Worth your time! Watch it for the acting, special effects and the background score!!

The sets, the visual effects, the acting are stunning! Each and every cast member delivers their respective emotions beautifully - the leads, Rong Hao, Xun Feng, Dan Yin, Jie Li, Chang Heng, Shang Que - every single one of them have carved their own space in the story. Despite the cutesy character of the FL, the she maturely delivers her emotions. And do not let this cutesy act of the FL deceive you - she is fierce with an independent thought process. Same with the ML - even though he is been shown as an immortal bad-boy, his personality is not cringy. One word for the ML - REGAL - makes sense since he is THE Supreme Being in all three realms. Big congrats to Wang He Di and Yu Shuxin for their brilliant performances in this drama. They have proved themselves beyond any doubt. And congrats to the entire cast and crew for putting up such a incredible story. Although it vastly differs from the novel story, it still does it justice. One of the best (sort of) series adaptaions I have seen of any xianxia novels! Absolutely recommended!

I am grateful! It doesn't just follow the trope of xianxia drama.

After completing all episode...
I am so happy and satisfied with the ending! My hopes are answered in the two last episodes! All bad thoughts about the ending of this drama are melt away.

1# Why the love between fairy and devil matters? Yes, it matters a lot for the peace of the realm in the end. It gives warmth to our heart too, that this story is not a stupid romance. Self-less love is triumph here!

2# What love can do for "mankind" (the moon tribe, fairy, immortal being, and mortal being) is underexplored. No, no, no! It is very well explored in the end! Even though the sequence of events in the last episodes are a bit too fast (like without warning, the Moon tribe suddenly join troops), it is very okay. We still can follow the story.

3# The peace, the love, the unity, and the magic force. These should be the main ingredients to fight evil, right? Yes!

4# It is okay to tell about love among immortals, but it is funny to see the main purpose of their love is just to find the lost one! Finally, it is not! This drama teaches a lot about what love can do. Actually, what self-less love can do!

Watch this drama, people! Don't stop half way!

***

My review after watching until episode 32:

My hope is high when people praise the art department of this fantasy drama. I observe it well; the design of places, clothes, and the world of fairy, immortal being, devil, and mortal human are spectacular. The acting and music are good too. So, I won't talk about those things or it would be redundant. I will focus on the story.

1# Lack of background context: Why did the conflict happen from the first place?
What I like about the story is a different starting point from other xianxia dramas. The male lead (ML) is portrayed as the defeated villain. The way he met the female lead (FL) is so unexpected. So, it brought some fresh introduction that really attract my curiosity. I like how they brought also another issue to enjoy, a kind of social clash between fairy and moon tribe. The fairy is always depicted as "the hypocrites" by the moon tribe. However, something is missing. Until episode 32, it is never be explained why the hatred is so deep. What is the hypocrisy they talked about several times? A view to the past is limited to the personal family story of the ML, about his father and their sacrifice, and the conflict is already there. What triggers it? It is really a big hole for the story with many good potentials. It makes the story lack meaning, why the love between fairy and devil matters?

2# The most powerful to the weakest: Backward character development of Moon Supreme
I fall in love to the characterization of Dongfang Qingcang, Moon Supreme, who is introduced as the biggest villain in the beginning. He is cold, cool, ruthless, and fearsome. To some extents, he is admirable too, the day we learn his background story and how he choose to be humane with emotion. I think, the return of emotion (especially love) should add more strength to him. But unfortunately, in contrary, it become his Achilles heels. He becomes useless. It is very disappointing. He lost his brain to solve forthcoming challenges. I mean, how come they do battle by only relying on brute magic force? Is there no room for peace talk and diplomacy? Or at least, smart strategies and tactics to win the war?

I really want to see the Moon Supreme that turn to be a better person. They can portray him to be more benevolent and considerate, to be more open minded and have broad perspective to face his enemy, and gravitate to peace and the well-being of his people. In reality, that is the use of emotion, right? What is the use of love in him? Love has so many kinds. Eros (romance, passionate love), philia (love of friends), storge (love of parents for children), agape (love of mankind). Is his love tree limited only to Orchid, when we know he is a great person to his tribe and feared by his enemy? The meaning of love here is so shallow. What love can do for "mankind" (the moon tribe, fairy, immortal being, and mortal being) is underexplored.

3# Peace are restored so easily like it doesn't important.
The series has passed its climax, I think. It is in episode 31 where the war finally broke again, and ended by the sacrifice of Orchid. She released a power that can revive those who died in the battle and the 100.000 army of demon. It is later stated that demon and immortal being achieved a ceasefire for 100 years. This episode is so touching, but the impact is weak. The moment of Orchid released her power should reveal the true identity of Orchid as a goddess (if not, why those people kneel to her?) It should be a big good news for everybody in the realm. What we don't know is how they perceive this event and its meaning for them. This realization should be the bridge that explains the achieved peace.

