Love Between Fairy and Devil is a real hit. Normally, when the guy reappears at the end claiming to be reincarnated it annoys me to see just him popping out with no real explanation whatsoever. But this time, it somehow was enjoyable. When Orchid is reborn as Xi Yun, but still remembers her love for DFQC and activated the Glazed Fire in him while possessed, and in the end had to kill him to eliminate Tai Sui, I cried. I don't cry a lot in daily life, but to go through with the story of Orchid and DFQC till the very end, is must. Basically all in all, must watch for anyone who hasn't yet. Yu Shuxin (Esther) and Wang Hedi (Dylan) did a fantastic job on this one.

SECOND WATCH REVIEW (never wrote a review on first watch, it was one of the first c dramas i had watched back then)

This show is very much a cutie-patootie. Dylan Wang really plays Dongfang Qing Cang so well. And his acting is really showcased when he “switches bodies” with Orchid. His mannerisms and demeanor completely change, you really forget it’s an actor just acting.

That said, Esther also played Orchid pretty well. I just think I’ve watched too many shows with her in a row that I actually kinda hate the personality she always seems to play. Not quite dumb but also not that smart, always bubbly and cute with a splash of dramatized innocence. I did appreciate the complexity of Orchid’s character as the show goes on.

Most importantly, their romance WORKS. Dongfang Qing Cang is cynical and broken, Orchid is optimistic and determined. While it was “enemies to lovers”, it also wasn’t. Orchid doesn’t see him as an enemy beyond the logistical reality of his Moon Tribe background. It’s also warming how her gift of life revives his emotion tree from day one. He is domineering and bossy, but clearly trying to resist falling in love. It was too cute to watch. I think in this way that we are actively watching them fall in love with each other for their *core* personalities and quirks, you root for them despite the odds and cliches.

Shang Que was a cute loyal dragon sidekick ready to support Dongfang Qing Cang always and then Orchid and of course Jie Li. His and Jie Li’s romance was cute. I wish it was *explored* a tad more but overall it does work. I like that the fierce dragon is the “dummy in love” while Jie Li is the cunning orphan. It’s basically a gender-bent version of the main couple on a smaller scale.

Rong Hao was pretty annoying. I get that he was basically possessed but I wanted to throw my screen across the room every time he talked about saving Chi Di Nu Zi. I will say the scenes with him and her were pretty poignant and I like that it was more maternal/familiar love than romantic. Their ending was sad but very fitting and satisfying. The only thing (due to translations I feel) I’m not sure I understand is why Rong Hao was so surprised about her “mortal desire” being caring for him. I guess he didn’t realize she literally brought him back to life…pretty quid pro quo resurrecting that happens between them.

Chang Heng was great. It’s been a long time since the secondary love interest is *not* bad. I wish there was more of this. He never turns evil, in fact, he persists him being righteous even as his brother the Heavenly Emperor threatens to kill him over and over.

Fairy Dan Yin was also a solid side character. I always love when the “mean girl” becomes friends with the main lead. Like Chang Heng, I wish they could have their own happy romance (not necessarily together but just with a person for each of them).

IDK if it’s because I’ve watched so many more c-dramas so I “get the set up” for these shows now, but the ending wasn’t as bad as I remembered. That said, I do feel like the second half of the show “loses” control of the plot as compared to before the “battle”.

I know in fantasy death is not always permanent but I hate when the logic is inconsistent. I am ALWAYS happy with a HEA, but I still don’t fully understand *how* he came back to life? They claim he has to die for the evil Tu thing to also die. If he’s back, is the evil spirit also alive??? It’s very similar to Love You Seven Times in that you get a “happy ending” but you still feel a little wary because it just doesn’t 100% add up. If Orchid had died instead, would she also have just come back to life lol?

