beautiful plot and more beautiful settings

I love the casts especially dylan wang as the devil dong fang qing chang.

Scenery and settings of the story are breathtaking. Personally, I think the Arbiter Hall is the best designed as the setting for grooming love between the fairy and devil. m

the costumes are quity pretty too and distinctive when xiao lan hua is in the moon tribes.

I think the only cons is that I wish to see the supporting role more entertaining. The main leads did a good job though.

its only 16 episodes out of 36 in iqiyi now! wish i could read the novel!

edit: I just finished 36 episodes in this drama. damn I love Dong Fang Qing Chang character so much. Dylan Wang acts really good as him. Xiao Lan Hua character is lovely, but Esther performance is just alright as her. Somehow, there are scenes of her that is quite cringy and not as powerful. Aside from that, I have to give applause to actors that play Rong Hao and Chi Di. Their facial expressions and the way they carries themselves is top notch for the characters they play.

cons is probably ending is too abrupt! and too many rebirth and deaths of the lead roles hahha. it was really entertaining drama, love the plots and twists :)

So - So

The title saids it, it’s okay, so so. Don’t know what the hype is about. I watched Eternal Love, Love and Redemption, Immortal Samara, Ashes of Love, they are way more interesting in story plot and character development. Seems like this is an easy pass for teenager audience. It doesn’t make you cry, just light humor here and there. CG and music is good but then what? Have to drop at episode 11. Pretty cliche to me that a cold emotionless man pretending he doesnt care and then. fell in love with a bubbly girl character. And they both pretend they are aren’t falling for each other…typical. Acting is alright, not a fan of calling good acting just because you can make funny faces or crying out loud like a big bawling baby as top tier acting skills.

Couldn’t finish it

I enjoy slow development of romance as that’s more realistic. However, not sure how people can rate this so high.

ML did great and I seen other of his series and I think he did the best he could in this series. FL was annoying with her child-like acting. The child-like pouting and voice was over the top. It got more and more annoying each episode to a point where she looks like a dump and ignorant. I just don’t understand how people can think it’s cute. Some part where it’s supposed to be funny and cute, instead you’re thinking is the girl really that stupid. Storyline wasn’t great but wasn’t bad. I think pushing the child-like FL lasted too long for me.

Music was good. Overall, I think it could be a better series if I didn’t get so annoyed with FL acting. Please directors, stop with the overacting of child-like characters.

Watched most of the episodes but could not bring myself to finish just yet

It started out kind of too cutesy for me and thought it would be like Ashes of Love but thankfully it was not that.

I was laughing aloud multiple times first several episodes. Some of the best comedy anywhere in C-drama. Script is top notch. And the acting by Dylan and Esther was done with great chemistry and skill.

It's one of the few dramas where the ML as bad guy truly makes you understand the vastness of his power in the first 2 episodes. I don't think any other fantasy c-drama has shown this level of depth for a character that starts out bad. Most of them tend to be too cutesy or just full of angst all the time.

Esther was great in this role. I also watched her in Moonlight and enjoyed her there as well. I do not have any problems with her voice. She plays cute girl roles and this fit her.

Dylan was really good as the ML. I watched him in The Rational Life and that is such a great show as well. Here, he plays someone without emotions in the beginning and slowly transforms. I find him more interesting in the first 1/2 than the 2nd half. But then again, I have not finished it.

There are multiple dramas that I watched while they were ongoing that I stopped towards the 2/3. Immortal Samsara, Love like Galaxy, and this show. I think after a while, we viewers just get tired of watching the same type of shows. I probably will finish this along with the other 2 one day. In the meantime, I watched and finished some other shows.