I think, Dongfang Qingcang shouldn't fainted so early and easily after Orchid died. Love should produce perseverance in a person, not mental break down (as depicted in episode 32, ML turns out to be crazy). With his more benevolent and stronger heart now, he might have come back to his tribe with the last power he has, endure his own suffering, and offer peace to his enemy, reminding them Orchid's sacrifice. After that, he finally "take some rest", continuing his desire for Orchid in the dream realm. This story would be very different indeed! The 100 years peace would be his achievement and we would love him more, and understand why he indulged himself in the dream about Orchid. He is a tragic loving person! When this conflict beautifully ends, it is logical for the last arc of the story, to fight the greatest final enemy, Tai Sui. Dongfang Qingcang and friends has full power now. The peace, the love, the unity, and the magic force. These should be the main ingredients to fight evil, right?

4# The trap of xianxia love story trope
As an international viewer, it is easy to be bewildered by the worldbuilding of Chinese fantasy story. It is okay with rebirth and karma things. It is relatable because more or less it also exists in other cultures. The philosophy behind it is understandable. It is always about the rivalry of good and evil, white and black, fairy/ god-goddess/ immortal being and demon. However, we know from many series, that the lord of immortal being can be vile. God and goddess can be cunning and awful. If that possibility is exist, the similar possibility can be happen to the demon tribe, too. The tribe that is always depicted by black trait (evil, ugly, hideous, etc), actually have heart too and can be compassionate. This grey area is fantastic to be explored. Love between Fairy and Evil is promising that exploration, through a devil as the main character.

However, I don't agree with the story's over indulgence in romance in later episodes and forget the main premise, love should flourish people. It has a great metaphor already: the Love Tree of Dongfang Qingcang. In the beginning, it is deserted in a winter like place. Later, Orchid came and bring it to life. The bare tree finally sprouts and the spring is coming. Dongfang Qingcang sat below the tree and enjoyed flowers in that tree. It is a very satisfying moment! Unfortunately, after that beautiful depiction, the story change 180 degree to "a journey to find lost love one", "a quest to revive a died person". It happens in so many xianxia drama (e.g. Three Miles of Peach Blossom, Eternal Love of Dream, The Blue Whisper, etc). Come on! If you know that a person can always be born again, what is the point of grief, madness, sadness, depression, and sorrow of losing the love one? If it is to give a second chance, in this fantasy world, a person can reborn thousand times and live thousand years. They are immortal! Life is just a play for immortals. Why do they need to take it seriously? It is okay to tell about love among immortals, but it is funny to see the main purpose of their love is just to find the lost one, watch the hard work to revive him/her again, and to live forever happily ever after. For a mortal human, the most frightening thing for a lover is the loss of a loved one. Because, they only live once. But, for immortals love should be imagined differently as the most frightening thing for them should be different too.

So far, I never know any xianxia drama that goes beyond this trope. I do hope Love between Fairy and Devil would be the one. We still have four last episodes to go. Lets see!

It got me hooked from the get go with the whole devil gods fantasy mix . Dylan fully embodied the stereotypical cold lords in contrast to the female lead's innocence . The play between the devil's quick temper and the child like behaviour added a unique flavour to their interactions.
The side characters made for an even sweet topping with their own sparks .
The team went above and beyond in designing the costumes each depicting the characters personality allowing for diversity and portrayal of culture. And speaking of culture ,the festivals ,greetings and the even the houses blended seamlessly giving the characters actions meaning even shaping their humour.
I would say the only issue was the inconsistent character of the male lead in the later episodes which made the story a bit flat. Nonetheless its worth watching and would strongly recommend it to new fans as a gate way to xinxia dramas

beautiful plot and more beautiful settings

I love the casts especially dylan wang as the devil dong fang qing chang.

Scenery and settings of the story are breathtaking. Personally, I think the Arbiter Hall is the best designed as the setting for grooming love between the fairy and devil. m

the costumes are quity pretty too and distinctive when xiao lan hua is in the moon tribes.

