simple but interesting drama⋆。‧˚ʚ♡ɞ˚‧。⋆
My very first Zhao Lusi’s drama that I watched! I didn't think I would like this drama so much!? Every time I feel tired I rewatch this drama, it really saved my life!Zhao Lusi and Ding Yuxi's chemistry as Chen Qian Qian and Han Shuo are amazing!! They are my comfort couple, hope to see them working together again in another drama-`♡´-
This drama is actually very simple, there isn't too much conflict, it focuses more on romance interspersed with comedy and that really suits me.
There are only 24 episodes, for a Chinese costume drama it's very short, but from this drama I fell in love with Zhao Lusi and Ding Yuxi very deeply until now, they are the best!✨
This drama unexpectedly exploded and became famous both in China and internationally, as a loyal viewer who always rewatches this drama, I know this drama and all teams really deserves it.─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──

Not for everyone but 100% for me!
This drama is full on romantic comedy. While there are briefly, very briefly, some serious parts, for the most part, it’s romance + comedy.I see that there are some who don’t like the drama and that was me in the beginning! I only started because of ZLS but oh my my, I fell into the drama like she did 😂
I see why some might really dislike it - it’s silly, it’s ridiculous, there’s slapstick and seems so cheesy.
I loved it for all the above reasons plus the most important part is that it is intentional. The cheese, the silliness and the ridiculous scenes.
It is so intentional and so out there that you don’t feel like they are ‘trying too hard but failed’ because that is the essence of the drama. They poke fun at inequality, they make people fight in slow motion, they make men take on the role of women.
I recommend everyone to watch this with a light heart. Don’t over read it, don’t think too much of the underlying ‘inequality’ topic, don’t think of it as a drama that is ‘trying’ to change the world or highlight something. Maybe it is, maybe it did but while I watched the men get ridiculed for rolling up his pants, I ROFLed and while I watch the men in Xuanhu criticise their women and them revolting, I LMAOed.
Take it lightly, with a pinch of salt. Even the plot holes were fine for me, because I just enjoyed every part of it.
7 capture, 7 release. For haters, maybe try and the 7th time might be it for you.

Spoilers!I really liked nearly every aspect of the story, the characters are all interesting with sweet moments too. I especially liked the actors dynamics, and the cute little moments. The City owner was also one of my favourite parts, it refreshing to see a character like hers displayed in a nuanced and respectful way, instead of the mother in law is evil trope that happens so often. I may be biased but I also loved the Princess Royal, whos story was delicately handled and and relatable. The friendship Chen XianXian and Her servant was also very sweet! This whole drama could've been fantastic!
But Im afraid it was spoiled for me half way through.
I cannot accept how Han Shuo tired to r*pe her. That was so disgusting, and it was made worse by Bai Ji suggesting drugging her when he didn't go through with it. Come on, that was insanely messed up? And then they never address it and act like hes the good guy. Completely ruined two decent characters in one needless scene that didn't even add anything. If that wasn't included I would have given it a much higher score. I finished the series trying to forget what he did, and pretend it didn't happen, which I think a lot of other people did to. But even so it was always in the back of my head during their scenes together, from that point onward ,despite everything trying to convince us that Han Shuo wasn't bad, I always felt a edge of fear for Chen XianXian that I think wasn't intended.
I hear theres rumour of season 2 and I do plan on watching it. But yikes I cannot stop thinking about that moment.

Watch it and you'll rewatch it !
the drama about girl coming into the script that she wrote. the script is so absurd and she is so feminist. hahaha but seriously the drama is super funny, cute, sweet and comical.the ML and FL chemistry is so good and both of em are super sweet. and ML are super in love and willing to do anything for the FL.
so my advise is just go and watch it. even the script is good, it was sad at some point tooo. ending does feel a bit rush tho.
i would love to see if they have 2nd season where the meet again in real modern world.

Unique, funny and beautiful!
I love the originality of the idea! For this drama, it actually made sense why the world is not traditionally historical but fantasy historical because FL made it up to begin with. It was so fun to watch ML and FL fall in love with each other and the acting - especially of FL - was amazing! I needed this lighthearted and funny drama. But I can understand why some people might not like it. FL was childish quite a few times (especially in the beginning). But I loved her character development to become smarter and more serious. What bothers me a bit is that although it was really fun to watch, it was still a bit too long. But I think this is a general cdrama issue.

