This is a masterpiece. Don't understand low rating on MDL, needs a bump into at least 9.0.
The ratings reflects all viewers thoughts on the show, not just your own. It just shows this drama is merely worth 8.6 on this platform (at this current time. we don't know who will watch in the future and give etc ratings to either raise or lower the rating) Take into account not everyone uses MDL as a platform, so ratings may or may not even be true to the majority opinion. For example on imbd it's only rated 8.1.
It was alright. The plot twist and ending wasn't the best, imo. I was more interested in the cop and where he would be going but his story ended abruptly. Since this story is a game of luck and gamble with minor strategy, I didn't really care for the character's efforts. Most of y'all are gonna die anyway and I know who the main character(s) is so, it's less exciting.
The story itself is very vague with little explanation for just about anything. You can probably enjoy it just for the sake of enjoying people stress themselves out trying to survive but if you want some kind of backstory, I don't think that happened here.
Perhaps this is considered god-tier for some people but I thought this was pretty average.
I don't usually watch Chinese dramas because of the ugly voice overs, no hate, but I just dislike voice overs because they're so obvious and ruin the experience for me. I stuck through this one because at least some characters still spoke raw. The voice over work later in the show was ugly, like very.
I thought the bromance was great. They mask it by calling it "brotherhood/friendship" to bypass China's hideous censorship and cave dwelling ideology, but the chemistry and love still shown through, like a middle finger right up China's face. Yunlan and Shenwei were definitely in love, no matter what they say. If they just added some slight hand or shoulder touching (ya know, like that lingering feeling of not wanting to let go), maybe a hug or two during emotional scenes, this would have counted for BL 100% just because their eyes already tell the entire story.
The story overall was decent but the formula was kind of awful. The formula of mysterious crime case to solve then it unraveling only to have a basic exposition to explain why, was kind of boring, especially when the final boss, Yezun, was nothing more than a lil bro that misunderstood his big bro. Like you can't make this stuff up. Most if not all the "evil" characters in this drama were simply misunderstanding the situation. That gets tedious after a while. They couldn't just have a genuine Dixing person just hate the underworld and wanna take over? No misunderstanding, no sad background, just someone with severe hatred. Although I think the formula was kind of awful, I did like how most things fell into place like puzzle pieces.
For example, the time traveling was a surprise for me. When we first saw the flashback of Kun Lun eating the lollipop I thought "They had lollipops 10,000 years in the past? What kind of scriptwriting is this?" Of course, even though the time traveling explained the lollipop, it still doesn't explain how Yunlan felt kinship with Shenwei the first time they met because at that point in time, he has not traveled in the past to meet Shenwei yet, nor had he met him as the Black Cloaked Envoy (they met officially as Black Cloaked Envoy and SID Officer a couple scenes after). Initially before the time travel was revealed I thought this was a reincarnation thing just because Yunlan said he felt kinship, so I thought in the past, they knew each other, but Kun Lun died and reincarnated as Yunlan.
The support characters were meh. I personally liked the puppet master guy the most, everyone else was just kind of bland. Newbie recruit was probably the worst, just because he was neither cute nor likable. He just felt more like a waste of space? Ghost girl comes in close second.
The acting was good. I especially like Yilong's eyes. Very expressive.
The one thing I can say I really liked about this was Yunlan's journey on discovering Shenwei's identity. It was interesting to see Yunlan piece it all together and Shenwei basically shitting his pants the closer he is to getting caught.
Overall, a decent watch with solid bromance.
Edit: oh I forgot. One confusion I have about this is what exactly is the underworld? Based on the first episode introduction, it looks like the world Dixing folks live is underneath the solid ground of earth. That’s why they don’t have sunlight. But later, they make it seem like the underworld is another dimension, connected to earth by the portals. They even have a sky after the resolution. Did I miss something or they changed up the story?