I think the only cons is that I wish to see the supporting role more entertaining. The main leads did a good job though.

its only 16 episodes out of 36 in iqiyi now! wish i could read the novel!

edit: I just finished 36 episodes in this drama. damn I love Dong Fang Qing Chang character so much. Dylan Wang acts really good as him. Xiao Lan Hua character is lovely, but Esther performance is just alright as her. Somehow, there are scenes of her that is quite cringy and not as powerful. Aside from that, I have to give applause to actors that play Rong Hao and Chi Di. Their facial expressions and the way they carries themselves is top notch for the characters they play.

cons is probably ending is too abrupt! and too many rebirth and deaths of the lead roles hahha. it was really entertaining drama, love the plots and twists :)

So - So

The title saids it, it’s okay, so so. Don’t know what the hype is about. I watched Eternal Love, Love and Redemption, Immortal Samara, Ashes of Love, they are way more interesting in story plot and character development. Seems like this is an easy pass for teenager audience. It doesn’t make you cry, just light humor here and there. CG and music is good but then what? Have to drop at episode 11. Pretty cliche to me that a cold emotionless man pretending he doesnt care and then. fell in love with a bubbly girl character. And they both pretend they are aren’t falling for each other…typical. Acting is alright, not a fan of calling good acting just because you can make funny faces or crying out loud like a big bawling baby as top tier acting skills.

A Beautiful Shell, Hollow Within

Honestly, Love Between Fairy and Devil is gorgeous to look at, but the story drives me crazy. The female lead is unbearably naïve—she doesn’t think, doesn’t grow, and feels like she was written just to be “cute.” If they wanted her that innocent, they should’ve given her the vibe of a ten‑year‑old fairy, not an immortal who’s supposed to carry weight in the plot.

The side characters? Their brains are basically props. They’re introduced with potential but never used meaningfully. And don’t get me started on the power imbalance—some characters are so overpowered it kills any suspense.

The whole show is painted in black and white: good vs evil, love vs hate. There are no grey areas, no layered backstories, no foreshadowed betrayals to keep us guessing. Even the kiss‑based power swap feels like a cheap gimmick instead of a creative fantasy mechanic.

Yes, it’s pretty. Yes, the romance has its moments. But if you’re looking for depth, complexity, or characters who feel alive, this drama just doesn’t deliver. It’s a hollow spectacle—beautiful on the outside, frustrating on the inside.

Couldn’t finish it

I enjoy slow development of romance as that’s more realistic. However, not sure how people can rate this so high.

ML did great and I seen other of his series and I think he did the best he could in this series. FL was annoying with her child-like acting. The child-like pouting and voice was over the top. It got more and more annoying each episode to a point where she looks like a dump and ignorant. I just don’t understand how people can think it’s cute. Some part where it’s supposed to be funny and cute, instead you’re thinking is the girl really that stupid. Storyline wasn’t great but wasn’t bad. I think pushing the child-like FL lasted too long for me.

Music was good. Overall, I think it could be a better series if I didn’t get so annoyed with FL acting. Please directors, stop with the overacting of child-like characters.

Watched most of the episodes but could not bring myself to finish just yet

It started out kind of too cutesy for me and thought it would be like Ashes of Love but thankfully it was not that.

I was laughing aloud multiple times first several episodes. Some of the best comedy anywhere in C-drama. Script is top notch. And the acting by Dylan and Esther was done with great chemistry and skill.

It's one of the few dramas where the ML as bad guy truly makes you understand the vastness of his power in the first 2 episodes. I don't think any other fantasy c-drama has shown this level of depth for a character that starts out bad. Most of them tend to be too cutesy or just full of angst all the time.

Esther was great in this role. I also watched her in Moonlight and enjoyed her there as well. I do not have any problems with her voice. She plays cute girl roles and this fit her.

Dylan was really good as the ML. I watched him in The Rational Life and that is such a great show as well. Here, he plays someone without emotions in the beginning and slowly transforms. I find him more interesting in the first 1/2 than the 2nd half. But then again, I have not finished it.

There are multiple dramas that I watched while they were ongoing that I stopped towards the 2/3. Immortal Samsara, Love like Galaxy, and this show. I think after a while, we viewers just get tired of watching the same type of shows. I probably will finish this along with the other 2 one day. In the meantime, I watched and finished some other shows.

Lovely Drama

I have to admit I started watching this drama because the episodes of "Immortal Samsara" are slowing being translated into English and I needed another drama to fill in. At first I was not impressed with the the way the story line was going and I found the FL's voice a bit irritating. I decided to keep on watching and I am so happy I did. FL's voice grew on me and the storyline is now so interesting and enjoyable. The ML, Dylan Wang is terrific. I am not a familiar with any of the actors except Xu Hai Qiao who also acted in "Dream of Splendor", which I loved. He plays an excellent villain. I cannot wait to watch episode 11 and see what else transpires. By the way, all the main actors are so good looking and the scenery and costumes terrific. I would definetly recommend watching this drama. Just remember, it takes a few episodes for it to be enjoyable.