A fun fruit smoothie
The story of orange, banana and apple. It was hilarious how the story seemed to get more complicated the longer it went on.I have to say, everyone in this drama is gorgeous, I could stare at them for the whole day.
Especially Qian Qian's mother, she slayed the look.
Story
I watched ep 1-10 in one night, ep 11-17 fast forward button and I became best friends and ep 18-24 were back on track without any boring moments.
I appreciate the writers for giving us a happy ending because they could have broken our hearts.
The story was fun to watch even though second hand embarrassment hit me sometimes. The characters were smart most of the time and they communicated with each other. The misunderstandings were resolved quickly and the solutions to problems were creative.
The strongest point of the whole story were the characters, everyone was likeable. Qian Qian's mother was supportive, Han Shuo's parents were hilarious, the servants Zi Rui and Bai Ji were the highlight of some scenes.
Characters
Qian Qian, always up to no good. Her plans are messy but somehow they work. When she lies, she doesn't lie small. When she makes a mess, she makes it so nobody could fix it. And I liked that and I liked her character, all those things are what makes her so fun to follow.
Han Shuo, a super patient man. He first gave her his heart and then everything else. He started out as a cold character but soon became the most soft and cute one.
Their relationship was complicated but at the end of the day, they trusted and loved each other and that helped them through tough times.
ChuChu, super selfish and entitled princess. She could have had it all but she destroyed it herself. Her true colors showed when the first real problem came up.
Pei Heng, dude, she's just not into you. I don't know how many times Qian Qian told him she wants them to be friends but it was more than once. He gave some cool advice though.
Things I liked
ChuChu slowly becoming evil.
Su Mu and Yuan Yuan's romance, her wishes.
The orange, banana and apple, that's golden in itself.
The storytellers wanting to kill characters, they were really consistent with that.
Han Shuo and Qian Qian trying to kill each other for half of the drama.
Lin Qi and Qian Qian becoming frenemies.
Han Shuo's mom holding divorce papers in her sleeve.
Meng Guo's letters when he followed Han Shuo.
Han Shuo and Qian Qian struggling to kiss, they struggled more for that than for their whole relationship.
Things I didn't like
Surviving few slow episodes.
This is not really a super deep story and it doesn't present itself in that way so anyone who wants to watch it should have that in mind.
Leave the logic out of the door and enjoy the ride.

It was a fun escape from reality until the ending episode.
The good thing I like about this one was how the FL navigated the story of her characters while in her own book( Reminds me of "W 2016" Korean drama). I liked how the leads were funny and the way they lived every moment was entertaining, I especially liked the FL with her personality of being dumb and idiotic. I am so frustrated with that one ending comment, why does the second princess still get to be the city owner. Hasn't she shown enough violence and cruelty to be executed? If it weren't for the ML, the FL would have been dead earlier by the arrow she shot towards her. So many times she tried to kill her, but no karma for her. What kind of messed up story is this? We are told that what goes around comes around and that good deed is not lost but returned a thousand times. Was this review helpful to you?
My favorite drama BY FAR!
STORY-------------------------------This was recommended a lot, and was extremely popular, so I decided to watch it. NO REGRETS. At first I watched it mainly for Ding Yu Xi and Zhao Lu Si, but I loved the story too. I really liked how this drama flowed, and how interesting the plot was. It was very unique and I loved the perspective it put out. 10/10 for everything.
ACTING/CAST---------------------
Like I mentioned, I watched it at first mainly for the cast. I love the individual personalities of the characters, and the chemistry was great.
MUSIC--------------------------------
I almost memorized all the music lyrics! I really enjoyed it.
REWATCH VALUE-----------------
Would 1000000% rewatch! Such a good drama! I heard season 2 was coming soon, and I am glad they planned one.
OVERALL----------------------------
Story was amazing, acting/cast was great, I loved all the music, and I would definitely rewatch it. For those who have not seen this drama...I'm recommending it right now! I can't wait for season 2 and hope for the same quality story and cast!