The synopsis can be a little misleading, imo, regarding the sister rivalry. It insinuates Mingla will be involved…
But once Mingla gets sent off to the other region, she ceases any actual involvement with Manmuang and Sukkawong. She ends up having her own story about trying to climb up the social status latter and gets completely destroyed by the evil wife of the King, Susu. When I read the synopsis I thought the three of them would be in one place and follow through with the typical sister bully sister for a man story. I almost didn't wanna watch this because I thought that's how it would be. It's a good thing it wasn't like that and all that Mingla actually did for their relationship is cause Manmuang to be insecure and misunderstand Sukkawong.
The synopsis can be a little misleading, imo, regarding the sister rivalry. It insinuates Mingla will be involved with the two's love development. Spoilers in replies.
I don't know. I think Yaya and Nadech both worked hard on this and it was funny for the most part. The acting was good and the concept was interesting. But I think it failed to deliver.
If the point of the swap was to show that they've changed as people then I don't think this happened.
Ramin was a player and never cared for his fiance's feelings, even at the very end of their relationship when they talked about their feelings, he still tried to hide behind "you're a good person and I don't want to let you go" despite knowing full well in the next few scenes he would admit his feelings for Petra and they would get together. Imo, his character didn't really change all that much. He just went from someone who's an asshole to someone with some attachment to one lover, and that's not really something worth praising. What happened to him is still very much below the bar.
Petra was a selfish person who only cared about herself. She treated everyone like they were dirt and only pretended to be nice to people who could benefit her. She was as fake as it got. Like Ramin, she changed a little bit, but overall, I don't think she was that much different from when she was in the beginning. Learning 'some' self-control around other people does not automatically mean you've changed all that much. The bar is still very low for Petra as well.
I think I like the second couple. They were nice people and through time together they fell in love naturally. They weren't problematic and they were self-aware. Easy and simple.
The character dynamic was also another issue. I felt like once they swapped, their characters completely changed. Petra, although can be loud and whiny, was rather composed in front of people. Ramin, although someone with a high position, was rather bratty. When they swapped and Petra went into Ramin's body, she (he - Nadech acting) just became a child-like character that screamed and cried, with zero composure. When Ramin went into Petra's body, he (she - Yaya acting) became so composed and serious and completely lost his brattiness. When they swapped, they lost specific characteristics that was unique to their original character, which felt weird to me, because I know Petra wasn't this much of a cry-baby, so why was Nadech acting like such a weakling, and Ramin wasn't this serious, so why was Yaya so monotone throughout the show.
When considering the plot, I thought the addition of the karma bit about them being lovers for past generations and not being able to get together until this generation, was a bit much? I don't know, I just think that's an easy way out? Using that to explain why they swapped makes it too simple? I wish there was more story behind their swapping than "old karma".
I liked that Ramin (in Petra's body) actually carried the baby to term and gave birth. The fact that they didn't make them switch halfway and make Petra give birth, was a nice touch to the story. But The ending was rushed. I felt like they could have expanded more on the swapping and explain better how things actually work, rather than just saying it's karma and falling nearing death, causes them to swap.
Overall, funny watch. If you're not in the mood to watch anything serious, this would be good on the list.
Here are the things I thought that were good about this drama. I thought the main's relationship was cute. You can really feel the tension between them as they struggle between love and duty. The forehead touching thing they do shows their longing for each other while unable to actually do anything about it. Another thing I thought was good was the relationships of characters in general. Such as D-Team, Prince Aaron and Pean, and others. Overall, I thought the showcase of characters and each of their struggles was done well.
Now here are the things I thought weren't that good. I think the editing needed work. Everything was very fast paced due to the way things were edited together. This is particularly noticeable in the earlier episodes. I also think the choice of background music needed to change as well. Some scenes you can tell it's not even intense or they're just having a normal conversation, but the background music will be this fast paced intense hyping music that completely changes the tone/mood of the scene. Personally it ruins the scene. It's not as intense as you make it out to be, so no need for the intense music.