Great fantasy romance drama with complex characters and an engaging storyline

I started watching this drama to fill in the void left by Alchemy of Souls, and fortunately, I was not disappointed. When I first started this drama, I was annoyed with how childish the FML was and wasn’t as invested in the story as I wanted to be. I picked up this drama again after putting it on hold for a while, and I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. The FML’s character growth and the buildup of the main lead’s relationship was done really well. I went from not really liked her character in the first few episodes to loving her halfway through the show. Even the side characters and villains (e.g Changfeng, Black Dragon, Jielei, Xunfeng) were really well developed and had a lot of depth. One thing I did appreciate about this drama that I feel like I haven’t seen much in other romantic dramas is the equal amount of focus on both the FML’s and ML’s character development. I feel like sometimes dramas tend to focus much on only one of the ML/FL storyline to the point where the other character doesn’t get much development, but we don’t see that here. Both Dongfang Qingcang and Xiao Lanhua had very interesting backstories which contributed to their character growth and I think the drama did an excellent job at gradually unveiling them as the story progressed.

If I had a few things to criticize this drama for, one would probably be the lack of development of some of the secondary characters in this show. While Orchid’s development was great, I think I would’ve liked if Jieli had more character growth throughout the show. It feels like the writer’s mainly used to her character as a plot device to move the story forward, although it would’ve been nice to see her change as well especially given her friendship with Orchid and relationship with Shang Que. Not necessarily a huge issue though, (I still liked learning about her backstory plus Danyin’s) the story definitely did get more interesting for me when she was introduced. Speaking of the 2nd leads, they had an interesting dynamic but their romance felt a little forced in my opinion. I was rooting for Jieli to become a better person as the story progressed but I ended up feeling like she did not deserve Shang Que, nor did she deserve Orchid’s friendship. It didn’t necessarily take away from my overall enjoyment of the drama but I was beginning to get annoyed with her scenes towards the end. Another issue for me is the last 4 episodes of the drama. Although the ending wasn’t necessarily a bad ending, it just felt mildly underwhelming and rushed. It felt like most of the drama’s runtime for the last few episodes were spent trying to wrap up the side plots in such a short amount of time to the point where DFQC and Xiao Lanhua barely got enough screen time. I also didn’t really like how their personalities suddenly changed after she reincarnated. The back and forth sacrificial trope got annoying after some point, and honestly I probably would’ve preferred the drama had ended at episode 31 instead of this was how they had planned to wrap up the story. Overall though, this was a solid xianxia drama and I would highly recommend this for anyone trying to get into Xianxia since there is not too many episodes and the plot is simple yet engaging enough for newcomers to follow.

Worth a watch

This drama started off right. It was interesting and fun. There was drama, comedy, and romance all in one. I liked the beginning episodes the most, the middle was okay, but towards the end, it really started to drag and was boring. The ending was also happy but very rushed, short, and unsatisfying.

I liked this drama mainly because the male lead looks so handsome as Dongfang Qingcang. The female lead was easy on the eyes too. I thought the costumes were pretty but the CGI looked cheap and terrible.

I would give the show an 8, I think it's worth watching at least once, the beginning of the story was very good and had alot of potential. Towards the later episodes, it might be better to skip/fast forward.

The OST for this drama was also really good. I enjoyed the theme song alot.

Love and faith will conquer it all!

Wow... That was sweet. It was so funny for earlier episodes, and mixed of it with seriousness gradually. This drama was about love. Love toward your partner and friends that you hv faith in them. Love towards the innocent people that not needed to be sacrifice for wars. Love for your saviour that you went astray for her.

"I don't care if it's real or not, I will only marry the girl I love. For other people, let alone propose, I won't even take another look." - Dongfang QingCang

The ML, Dongfang QingCang or Daqiang, formerly was a coldhearted and ruthless ruler that had been stripped of his emotions for the sake of bringing glory and justice to his tribe. He was feared and respected because of his supreme power and the way he did to get it. He accidentally was released from his captivity thanks to FL. He was also connected to her bcs of it, so he had to be close to her until he finds the mean to end it. Times spent with FL brought a change to him especially after she did something to revive his emotions. He was moved a bit by what she had done for him few times. After he got his emotions back, the loves filled his heart so he only had eyes for her, protective of her ofc and willing to undergo a harsh punishment just to spend time with her. But reality intruded, he still had his mission and he had to hurt her for the sake of saving her life. He was plagued by regret and vowed to bring her peace even at the cost of his life. He was sincere toward her.

