Jae Hoon's backstory is even more heart-breaking than I expected. I can see why he left the hospital after the incident.
As for the episode, I just think it's funny how everyone was piling on Yeo Reum based on the previews and it turns out she didn't even do anything wrong and is actually trying to protect Jae Hoon. The lesson - previews are deceptive.
There wasn't much development of their story in ep 9 though so I'm hoping for more tomorrow. SFL remains sad as always but I did enjoy what looked like a slight spark between the chef and the webtoon artist. Maybe he will turn out to be a decent human being after all.
XiaoRan did call him. He wasn’t answering her calls. That’s why she gave up and packed her stuff. She kept…
Oh. I don't watch the previews so I don't know anything about what's coming up. I still don't get why he didn't just tell her his father was sick and then died. Very weird behaviour that I'm sure they'll try to explain as some sort of noble idiot plot.
It feels like I'm the only one trying to defend Shang Qi, but even I can't explain why he didn't just tell Xiao Ran that his father was ill and then that his father died. Whatever else is happening, that should've been communicated immediately but for whatever reason, he decided to keep it to himself and create even more misunderstandings. I know it could be the grief and the shock but even before the old man died he should've told her what was going on. I also don't know how Xiao Ran didn't call him at least once knowing the crisis she left him to deal with in 7 days. It seems she forgot everything her mother said as soon as she left Hu Pu.
The break up is clearly about to happen but I would've liked it more if it happened for a better reason. Not communicating like they're teenagers is frustrating especially when they used to say they wasted so much time apart so they wouldn't let each other go now.
I hope Fei'er has chosen to do something meaningful with her life now especially if it involves getting revenge on Zhao. At least she didn't do anything to get in the way of Xiao Ran and Shang Qi's relationship in eps 19 & 20. Those two are messing that up all by themselves.
I agree with you mostly. I agree with everything you said about Xiao Ran and Shag Qi and even Zhao, but not about…
At that point, no one there was trying to help Fei'er and they were actually close to crushing her. I agree that it was a bad look carrying her off while Xiao Ran was also on the floor, but the situation, like most things in life, is far from cut and dry. He clearly prioritises Xiao Ran over everyone else, but he is also trying not to be the reason his family business crashes and takes down everyone working there. Fei'er used the connection to the business to stay close to him because if it wasn't for her marrying Zhao, there's no way Shang Qi would even know where she was or what she was doing. He doesn't care about her like that.
Unfortunately, Xiao Ran's insecurities keep being stoked by the situations he ends up in so it's hard to see that the business and his past with Fei'er are two very different things.
I agree with you mostly. I agree with everything you said about Xiao Ran and Shag Qi and even Zhao, but not about…
I agree that Fei'er has done despicable things and she's selfish. I pity her because it was so easy for her to turn out different but like I said, she took every wrong turn available and she continues to. Even now, this could've been an opportunity for her to be a good person but she didn't even try. I could rant about her all day too tbh cos she's such an idiot and a terrible friend.
As for Shang Qi... I think most of the things that happened were out of his control and before he could tell Xiao Ran, she found out from some other source. As for walking Fei'er down the aisle, I don't see how he could've informed anybody at that critical moment since they were already waiting for the bride. But I also thought it was stupid of him to carry Fei'er out when Xiao Ran was on the floor. I just think he's trying cos whatever else may be going on, things with Fei'er are also connected to his family's future and Fei'er knows that and tries to manipulate him with that too.
In conclusion, Fei'er is also an a-hole, but I pity her cos she could've been so much more.
This show has some of the most infuriating characters I've ever had the misfortune of watching. In Joo has to take the cake for the absolute stupidest person to ever exist. I simply cannot understand how a person goes through so much in the span of such a short time and yet learns nothing at all. She didn't get smarter, she didn't get more wily, nothing. She was always the last to see what was right in front of her, almost as if she'd decided early on in life to always be the biggest fool in any room and so that was all she worked at. I had to stop watching it halfway through because I'd get so angry every episode, but now I'm trying to power through and it doesn't get any better.
I won't even touch on the youngest sister cos I'm trying to forget that character even exists. The show is beautifully made. Production quality is excellent and the direction is superb too. I'm not even mad at the writing. It just makes me so angry watching characters run up against a brick wall and then keep running at it like they're bugging in a game.
After ep 18, I can see them breaking up. Setting an arbitrary deadline of 7 days to clear everything up when so much is going on is just asking for trouble. I completely understand Xiao Ran not wanting to be in Hu Pu any more when it's obvious that Fei'er will never take her claws out of Shang Qi willingly. I also understand Shang Qi feeling obligated to stay there and sort out the family business, especially after he's finally started mending his relationship with his father.