Lovely Drama

I have to admit I started watching this drama because the episodes of "Immortal Samsara" are slowing being translated into English and I needed another drama to fill in. At first I was not impressed with the the way the story line was going and I found the FL's voice a bit irritating. I decided to keep on watching and I am so happy I did. FL's voice grew on me and the storyline is now so interesting and enjoyable. The ML, Dylan Wang is terrific. I am not a familiar with any of the actors except Xu Hai Qiao who also acted in "Dream of Splendor", which I loved. He plays an excellent villain. I cannot wait to watch episode 11 and see what else transpires. By the way, all the main actors are so good looking and the scenery and costumes terrific. I would definetly recommend watching this drama. Just remember, it takes a few episodes for it to be enjoyable.

Disappointed in the Drama

I was looking forward to watching this drama only to be disappointed. The main Female Actress Ruins the drama for me. This is my second attempt to watch this drama because Yu Shu Xin’s voice is irritating and quite annoying. She seems to perform the same childish performance in her other roles and films. Every time she opens her mouth, it makes me cringe. I’m curious how she’s able to land lead roles. Li Yi Tong would have been a better fairy because she can portray an annoying person without being childish. I feel sorry for Dylan that he has to act with an ungroomed and untrained actress. It doesn’t seem like he’s putting much effort into this drama as with the other dramas he’s done. Can’t blame him. Although the drama had a weak start the storyline and script got better and more interesting after episode 15 but it still could use some improvements. The special effects were ok. I’m not sure if I’ll have the patience to finish this drama.

Magical Immortal Idiot Tour

***This is my honest opinion after watching the first six episodes. You can disagree, but you can't impose a totalitarian ban on my thoughts and freedom of expression. I am not a pop idol fan, and I approach my reviews not as any kind of stan, but as a person with training and experience in film and television. There is no cause for animosity towards me just because I uphold a certain standard for what I choose to watch. You can't stand Esther Yu being critiqued by me, then don't read my review. Simple.***

I knew I was going to hate this as soon as I heard Esther Yu's awful, whiney, cutesy voice as narrator. She's an entertainer, not an actress. I don't know what she trained as, maybe she is a pop idol and that's why she gets FL roles, but with that voice, that lack of acting ability, and her usual cutesy stupidity she brings to every single role, here's another drama for her to render completely unwatchable.

I've said this so many times, and I will continue to say it, innocence and stupidity are not the same thing. You can be a young woman who is naive and innocent, and still not need to be saved every few minutes, or constantly trip over yourself to make you more "relatable" by making you appear quirky. There is nothing endearing about behaving like a toddler, and anyone who finds that kind of Mary Sue behaviour endearing needs to grow up.

In this drama, she finds herself swapping bodies with Dylan Wang the ML, intermittently. All she really does to become the ML, is put her head down, and stop smiling. That's all she has the acting ability for, as she isn't a real actress. She doesn't even look like a FL, as she looks very ordinary, like Zhao Lu Si, another overrated actress, except Zhao can actually act if she is put in a comedy, but not in a drama.

I'm sorry to be hard on any FL, but I can't stand the Mary Sue trend. I don't expect women to act more like men, all I ask is that they act like adult women, that's all. I don't understand what is so good about watching an adult woman behave like a toddler.

The ML is forced to mimic the stupidity of the FL when he switches bodies with her, which he does quite well. The fact that our FL is being acted in the body and voice of the ML is a decided improvement over the FL being herself. Dylan Wang seems to enjoy this chance to be both the colourful anti-hero, and the out of body FL.

The impressive acting is coming by way of newcomer Zhang Ling He, and Xu Hai Qiao. Zhang Ling He impressed me when I saw him in, "Maiden Holmes". Xu Hai Qiao is an actor with a doughball face, not unlike Esther Yu's own. He is an average looking guy, but with talent! Unlike this FL, he stands out because he can actually act, so it doesn't matter that he may not look like a male model like many of the male cast in this drama. What I guess I am getting at here, is I am not about to lower my standards when it comes to the level of acting I expect from a Chinese drama. I think that would be a disservice, and I want to believe that just because casting pop idols as actors is trendy and popular, doesn't mean that they should be allowed to take the place of real actors who have trained to become actors. That doesn't mean that no pop idols can act, but a lot of them can't, like Ms. Yu.