"Xunfeng, you love your brother, don't you? Me too. We have to take some responsibilities and pay the price for love. You take your own responsibility. I will take mine." - Xiao Lan Hua.

The FL, Xiao Lan Hua or Xi Yun, Goddess of Xishan, was pure-hearted, bubbly girl that spreaded kindness to everyone she cared for. She had faith in them although they will disappoint her. She might looks delicate and a bit of a fool but she had steel in her and will brave through anything for the one she loved. She was a low-ranking flower fairy in Shuiyuntian and she only hv her master that was close to her because she had no parent and friends. So she had been alone for a long time. She bumped with ML bcs she wanted to save the life of her crush. She misunderstood and thought ML liked her because he stayed close to her after his captivity and willingly did everything to nourish her while ML had other agenda instead. She was moved by his concerns and worried for his life bcs they both came from different tribes and were enemies. She gradually likes him but she didn't realise it yet. She wanted to help ML being more human and she went through a difficult hardship so ML wld not live in misery forever thinking that his father didn't care about him. I love that when she fell in love with ML, she was direct with him about her worries that he will start war again with her tribe and she didn't want more innocent people getting sacrifice because of the war. Communication everyone! I admire her that she wld prove her love and worthiness to be his Queen by going through some harsh punishment that even ML objected to it. Her love to ML was pure that even though at some point it was life-threatening, she wld do it.

To the other important characters: Changheng our 2ndML, You know how to move on and respected FL's decision and I really wish to see you have someone you love too. You deserve it. Same goes to Danyin too, I love her character developments. Our other couple story, the honest Shangque and the heartless Jieli.

I definitely love some of the OSTs in this drama and I love the costumes and sets too.

This was my first Xianxia drama. It should be another one, The Eternal Love of Dream but I paused at the sixth episode. I need time to digest it, their FL umm... Myb this drama helped with the less episodes amount and it also helped that I've seen both FL and ML dramas before. My second drama of Esther Yu after My Journey To You (I love it, hoping for S2 but I wouldn't hold my breath). I didn't expect to see her in this drama tbh bcs she was so different in here. Probably gave the same vibes at the last few episodes. As for Dylan or Wang Hedi, I've seen two dramas of him. One that I absolutely adore and another one, no comment.

I think I might hv to make an exception for this drama. It's so good. I don't know... but I'm usually very particular about my happy ending. This drama ending of ML and FL moments was so short and I understand bcs it was after a long time. After all the suffering and sobbing, I want a happy ending that gives closure to us, the viewers. That means I got to know what happened to everyone that important in the drama after the conflict. I usually would love if I cld see main leads meaning both FL and ML hv their wedding, how their daily lifes wld go and bonus if I get to see their kids. I didn't see the 2 extra clips yet sooo let's see.

Well I hv watched the two extra clips, B for efforts I guess.

The series was at its best with the main couple and how their relationship grew, it felt authentic and enjoyable and I love the transformation of DFQC to wifeguy extraordinaire. Xiao Lanhua was annoying at the beginning, but post-mortal realm she had a lot more depth and even some pretty thought-provoking insights (I'm not even talking about post-Goddess, because vanilla XLH in the arc pre transformation's maturity and willingness to accept responsibility surprised me a lot). This is where I agree that the drama really makes you fall in love with her through DFQC's eyes. She grows on you, until her absence is very much felt. I really appreciate the themes of peace and breaking the cycle of revenge and the very blatant anti-war message. The drama conveyed these ideas very well and with weight. I think the only thing that would've made it better is if Yunzhong Jun actually...faced some kind of repercussions for being a warmongering bastard and just generally an extremely unkind being with the empathy level of a rock. But I suspect that would've been too much for the censorship standards, and well, George Bush never got repercussions for war crimes so I guess it's only realistic Yunzhong Jun doesn't either.

