The acting defeats me.

It has an interesting story line, However, sometimes I can be quite particular about acting and acting could have turned me off from continuing or enjoying it.
If I can give rating for different role, I will give Dylan Wang a 8 (he has improved in acting); A 3 for Esther Yu. Perhaps she is still new as an actress. She is like trying too hard with cuteness, innocence, crying or laughing ...,or when she is switched to DongFang, trying to act serious. As a result , I pretty much skipped most part of the show.
I think the only parts I enjoyed are some light hearted scenes when the characters switched , This devil role fits well on Dylan Wang and the cuteness he tries to portray as her is more convincing.

He's almighty but she's his Achilles, so he fell first and harder

Love Between Fairy and Devil wasn’t just a fantasy romance it was my grand entrance into xianxia, and what an entrance that was. Introduced to Dylan Wang, little did I know how badly he’d catch my attention the moment he stepped on screen. He never, ever let it go by the way.

At the heart of this emotional whirlwind is Dongfang Qingcang, and from the moment he steps on screen, there is no mistaking his power. He is the Moon Supreme, a being so powerful that his very existence can shape the fate of the world. And yet, his life depends on the survival of a little orchid. At first glance, Xiao Lanhua seems like the last person who could shake his world small, helpless, not exactly battle ready but that’s where this story fools you. Because it’s her growth, her quiet yet undeniable strength, that ultimately defines their love story.

Their relationship? Complicated from the start. Dongfang Qingcang isn’t just an enemy of the fairy world he’s literally public enemy number one, and Xiao Lanhua spends a good chunk of time fearing for her life whenever he’s around. The very thought of him being discovered at her place sends chills down her spine, and honestly, who can blame her? But here’s the thing: she starts to see him. Not just the Moon Supreme, not just the terrifying figure legends warn about, but the man beneath it all. The one who has spent centuries suffocating under the weight of his own power, who has forgotten what it means to be anything but invincible. And slowly, she stops seeing him as a threat and starts seeing him as someone worth saving.

But it’s not just her journey that’s compelling his transformation is just as devastatingly beautiful. Dongfang Qingcang has no concept of love. To him, emotions are weakness, kindness is foreign, and vulnerability? Absolutely not happening. Except, against all odds, Xiao Lanhua worms her way in. She challenges him, annoys him to no end, but most of all she makes him feel. And Dylan Wang captures this transformation with incredible precision. Every flicker of hesitation, every flash of jealousy (his barely contained irritation at Changheng is a work of art), every desperate moment of realizing he’s no longer in control of his heart it’s all there, plain as day. By the time he reaches his breaking point, completely undone by love, you realize there was never any other ending for him.

And let’s talk about their chemistry, because good luck finding another pair who can sell both bickering and heartbreaking devotion like this. Every moment between them feels alive, charged with meaning, whether it’s a stolen glance, an argument disguised as concern, or those quiet, devastating moments when neither of them has to say a word. Xiao Lanhua might seem delicate next to him, but she never backs down, and that’s exactly why their dynamic is so powerful.

Visually, the series is just as striking. The Moon Tribe’s costumes? Impeccable. Black and gold, bold and intricate they don’t just look powerful, they radiate it. In contrast, the fairies of Shuyintian are wrapped in pale whites, almost too delicate, too pristine a deliberate contrast that only makes the Moon Tribe’s presence more commanding. And then there’s Dongfang Qingcang, whose regal attire is fit for the almighty king he is. Every stitch of his costume reflects his immense power and status. But it’s the branch shaped crown they designed for him that truly stands out. It is exotic, majestic and complements his persona perfectly, making him look every bit the formidable Moon Supreme he is. All those details elevate his character even further and add an extra layer of grandeur to his already commanding presence.

The soundtrack? Hauntingly beautiful. Every piece of music isn’t just background noise it’s an extension of the emotions on screen. The kind of OST that lingers, pulling you back into the story long after it’s over.

