This drama and DFQC ruined me!!! (In the Best Possible Way)

This one sits in a completely different tier of my heart. Do listen to the raving reviews and go watch it!!! When I say favorite of all time, I mean the kind that rearranges your taste in drama, spoils you for other male leads, and makes every future romance feel a little under-seasoned. I've rewatched this countless times and still laugh, swoon, melt and cry every single time!!

What makes it hit so hard is how deeply, intentionally, painfully well-crafted the character arcs are—especially Dong Fang Qing Cang (DFQC). He isn’t just a cold, cruel, untouchable, extremely powerful and sexy ML… he’s the blueprint!!

The writing gives him space to be terrifying, then curious, then conflicted, then undone, then devoted. You feel the armor crack one silent stare at a time. His evolution isn’t rushed or cheesy—it's earned, layered, and honestly one of the best emotional slow burns I’ve ever seen in any fantasy romance.

And Xiao Lan Hua (XLH)—she’s not just the cute, naïve fairy she starts out as. Her arc is a full gradient of growth. She becomes someone with depth, courage, and agency… but she never loses her essence. What I adore is that both leads grow, but neither eclipses the other. It’s a partnership built through trial, devotion, and choices that cost them something real.
Their relationship?
Ugh. The way they love each other is what makes this show unforgettable.
There’s tenderness, there’s pain, there’s sacrifice that feels mythic yet intimate. You watch them become each other’s undoing and salvation in equal measure. It’s epic without being melodramatic, romantic without being fluffy, and tragic without being hollow.
The world-building, the aesthetics, the OST—every piece works in service of that emotional core. But what stays with you long after is how DFQC and XLH change each other. How love becomes something that transforms, not consumes.
If you want a fantasy romance with genuine depth, character arcs that punch you in the chest, and a love story that leave you yearning endlessly and completely ruins you this is the one.
No contest. No hesitation. This is the standard. There's a reason it's often voted and mentioned as the next Xian xia drama even by the end of 2025!!

Can't recommend enough!!

THIS IS SO GOOD OMG it's such a classic I can't wait to forget everything so I can rewatch it!!

1. Story (mild spoilers ahead)
interesting story line and it was paced almost perfectly, there was a slight lag, for me personally as I didn't care for the screentime awarded to CH but other than I loved it. Also would have loved a better conclusion for the cloud guy, I thought we were gearing up to him being ousted but its okay.
It has the typical xia ending of last 5 mins but the special made up for it.

2. Acting/Cast
god such great acting, wow. Every single person acted their hearts out in every single scene, even the minor ones. The support roles were phenomenal but the leads? they acted their asses off I am so impressed. FL's voice did take a bit to get used to but given her acting range showcased I decided to bear with it and good thing I did.

3. Music
I don't put much thought to music and ost so I will just say it is nice and not off-putting at all.

4. Rewatch Value
High, very high indeed. I will definitely be back.

One of the best romance xanxia

Initially very reluctant because of Esther Yu’s voice in the beginning, I gave it a chance because of the very high reviews… and oh my… such a rewarding drama. Both leads are perfectly cast and their chemistry is outstanding. Special mention to Wang Dylan … and also Esther Yu who perfectly embody their characters and evolution. the story is extremely addictive past ep. 8 when it all really starts in my opinion
And it is supported by one of the best OST
Very difficult to let go and find another one after this one

Tediously over long with too many resuscitations & escapes

the kisses & Dylan Wang were swoon worthy but this drama is tediously over long. HOW many times should a character die & miraculously return to life ? Few enough so that we care!
Also; People are escaping so often or being set free from prison in the fairy realm that prison seems more like a joke. The series would have been much better if it had 10 less episodes. The ending was anti climatic, brief & suspiciously unexplained( too much like a dream than reality. Sadly, By the time the drama ended I had lost all affection for the characters. It at least should have ended in Ep 32 with The male lead in his dream state ! Too little warmth & fun & too much filler & situation repeats.

Love is the most powerful weapon!!

Love between fairy and devil is the story of Moon supreme,Dongfang Qingcang and Orchid,a fairy of Shuiyuntian realm. It tells us how love can be the most powerful weapon in the world to stop wars and restore peace.
The moon supreme, played by Dylan Wang,is arrogant, but sensitive, emotional, loving andd responsible. He is sealed in the Haotian tower ,who is accidentally brought to the Shuiyuntian realm by Orchid.
All the outfits of Dylan Wang were superb and were a treat to watch. He is fabulous as the moon supreme.
Yue Shuxin was also good in her role.
The actors, story, sets, costumes, screenplay were pretty good. The vfx was also very good.
A good watch drama.👌

Best xianxia drama

LBFAD is what you call a masterpiece xianxia drama, they rarely make such dramas which has all ur expectations ticked n delivered. It's so well made n acted out so well too. I literally had a hangover of this drama after i finished it, n kept watching few scenes n episodes on repeat after I finished watching as I wasnt able to move on to another one easily. The ost is so addictive, I find it hard to point any shortcomings in this drama, it's the standard for me in xianxia dramas, how I wish we get similar made drama or part 2 of this drama only. I Highly recommend it, U won't be disappointed.