Plot wise everything with the Tai Sui stuff gets sillier and sillier until you're just like lollll at the end. Whatever intricacies Ronghao followed to not only resurrect Chidi but also fuck it up spectacularly are kind of muddled and run on shaky internal logic. I also thought Changheng overstayed his welcome sometimes, as did Jie Li. Danyin, Xun Feng and Shang Que are great; I'm glad Danyin got to be her own character, and I'm predictable but the family drama with Xun Feng and their father is the part that made me most emotional. It made me cry a couple times, which is the base line of an enjoyable cdrama imo.

Effects and production wise this unfortunately was kind of a reminder as to why I usually avoid Xianxia dramas. It has some great elements and characters, but that doesn't change the fact that I just don't tend to enjoy the stylistic and trope choices of the genre, and watching the fight scenes that consist of two guys pointing CGI laser beams at each other didn't really help. You can tell where they used up the budget and where they didn't, because the backdrops and main characters' costumes tend to look great, the animated opening is one of the most gorgeous things I've ever seen in a cdrama, and then you get to some of the gods' costume and crown pieces and it's like a piece of plastic. And yeah, I know it's not super fair to pick on a silly little drama for its visual effects, but I also wouldn't do it if xianxia dramas didn't rely so much on it. I would even accept poor effects if they were even a little more creative about it, instead of just having a stream of little light.

Overall a pretty okay way to pass the time, but wasn't the It drama for me like it was for so many others. Which is totally okay. Not its fault, I just prefer my dramas a little weightier.

Beautiful story, & amazing chemistry of not just the lead stars, but all characters in general!

Writing this review while watching the drama again for the 1000th time! Not gonna lie, I was hesitant to watch it at first, then as the show progressed, it made me more interested & invested in the story. What a beautiful love these 2 leads have! They fell in love not because one was forced to, but because they actually spent time with each other, until the love naturally bloomed! Aside from the fact that they are "connected", which made a big impact on their relationship as well.

I like that this drama has no obsessed third party characters & not 60++++ episode long. The God of war who was FL's other supposed love interest, even became Moon Supreme's friend! I admire FL's love for our ML. **spoiler - That EPIC scene at the desert where she was about to sacrifice herself & reminiscing her master's words about love definitely got to me! Their scenes together would always give you heart a flutter.

Dylan Wang's acting here is a plus. His acting range definitely improved since his meteor garden days. His crying scenes are superb. You can feel his pain & cry with him. Even the swapping bodies scene was amazingly made! Give this drama a chance, & I assure you, you won't regret watching it. Yes, of course every review is an opinion of its own, & I understand some might not like it. But for those looking for something new & different to watch, this is it for you. =)

A great journey

This one had a rough start but it gradually grew on me.

The female lead's baby voice and naivete really grated on me in the first ten or so episodes, and I'm pretty mixed on the stretch of episodes on the middle which takes place in the mortal world too, since everything — from the settings to the characters — just feels so different. The body swap trope is not one I'm a big fan of and it doesn't really add much to the story aside from providing comic relief and showcasing acting chops.

However, after finishing the show though, and seeing everything fall into place, I can confidently say that I ultimately did enjoy this drama. The pacing is really well done, and I liked the development that the characters go through. The female lead becomes really fun and strong (and significantly less air-headed), and the romantic chemistry is great. The final battle is really climactic, and I think overall it was just a good time.

good acting, great production, average story

Lets begin with what i liked and the characters.

