Abyss
Well.......storyline was good, it was cute and there was mystery and sad scenes. Park Bo Young, Han So Hee and Kwon Soo Hyun were amazing. There is no way to not cry when PBY is crying and her scene during funeral is one of the best in this drama. I love Seo In Guk's cameo, it was even better cause I love PBY&SIG as a duo so having them in one drama, even without playing scenes together for me was perfect. But I do not know if it is character's fault or script's but Ahn Hyo Seop in this drama did nothing for me. Do not get me wrong I do not say he is bad actor but I did not felt any chemistry between him and PBY - maybe because of age? So when the rest of the cast was 10/10, his character was 5/10 which of course lead to worse rating of this drama, still 7/10 is pretty high rating.
It is hard to say if I recommend this or not, you just need to check it out yourself and decide.

Under-rated show of how de leads triumphed over de hurdles on deir way
The plot for Abyss on de surface is so interesting. We have 2 characters dat are now in different bodies & trying 2 solve a murder, wid de help of a mysterious alien object (given by great and funny cameo appearances of Seo In Guk & Jung So Min ♥). For the side characters, Hee Jin (Han So Hee) started off interesting, but her character became shoved to the background near the end. Detective Park (Lee Shi Eon) was the true MVP. He was part of the comedic relief initially, but he was so much more and was a very stable part of the group.Great chemistry - a good script -nice whole ending- fine production....
//VERDICT // Abyss was an enjoyable watch. I liked dat de fantasy elements were solidly woven in2 de narrative throughout de drama, de mystery was good & de romance was cute. De bad guys got de punishment dey deserved & the characters got their closure they are due .All in all, it held my interest and made for a solid watch.

Had Potential But Too Many Convenient Coincidences
This had potential to be a really good and different type of kdrama. Sci-fi, romance, and mystery could've really worked together if there weren't too many convenient chances of characters just meeting up or things happening out of nowhere and without proper explanations/reasoning.There isn't much explanation of why the "aliens" left that device to ML at least not in the first 3 episodes . Don't they have rules in their own world? What if someone asks for their device when they get home? And why does the device works for other people too when it was originally given to the ML. I know I'm reaching out here but the writers should know that you can't just introduce sci-fi stuff without any proper explanations.
Too many convenient coincidences for the killer took me out of this story. The story idea is good, romance part is also good but these coincidences and plot armors were too much for me to keep watching it.

I think anything with Park Bo-young is something I do enjoy, she is a really good actor, even being petite with such a tall guy like Ahn Hyo-Seop, still thought they looked really good together! - I guess I did enjoy it near the end as you do in romance dramas, but I did remember getting confused with the story a little, and some of the characters!
But other than that I did enjoy watching it!

mid.
This show was mid, but the actors and acting were good. I think it just doesn't fit what i normally watch or and thing i would gravitate towards. I thought that this was just my opinion, but it seems everyone else thought kinda similar. I really love park bo young and for a few years she was my favorite actor because of her roles in Doom at your service and Strong woman, but this was kinda disappointing. I also think it's lame that the girl ended liking the guy bc he turned hot, but before she didn't gaf about him, just lame and shallow. Was this review helpful to you?

A HOT MESS WITH TOXIC MESSAGE!!!
I wasted 16 hours of my life, and sadly there's no Abyss that can give it back to me.What on Earth was this? I mean, I only watched this till the end, because I love Park Boyoung, but no wonder the writer didn't get any job after this mess. Without joking, this show had more plot holes than episodes.
I don't want to get into details, because writing a real review about this would take more time than what the writer spent on it.
The most important thing: THERE'S NO MEANING IN THIS DRAMA! The only message is that you can spend 20 YEARS with your so called "friend" who you called UGLY many times, but when he comes back as a HOT GUY, you forget who he was, and somehow you think you always loved him.
The BIGGEST BULLSHIT I've EVER seen!
Boyoung, Hyo Seop and the rest of the cast did everything they could, but this is just GARBAGE!
Without Boyoung, I would've dropped it after episode 3 or 4.
If you don't want to waste your time: DON'T WATCH IT! Only if you're crazy like me who want to watch everything from your favorite actors.😅

Really don't get the negative reviews about this show
I've been seeing too many bad reviews on "Abyss" honestly for me i enjoyed this show alot. Watched it 7 or 8 months ago and the storyline was interesting. Its about a marble that can revive people back from the dead. The murder, mystery everything just blended in fine. The actors did a good job here too. I was totally hooked till the last 10 mins of this show. The ending was bad and had alot of questions unanswered but honestly if i compare how much i enjoyed this show till episode 16 to the last 10 messy mins then it was actually worth it. I would ask you to gice this show a shot. The first 2 episodes maybe a bit unclear but you'll understand the whole plot from episode 3. I didn't want to make this review too long because I'm scared i might give major spoilers. Plus i don't want to ruin anyone's experience of this kdrama. Watch it for yourself and see how interesting it actually is.Was this review helpful to you?