And of course, the fight scenes! Dongfang Qingcang vs. Changheng after Orchid’s trial? iconic! This isn’t just a battle; it’s a statement. Every blow carries a message: stay away from her. The sheer power behind his attacks, the barely contained fury it’s not just about winning, it’s about protecting. And when he knocks Changheng down like it’s second nature, the point is crystal clear. But even in his most fearsome moments, Orchid remains his only anchor, the one person who can pull him back from the brink, and that in itself is just as powerful as any battle.

And while Dongfang Qingcang commands most of the attention, the supporting cast more than holds their own. The Black Dragon Dongfang Qingcang’s loyal lieutenant brings a perfect balance of unwavering loyalty and warmth, adding an unexpected layer of humor and heart to a world already brimming with tension. And Jieli? A scene stealer in her own right. Whether she’s weaving wild stories or talking her way out of trouble, she injects energy and unpredictability into every moment.

At its core, Love Between Fairy and Devil isn’t just about romance it’s about power, sacrifice, and what it means to choose love in its rawest, most unfiltered form. It’s about letting go of everything you’ve ever known for the one person who makes life worth it.

And if I have one complaint? We deserved a wedding. After everything, a full blown Moon Supreme wedding with over the top outfits and dramatic vows would have been perfection. But even without it, it was already an unforgettable series.
Final verdict? An unforgettable love story, an emotional rollercoaster, and a masterclass in storytelling

Exceed expectations!

I know I was late several years, but better late than never, right?
I watched several xianxia before so I kind of knew what to expect (the angst, sacrifice, usual tropes, etc) and I knew this drama has a high rating, so I had my expectations. Little did I know that I would be this affected and LBFAD easily become one of the best C-Drama I've ever watched. So much so that I wish I could go back and watched it for the first time just to savor the magic all over again. It's been over a month and I am still struggling to move on! Hahaha.

What I really love :
- It is tropey, indeed. The ML who is cold, domineering and ruthless bows down to the weak, bubbly, and cute FL. I mean we have seen this kind of setup so many times, right? But since it is done right, it doesn't feel cringey or over the top at all. It just makes you want to root for them. Ex: the legendary Ep 9. I did not usually swoon over the ML action scene, but man you have to admit DFQC is so cool in this scene!
- The subversion of the tropes. I love xianxia for the angst, but often time it feels like only the ML sacrifices a lot. Not to mention the miscommunication! But LBFAD manages to avoid this and I was surprised. I found myself crying, not because the ML has to suffer again, but because I can feel how they truly love each other and how beautiful their love is. Kudos to Ep 19 and 28 for portraying how couple in healthy relationship may argue. The SML is also not the annoying one you tend to see on another drama, but he is so mature and understanding.
- The CGI, while sometimes feel a little bit over the top, is so easy in the eyes. The color pallettes are also very beautiful. Oh, not to forget, dragon!
- The setting. I was blown away with Throne Room in Cangyan Hai. The details of the carving is so amazing. Not to mention how this drama capture the vibes of every place depicted.
- The acting, I love how DFQC has this annoyed and angry look all the time, but you can tell how he feels just by a slight change in his face or gesture. You can see that he is angry-frustrated, angry but softens a bit, angry but proud, angry but sad, and so on. His proud and pompous expression are top-notch! Not to mention when he swapped body with Orchid (and fangirling over Changheng HAHAHA that is so comical!). When he cries, of course we want to cry with him as well. Orchid, she is just cute and innocent, but she makes me cry a lot with her sacrifices. Kudos for the main leads and definitely looking forward to their projects! Oh, also their chemistry is on fireeee.
- The characters. You can easily understand the logic and drive behind every characters, even the villainous ones. So, no character (unless Lord Yunzhong) feels one-dimensional. Of course, they all get character development as well. So satisfying to watch.
- The development of the romance. LBFAD explains very nicely how our CP fall in love. It doesn't feel rushed and feels so natural and I understand very well why they fell in love with each other. It is something that I don't get in my previous xianxias (often time I ended up guessing why they fell in love).
- The details and easter eggs are thrown over throughout the shows, which shows a lot of care and attention by the crews. Good job!
- The OST. Wow, I could easily listen to all of the songs in one playlist without skipping. I love them all, especially the opening, To Find You and Amnesia.

