I watched this back when it first came out, and thought it was a great serie. I recently rewatched it with my sister, and I definitely noticed some hidden parts and things I didn't catch at the first time. To be fair, there's a lot of talk about the main and second lead which is so understandable, but I'm happy she ended up with the final guy.What caught my eye the second time was the comedic side and humor, how fun it was to actually laugh at the scenes. Of course there were many other feelings, too, but nothing could beat the tiger print or the Lim family's daily routines. I recommend this as a first Kdrama if you're looking for one, since the story is good and the actors are quite likeable. Thumbs up!

Very overhyped drama
To the list of the dramas I've watched so far this one was the worst. I myself watched it due to its hype, but I definately NOT RECOMMEND to watch this as you'll regret watching it like I did. The episodes are so lengthy & has no content in it, would've been a normal watch once drama if its episodes duration would be just 20 mins.Reasons why it's OVERHYPED :
(1) Some people do relate to this drama as they've faced the same situations the main female lead faced which makes it their favorite drama despite being boring & dull.
(2) We can also say this a visual drama as a majority of audience likes it due to its beautiful cast.
(3) then their are those who really liked the concept of the drama and the plot which everyone did but still this drama isn't a worth watching drama until you just wanna glance at their visuals.
So, don't be fooled by the people who recommend you to watch this drama, they may have any of the reasons mentioned above.☝🏻
This drama having a romantic genre is definately not the romantic one you're looking for.

Great Romantic Comedy
This show does a great job with casting and acting! The story line is amazing (even though it differs from the Webtoon), and each episode will leave you waiting to see the next! I wish the story was more closely related to the webtoon regarding characters and events, but I understand that some things had to be changed for TV. This show is a great portrayal of the importance of positive self-esteem and good friendships. I have watched this entire season multiple times and will likely watch it again. Hilarious rom-com - a parody of its genre and everything the original webtoon failed to be
I wonder what people were thinking when they started the drama to comment later that this was predictable. Like literally what were you thinking this was? Misaeng? Stranger? Voice? Why would you even start a high school drama with the 18 years old "ugly" girl with makeup and 2 hot boys in love with her to begin with expecting the twists of say..Penthouse ? If you have watched enough k-dramas you would know that this drama was literally parody of many typical k-drama plots and has cliche plastered in it's poster. It was made to be laughed about and it was almost a satire of its own genre.It can be many things including predictable, but boring? oh no, that it isn't.
I didn't like the webtoon but I am here because of my girl Moon Ga Young because I love her acting! The direction was also really good and it was hilarious! They have diverted from the webtoon as much as possible so I was happy with the plot.
The sad parts seemed to be well potrayed possibly also because of MGY's great acting. I gotta say that the cast is seriously full of good looking people, including the friends, the parents, the siblings and so on. But they are also really cute. I liked all the side characters. I am a big fan of the actress who plays the older sister and the character she is portraying. I am hoping that unlike the webtoon, this will show positive values about beauty and character development.
The reason I like the main couple is that the director never failed to show they were even for a second. No misleading scenes despite sweet/sad/cute scenes with the second lead. Her feelings were clear, not like in Start Up where the FL kept staring/following around/was in love with HJP for 15 years and 9 episodes and the whole audience was extremely confused and some were so even until the penultimate episode.
The male lead here has a messed up childhood and adolescence, with his orphan life, bad father and death of the closest friend and loss of all friendships. Human interaction is not something he has had much. The main female lead had a pretty sad growing up too until recently with so much bullying and even her own mom making her feel worthless. Then one day he finds this one and only person who can make him smile and she finds this one and only person who can make her feel loved and beautiful for who she is. They are so emotionally intimate with each other even before the kiss that it was just right: the right amount of vulnerability, the right amount of awkwardness, the right amount of friendship and understanding. They are teens and they are perfectly fine both as themselves and as a couple.
It litterally gave us a sensible breakup for such a young couple with actual COMMUNICATION and the most realistic way in which people go back together (and COMMUNICATE about what went wrong before) and how some move on with life but their heart never does.
Their going back reminded me of some meetings in my own life that I should never have had and the meeting of Reply 1997 of the main leads after 6 years. I will never forget those iconic words in his thoughts when he saw her again:
"Because of you I avoided reunions and visit your parents the day before you would come. On holidays, I lie about having enteritis or eye infection. I've made all stupid excuses for past six years. But you're made all my efforts go powerless at once. Si-won Sung, you bitch. Everything went back to the first day of our high school back in 1996, to the day of out first kiss in 1997, to the day when I was crying like a madman in 1998. Everything went back to that winter. To be more accurate Yoon Jae Yoon from the 90s has just come back." This pretty much what happens if you just move on with your life but keep your heart parked at one single crossroad forever.
I love the drama much more than only the love line. I love the second lead and his whole family. I love all JK's siblings. I love all the side love stories, the friendships and the funny scenes which are actually funny and the acting of the cast and what else can I even say. I didn't even want to start this because the lost plot of the webtoon and the lack of any type of character development were not my cup of tea but I did, for MGY and I don't regret it one bit

Teenage Cliche done right
To address the obvious, it has many cliches !! But very few of them miss their target. With a good cast (esp the FL and the Other ML) they carried it flawlessly. The good thing was they kept the pace consistent so it never felt like a drag and a lot of emotional scenes (esp the guy getting rejected, I am not gonna name who...But it was the most heartbreaking rejection, even more than the one in Reply 1988).The series made me more emotional than usual maybe cos it reminded me of my first love, so my review might be a lil biased 😅.
Rest the story was good, I especially loved the insecurities of the teenagers that's depicted thro the drama. Also the second couple and their gendar role switch felt like a good change.