Drafted to Die, Revised to Love
The Romance of Tiger and Rose opens with a delightfully chaotic premise. Aspiring screenwriter Chen Xiao Qian finally sells her script, only to have the male lead actor question her entire story. Determined to prove herself, she dives back into revisions. But fate, or perhaps karma from overworking, has other plans. After dozing off, she wakes up inside her own script as Third Princess Chen Qian Qian, a side character destined to be killed off in episode three by the male lead, Prince Han Shuo. Armed with insider knowledge of every plot twist, she makes one simple vow: survive at all costs and find her way home.My first impression? Everyone looked like they walked straight out of a porcelain doll factory. Han Shuo’s makeup in particular was so thick and immaculate that it almost took away from the realism. Not bad, just very… glazed donut chic. It took a while to get used to, but thankfully the story quickly pulls you in.
On the surface, the plot is light, basic, and unapologetically comedic. Enemies to lovers? Check. Political rivalry between Huayuan City and Xianhu City? Check. A romance that screams Romeo and Juliet with a C drama twist? Absolutely. Yet surprisingly, beneath all the fluff lies actual depth. What starts as a fluffy idol drama slowly reveals layers about loyalty, power, gender roles, and choice.
Let’s talk about Zhao Lusi because wow. Zhao Lusi absolutely carried this drama on her back and did it in style. Her Chen Qian Qian is hilariously entertaining from start to finish. The facial expressions? Elite. She can deliver an exaggerated comedic look without tipping into cringe territory. That balance is rare. I especially love that she is never afraid to look “ugly” for the sake of comedy. Minimal makeup, distorted expressions, high pitch squeals, she commits fully. Yet somehow, she still shines. It helps that she dubbed herself, and her voice fits Chen Qian Qian perfectly.
Chen Qian Qian as a character is such a breath of fresh air. After time traveling, she inserts modern logic into an ancient matriarchal society in the most chaotic way possible. She refuses to fold easily for Han Shuo, even trying to set her sister up with him at one point to save her own life. Watching her slowly, genuinely fall in love instead of instantly melting makes the payoff so much sweeter. She is charming in a way that sneaks up on you. Before you know it, you are fully seated and emotionally invested.
Now onto Han Shuo, played by Ding Yuxi. Cakey makeup aside, he delivered a solid performance. His expressions may not be perfect, but unless you are actively nitpicking, you will not be too distracted. Beneath the doll like exterior, his sharp features and composed demeanor give Han Shuo a quiet intensity. His martial arts skills and intelligence make him more than just a pretty face.
Han Shuo’s central dilemma, choosing between his city and his love, is where things get messy in a good and frustrating way. On one hand, his loyalty to Xianhu City is admirable. On the other, the constant back and forth about attacking Huayuan City started to feel repetitive. The green light, red light political tension was dragged out to make room for romance development, and sometimes it felt a little too obvious. Up until mid series, I genuinely wondered how this man could possibly secure a happy ending without becoming either a love fool or a cold tyrant.
And then he chose her. When Han Shuo declared that if Chen Qian Qian did not love him, he would keep trying, but if he hurt her mother or her city she would never forgive him, I felt that. The growth. The clarity. The emotional maturity. Sir, you dropped this: your crown.
Their relationship may be cliché, but it is cute enough to melt cynicism. Starting with poisoning, manipulation, and mutual scheming, their love burns with an almost hungry intensity once they finally surrender to it. Chen Qian Qian brings the comedy, Han Shuo brings the brooding seriousness, and together they radiate chaotic young love energy. After her confession, their dynamic softens into something almost puppy like. They cling to each other every chance they get, and even their sidekicks add to the adorable chaos.
One thing I genuinely appreciated was the portrayal of the Empress, Chen Qian Qian’s mother. In a city where women dominate and can practice polygamy, she still allows her daughters to choose their own husbands freely. No forced political marriages, no emotional blackmail. That freedom felt surprisingly refreshing for a royal setting.
The villains are, frankly, annoying. Their schemes, motives, and expressions sometimes make you want to yell at the screen. But what I appreciate is that the drama does not drag their evil masterplans for ten episodes straight. Most of their tricks fail quickly thanks to our leads or their loyal sidekicks. Ironically, the most successful manipulations are usually the ones Chen Qian Qian and Han Shuo pull on each other.
Comedy is where this drama truly shines. The absurdity is intentional and gloriously embraced. Normally, I am not a fan of overly ridiculous scenes that make a show feel stupid. But here, the absurd humor works. It makes you laugh, shake your head, and immediately replay the scene. There are too many hilarious moments to list individually, but trust me, your cheeks will hurt.
Thematically, the drama explores gender equality and women empowerment in a surprisingly thoughtful way. Huayuan City is matriarchal, Xianhu City patriarchal, yet by the end, both sides are nudged toward mutual respect. It is particularly amusing that even in male dominated Xianhu, husbands are still low key afraid of their wives. The conversations between Han Shuo and his father about women are oddly wholesome and funny.
Now, I will admit, the second half tosses logic out the window a few times. Certain developments feel inconsistent, and some scenes exist purely for emotional effect rather than narrative coherence. But because the drama never takes itself too seriously, it is easier to forgive. You are here for fun, romance, and chaotic energy, not a political dissertation.
The ending surprised me in a good way. For a story built on the concept of being trapped inside a script, it actually gives proper closure. We get ample reunion scenes in the modern world, allowing Chen Qian Qian and Han Shuo to meet again and acknowledge each other. Many dramas with similar premises leave you hanging, but this one lets you exhale. Even if some of the symbolic scenes leading up to it felt random, the emotional payoff was satisfying.
All in all, this drama is a genuinely fun ride. It is light, hilarious, absurd, occasionally illogical, yet still layered with depth and heart. It delivers its message about gender roles and empowerment without feeling preachy. Just remember one thing: do not overthink it. Sit back, relax, and let the chaos of Huayuan City sweep you off your feet.

Absolutely adorable funny and worth watching series
I stumbled upon this series - one of the trailers - when browsing YouTube. As I have watched Zhao LuSi's drama, I decided to search for it. Definitely not disappointed. This series is absolutely charming, adorable, extremely funny in many many scenes, touching and romantic. There are various comedy scenes, especially the assistance of the male and female leads..... always landing in funny moments. Zhao LuSi and Ding YuXi are extremely great actors and I enjoy watching their chemistry and funny antics together. Although it is my first time watching Ding YuXi, I will say - I love his acting. He did a very good job for a relatively and quite new actor. Hoping to watch more of his upcoming or past series. The other casts of the series are also very good and deserve a good pat on the shoulder for the great job and hard work they put in to make this series a success! The songs paired with it are also very nicely paired. Was this review helpful to you?