What could have gone better:
- The pacing. The mortal arc might just be a tad bit longer than I expected and of course talking about the last 4-5 episodes that feel so sped up and so many things happened in 1 episode, and then it became slow on the next episode. Well, since I heard that one of the editors passed away, it is understandable.
- The ending!! Like seriously? We are robbed of more lovely moments with our CP!
- Orchid's voice and character might be annoying, but if you could pass through it, then you will be rewarded with a very great story. I sincerely didn't feel that annoyed because I've seen this kind of character before, so I am used to it.

Overall, it is not perfect but it is one of the best xianxia ever. You will be changed. Go watch it! I sincerely regret why I didn't watch the show earlier, and never judge a show by its posters!

A Mesmerizing Fantasy With Unmatched Chemistry

If there’s one thing that makes Love Between Fairy and Devil truly unforgettable, it’s the chemistry between the leads. Honestly, the connection between the main actors is nothing short of spectacular. From their very first interaction to the most emotional moments, the energy between them feels natural, powerful, and absolutely captivating. It’s not just on-screen; their synergy radiates beyond the drama, making every scene feel alive.

The story itself is brilliantly crafted. It’s a fantasy tale with depth, full of twists and emotional arcs that keep you engaged from beginning to end. The plot is well-developed and balanced, blending romance, humor, and drama seamlessly.

Visually, the drama is a masterpiece. The sets and landscapes are breathtaking—epic, magical, and immersive. Every frame feels like a painting, adding to the grandeur of the story.

The performances by both leads are exceptional. The female lead brings grace and strength to her character, while the male lead delivers intensity and depth that elevate every scene. Their acting, combined with that electric chemistry, is truly the soul of the drama.

The soundtrack is another highlight—emotional, enchanting, and perfectly matched to the tone of each moment. It adds an extra layer of magic to an already mesmerizing experience.

If I had one critique, it would be the ending. While satisfying, it could have given us more—perhaps showing their wedding or a deeper glimpse into their happily ever after. That would have made the conclusion as grand as the journey itself.

Overall, Love Between Fairy and Devil is a beautifully constructed drama, carried by phenomenal acting, stunning visuals, an immersive story, and, above all, a chemistry that’s second to none.

This drama and DFQC ruined me!!! (In the Best Possible Way)

This one sits in a completely different tier of my heart. Do listen to the raving reviews and go watch it!!! When I say favorite of all time, I mean the kind that rearranges your taste in drama, spoils you for other male leads, and makes every future romance feel a little under-seasoned. I've rewatched this countless times and still laugh, swoon, melt and cry every single time!!

What makes it hit so hard is how deeply, intentionally, painfully well-crafted the character arcs are—especially Dong Fang Qing Cang (DFQC). He isn’t just a cold, cruel, untouchable, extremely powerful and sexy ML… he’s the blueprint!!

The writing gives him space to be terrifying, then curious, then conflicted, then undone, then devoted. You feel the armor crack one silent stare at a time. His evolution isn’t rushed or cheesy—it's earned, layered, and honestly one of the best emotional slow burns I’ve ever seen in any fantasy romance.

And Xiao Lan Hua (XLH)—she’s not just the cute, naïve fairy she starts out as. Her arc is a full gradient of growth. She becomes someone with depth, courage, and agency… but she never loses her essence. What I adore is that both leads grow, but neither eclipses the other. It’s a partnership built through trial, devotion, and choices that cost them something real.
Their relationship?
Ugh. The way they love each other is what makes this show unforgettable.
There’s tenderness, there’s pain, there’s sacrifice that feels mythic yet intimate. You watch them become each other’s undoing and salvation in equal measure. It’s epic without being melodramatic, romantic without being fluffy, and tragic without being hollow.
The world-building, the aesthetics, the OST—every piece works in service of that emotional core. But what stays with you long after is how DFQC and XLH change each other. How love becomes something that transforms, not consumes.
If you want a fantasy romance with genuine depth, character arcs that punch you in the chest, and a love story that leave you yearning endlessly and completely ruins you this is the one.
No contest. No hesitation. This is the standard. There's a reason it's often voted and mentioned as the next Xian xia drama even by the end of 2025!!