Anyway, after forcing myself to watch 6 episodes of this, trying to skip over anytime Esther Yu appears or opens her mouth, I can conclude that this is another Xanxia that is going to drive me absolutely crazy because of the clichès. The fairies are feminine in the worst possible way (both childish and bullying each other, gossiping, doing all those stereotypical female things, but always being really stupid at the same time). The males are stoic and somewhat boring, though, ZLH and XHQ created characters that were beginning to interest me, and I would have wanted to watch more, had the FL been even slightly tollerable, but she isn't. Dylan Wang's character, though he is supposed to be a demon, and therefore the most colourful of all the characters, I found him to be missing any real personality so far, well, except for when he is playing the FL, but then he has to play her as annoying and dumb as she is. It's possible that his character becomes more complex and interesting later in the drama, but I can't really tolerate any more of the FL than I've already forced myself to watch.

Edit: Dylan Wang just keeps getting better and better! He has the best comedic facial expressions here. He's stopped being stoic and it is so pleasant to see a ML that is so expressive, even when it is played for laughs. Dylan Wang needs more colourful character roles, less typical stoic ML roles.

The acting defeats me.

It has an interesting story line, However, sometimes I can be quite particular about acting and acting could have turned me off from continuing or enjoying it.
If I can give rating for different role, I will give Dylan Wang a 8 (he has improved in acting); A 3 for Esther Yu. Perhaps she is still new as an actress. She is like trying too hard with cuteness, innocence, crying or laughing ...,or when she is switched to DongFang, trying to act serious. As a result , I pretty much skipped most part of the show.
I think the only parts I enjoyed are some light hearted scenes when the characters switched , This devil role fits well on Dylan Wang and the cuteness he tries to portray as her is more convincing.

He's almighty but she's his Achilles, so he fell first and harder

Love Between Fairy and Devil wasn’t just a fantasy romance — it was my grand entrance into xianxia, and what an entrance that was. Introduced to Dylan Wang, little did I know how badly he’d catch my attention the moment he stepped on screen. He never, ever let it go by the way.

At the heart of this emotional whirlwind is Dongfang Qingcang, and from the moment he steps on screen, there is no mistaking his power. He is the Moon Supreme, a being so powerful that his very existence can shape the fate of the world. And yet, his life depends on the survival of a little orchid. At first glance, Xiao Lanhua seems like the last person who could shake his world — small, helpless, not exactly battle-ready — but that’s where this story fools you. Because it’s her growth, her quiet yet undeniable strength, that ultimately defines their love story.

Their relationship? Complicated from the start. Dongfang Qingcang isn’t just an enemy of the fairy world — he’s literally public enemy number one, and Xiao Lanhua spends a good chunk of time fearing for her life whenever he’s around. The very thought of him being discovered at her place sends chills down her spine, and honestly, who can blame her? But here’s the thing: she starts to see him. Not just the Moon Supreme, not just the terrifying figure legends warn about, but the man beneath it all. The one who has spent centuries suffocating under the weight of his own power, who has forgotten what it means to be anything but invincible. And slowly, she stops seeing him as a threat and starts seeing him as someone worth saving.

But it’s not just her journey that’s compelling — his transformation is just as devastatingly beautiful. Dongfang Qingcang has no concept of love. To him, emotions are weakness, kindness is foreign, and vulnerability? Absolutely not happening. Except, against all odds, Xiao Lanhua worms her way in. She challenges him, annoys him to no end, but most of all — she makes him feel. And Dylan Wang captures this transformation with incredible precision. Every flicker of hesitation, every flash of jealousy (his barely-contained irritation at Changheng is a work of art), every desperate moment of realizing he’s no longer in control of his heart — it’s all there, plain as day. By the time he reaches his breaking point, completely undone by love, you realize there was never any other ending for him.

