One of the funny and light historical C-dramas!
To anyone who's hesitated of watching historical C-dramas, I gotchu! You're on the right page. Romance of tiger and rose was the 1st history C-drama that I've completed watching. Love every bit and pieces of this drama. Both ML and FL acted very well. Their assistances were also funny! 🤣 The plot and characters were clear and easy to carry for beginners like us. This series tells about two people from different cities that eventually fall into each other. They have contradict ways of thinking, making this drama hilarious! Light hearted romantic comedy with a unique story line
The first wuxia I watched last year and it brought back many fond memories of kungfu shows that I watched in my teens.Zhao Lu Si was cute and charming and had wonderful chemistry with her male lead. The story line was unique and entertaining. Seeing women in charge and men as subordinates made for many a good chuckle.
Do not watch this expecting an epic story with super realistic props and settings. This was a low budget drama which was well made.
This drama is perfect for those wanting a simple story that is entertaining with some romance and laughter.
Rewatched in April 2025 and it is even better than I remembered!!
No other drama has given me this beautiful combination of romance and comedy. Episode 16 when the couple take forever to say goodnight to each other much to the chagrin of their assistants is something I have not seen to this day and no other drama has made me feel so warm, fuzzy and funny at the same time like this scene does.
So while this drama’s wigs, make up and costumes are a bit lacking, it is easily overlooked when it delivers so much more in return with the couple’s chemistry and unique story.

I loved this, this was my first like historical drama. Not sure how I came across it! But I'm really glad I did. What I found the most interesting and like really smart, is how they created the different sides, like how Chen QianQian, like woke up like and all the workers were men. And then the Male Lead, Han Shou who like was born in a culture where all the workers were women! I just thought that was soo smart, and I love the storyline of it as well.
I'd like to admit. At first glance, I didn't think Ding Yuxi, who played Han Shou was that good looking, but I think the more you watch him and his acting, he does end up being like really good looking.
I love the character Chen QianQian, and how like everyone just thought she changed soo much since it was literally her writing her own character, and how like at the end she changed and grew into what she was writing. I actually loved this show because of all the historical outfits as well! It was one of the reasons why I still love watching historical dramas, just because of the outfits!
Definitely worth a watch! It's a really cute romance-comedy show! And the storyline was really good. Wonder if they'll make a sequel to this, but if not I still really enjoyed this.

Cute, satisfying, HILARIOUS historical romcom with a quirky cast!
This drama was funny and refreshing - a lovely drama for me to get back into the scene after not watching Asian dramas for a while. It wasn't perfect, but it was the perfect historical romantic comedy - with a happy ending - for me to watch.PROS
❀ Good acting from male and female leads | Especially the male lead... shEESh, his cheekbones. I enjoyed both the actors and the female lead's facial expressions are super cute and add to the comedic factor in the show. The male lead actor is great at acting cutesy as well while balancing a somewhat darker side.
❀ Goes against the grain of ancient historical settings | In QQ's script, the Huayuan city is a role reversal of ancient China where a matriarchal society exists. (There's this one scene where a woman is like, "Wow, look at how you can see that young man's ankles in public - shameless!!") This absolutely cracks me up and really added to comedic value.
❀ Super cute romance | It's a great balance between the sweet male lead, HS, and the plotting female lead, QQ. They had so many wonderful moments, and the actors did a great job.
❀ I loved the commentary about gender equality | QQ originally writes the script to be pro-female, but ends up discriminating against guys... being in her script, she recognizes that there is no equality when either gender lords over the other. Love the lessons learned!
❀ The bromances were wonderful omg | The servants of QQ and HS... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them. Their acting and dialogue were top notch and never failed to make me smile and laugh. They were definitely A+++ supporting characters - couldn't have asked for better sidekicks.
❀ Happy ending!! A little too short for my liking, hehe. They wrapped up the "fell into a script" plot tightly (so tight you can't ask questions, but we don't question drama plots right). Soundtrack was nice too (especially the intro music). This was also the perfect length for me at 24 episodes, which I appreciate because it's hard for me to get through 50+ ep dramas.
CONS
✕ The self-sacrificing look is not a great one... | Not gonna lie, QQ was annoying at times. She had good motive for her actions, but it was hard for me to empathize. Also I mentioned before the actress's depiction was super cute, but it got a lil stifling in some scenes. Anyway, I think this con is a reflection of the drama's need to have a plot than anything else.
✕ Dialogue wasn't perfect | There were some scenes, especially in the beginning, where I questioned the logic and motives of characters. It wasn't bad, per se, but surprising to see in a drama with otherwise okay writing. The lesson I learned, lol, was not to take anything too seriously.
✕ Misunderstanding level: 5/10 | I thought this was exacerbated by lazy script-writing but yeah, prep yourself for unnecessary misunderstandings for a couple of episodes in this drama.
OVERALL
I can see why this series is hyped, and I'm fully on board! Like I said, this wasn't perfect by all means, but it WAS a perfect historical romcom with a lovely cast and satisfying ending. Perfect for my tastes!
(Note: My rewatch value is set to 5.0 always as a default as I'm not the type to rewatch dramas EVER. Thus, I do not take it into account when calculating overall score.)

i liked it
Another one that I really liked but it was forgetable. Loved the story and acting. Here's what I wrote at the time:Fantastic. Beautiful actors, great acting. Ngl, the plot was all over the place and can be confusing at times, but just trust the process and the plot always comes together seamlessly.
Very funny, great characters and this is literally the ONLY Chinese drama that I've watched where the parents of the main characters who are the "king/queen" or in this case, the "city master" aren't evil scheming monsters. I actually LOVED both parents of the main leads. And I'll never forget my fave duo Bai Bai and Rui Rui.
It does get boring and draggy in some parts but overall drama is an 8.5/10 but the ending is 9.5/10. Great dama, highly recommend.