I don't think Shang Qi will be able to leave in 7 days or 7 weeks and I'm not certain Xiao Ran will talk to him or even listen to an explanation unless it is forced on her. I can see her trying to repeat the past and forget everything about him but I doubt that will work this time.
As for Fei'er, I really pity her. It's like she took every wrong turn available in her desperate need to escape her horrific family and now she's left with nothing but the memory of her past life with Shang Qi and she's trying to recreate that. I want to believe she could be a better person but she actually has to try first.
I feel really bad for all three of them because none of them asked for this. Fei'er did everything that disgusting man wanted just so she could escape her miserable past and he still threw her to the wolves just to win against Shang Qi and his family. Shang Qi is just trying to do his part to support his family business. And Xiao Ran just wants to be happy with the man of her dreams. The real demon here is Zhao. He's just an a-hole for no apparent reason.
I was prepared to be mad at Shang Qi when Fei'er showed up again but so far he's been good at drawing boundaries and keeping them, even between Fei'er and Xiao Ran. I think the real problem they will have is miscommunication but I'm hoping Xiao Ran takes her mother's wonderful advice to always talk things out before they escalate and become unmanageable.
It's obvious Fei'er will need to step up her game if she wants to break them up because Shang Qi won't let petty disagreements be the reason his relationship with Xiao Ran ends. I suspect she'll try to manipulate him into a compromising situation that he can't quickly explain because it will involve his family business as well.
Fei'er is such a miserable person but I find it hard to sympathise when she built this cage for herself and now she's upset that anyone else is happy. She made all the wrong choices in life for all the wrong reasons, and now she's suffocating but rather than find a way to break free, she's trying to pull other people into her misery. Even if Shang Qi was single, she knows he would not have any feelings for her since they both know that those feelings died a long time ago, but she's particularly angry that Xiao Ran is with him and they're actually happy. Just a bitter, miserable human being.
I am enjoying this show a lot, it has potential and I always look forward to seeing it every week. The only complaint…
I think it's been mentioned before that she was not meant to be queen because she was a commoner with no connections. I think that's one of the reasons the dowager hates her and her children. I don't really remember if they said how she became queen though.
I don't really like the king. Out of all of the characters, the king is the most confusing. He acts all righteous,…
It's possible that he has been oblivious to the schemes of his mother and her allies to some extent. He may think she lobbied to get him appointed but never imagined that she actually murdered the crown prince before him. He is a good king to the people but ultimately not very wily or smart about internal politics in the palace.
I knew from the start that the Crown Prince was only going to be here for a short time but my goodness, it was heartbreaking to watch him deteriorate while the Queen was locked away, helpless. I couldn't help crying at the end of the episode and I really need everyone responsible to be punished severely.
Okay, first of all.... the love for Kang Chae-Ri on this comment section is because she's an interesting character-…
I wouldn't be shocked if she does that at the wedding episode just to increase ratings! Cos if they start avoiding each other things will be boring and regular again so she'll need to pull something off to get renewed for another season.
If you say something in front of cameras, you know what is going to happen.CR is not creating plot lines, she…
I definitely agree that Chae Ri did not create the assualt plot line, but she's still an a-hole. Also filming the cast when they had an expectation of privacy is problematic any way you slice it. If she had to hide to get the footage then she knew it was wrong.
I also haven't seen Yeo Reum playing with people's emotions and acting innocent but maybe I missed something.

Her first solution was to bargain with Chae Ri in the terms the latter would accept and if Jae Hoon had simply refused, then she would probably have done what her junior did and deleted the footage herself. My point is he could have said no at any point. The fact that he's in love with her doesn't mean he has no autonomy. He presented himself as an option for her but in this circumstance it was simply too far and that's what he should've said.
As for her being a wall, when given the option of having a victim of SA be publicly humiliated and maybe have her life ruined for ratings, and making an uncomfortable request of her best friend, she tried to choose the lesser of 2 evils. Maybe given more time she could've come up with another solution, but just like having Jae Hoon sub on the show, she was handed a live grenade with no time to process and Chae Ri breathing down her neck and threatening her with someone else's wellbeing, again.
I don't think anyone is arguing that the request wasn't uncomfortable or even a dick move, but the crucifixion of Yeo Reum is the thing I don't agree with.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Chae Ri is secretly filming Yeo Reum and Jae Hoon even now to be honest. This type of behaviour is why she had poop thrown in her face.
I think Kang Chae Ri re-edited that first episode on purpose to help FL get her shit together, not just raise…
I'm not convinced she did it to help anyone but herself tbh. I still don't think she's a terrible human being but there's definitely something broken in her and I'd like to know what it is.
