The Untamed

陈情令 ‧ Drama ‧ 2019
Even though, they are fairly different (one is a cdrama, wuxia with fantastical elements and Haechi is a sageuk), the male lead has a "similar" treatment. Many times he is misjudged but has really good intentions. Maybe if you liked The untamed, Give a try to this one, because you will meet many characters and every one will remain in your heart. Also bromance.

Both are Chinese costume dramas with supernatural tropes and BL theme.

(Spoiler)
Both have a reincarnation theme where the couple is given a second chance.

Playful, more extroverted ML who wears darker clothes flirts and tries to attract attention of stoic, white-wearing other ML who seemingly ignores his interest but is actually affected and despite not outwardly showing as much affection, he tries to protect him against dangers,

Alright, so, I gotta tell you guys about this drama I've been watching – "The Journey of Legend." Now, I know what you're thinking: "Ugh, another wuxia series?" But trust me on this one, especially if you're still obsessed with "The Untamed" like I am.

Okay, it's not a BL drama, so let's get that out of the way. But what I loved about "The Untamed" was how invested I got in the characters, right? Like, I was living their struggles! "The Journey of Legend" gives me that same feeling. This guy, Xiao Qiu Shui, played by Cheng Yi, starts out as this totally clueless dude, and you watch him slowly become this total hero. It's awesome!

Honestly, the fight scenes are great, the story is twisty, and I just found myself really caring about what happened to everyone. If you're looking for something new to binge and you're still missing "The Untamed," give "The Journey of Legend" a shot. You might just find your new obsession. Seriously, check it out!

kinda similar ml dies and comes back after 12+ years.
although in TU the ml can stay back as he was brought back to life due to a ritual.
both ml set out to solve the reasons of their deaths and also just like in RW lot of people believe that the ml was the murderer.
also get to see sibling bonds although its a bit of a sad story for the siblings in TU
TU is a Chinese costume drama. but you should give it a try.
warning ?? it keeps getting sad every time you rewatch the drama.

The Untamed and Returned Master share themes of brotherhood, martial arts, and a complex fight between good and evil. Both series follow powerful protagonists who return after presumed death or disappearance, only to uncover conspiracies and rekindle relationships. Their journeys blend action, loyalty, and emotional depth, making them appealing to fans of wuxia with a touch of mystery and redemption.

reminded me of a mini gl version of the untamed but with less censorship

- both historical
- both fantasy
- characters/couple are similar (one is stern and introverted the other is playful and extroverted)

Sibling relationships:
The Untamed is the most beautiful masterpiece which has top-notch sibling relationships. The bond between the 3 Yummeng siblings is very strong and the love the 2 brothers and 1 sister have for each other is one of the main focuses of the drama. The same strong sibling relationship (2 brothers and 1 sister) is portrayed beautifully in Rebel the Thief who stole the people.

Both Legend of Yun Qian and The Untamed are historical Chinese dramas with a a bit of magical twist, and they also both focus on a queer couple (although it's mainly subtext in The Untamed).
