Completely deserved! Such a well-produced drama in every way; from the OST to the perfect shift between comedy and seriousness to the acting. Top notch!
Interesting combos; Yamapi & Kame back together, and Kimura and Nanao in a rather different relationship to Siren. The first episode was good, catchy and engaging right off the bat! High hopes it stays entertaining
Lol, this is literally just a remake of the exact same deal? I was looking forward to this because I thought it would take a different spin, new angle, all that. But aside from younger actors/stresses, everything looks the same - down to the way they talk, facial expressions, exact scenes. Seriously? I'm judging it from the trailer so it could be better in the real deal, but I think I'll stick to my 2003 drama.
I really love what Satoko, the main lead, says: "I decide whether or not I'm happy". This drama really highlights how happiness means different things for different people, there's no guarantee to be satisfied with life even if you follow a set pattern - marriage, job, children, etc. I thought this was fun, relatable and heartwarming without being too sappy.
I really don't understand why the villain of the last two episodes had to have those blue lenses. I couldn't concentrate on anything else but those photoshop-looking lenses, and no one commented on them in the drama so I guess the point was to make her look more villain-y? Couldn't they let her act instead of giving her props that would do it for her? And when can we ever get a woman villain who doesn't do the "crazy bitch" laugh and all that crap? Shouji's constant bullshit, and some things surrounding the psychology discussions sounded pretty questionable to me. But the cases are interesting and so is Todo's character (especially concerning her "psychopathy" and how that plays into her job as a detective). It's worth watching for that I think.
This turned out much better than expected. I was not expecting much from Kitagawa's stiff acting, but she really made it work with the character of Sangenya. Each story is enjoyable and filled with heart warming moments, but the comedy really was the main appeal for me. I haven't laughed this much in a while!
I just finished re-watching Maou and I can only agree that it's one of the best suspense dramas I've seen. I also really loved Unfair and Byakuyako. I need to watch The Quiz Show!
I've just re-watched this and I'm happy to say it holds up for re-watching (which some dramas definitely don't). While Ikuta Toma's character is rather flimsy (quick to jump to conclusions, runs everywhere, overdramatic, moodswings, all that) Ohno does such a wonderful job as Naruse. It's really one of the best acting performances I've seen in jdrama. The last episode is done to such perfection (except for possibly the last few minutes), it's such a fitting ending for the story. Highly recommend!
Haha, thanks for a good laugh! The "be sick" is one trope I'm really sick and tired of - and let's not forget the "car accident leading to memory loss" bit that comes about two thirds into the drama.
I second the thing about low ratings - and also, I find the reverse often to be true, not so much in terms of ratings but in popularity. Very popular jdramas are not necessarily great dramas, so it's worth looking for dramas a bit everywhere, not just go with the hyped ones.
So far the acting is kind of meh, pretty stereotypical characters, harem likely to happen and all that - but I can't help but love this already! Of the summer dramas of this season so far, this is the only one I've really enjoyed the first episode. It's summery, it's light and fun, basically feel-good. It's a bit cliché in terms of romance but it also has solid moments - especially when it's all about 'food. I'm really looking forward to watching more of this!
For me the first couple of episodes were really hard to get through because they made me so frustrated and ANGRY, how unfair treatment some characters got, how shitty people can be. But in the end it's a very uplifting and heartwarming story about a bunch of different people who find a place they belong - whether that be a geographical location or a circle of friends. Overall it's a very well made drama, the only character I felt was lacking was Tanaka herself. A bit one dimensional, I could appreciate the idea of her and her values - I just didn't feel like she was a "real" person the way I felt with the other characters. But I definitely recommend it if you like food/drama/friendship type stories!
I'm surprised this is so popular. I found Satomi's character incredibly annoying (chivalrous "hero" going to save the weak girlfriend and get justice!) and Yuki's character so underdeveloped (of course she had to be the martyr, "save me" shit). There were too many points in this that I was just eye-rolling at, too convenient like when the girl in coma wakes up EXACTLY at the right time to be a witness, the timing for every piece and even that Satomi "figured it out" so early seems unrealistic, especially because Kara/Sachi is supposed to be this mastermind. What I did like about the drama/what made me keep watching was Kara as a villain, she was absolutely great except for the evil laughter (oh man..) and the twists along the way, the last episode especially, were great! Too bad there was the "justice" talk in the finale episode to drag it down, "Life isn't worth living if it's only for yourself". Rant over.
This was so much FUN! Feels like Matsumoto had fun doing the character of Miyama. Not just him though, I feel like you can often tell when the actors/tresses of a drama is having fun while doing their job - sometimes there'll be moments where it almost feels "off-camera", where the characters will laugh although it's not really 'appropriate' in the situation of the drama. Anyway - this was great! Not a big fan on law but this was really well done from start to end!