Can't recommend enough!!

THIS IS SO GOOD OMG it's such a classic I can't wait to forget everything so I can rewatch it!!

1. Story (mild spoilers ahead)
interesting story line and it was paced almost perfectly, there was a slight lag, for me personally as I didn't care for the screentime awarded to CH but other than I loved it. Also would have loved a better conclusion for the cloud guy, I thought we were gearing up to him being ousted but its okay.
It has the typical xia ending of last 5 mins but the special made up for it.

2. Acting/Cast
god such great acting, wow. Every single person acted their hearts out in every single scene, even the minor ones. The support roles were phenomenal but the leads? they acted their asses off I am so impressed. FL's voice did take a bit to get used to but given her acting range showcased I decided to bear with it and good thing I did.

3. Music
I don't put much thought to music and ost so I will just say it is nice and not off-putting at all.

4. Rewatch Value
High, very high indeed. I will definitely be back.

One of the best romance xanxia

Initially very reluctant because of Esther Yu’s voice in the beginning, I gave it a chance because of the very high reviews… and oh my… such a rewarding drama. Both leads are perfectly cast and their chemistry is outstanding. Special mention to Wang Dylan … and also Esther Yu who perfectly embody their characters and evolution. the story is extremely addictive past ep. 8 when it all really starts in my opinion
And it is supported by one of the best OST
Very difficult to let go and find another one after this one

Tediously over long with too many resuscitations & escapes

the kisses & Dylan Wang were swoon worthy but this drama is tediously over long. HOW many times should a character die & miraculously return to life ? Few enough so that we care!
Also; People are escaping so often or being set free from prison in the fairy realm that prison seems more like a joke. The series would have been much better if it had 10 less episodes. The ending was anti climatic, brief & suspiciously unexplained( too much like a dream than reality. Sadly, By the time the drama ended I had lost all affection for the characters. It at least should have ended in Ep 32 with The male lead in his dream state ! Too little warmth & fun & too much filler & situation repeats.

Didn't meet my expectations; a good watch for xianxia beginners

Unpopular opinion but sorry to say, I don't think I got what I was looking for from this drama. I expected way better. This drama did disappoint me a lot.

The editing is a clear problem, especially in the first episodes. They cut the episodes mid conversation and scenes, resulting you to lose flow even if you watched episodes back to back. The scene editing in a single episode too is floppy, again interrupting the flow. But as the drama progresses, it gets a lot better.

Speaking of characters, starting off with the main leads. The usual naive girl and cold male trope typical to xianxia - felt too used. I genuinely didn't like Esther Yu's Orchid character. She is too naive in the beginning, and her character growth isn't clwarly visible. Being cute and overboard in a cringey way is one thing and being foolishly naive is another. Dongfang Qingcang is introduced as an unbeatable force but he soon lost his charm the moment he started developing feelings. The condition of no emotions for using hellfire just dampened the whole weight of the so called devil. Again, he isn't even a devil per say. That wasn't what I expected. The last minute addition of glazed fire concept is also not helpful, because we don't get to see him use it at all. Also, I feel the idea of having to teach an emotionless being to love is too old, frustrating and unhealthy. Esther Yu and Dylan Wang(especially) did not ensemble the weight of the characters they were playing; not because they aren't good actors but because they just don't visually fit in. In fact, I feel they did a wonderful job with the acting. A round of applause for both of them. But again, I don't think it's necessarily Esther Yu's acting that is faulty. Her acting is just not my cup of tea.

