äWhat I thought of the series: Yes, yes and more Yes. They have managed to get me hooked on a series. Love can develop from an early age, at least if you don't know that these feelings are love.

Good and bad at the same time

If I could give two separate votes I would do it.
Being a Donghua lover I found myself conflicted in watching the drama.
The first 15 episodes are a mess. Parts of the story cut out or modified, focus on useless points leaving out the basics of Han Li's growth and character development.
Women inserted all at the same time not respecting the timing and only creating confusion. I literally dropped the drama while loving the story and the actor Yang Yang.
Then I decided to insist and I took him back. I did well!
From episode 16 everything is back on track and flows smoothly without the hitches created by senseless cuts and plot changes.
The acting is good, CGI is good and the fighting are stellar.
So, to avoid low rating, if you like the donghua version, start from episode 14 and you won't be disappointed

TW: Domestic Violence

Here's my list of pros and cons:

Pros: the relationship between Kyoko and Reiko, the way they walked this fine line of enemies, friends and acquaintances, and never truly felt close as sisters theoretically should. But above all, the relationship between Kyoko and Moriyama, in every corner when I thought he'd disappoint me, he always managed to surprise me, meaning the writers did a great job with his character development despite him not being one of the leads. The ending in particular was my favorite part of their relationship, it's not always that we see men be supportive of their girlfriends not only being great at what they do, but being better than them, and it's also not every day that we see a couple decide to follow an alternative way of being together and it be successful, and I'm a firm believer that if more people decided to not stick to the norm of living together, sleeping in the same bed, having kids, etc., they'd be much happier.

Pros and cons: The world of Shogi, which is something I didn't know about and loved to learn, and how Kyoko broke into its patriarchal system. However, I wish we had seen her open the doors not only to her, but to other women too, the teen Shogi player we see near the end of the story could've been a girl, or one of her nieces could have followed her path, especially the one who resembled Reiko so that it wasn't too obvious, or maybe we could have seen her start training female Shogi hopefuls.

Cons: the relationship between Reiko and Masao. I was already weirded out by the fact that Masao had feelings for Reiko since she was a child, then add that to the fact that he hit her across the face and the whole thing completely lost me. I didn't feel any comradery or understanding or any love between them, it all felt from beginning to end like she settled for him. And speaking of settling for a man who doesn't deserve you: the story between the girls parents Chiaki and Kyoichi. I was livid that after all the abuse she endured by him, not only did the story brough them back together, but it was all heavily supported by their daughters, who themselves were also victims of his behavior, who were also abandoned by him, ignored by him, mistreated by him. And when I put that plot together with the rest of the drama, the respect Moriyama had for Kyoko's ambitions and decisions for their relationship, the way women's participation in professional Shogi was at the forefront of the story, it just doesn't add up to the writer purposely advocating for a woman to allow a man who played in her face to return to her life. It was embarrassing and disgusting to watch, and that's the reason why my rating, which initially was a 9, ended in an 8.

Slowly losing patience with the FL

This drama started out great. I love the acting of all the characters. The main couple are adorable. I can understand why the FL initially hated the ML. But 25 episodes in and the hatred just doesn't seem to go away!!!
Her misunderstanding the ML started getting old real fast. I've been feeling so bad for him. Poor guy has been mistreated and misunderstood his whole life. The FL is supposed to see the real him and help him. Instead she just adds to his heartbreak and troubles. Even when she finds out the truth, she still hates him for deceiving her. Hello?!?!?! What about you trying to kill him and ruin him at every turn?

This drama is starting to feel like a marvelous lesson in gaslighting. Even after the truth comes put, its the ML apologizing to the FL. Are you kidding me. This breaks my heart because this is a bad script. The acting, the costume, the fight scenes and everything else has been superb. I honestly don't know if I can finish watching this. But I hope the script improves fast.

Mysterious Lotus Casebook: My overall Thought

Mysterious Lotus Casebook stands out as one of the finest wuxia dramas in recent memory, blending heart, intrigue, and breathtaking swordplay into a story that lingers long after the credits roll.

The writing strikes a rare balance between mystery and martial arts, with cases that are not just clever puzzles but also threads that weave into the greater emotional journey of its characters. At its core, this isn’t just about solving crimes or winning duels — it’s about loyalty, sacrifice, and the quiet resilience of the human spirit.

The performances are stellar, bringing depth and nuance to characters who could have easily fallen into cliché. Their relationships, both fraught and tender, elevate the stakes of every conflict. Add to this the exquisite fight choreography — fluid yet brutal, poetic yet tense — and you get wuxia at its best: a fusion of art and action.