And let’s talk about their chemistry, because good luck finding another pair who can sell both bickering and heartbreaking devotion like this. Every moment between them feels alive, charged with meaning, whether it’s a stolen glance, an argument disguised as concern, or those quiet, devastating moments when neither of them has to say a word. Xiao Lanhua might seem delicate next to him, but she never backs down, and that’s exactly why their dynamic is so powerful.

Visually, the series is just as striking. The Moon Tribe’s costumes? Impeccable. Black and gold, bold and intricate — they don’t just look powerful, they radiate it. In contrast, the fairies of Shuyintian are wrapped in pale whites, almost too delicate, too pristine — a deliberate contrast that only makes the Moon Tribe’s presence more commanding. And then there’s Dongfang Qingcang, whose regal attire is fit for the almighty king he is. Every stitch of his costume reflects his immense power and status. But it’s the branch-shaped crown they designed for him that truly stands out. It is exotic, majestic and complements his persona perfectly, making him look every bit the formidable Moon Supreme he is. All those details elevate his character even further and add an extra layer of grandeur to his already commanding presence.

The soundtrack? Hauntingly beautiful. Every piece of music isn’t just background noise — it’s an extension of the emotions on screen. The kind of OST that lingers, pulling you back into the story long after it’s over.

And of course, the fight scenes! Dongfang Qingcang vs. Changheng after Orchid’s trial? iconic! This isn’t just a battle; it’s a statement. Every blow carries a message: stay away from her. The sheer power behind his attacks, the barely-contained fury — it’s not just about winning, it’s about protecting. And when he knocks Changheng down like it’s second nature, the point is crystal clear. But even in his most fearsome moments, Orchid remains his only anchor, the one person who can pull him back from the brink, and that in itself is just as powerful as any battle.

And while Dongfang Qingcang commands most of the attention, the supporting cast more than holds their own. The Black Dragon — Dongfang Qingcang’s loyal lieutenant — brings a perfect balance of unwavering loyalty and warmth, adding an unexpected layer of humor and heart to a world already brimming with tension. And Jieli? A scene-stealer in her own right. Whether she’s weaving wild stories or talking her way out of trouble, she injects energy and unpredictability into every moment.

At its core, Love Between Fairy and Devil isn’t just about romance — it’s about power, sacrifice, and what it means to choose love in its rawest, most unfiltered form. It’s about letting go of everything you’ve ever known for the one person who makes life worth it.

And if I have one complaint? We deserved a wedding. After everything, a full-blown Moon Supreme wedding with over-the-top outfits and dramatic vows would have been perfection. But even without it, it was already an unforgettable series.

Final verdict? An unforgettable love story, an emotional rollercoaster, and a masterclass in storytelling.

Exceed expectations!

I know I was late several years, but better late than never, right?
I watched several xianxia before so I kind of knew what to expect (the angst, sacrifice, usual tropes, etc) and I knew this drama has a high rating, so I had my expectations. Little did I know that I would be this affected and LBFAD easily become one of the best C-Drama I've ever watched. So much so that I wish I could go back and watched it for the first time just to savor the magic all over again. It's been over a month and I am still struggling to move on! Hahaha.