The Plot of This Drama is Wrapped Up Very Well
This drama tells the story of a screenwriter who enters a world that she created herself. This drama is the first drama I have watched with this kind of plot. In my opinion, this drama is quite satisfying. The story begins with Chen Xiao Qian who is writing a script. After that, she reports the results to the actor. However, based on that meeting, she needs to make revisions. When she gets home, she immediately works on the revisions. Time passes, without realizing it she falls asleep during the revision process. When she wakes up from her sleep, she realizes that she is currently in the world she wrote. Her identity has now changed to Chen Qian Qian, the third princess.
She thought of various ways to return to her original world. However, several ways she had tried failed. She began to think whether it was possible for her to return home after the story in this world ended. That prompted her to stay for a while, because this opportunity was a good chance to understand the best plot and script.
This drama has a happy ending. This drama presents various interesting scenes. There are even some plot twists that made me wonder. Anyway, this drama is very satisfying for my first experience watching a drama with a plot like this.

Toxic Romance
Okay I was 14 when I watched this drama and I absolutely fell in love with it because of Zhao Lusi being my favorite actress and also because Ding Yuxi was ( and still is ) so so so very handsome. The comedy in this drama was actually good enough for me, I personally feel like it was not overdone. Lusi’s comedic scenes are so funny because she was portraying a modern girl trying to change the natural course of events. rrwNow, I love the actors and actresses in this drama but I have to say, I may have rewatched this numerous times before but now as an adult I might not do so anymore. This is due to the romance portrayed in this drama. I loved the sweet moments, but as an adult I’m seeing how toxic the bad moments were because Qianqian keeps leading Han Shuo on and then turns around and pushes him away. There is no valid reason, no one can tell me “oh but it’s because she wanted to return back home and she thought her way back was for things to go according to the scrip(“ . She may have created characters, but they so happen to feel emotions too. So for her to be tossing Han Shuo’s heart around like that pissed me off as an adult because it’s not cute, it’s rather toxic and unhealthy. If someone loved me today and then pushed me away tmrw, I would completely lose it. But it’s drama anyway, I just hope you girls don’t fantasize about this kind of love because it’s absolutely toxic. Qianqians character was a bit immature but towards the end, I actually began to like her. But I loved her comedic scenes though ! That’s something I would watch over and over , just NOT the whole drama again lol .

I had my doubts but this completely won me over!!
I came here after watching "Who Rules the World" and I originally just needed to put something on during my daily 30 min treadmill walks after dinner lol so I casually started this drama.I've always been a Lusi fan and haven't seen anything with Ding Yuxi until this drama. Lusi is as cute as a button in this and wasn't over the top, which is what I've always really loved about her. I also now have a major crush on Ding Yuxi - he's not extremely handsome in the traditional sense but he was sooo attractive in his role and I love his small reactions and the way he could literally speak with his eyes. And that smirk? Ok, I'm going to stop lol.
You definitely won't regret watching this one!! I'll admit I had my doubts because of some plot holes in the beginning but the way that the show was executed, their hilarious antics, and the way that the story unfolded was done really well. The cast was also amazing - both FL and ML, as well as the supporting cast...great acting from all of them and surprisingly, NO annoying characters?! Well, maybe besides Chuchu towards the end, but she got what she deserved, so it's all good.
I didn't expect it, but this dramas has become one of my favorites and has won my heart. The ending was really well done and left me wanting more to this cute couple! You know a drama or movie is really well done when you can't stop thinking about it after you're done watching - this is exactly how I feel right now. I have major withdrawals and it really makes me want to watch from episode 1 again (this almost never happens to me!). Definitely don't miss out on this one! Highly recommend and I'll definitely be rewatching this in the near future.

Very close to a perfect
Plot was interesting..the story moves with consistent paces and there were comparatively very less low energy movements... The script writing was in my opinion the very core of this show ..there were punches every now and then that kept the comedy and light heartedness intact.. which got a nice justify ce through actor talent ,spontaneity and chemistry on screen ... Zhou Lusi and Ryan ding were amazing together..Ending was little confusing or can say weird yet happy ... I guess this was one of those ending where the writer leaves loops open for the viewers to their own understanding about the entire thing ...
On the whole it was delightful.. loved watching it ...might be watching it again in future

One of THE Best C-Dramas!!
I have never written a review for any TV show before but after watching this show I am compelled to! This is one of The best C-dramas I have seen to date, good story, acting & the comic scenes are really funny. Also this is one of the shortest c-drams with just 24 ep vs 40+ plus thats the norm. Well worth watching again. Great job done specially by Ding Yu Xi!I have never written a review for any TV show before but after watching this show I am compelled to! So campy but so fun
I legit laughed out loud so many times watching this. It's a really hilarious drama with great acting. It's very campy but very fun and very re-watchable. The romance was surprisingly cute! Zhao Lusi continues to be amazing in everything she's in. I did feel that the second half of the show lost a bit of the magic though because of the plot stuff... and the whole 'it was all just a dream' gimmick left me kind of disappointed. I also wish we saw a bit more of what their modern day ending was like. Was this review helpful to you?