Visually stunning, emotionally charged, and narratively gripping, Mysterious Lotus Casebook isn’t just a great drama — it’s arguably the greatest wuxia of its era. A must-watch for anyone who loves the genre.

A disjointed mess that drags more than it inspires.

The Journey of Legend promised an epic tale filled with wonder, heroism, and unforgettable storytelling, but what it delivers instead is a disjointed mess that drags more than it inspires.

The pacing is painfully uneven—slow where it should grip, rushed where it should breathe. Characters feel one-dimensional, with motivations that seem forced rather than earned. The supposed “legendary” journey rarely feels legendary at all, relying too heavily on clichés instead of building genuine stakes or emotional resonance.

Visually, the production had potential, but even the aesthetics can’t cover up the weak writing and uninspired direction. Moments that should have been climactic or moving end up feeling hollow, leaving the audience frustrated rather than fulfilled.

In the end, The Journey of Legend isn’t a grand saga—it’s a disappointing slob of missed opportunities and wasted potential. Unless you’re a die-hard fan desperate for any content in this genre, it’s hard to recommend sitting through it.

Beautiful story

I have seen a lot of modern dramas but this is the most recent one. I was engrossed with the life story depicted by lead roles and how they went through challenges in their lives. I could relate to their life journey as if I was there with them. Good acting throughout. Of all the dramas I have seen, I must say that this drama affected me the most emotionally, causing me to cry/sob just thinking about it especially the epilogue. Last scene where the “forgiveness” card was held by the husband was tragic but so meaningful! I am touched…

Powerful performances, powerful script

I forgot where I was, what time it was and when I had last eaten. It was that good. There are other better reviews out there, and I can only concur that the script is extremely intelligent, nuanced and engrossing (Writer -- Song Hye Jin). The actors gave great performances under what looks like inspired directing (Director --Jo Young Min). Kdrama modern, 2025. 15eps x 1hr +- . The excellent production's technical aspects: camerawork, scene dressings, soundtrack (Roy Kim!!!), are all designed not to intrude on a centrally theatrical piece, upon the exposition of the characters' development and interactions with each other.

The script is just too big to unpack in a review, so I just want to clarify what I think is the central point. One of the central pair of friends, Sang-Yeon, is essentially an old-fashioned sociopath -- she is unable to love and uses others without compunction or shame. For me the actual string of tension throughout the grownup life of Sang-Yeon and EunJung is whether or not Sang-Yeon is going to let loose into full-blown crazed stalker mode at any given point.

She ruins truehearted EunJung's college romance because she wanted the boy for herself but couldn't make it happen. She ruins EunJung's career in film production, and makes millions in the process.

From the very beginning Sang-Yeon hates her little friend Eun Jung, in a classic match up -- Sang-Yeon has material wealth but lacks human affection, while Eun Jung , although very poor, is loved by not only her own mom and her own friends, but by Sang-Yeon's Mom and Sang-Yeon's older brother. Giving love to get love is an avenue closed to those who are, like SangYeon, afraid to open up.

As others around them excuse or puzzle over SangYeon's behavior the usual 'nature/nurture' theories swirl --was she neglected by her mom for her needier older brother, was she just suffering from a worm of envy and jealousy which deformed her personality, or was that constant and careful manipulation of those closest to her simply how she chose to live her life?

This is what makes the ending of the series work, despite it getting a little preachy about ethically-assisted-suicide. Because Sang-Yeon is dying, and because she is still strong-willed enough to force EunJung to help, they verbally bargain their way into the switzerland trip. SangYeon ends up making a public apology for her worst deeds and EunJUng ends up helping her to find a 'good death'. Is it true friendship? No. But it is a true life spent in each others' pockets, as a part of each others' found-families at least.

Now if only I could be sure that EunJung's true love would come back to her...But one thing is for sure, Kim Go Eun and Park Ji Hyun will be nominated for all the awards shows for this one! They were phenomenal.

Mobius: Five Loops, One Day

🔹 What would you do if you could relive the same day five times to stop a crime
🔹 Would I rewatch? Yes

📕 Overview
🔹 The show consists of 16 episodes, combining elements of science fiction, suspense, and crime.
🔹 Adapted from the novel Time Reversal Detective Squad by Zhang Xiaomao
🔹 Bai Jingting plays Ding Qi, a detective who can rewind a day up to five times
🔹 Janice Man plays An Lan, a key ally tied to the biotech thread of the case
🔹 The story begins when a murder notice from “X” suggests that the killer might possess Ding Qi’s looping ability.
🔹 As of this review, not all episodes have been released yet.
🔹 This loop thriller stood out because the five-loop limit makes every choice matter.