What I really love :
- It is tropey, indeed. The ML who is cold, domineering and ruthless bows down to the weak, bubbly, and cute FL. I mean we have seen this kind of setup so many times, right? But since it is done right, it doesn't feel cringey or over the top at all. It just makes you want to root for them. Ex: the legendary Ep 9. I did not usually swoon over the ML action scene, but man you have to admit DFQC is so cool in this scene!
- The subversion of the tropes. I love xianxia for the angst, but often time it feels like only the ML sacrifices a lot. Not to mention the miscommunication! But LBFAD manages to avoid this and I was surprised. I found myself crying, not because the ML has to suffer again, but because I can feel how they truly love each other and how beautiful their love is. Kudos to Ep 19 and 28 for portraying how couple in healthy relationship may argue. The SML is also not the annoying one you tend to see on another drama, but he is so mature and understanding.
- The CGI, while sometimes feel a little bit over the top, is so easy in the eyes. The color pallettes are also very beautiful. Oh, not to forget, dragon!
- The setting. I was blown away with Throne Room in Cangyan Hai. The details of the carving is so amazing. Not to mention how this drama capture the vibes of every place depicted.
- The acting, I love how DFQC has this annoyed and angry look all the time, but you can tell how he feels just by a slight change in his face or gesture. You can see that he is angry-frustrated, angry but softens a bit, angry but proud, angry but sad, and so on. His proud and pompous expression are top-notch! Not to mention when he swapped body with Orchid (and fangirling over Changheng HAHAHA that is so comical!). When he cries, of course we want to cry with him as well. Orchid, she is just cute and innocent, but she makes me cry a lot with her sacrifices. Kudos for the main leads and definitely looking forward to their projects! Oh, also their chemistry is on fireeee.
- The characters. You can easily understand the logic and drive behind every characters, even the villainous ones. So, no character (unless Lord Yunzhong) feels one-dimensional. Of course, they all get character development as well. So satisfying to watch.
- The development of the romance. LBFAD explains very nicely how our CP fall in love. It doesn't feel rushed and feels so natural and I understand very well why they fell in love with each other. It is something that I don't get in my previous xianxias (often time I ended up guessing why they fell in love).
- The details and easter eggs are thrown over throughout the shows, which shows a lot of care and attention by the crews. Good job!
- The OST. Wow, I could easily listen to all of the songs in one playlist without skipping. I love them all, especially the opening, To Find You and Amnesia.

What could have gone better:
- The pacing. The mortal arc might just be a tad bit longer than I expected and of course talking about the last 4-5 episodes that feel so sped up and so many things happened in 1 episode, and then it became slow on the next episode. Well, since I heard that one of the editors passed away, it is understandable.
- The ending!! Like seriously? We are robbed of more lovely moments with our CP!
- Orchid's voice and character might be annoying, but if you could pass through it, then you will be rewarded with a very great story. I sincerely didn't feel that annoyed because I've seen this kind of character before, so I am used to it.

Overall, it is not perfect but it is one of the best xianxia ever. You will be changed. Go watch it! I sincerely regret why I didn't watch the show earlier, and never judge a show by its posters!

A Mesmerizing Fantasy With Unmatched Chemistry

If there’s one thing that makes Love Between Fairy and Devil truly unforgettable, it’s the chemistry between the leads. Honestly, the connection between the main actors is nothing short of spectacular. From their very first interaction to the most emotional moments, the energy between them feels natural, powerful, and absolutely captivating. It’s not just on-screen; their synergy radiates beyond the drama, making every scene feel alive.

The story itself is brilliantly crafted. It’s a fantasy tale with depth, full of twists and emotional arcs that keep you engaged from beginning to end. The plot is well-developed and balanced, blending romance, humor, and drama seamlessly.

Visually, the drama is a masterpiece. The sets and landscapes are breathtaking—epic, magical, and immersive. Every frame feels like a painting, adding to the grandeur of the story.

The performances by both leads are exceptional. The female lead brings grace and strength to her character, while the male lead delivers intensity and depth that elevate every scene. Their acting, combined with that electric chemistry, is truly the soul of the drama.

The soundtrack is another highlight—emotional, enchanting, and perfectly matched to the tone of each moment. It adds an extra layer of magic to an already mesmerizing experience.

If I had one critique, it would be the ending. While satisfying, it could have given us more—perhaps showing their wedding or a deeper glimpse into their happily ever after. That would have made the conclusion as grand as the journey itself.

Overall, Love Between Fairy and Devil is a beautifully constructed drama, carried by phenomenal acting, stunning visuals, an immersive story, and, above all, a chemistry that’s second to none.
