My heart broke for poor, vulnerable CSS when she sat through that ugly putdown by her mother (and father). And to have kept such composure in the circumstances says a lot about her strength and character. LBY is absolutely right, CSS is the perfect person to be his life partner. Actually, he's probably the only person who has the best assessment of her personality and character right now. He's seen and observed her in more situations than most everyone else, aside from her maid. However, her maid wasn't present in Hua city and the courage and ingenuity CSS displayed in the face of danger and death is not something one often comes across in young ladies of that time. Even Ah Fei, hardened by battle as one of LBY's feared guards, expressed open admiration of her capabilities.
CSS is so smart, thinks very quickly on her feet and is protective of her family. Even when her heart, reputation and dignity has been torn to shreds by her own mother, she still sought to diffuse the situation and save her family by having the marriage proposal withdrawn by LBY himself so that it wouldn't be a case of her parents going against an imperial edict. She made herself out to be an entirely unsuitable wife with her direct question to LBY. Any other suitor would've withdrawn the proposal at that point, and no one would've blamed him for doing so. She definitely was not expecting LBY to remain steadfast in his intent to marry her. He went even further beyond her expectations by turning what was deemed by societal norms as faults, into commendable strengths. And specifically, character strengths uniquely suited to the person he wants to spend a lifetime with. LBY, in very few words, told her and everyone else that he values her for who she is and that to him, she is far above all others as there can be no replacement for CSS in his life.
I am looking forward to both their growth as individuals and in their relationship with each other.

I'm not a fan of any specific actor but I'm loving this pairing of WL and ZLS.
And because I've had this on replay since Thursday, Ep 24 ...........
