Although there are 3 main female leads, this isn't a romance so there is no pairing... And Chen Guo is only annoying in the drama. In the novel, she isn't even over the top; I don't know why they made her like that..

Ummm, when was there ever romance involved in the anime?? Both the anime and novel were never classified or tagged as romance. If you are expecting romance for TKA, you're watching the wrong drama.
TKA is more about brotherhood/ camaraderie not romance.

YX is a veteran who has been in Glory E-Sport since it first started so it makes sense to want test out how his new unspecialized character would compare to Wenzhou's specialized character.
It gives both YX and Wenzhou a chance to see if they could compete with said class and where they need to improve.

They even said that YX declined the "other positions", which was only as a training partner and not an actual Glory player, they offered him.
Also, YX knew that even if he stayed as only a training partner, Excellent Era would still find a way to force him to leave.
Since YX has never appeared in front of the camera and no one know's what he looks like, most people believe what Excellent Era said.