One of the Best Xianxias You’ll Ever Watch with an Amazing Soundtrack

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is hands down one of the best xianxias out there! I remember binge-watching it while it was still airing on Netflix only to scramble for an IQIYI subscription when Netflix’s episode release schedule lagged behind.

The setting isn’t groundbreaking—it’s your classic opposites attract trope featuring a dark, brooding male lead and a bubbly, somewhat childish female lead. But everything from character, arcs and costumes and dialogues in this drama will blow you away.

I also have to give you guys a fair warning. If this is your first drama with Esther Yu, don’t let her voice or the way her character acts be a dealbreaker! It just takes some time to warm up to her.

I’m not usually a fan of childlike characters, but her Orchid evolves significantly throughout the series. Trust me, Esther is talented! (If in doubt, check out "My Journey to You.") So, even if you’re not a fan of her character at the beginning, hang in there—it’s absolutely worth it.

Now, onto our male lead! Dylan Wang’s performance really impressed me, especially when I reflect on his earlier work. I believe I saw something with him before LBFAD and he wasn’t all that amazing. But his portrayal of Dongfang QingCang was captivating—his facial micro-expressions and character growth kept me thoroughly entertained, especially when he was in his bad boy era. His acting really improved.

At its core, this drama narrates a love story between a cold and ruthless male who has his people to protect—justifiably so even if his means are not that great—and a clueless yet endearing female lead.

There's a love triangle too, which is actually something I enjoy a lot as long as both mail leads are on the same level.

I must admit, I struggled between my preference between Dylan Wang and Zhang Ling He. they are both very flawed and they both grow throughout the show. The bromance later in the series was cherry on top.

In a nutshell, it’s a tale about characters evolving beyond their own selfish desires and willing to sacrifice those desires for the greater good.

The series combines various beloved tropes like opposites attract and body swap delivering intriguing situations while allowing the actors to showcase their skills. The CGI is visually appealing, and the costumes are stunning! Sure, I noticed a few uneven CGI moments, but that’s expected in most C-dramas.

I have several favorite scenes that I often revisit:
- **Episode 9**: Dongfang QingCang being a bad$$
- **Episode 13**: Captivating and emotional.
- **Episodes 25/26**: Pure magic.
- **Episode 28**: Just incredible!
- **Episode 31**: An emotional rollercoaster—prepare to be crushed!

That said, I agree with others who felt the last few episodes dragged a bit. After episode 31, the pacing slowed down, and while I understand the creative choices behind it, I believe the execution could have been improved. The finale felt rushed, and after investing in this emotionally draining journey, we deserved a stronger resolution. Sometimes, a mere 30 seconds of characters basking in their happy ending just doesn’t cut it!

Nevertheless, this remains one of my favorite xianxia dramas. I seldom rewatch shows, but I recently dove back into this one. The emotional impact was just as potent, and I actually discovered nuances I overlooked the first time.

My verdict: I highly recommend "Love Between Fairy and Devil" to all xianxia lovers! 🎉

PS I think every single person who watched and enjoyed this drama will agree with me. LBFAD has one of the best soundtracks you will probably ever hear in a C-drama. I mean, I hope that they will make something even better. But so far from everything I’ve seen music from this drama tops everything else.

LOVE CAN MELT THE COLDEST PERSON!?

*** Spoiler Alert (PERSONAL FEEDBACK)
Title : Love Between Fairy and Devil - 2022 (Complete 36 Episode)
Personal Rating : 10/10

LOVE CAN MELT THE COLDEST PERSON!😍

Love Between Fairy and Devil is one of my re-watched dramas. For me, Dylan Wang/ Wang Hedi and Ester Yu/ Yu Shu Xin is one of the best couples in the Xianxia world. And they are still close even the drama ended.
Love Between Fairy and Devil is a Xianxia drama, with a story of classic forbidden love between a devil and a fairy. A cold, no emotion male falling in love and begin to change because of a warm, bubby weak fairy with a hidden identity. The story will travel in three realm. Shuiyuntian (the immortal fairy realm), Cangyan Sea (the Moon Tribe), and Yunmeng Lake (the mortal world)

This drama may not be for everyone because of the idea of the FL being damsel in destressed. And the voice of Ester sometimes irritates other people because it's high-pitched and childlike, but I find her very cute and not cringy.
But what makes this drama stand out from other xianxia dramas is that it has VERY BEAUTIFUL cinematography, CGIs, costumes, and OST. And how the actors and actresses portray their character perfectly and genuinely.