🌸 How It Felt Watching
🔹 The story maintained a suspenseful pace and constant tension, making the investigation feel relentless.
🔹 It also allowed for some character development.
🔹 Themes: choice, consequence, surveillance, ethics, and memory.
🔹 It reminded me a little of the Chinese drama Reset (2022), but with a stricter rule set that raises the stakes with each attempt.

✨ Cast & Acting
🔹 Bai Jingting as Ding Qi: He feels reliable in tough scenes, and his performance makes the investigation believable.
🔹 Janice Man as An Lan: She shows a calm front, but you can sense the tension behind it, which works well with the biotech story.
🔹 Supporting cast: Liu Yijun and others add spark and tension that keep the investigation scenes engaging.

🎞️ Production Style
🔹 The cinematography leans into a shadowy city look, with repeat shots that make the time loops easy to follow.
🔹 Labs, bridges, and city streets create a backdrop that sells the biotech conspiracy feel.
🔹 The pacing picks up quickly, and the five chances per day rule keeps the story moving so it never drags.

☕ Tea Notes
🔹 What worked: The five-loop limit kept the tension high, and the chase with a possible loop-enabled villain made each attempt feel risky. The visuals also made it easy to follow the repeats.
🔹 What didn’t: In the early episodes, some of the rules were explained a little too much, which crowded out moments where the characters could have mattered more. These were only small hiccups, and the pacing soon picked up again.

☕ SpillTheDramaTea’s Rating: 10/10
🌿 Tea-Scale: Perfect cup, I’d pour it again anytime, always up for a refill

✏️ As SpillTheDramaTea, okay dramafam, here’s what I want to know: if you had a second chance, would you take it? Do you think finding the truth is always worth the cost?

Smart Women Face Their Fears

A modern story about women and their relationships isn't my usual fare, but Viki showed this as a "leaving soon,"; it had high ratings and was short, so I gave it a try after a long, heavy drama. I used it as a palate cleanser of sorts, and I was pleasantly surprised.

In a limited amount of time, the drama introduced characters, set up the story, and came to a satisfying end with a healing journey taken by both FLs. The leads were attractive and intelligent (and dimples galore) and played their roles well. The shots of the cocktails were enticing; I wanted to try them all! It also had an OST that suited the vibe. Can't ask for more than that in such a short offering.

As I said, this isn't generally my cup of tea, so let me give an extra half star for enjoying something outside of my comfort zone (I generally avoid anything tagged with "infidelity").

Love the Female Lead

I love the storyline and the overall dark theme. I love love love the female lead actress and I think they perfectly paired her with the male lead. The father’s character was so evil and the actor was amazing.

There are a few things I disliked. Why were the episodes so short? They needed to be longer. Why did her fingers have to be cut off when she needs those for her job? They could have injured her in a way that didn’t affect her entire career.

The story wasn’t perfect, but it was close to it. Overall, one of the best shows of the year for me.

Conclusion and solution: patience with ourselves and others, self-reflection and time.

Emotions cannot be rushed, even if we make rational decisions. And rationality cannot be rushed when we make decisions based on emotions.

This film will perhaps only be of real value to those who have experienced what it is like to make a sober decision, while still fully emotionally attached to another, but somewhere we both know that the goodbye must come. We try, we find it hard to let go, we sometimes hope vaguely, we long for it to work, knowing inside that it doesn't make sense. Because common sense and a sense of responsibility, respect for the other and for ourselves are more important. And then it hurts more than anything. Unbearably.

And this film shows it with the most beautiful dramatic elements. I am particularly touched by the piano soundtrack at the end.

Humans are not black or white, they are shades of grey.

First I have to say I watched this because of the actor Matsumoto Leo who played the best side character in "I Cannot Reach You" in 2023. Also the two personalities on the poster intrigued me. But besides that, I went in blind.

This is a story which was needed to be told. I applaud the creators to have the gall in Japan to tell a story which is against the conforming nature of japanese people. It teaches the viewers that man do not need to be masculine and even if they have feminin traits, it does not mean they are all gay. The same goes for the girl, who is on the tomboyish side without the typical expierence doing makeup and dessing up. I won't spoil the rest of the story here, but it was not earth-shattering, but quite nice.

It's more on the light side, telling a story of discovery and exploration especially for the girl. The only downfall is the story about Hikarus parents, especially his father who does not approve of his cross-dressing. We can assume the mother was on his side always and his father came around in the finale but maybe in this case they should have shifted the story more so we could have seen the wedding with the parents... as with many BLs the kissing was again just dead fish kisses which annoys me in EVERY romance.

Overall an atypically japanese romance with atypical people which is worth the watch in my book!