I liked the MLs character the most. Strong, dark, ruthless and fearsome who doesn't lose his dignity, glory, power and influence for a girl yet was pitiful. His character is consistently strong throughout and never lost his spine just to become a weak shadow of his former self. He was charming and his dark side was even hotter. The way he protected the fl every time was so sweet, even though he had his agenda. Overall i loved dfqc from start till end. At first her constant whining to go back to fairy realm even after how she was treated there really bothered me, and i hated how she treated dfqc with hypocrisy even after he did so much for her, and all she did was create troubles for him, though i did understand her feelings for Chang heng, her first crush, a hero that all girls love. She was really weak and her being overly kind to everyone, every time isn't that amazing either, she was spineless mostly, maybe it's just my preference for strong FLs which she wasn't. But i did like how self aware, brave, persistent and determined and at times a little witty she was and she wasn't insecure about her weakness. The first time they swapped bodies was so funny.  She was overall a weak little girl with a big heart, too kind, ignorant and innocent and not the most likeable person, and i felt like slapping the hell out of her uncountable times for the first 16 eps. Later on i realized that xi yun was just supposed to be the epitome of kindness and benevolence and purity so she was always sacrificed so i accepted it. Chidi and xiyun were literally lambs to the slaughter, whatever happens they always took the worst hit, i felt bad for both. The first time they swapped bodies was so funny. Jieli was annoying and manipulative throughout and she was one of my least liked characters. Poor shangque. I rather liked Danyin, she grew on me as the story progressed. Rong hao was so evil and hypocritical and he was like a cockroach, never dying, well the so called heavenly king was a bigger hypocritical bastard, why didn't this dirtbag get punished again?

But there was plot development for almost every main character. The story was great too. Cast did a good job with strong performance.
Dylan Wang's acting surprised me here. He did it so damn well. The stupid weak behaviour of the girl, the devilish, cruel, cold and arrogant moon supreme, he did them both smoothly. This isn't what i expected after miss the dragon where i saw him first. This was my first time watching esher yu, and as annoying xiao lan hua with her weak and innocent character was, she did well as xi yun which i did not expect. i admit i had issues with her constant whiny voice and childish acting tho, her voice stung my ears and always behaving like a child was outright annoying, she is better in somber roles like xi yun and for the few seconds she was dfqc.. xu haiqiao as always played the bad guy. I like cristy guo every time she plays a good role, but she again didn't teach her disciple well and he fell for her again and did evil.. bad shifu. But tbh even though i dig master disciple romances, rong hao and chidi felt so wrong to me and it has nothing to do with female teacher male disciple, but the fact that she RAISED him from a child. She was more like a mother to him and not what was portrayed.

Loved the ost, cgi and overall production. Though sometimes the costumes of Chang heng and DFQC were too dramatic and new designs in cdramaland and i am not used to them, didn't really like them much either. Cgi was exquisite. The opening and ending murals were stunning. Glad that the fl got beautiful costumes unlike in most cdramas. Overall i liked it very much and would suggest watching it.

FANTASTIC!

For me, this TV show was fantastic on every level.Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms (Eternal Love) has been my all time favorite for years....until Love Between Fairy and Devil.
The acting was surprisingly top notch as were the costumes, photography, special effects and just about everything else! My only dissapointment was that this show had to end. I think the ending was too rushed. This drama deserves a sequel, but only if its as good as the original!
So if you are looking for your next xainxia show...this is it!

Unexpectedly good

I went without any expectations and it was so good. I wasn't a fan of any of the main leads or second leads, I actually couldn't finish watching moonlight because I find her voice a bit annoying and I already had bad impression of Wang Hedi from another drama. I was neutral about Zhang linghe because I haven't watch any of his dramas before. Yeah I had little to zero expectations starting this. And I have to say perfect casting.

Things I like :
1) story itself. It's a really good story, really good script. Nothing was what I expected from usual xianxias.
2) perfect casting. I think Esther and Dylan had amazing chemistry and everything felt natural. Whatever bad impression I had before I blamed it on directors/scripts of those dramas because these two can act and are very good. Definitely looking forward to more dramas from them. Especially Dylan. His portrayal of Dongfang qingcang were mind blowing.
3) the music. The moment I finished the series I have been listening to the ost nonstop because it's just that good
4) fav characters. Apart from Dongfang qingcang, I really like fairy Danyin.
5) visuals.

Things I don't like : not much actually. The only boring part was when they were in mortal realms. And I didn't really care much about supporting roles love story. So I did ended up fast forwarding them.