Disappointed in the Drama

I was looking forward to watching this drama only to be disappointed. The main Female Actress Ruins the drama for me. This is my second attempt to watch this drama because Yu Shu Xin’s voice is irritating and quite annoying. She seems to perform the same childish performance in her other roles and films. Every time she opens her mouth, it makes me cringe. I’m curious how she’s able to land lead roles. Li Yi Tong would have been a better fairy because she can portray an annoying person without being childish. I feel sorry for Dylan that he has to act with an ungroomed and untrained actress. It doesn’t seem like he’s putting much effort into this drama as with the other dramas he’s done. Can’t blame him. Although the drama had a weak start the storyline and script got better and more interesting after episode 15 but it still could use some improvements. The special effects were ok. I’m not sure if I’ll have the patience to finish this drama.

Magical Immortal Idiot Tour

***This is my honest opinion after watching the first six episodes. You can disagree, but you can't impose a totalitarian ban on my thoughts and freedom of expression. I am not a pop idol fan, and I approach my reviews not as any kind of stan, but as a person with training and experience in film and television. There is no cause for animosity towards me just because I uphold a certain standard for what I choose to watch. You can't stand Esther Yu being critiqued by me, then don't read my review. Simple.***

I knew I was going to hate this as soon as I heard Esther Yu's awful, whiney, cutesy voice as narrator. She's an entertainer, not an actress. I don't know what she trained as, maybe she is a pop idol and that's why she gets FL roles, but with that voice, that lack of acting ability, and her usual cutesy stupidity she brings to every single role, here's another drama for her to render completely unwatchable.

I've said this so many times, and I will continue to say it, innocence and stupidity are not the same thing. You can be a young woman who is naive and innocent, and still not need to be saved every few minutes, or constantly trip over yourself to make you more "relatable" by making you appear quirky. There is nothing endearing about behaving like a toddler, and anyone who finds that kind of Mary Sue behaviour endearing needs to grow up.

In this drama, she finds herself swapping bodies with Dylan Wang the ML, intermittently. All she really does to become the ML, is put her head down, and stop smiling. That's all she has the acting ability for, as she isn't a real actress. She doesn't even look like a FL, as she looks very ordinary, like Zhao Lu Si, another overrated actress, except Zhao can actually act if she is put in a comedy, but not in a drama.

I'm sorry to be hard on any FL, but I can't stand the Mary Sue trend. I don't expect women to act more like men, all I ask is that they act like adult women, that's all. I don't understand what is so good about watching an adult woman behave like a toddler.

The ML is forced to mimic the stupidity of the FL when he switches bodies with her, which he does quite well. The fact that our FL is being acted in the body and voice of the ML is a decided improvement over the FL being herself. Dylan Wang seems to enjoy this chance to be both the colourful anti-hero, and the out of body FL.

The impressive acting is coming by way of newcomer Zhang Ling He, and Xu Hai Qiao. Zhang Ling He impressed me when I saw him in, "Maiden Holmes". Xu Hai Qiao is an actor with a doughball face, not unlike Esther Yu's own. He is an average looking guy, but with talent! Unlike this FL, he stands out because he can actually act, so it doesn't matter that he may not look like a male model like many of the male cast in this drama. What I guess I am getting at here, is I am not about to lower my standards when it comes to the level of acting I expect from a Chinese drama. I think that would be a disservice, and I want to believe that just because casting pop idols as actors is trendy and popular, doesn't mean that they should be allowed to take the place of real actors who have trained to become actors. That doesn't mean that no pop idols can act, but a lot of them can't, like Ms. Yu.

Anyway, after forcing myself to watch 6 episodes of this, trying to skip over anytime Esther Yu appears or opens her mouth, I can conclude that this is another Xanxia that is going to drive me absolutely crazy because of the clichès. The fairies are feminine in the worst possible way (both childish and bullying each other, gossiping, doing all those stereotypical female things, but always being really stupid at the same time). The males are stoic and somewhat boring, though, ZLH and XHQ created characters that were beginning to interest me, and I would have wanted to watch more, had the FL been even slightly tollerable, but she isn't. Dylan Wang's character, though he is supposed to be a demon, and therefore the most colourful of all the characters, I found him to be missing any real personality so far, well, except for when he is playing the FL, but then he has to play her as annoying and dumb as she is. It's possible that his character becomes more complex and interesting later in the drama, but I can't really tolerate any more of the FL than I've already forced myself to watch.

Edit: Dylan Wang just keeps getting better and better! He has the best comedic facial expressions here. He's stopped being stoic and it is so pleasant to see a ML that is so expressive, even when it is played for laughs. Dylan Wang needs more colourful character roles, less typical stoic ML roles.