The characters that actually impressed me were Changheng and Danyin. Changheng is the one who really broke the usual xianxia norm and brought in freshness. Unlike the known outcast Qingcang, he, a god and someone who had never once broken a rule, chose to stand for Orchid even if it meant execution. That is not what you usually see in thos genre. Zhang Linghe's acting capability truly shines through in this drama. The different roles he played within a single drama was amazing. The mortal arc was definitely the best. Him and Qingcang's sworn brother scenes were hilarious. Dylan Wang does it really well too. Danyin is my next favorite. The most sensible character of all. Yes she loved a man, made the impulsive choice to face mortal tribulations with him, but also knew when to stop and let go. That is yet another breath of fresh air, considering how second female leads in xianxias are icky, petty and obsessive in all the most frustrating ways.

I couldn't give the slightest care for Ronghao and Chidi though. Their acting was good, I could say from the scenes I did watch. But for the most, I couldn't find myself involved in their storyline at all. Skipped a lot of it.

Jieli felt like a very fickle character too. All actions she does had a selfish gain and thus, the entire idea of 'it hurts to see you love me when I'm lying to you' wasn't convincing enough. I couldn't sympathize with her, viewing her as a good character who had her reasons. Just liked few moments here and there.

Lord Yunzhong of the fairy realm as well. I think he needed to be at least stripped of his post. He was clearly not a good leader.

Still there are plenty of good reasons to keep going.

The drama does a great job with visuals. Beautiful landscapes, costumes and special effects. Although the many immortals in the hall looked weird with the mask, it was adjustable. I loved the pink skies of the fairy realm and the night views of the moon tribe.

The depth and seriousness of being 2 lovers from different realms who are enemies, torn apart by responsibilities, is well potrayed. You can feel the helplessness and the moral dilemma. As much as I wasn't invested, I did tear up during the parting scene (but well, I'm prone to crying while watching shows T_T). The drama also has original ideas. Even if the 3 realm concept was retained, what the characters did and how they interacted are original to this drama. There isn't a whole new 'falling in love again' side quest, not just in the mortal realm (where it usually happens) but anywhere in the drama. It has it's own pros and cons though. Also, the drama doesn't drag with the same 2 things. There was a lot for 36 episodes.

The OSTs and background music are very big plus points too. I loved the songs.

Ya, final opinion is, I'm definitely not rewatching it ever because I had to force myself not to drop it. This drama to me was either 1) you are into a bunch of characters and watch them with a little skipping or 2) you don't and skip them entirely. If you are new to xianxia or in early stages of the genre, this one is considerably a better one.

The Legend of Dongfang Qingcang: Why LBFAD is a 10/10 Masterpiece

Having watched Dylan since this drama, it’s clear that Dongfang Qingcang was the role he was born to play. He perfectly balances the "Moon Supreme" aura, intimidating, cold, and powerful, with the hilarious and soft moments during the body-swap scenes. Watching his "Tree of Emotions" slowly bloom from a frozen wasteland into a lush garden is one of the most satisfying character arcs in C-Drama history.

The Aesthetics: From the Arbiter Hall to the Silent Abyss, the CGI and set designs are breathtaking. It truly feels like a high-budget fairy tale.

The OST: Songs like "Find You" (Xun Cha) and "Parting Love" (Jue Ai) aren't just background music; they are the heartbeat of the show. I still get chills hearing the opening notes!

Final Verdict: 10/10
LBFAD isn't just a drama; it's an experience. It redefined the "Anti-Hero" trope and proved that Dylan Wang is a powerhouse actor. If you enjoyed his "badass" side in Guardians of the Dafeng, you have to see where that legendary presence started.

Love is the most powerful weapon!!

Love between fairy and devil is the story of Moon supreme,Dongfang Qingcang and Orchid,a fairy of Shuiyuntian realm. It tells us how love can be the most powerful weapon in the world to stop wars and restore peace.
The moon supreme, played by Dylan Wang,is arrogant, but sensitive, emotional, loving andd responsible. He is sealed in the Haotian tower ,who is accidentally brought to the Shuiyuntian realm by Orchid.
All the outfits of Dylan Wang were superb and were a treat to watch. He is fabulous as the moon supreme.
Yue Shuxin was also good in her role.
The actors, story, sets, costumes, screenplay were pretty good. The vfx was also very good.
A good watch drama.👌
