I dropped it twice but I decided to give it one more chance because this is the kind of drama I like to watch…
I loved this drama precisely for all of the talk. It was so well written and intelligent. Their dialogue was the most tense back and forth between people on screen. Reminded me a lot of GOT.

Stick it out. You do not need to fully understand who everyone is...trust me you will not regret it. If you drop it in the first episode like I did twice... you will miss out on an amazing, well acted, literally the best show ever...

It's been a year and I can't get enough of Nirvana in Fire. I talk about it endlessly to anyone that would listen. I recommend it to every one. People call it the Chinese Game of Thrones... I can see why because the intrigue is huge with this show. I, personally, feel like this show is more Breaking Bad than GOT. There is not much physical fighting action (to be compared to GOT) but the intrigue, the character development, the political plotting (very GOT like) ...I wrote a review for this show and realized that more people read the comments. So... please watch it. Don't drop this show after one episode. It gets better. You cannot just simply watch this show while doing something else because you will get lost. Man when Mei Chang Su starts acting on his plans... you will be thoroughly entertained. Now I need to go watch Signal because it is rated just as high as Nirvana...

I don't watch a lot of Asian dramas...period. But after Nirvana...everything gets compared to Nirvana. I would love to see a drama that can match Nirvana. I would watch it in an instance.

Trust me... I totally understand where you are coming from. I fell asleep multiple times during the first episode. Stick it out to at least episode 3...things get MUCH clearer once you figure out who the hell everyone is...

Sorry you felt this way. I dropped this drama after the first episode but after seeing so many people raving about it...I decided to give it another chance. I felt bored throughout the first episode because I couldn't figure out what the storyline was...I was confused. But I stuck it through to episode 3 and I was hooked for the rest of the way. Things get much clearer once you understand who Mei Chang Su is...and his motives for going back to Liang.

It was definitely unclear. What I took from it was that Prince Yu was never going to be emperor because he was the son of the Hua Princess. However, the emperor fanned Prince Yu's ambitions so that he could set up a power clash between Prince Yu and the Crown Prince. I think the emperor lied.
