When an absurd and ridiculous drama like Romance of Tiger and Rose gets an 8.7 and this gets 8.0 you know something is amiss. This drama is an absolute gem. This is the darkest and most depressing drama I've seen but in the end it leaves you appreciating and thinking how precious life is no matter how banal it might be. It requires a bit more subtlety to appreciate this kind of drama. If your the type that enjoy fleeting emotions, bratty acting and Superwoman type FL you will never understand this drama. The FL is quiet, loyal and has an unbending spirit.

She was flawless in Bloody Romance. Her best performance yet. The problem though is she is picking unsuitable roles. She plays darker roles to the hilt. She should go back to that. I could not even finish Sword Dynasty and that also had Li Xian in it.

I still remember the first time I saw him in Secrets of the Three Kingdoms as Cao Pi and was wowed by his acting. This guy can act. His delivery and nuance expressions are top notch. He is an idol but you never see him in an idol drama.

What kind of potion did Yukee Chen use she got to star opposite Li Yifeng, Qu Xiao, Luo Yunxi and Wang Yibo on her dramas.

Yang Yang in another gaming and Gu Man drama? I'm in. He is honestly the perfect e-sport ML along with Li Xian and Wang Yibo. I read he would also have been Han Shang Yan but he choose to be Ye Xiu. I think if he had done Go Go Squid he probably would not have accepted this drama.

What only 7.1 for a thought provoking and well acted drama? This is not your typical run of the mill drama that you forget as soon as it ends. The OST is still stuck in my head after all these years and is on my Mandarin song playlist on Spotify. My most favorite character here is Fu Rong, I love how nonchalant and practical she is. I love her aristocratic arrogance. Nothing perturbs her until she meets that manga creator.

There are a lot of underrated dramas out there likewise there also dramas that defy sanity for it to be rated so highly. This is one of those dramas. If lead couple chemistry is the only criteria then I admit 9's would not be unusual. I suppose since this is a romcom masquerading as wuxia nobody bothered with the silly plot and the FL's manic and outrageous behavior. Her strategies are utter fail most of the time and it just brush off as being cute. For someone who is actually privy to future events she cannot actually do anything rational or appropriate. Success or failure is literally a Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun minus 1 bullet. I spent the entire time waiting to see where her outlandish and illogical solutions will lead to.

Despite its flaws this is still a very good watch. One can always complain about the acting of the leads but overall this has a very compelling story and is one of better recent wuxia dramas. My favorites for this half of the year are Handsome Siblings and Love a Lifetime.

Officially one of the most overrated dramas ever PERIOD! I need to repeat that again because I actually posted the same thing a while ago. I should have stop watching at episode 12 when ZLS schizophrenic, overbearing and know-it-all character was already getting on my nerve. What an atrocious trainwreck ending! I really need to remind myself never to get caught in the hype. I think getting 8 is already an overreach for this silly drama.

Yup better than Go Go Squid as I'm watching it nearing its end. A lot of frustrations but the growth, trials, and hard choices the characters especially the leads had to go through to achieve their goals was beautiful to see. A solid 8.5+ for me.

Can I have another drama with Wang Yibo and Wang Zi Xuan or as I'd like to call them WangWang couple. I don't know if that's a thing. They really have nice chemistry which is something I never see often in dramas. There usually plot driven and or loaded with skinships to elevate the pairing. There is not much overt romance here honestly but their interactions are beautiful to watch. WZX has genuine sparkle in her eye for WYB. Not that surprising since WYB is very handsome but it's nice to see real admiration in a drama. Overall a great looking and well matched couple.

The cars, the fashion, the technology everything is a big mess in this drama. This is like a mishmash of China from the end of the Qing to the foundation of the PRC. In the future I think Chinese dramas will have 90's teens on their tablets and phones.

Enjoyable but I find the anachronisms rather amusing. It's fine with wuxia and xianxia dramas like Romance of Tiger and Rose to have things and contraptions that did not really exist in ancient China since they are mostly fantastical and their settings are rather vague. This drama though has a definite time and place, 1920's Shanghai. I would think the writers would be a lot more mindful of that fact. There was an episode where a lady was gonna fly out from Shanghai to HK. Don't think planes that time had advanced to the level that they carry passengers that far. I tend to be observant and I do not know how many times I had to check online the things and people alluded to in this drama and whether they existed or where known in that era.

Qiu Ying's stepbrother got hit by a car while trying to promote Qiu Ying when he is the nicest character here. The evil witch Qiao Xin if there is any justice should be hit a by bullet train at the end of this drama. She is absolutely annoying.

An overrated drama. I don't even used that a lot. I see a lot of dramas over 8.5 and I wonder how in the world they get that high. This though takes the cake. I'm at episode 12 and I'm getting extremely irritated by Zhao Lusi's one note manic bratty acting and her character's ridiculous behavior.

True an unfortunate fact that is lost on many people. Unlike Sungyunkwan Scandal that is only a decade old Butterfly Lovers has been part of Chinese lore for more than a thousand years. I would think Sungkyunkwan Scandal was the one that was inspired by the Butterfly Lovers seeing it was already a popular plot device in the mainland dramas at that time and also the fact that the story was already familiar to Koreans as they were strongly influenced by the Chinese for most of their history.

You seem to be really invested in making the FL the scapegoat on why this drama is not rated so highly. The ML's fans seem to be especially prone to deflecting criticisms of Chen's performance. It seems they are in a parallel universe where Arthur Chen is like his upcoming costar Leo Luo or Leo Wu or Liu Haoran, a capable actor.

Between the ML and FL. Let's face it neither of them was gonna do the dirty work of doing the acting. The FL at least is not bad in her first starring role. The ML though is a problem since this is already his second lead role and that coming from his first where his poor acting had already been pointed out. I would have thought his father would have talk him into honing his skills instead of making the drama where he stars as practice sessions. He is not a talented actor, I just wish the next time he shows he actually gives a more substantial performance instead of relying on his charisma to pull off scenes. That said this is an enjoyable wuxia drama and if you enjoy this kind of genre then I'd say this is still worth watching.

I guess I spoke too soon when I said this was better than GGS. At episode 9 I found out how incredibly frustrating and annoying the FL really is. Unusually rude and overbearing to her half brother who is actually kind to her but at the same time is a doormat and acts meek in front of her antagonistic coworker. Did she knock her head somewhere because I find it incredible that she is so easily misled and blackmailed by those who hate her yet acts like a barking guard dog against her own family. I did not see this coming.
