so bored with it. The FL is too bland and shallow for my taste. I could never believe she ever had strong feelings for her best friend seeing how quickly she got over him. It look like she just went to the bathroom, cried and just decided she was gonna live with the ML. Hello! Goodbye! The End! Should have just read the synopsis and knew all that is to it.

Loved the end scene... It was on point and creative... I always hated her and now i am full of hope that he will…
Drop the hysterics and drama. If you actually cared to understand Xun'ers motive then the ending would have made sense. Sorry to disappoint you but the two will still end up together.

I heard that the lead actress Zhou Xun is a the middle of divorce and currently dating Faye Wong daughter Leah…
People these days really need to learn having a sense of propriety. Ask more sensible questions next time rather than confirming the veracity of some salacious gossip.

The frustrating thing is they followed history. I suppose they had no other choice because the censors would not allow altering historical facts. What would have been better was removing the historical figures and making this pure historical fiction and making Liu Ping a much more decisive emperor. Great story nonetheless.

Yuck!! A big No for me I couldn’t go beyond ep 2.
I can tell from your post that this one went over your head.

This is a sageuk drama so you shouldn't expect any skinship beyond holding hands and longing stares. I can't believe people are complaining about the age gap because of possible intimate scenes.