Ester Yu plays Xiao Lan Hua (the orchid fairy), but she’s also Xi Yun, the goddess with a character development from from being a weak fairy to a strong goddess and she gives justice to it because even her voices change. And I cannot think of anyone who can portray Dong Fang Qing Cang / Moon Supreme as perfect as Dylan with his domineering and cold emotion. He is just perfect. There are lot of scenes which make you fall in love with MOON SUPREME. 🌙🖤

Overall, this drama is one of the best for me. It’s a total roller coaster of emotions. This is a romantic comedy drama with a happy ending!

OST – Farewell Love by Faye --- is so addicting and one of my favorites so far!!! ❤️❤️❤️

GENRE – Xianxia, Romantic, Comedy

CAST – Dylan Wang/ Wang Hedi , Ester Yu/ Yu Shu Xin

A magical dream that you don't want to come out of

This drama has been out for more than 1.5 years and pretty much everything that needs to be said has been said. The only thing I want to add is that this drama is probably the most magical drama I have ever watched. It's like a dream that you don't want to get out of.

The things I liked:
1. The story was tight knit, solid and had good consistency throughout even though towards the end it felt a little disjointed but the thematic coherency they maintained was good.Execution was elegant, character development, plot development, dialogues everything was done with thoughtfulness and effort.
2. The acting. Aside from Dylan and Esther being downright spectacular, I liked how the supporting cast also proved themselves especially Zhang linghe as changheng and ronghao's actor was brilliant.
3. This drama has probably one of the best osts I have ever heard. It complemented the scenes and even provided context for the characters emotional states in such a way that was so raw and so poignant sometimes that you forget it's a drama.
4. The costumes. Especially dongfang qingcang's costumes that Dylan rocked. Man is made to be wearing long dark elegant beautifully embroidered robes! I loved the color schemes and the aesthetics that they were trying to going for that addr an extra layer to their identities, be it cangyan tribe or shuyuntian people or the XISHAN people.
5. Production value and cgi was through the roof. The budget reflects that and it delivered. One of the c dramas that I have seen with Hollywood level cgi.

Things I felt could be better:
1. The drama being 4 episodes longer which would have made the finale more impactful and not feel rushed. Especially dongfang qingcang's death and his revival.
2. Xunfeng and danyin should have been a couple.
3. More background on taisui and how the first goddess subdued him. I felt like they just introduced him as a plot device, about whom we got to know very little about. He just appeared few times and suddenly after ep 31 he is the big threat. The transition seemed forced.
4. Ronghao killing the xilan tribe and the supposed ties between xiyun and chidi was introduced and then was never addressed which is odd.

This drama is one of the best xianxia love stories that I have watched and many more dramas will come and go but this will have a special place in my heart.

I hold a deep admiration for Dylan Wang and his remarkable performances across various projects. His dedication and passion, especially evident in this fantasy nonfiction drama, are nothing short of perfection. The unreal quality of his acting in this particular drama deserves special commendation. Yu Shu Xin, portraying the bluebird fairy alongside Dylan Wang, delivered a stellar performance, contributing to the success of the production. The chemistry between them was not only awesome but also incredibly believable. Witnessing the magic visuals during fight scenes was a beautiful experience, and all the fantasy elements were executed exceptionally well. The costumes, particularly the extravagant headgear worn by Dylan Wang, were a visual delight. I'm curious about the creative minds behind them.

Additionally, the acting of Zhang Ling He, Xu Hai Qiao, and Cristy Guo was equally impressive. Kudos to all the remaining actors and actresses who played vital roles in bringing this captivating storyline to life. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved; each team member played a crucial part in making this drama unforgettable.

However, I do have one critique—I found the ending a bit confusing. The complexity left me wondering about the possibility of a sequel. I'm truly hoping for a part two to provide further clarity and continuation of this intriguing story.

This is my first cdrama, and let's just say I started out too strongly that everything else I tried to start watching after that was bland 😅. (Finally stopped thinking about it 4 days later to start another the new one isn't doing so good in comparison haha)

I wished the ending was slightly different which is why I rated story as 9.5 (would be KEEN for season 2)

I love the FL, ML and 2nd ML.

I laughed, cried, got angry, cheered, shouted 'whyyyy?!' at the screen 😂 highly recommend this series!

So funny and too good!

The first few minutes were confusing and I thought this is going to be a long complicated drama trying to figure out all the character names, but as I got watching it turned out to be seriously good! And incredibly funny - there were loads of moments where I couldn’t stop laughing! I didn’t expect it to be this good!

The leads actors not only did their roles justice but I feel went up and beyond. They were perfect for the roles and made the drama enjoyable and entertaining to watch.

Great unique storyline and execution! It’s one of my top favourite Cdramas.