A boring love story
"Abyss" basically tells the love story between Cha Min and Goo Se Yeon. They have known each other since they were little and their friendship lasted until adulthood. Cha Min has a crush on Se Yeon, but she only likes him as a friend. He works for her mother's company and Se Yeon is a prosecutor. One day, Cha Min is on the edge of a building and a strange thing happens, some "aliens" accidentally let him fall and he dies, so they bring him back using a glowing ball called "Abyss". The problem is that he comes back with a completely different appearance, becoming a handsome man.
Se Yeon is investigating a series of murders and unfortunately, she becomes the last victim. Cha Min is devastated by her death and brings her back to life using the abyss, she is then alive again, looking exactly like her least favorite person in the world: Lee Mi Do. The two join forces to find Se Yeon's killer and stop him from claiming more victims.
The romance between Cha Min and Se Yeon is too childish for me, I didn't really care about them and honestly, I never believed that Se Yeon liked Cha Min before his change, if she really liked him in these 20 years, wouldn't she have confessed already? Her excuse just didn't get me.
This is one of the things I really don't understand about this drama, the changes in appearance after being brought back to life. Cha Min makes some sense, thinking he was a good person and his soul looked beautiful, but how does it make sense that Se Yeon looks like a real person and even someone from her life? What would happen if Mi Do didn't have plastic surgery? Would two people with the same face exist at the same time, not being twins? And in the end, how is it that Se Yeon is living with Mi Do's face but using his real name? Ji Wook was arrested for his murder, how is that possible?
And the whole thing about abyss, we finished watching without really understanding what that thing is. How are so many people who died still alive? Cha Min and Se Yeon were brought back twice and there's also Hee Jin, Ji Wook, Oh Yeong Cheol and others... aren't there consequences to using this? It's almost become a normal thing to die and come back, it's so weird. You can say that Cha Min paid the price for disappearing for 3 years, but the right thing to do would be for him to come back to the way he was before the abyss, it would make more sense and what was that about the abyss disappearing because Se Yeon is pregnant?
The drama isn't bad, but the story is weak, as is the couple. There are some funny moments, which make it worth watching, but it's not something I would recommend.

Good for filler
If you are looking for something fluffy but also a little strange, do I have the drama for you!Story
The story line is semi interesting. I particularly the little jokes about Cha Min coming back to life in a more 'handsome' body BUT I think it is a bit of a stretch to say that Se Yun comes back in an 'average' looking body. Bo Young, girl, don't let these men write you like that! Anyways, the story was interesting enough. I did enjoy the ending but wished there was more of an explanation about his return. It was just 'oh his back' one day.
Acting/Cast
This is a well stacked group of actors. As I've said in previous reviews, I will not fault an actor for taking a job. They are merely able to control so much about the story and character. None of the characters sat badly with me but aside from the leads, everyone else was not that memorable.
Music
Also, no memorable.
Rewatch Value
I'd be willing to give this a rewatch down the line. A good refresher or gap filler in between other dramas.

MY ENTRY TO KDRAMAS
Year is 2018, i had never watched a korean thing before. on second thoughts i did watch one movie which was a big hit train to busan. my stupid self didnt even know who Gong Yoo was at that time. So while waiting for 2nd season of stranger things i stumbled upon this show called abyss. dont know who Park Bo Young and Ahn Yo Seop is at that time. plot seemed intersting and it was only the first two episodes that were available and i didnt even know that kdrama dont release all of it at once. so i start watching and even though visuals were great i didnt like the first two episodes. i forget about it after that but in the back of my mind i fell love with korea and i didnt even know at that time. eventually after year or so i watched whats wrong with my secretory because it was way to popular and thats it, it was how i fell in love with korean dramas. i did finish this drama way later but this was the first drama i watched. so far i have watched over 200 now in the span of all these years. Was this review helpful to you?