The actress for Petra is very underutilized. She's been in multiple action central movies and we know she can give a good fight scene. I feel like they didn't show her true potential in this drama. She barely had any fight scenes, the most she did was be a messenger for Alice. On her fight scene with the bad guy, she ended up getting stabbed and faked death. When she came back to fight him again, it's under very poor lighting and we barely see anything. Her resume is packed to the brim with good action movies but they didn't even use her for what she has to offer, very unfortunate.
While we're on the topic of fight scenes, I also think the action scenes in this drama was exaggerated and cringy. There's too much posing/showing rather than actual combat. They wanted it to look pretty and forgot fighting life and death isn't a pretty thing. It's so uncomfortable seeing Alice and Davin get all tangled together flipping back and forth fighting off bad guys while in an open area and no bullet ever so much as even scraped the area around them. How do you fight with guns and have absolutely nothing to hide behind and still somehow not get shot by the 5 to 10 gunman coming after you? Talk about miracles.
Overall, I think this was okay. Not the best but I've seen worse. I gave it a 7/10.
i can watch anything as long as its fun but im a bl fan at heart. im not even gonna lie i started this because of one gif i found on google of james and daew doing the forehead kiss scene lolol the bts was hilarious
after finishing this i suspect this only has a rating below 8.0 because it wasn't subbed so a lot of the international fans wouldn't be able to give it a true rating based on understanding what they're saying. i think once subs complete ratings will change.
the double amnesia really did it for me lol I was like man, this is a kdrama moment right here. The gram tried so hard to sabotage Yeeo's feelings for Nam. I feel bad for Nan though, she just really liked Yeeo and got her hopes up cuz the gram was being unreasonable. Gram knew full well Yeeo didn't like Nan and still went for it lol. That's what happen when adults act like they know best for their kids. Not only did Nan get hurt but Yeeo will feel bad about hurting her too. Yes, I am full on blaming the gram for this, don't @ me. I know she only had good intentions but good intentions don't excuse none. Since we're on the topic of Nan, I wanna confess that I thought Yeeo and Nan's moments were pretty nice. Even though Yeeo was fake flirting with her to make Nam jealous, I kind of dig their interactions. I hope to see them cast in main roles in the future as a couple.
Overall, I agree with other comments that this was super easy to get into. It was a fun watch. Although I do have to admit that I skipped a lot of the later parts just because it became pretty predictable what's going to happen. With that being said, because I skipped a lot, I didn't think I would need to know the little details, but apparently I do? Because what was up with that ending? lol. If the reason Yeeo could see Nam was because they have a special connection, then who and how does the female spirit at the end have connections with them? Is she just random? I thought it was an odd little addition to the ending.
the actors are limited lol people from the same channel end up acting with each other again and again. especially popular actors that will sell the show
Can someone tell me where i can watch this legally ? Cause it ain't available on wetv , crunchyroll and tver in…
I think those are the only legal options. You'll have to get a VPN to access. There are free VPN extensions available if you just google search it. I for one use Urban VPN which is free. It probably won't work as well as paid VPNs but it works, at least for me. Otherwise you can watch it on irozuku.org. It's not legal, but watching it on any other website, like dramacool or kissasian, or watchasian, you will notice that the videos on there are taken from irozuku and still has the watermark, so might as well watch it at its source, rather than watch it on a third website.
Sooo who exactly is Rome in this? I mean he has a main role but wasn't mentioned in that longa*s synopsis *scratches…
uhm definitely a year late but he is Paul Lee, a famous designer that Kat admires. But their relationship starts off a little rough. They end up working together though because Paul's sister is in a relationship with Peter, who is Kat's cousin. Plus Paul kind of has work relationships with Huisan and the company. Paul and Kat end up meeting a lot for work stuff and that's how they end up falling for each other.
The story itself is very vague with little explanation for just about anything. You can probably enjoy it just for the sake of enjoying people stress themselves out trying to survive but if you want some kind of backstory, I don't think that happened here.