Stayed for the story of the second lead
While the story is not realistic (or maybe makeup can really make a person’s face beyond recognition?) it was likeable enough. It was interesting at the beginning, started to fall apart somewhere in the middle and by the end it was a mess.This may be the first kdrama I’ve watched thus far that the secondary characters outshone the main leads. I don’t know what it was that made me cringe at Moon Ga Young’s crying scenes, they were awkward and annoying to be honest. I adore Cha Eun Woo but he really needs to stay away from the cute but angry at the world characters or he will be typecasted. Thank goodness Hwang In Yeop saved this series for me, now he has a bright future in the acting world. Honorable mention in the acting department were the sister and her funny relationship with teacher. The dongsaengs’ in this series were also cute.
Watch if you’ve got nothing else to watch but I promise you there’s so many that’s well worth your 16 hours or so.

1000x better than the webtoon, 1 of the only 2 kdrama I think are good.
This adaption was 1000x better than the webtoon and actually had lovely messages to send. It delivered well on the messages of inner beauty, strength, and courage.There are weak moments in the first half, but the 2nd half was fantastically solid. The first half, Su Ho is very immature, but he grows up well, even if he did make a mistake later.
The romance was a hundred times better as well. It was so ridiculously sweet, I have cavities. But it wasn't cheesy in its execution and was done well. The wedding (side couple) was such a feel-good time lol.
The characters are much more well rounded and 3-dimensional, and the message of "True Beauty" (despite that not being the KR title) came out loud and clear.
I am so so so so ridiculously glad they didn't take the Seojun route for a 2nd season.
Kan Su Jin was 1000x better as well, as she was completely 2-dimensional in the webtoon, and her comeback made me cry, christ.
People often say in the reviews that this is cliche and typical, but to be frank, this is the only one that was executed well. I may not have seen 100 titles, but the popular kdrama I keep getting recommended are frankly just bad?? Cringy and full of bad acting. Uninteresting, or the main leads are dumb or whatever. Very superficial as well. The titles with high school settings have all been bad in my experience.
I do not agree that the main lead's acting is bad either. (What even makes them think that?!)
I do agree that the last 2 eps were a bit rushed, but considering what they had to work with, to be frank they did AMAZING in comparison.
People were saying Seo Jun stole the show, and while he /was/ amazing, and I love him for what he did in the end, but to be frank, he and Ju Gyeong's chemistry really simply isn't as good. That ending? Where they are curled up talking about their favourite comics? That's unreplaceable.
The last episodes made me cry a l o t. There are now only two kdrama I consider good. Secret Garden and this.

If you like cliche school dramas this is for you
I started watching it because i knew most of the main cast from other dramas but i didnt know it was gonna be so cliche. Two of the most popular boys have a crush the same girl, one has top grades one is a baddie then her best friend betrays her. Not saying its an entirely thing of course but if you just want something simple and light to watch the i recommend this dramas. But if you want something more interesing then you should find other dramas. I really liked the chemistry of Seojun and Jugyeong thats the only reason i watched it till ep15. I thought they were gonna be together in the end cause Suho had so many scenes already. But no they had to make Seojun heartbroken thats when i had to drop it. Seojun and Soojin was the most interesting characters to watch, they shouldve had more elaboration its such a wasteWas this review helpful to you?
It was so long before I finished watching the whole drama since I take it forgranted or I just put it on hold since my interest in the drama really shoot down, and I didn't really find the story interesting at all since it was different than the the webtoon. I did finish watching the drama, I did find it regretful since they really didn't follow the webtoon version.

The kdrama that started it all for me
True Beauty was the first K-drama I ever watched, and I couldn't have picked a better one! It had everything!!! comedy, romance, friendship, and just the right amount of drama. Ju-kyung’s journey of self-love was so relatable, and the love triangle? absolutely impossible to choose a side! Su-ho and Seo-jun both had me switching teams every episode. Even now, I get so nostalgic thinking about it. If you’re looking for a fun, heartwarming drama that keeps you hooked, this one’s a must-watch!!!!Was this review helpful to you?
OVERRATED
WARNING: 2ND LEAD SYNDROME is incredibly strongThe first episodes were really amazing and I always look forward every week to watch this drama but as it goes on, the plot became more and more disappointing especially for the second lead. The writer/s of this drama must hate Han Seojun because they really did him dirty. Some scenes are cringey but tolerable. It still gives me the romance and it also made me laugh every now and then.
For me, the hype this drama got is because of Cha Eunwoo, Moon Gayoung, and Hwang Inyeop and not because of the drama itself. If they were not the actors, I kinda doubt this will get hyped like this. I still recommend this drama especially if you're bored and you want to experience some butterflies in your stomach,.
