This drama is frustrating!!!!

Overall this drama is actually really good. But the FL characters really frustrate me. ML is VERY VERY VERY GOOD, even though he's a little tsundere, but, hey! can't FL see all the good in ML?!? She always make things difficult. I know FL is very supportive of her clan, but, hey! you can't corner ML because of this!! FL characters who always frustrate me throughout the drama. Like, FL doesn't deserve people as good as ML, let alone someone like me 🤣🤣
Another part that frustrates me is that FL trusts her clan more than ML. Come on, can't you see everything that ML done for FL?!? okay, let's just say FL never interacts with strangers, therefore she is very innocent. But, do you trust people you don't really know much more than people who are always beside you, protect you, and are very good to you?! I know they are in the same clan, but hey, you never interact with them much!!!
As long as I watch this, I always say to FL: "if you do that, I will hate you!!", but I keep watching this because my beloved, tsundere ML💕

OST, STORY PLOT, CASTING SOLID 10/10

this was my FIRST cdrama that i watched in my teenage years (i used to watch cdramas with my grandparents when i was younger but stopped as I went to pursue watching kdrama instead) I started watching cdramas again because I wanted to improve my chinese and i gave up kdrama since i dont even understand korean. I really loved the chemistry between fl and ml! acting of both main leads made me watch more of their dramas and expanded my love for cdramas!! I rewatched this twice already :)) OST was so good i literally replayed the song: 决爱 and 余情 a lot

Loving someone is never easy yet always fruitful

What is love? What is evil (kinda like Untamed)? these were the 2 major themes in the show

First of all, it is a very modern xianxia and obviously I see that the writers have learned from the mistakes of past xianxia. I loved how there were NO MISUNDERSTANDINGS between the main leads as they just shouted everything out at each other or somehow figured it out lol. I also like how sufferings and sacrifices were not just made my the male lead (like Xu Feng in AOL and Si Feng in LAR), and instead our leads were connected to feel each other's pain and joy.

I also LOVED THE OSTs!! The opening song made me cry every time it was played and of course we had a song from Liu Yuning. Literally every drama with a Liu Yuning OST is my favorite (Long Ballad, LAR, You are my Glory, Who rules the world...).

Finally though, I have to admit the ending felt a bit rushed. I am not a huge fan of SUPER long xianxia shows (like AOL seriously did not need 63 episodes) but 36 episodes were not enough for the ending story. The pacing till later episodes was great, really pleasing, but I honestly feel like the evil spirit thing in the end was unnecessary. (PS: I kept mixing up hellfire with glass from Ashes of love and hellfire later became glazed fire which is glass fire which also is samadhi fire 😂😆)

Overall, I really really enjoyed watching this. I love Esther from Moonlight and of course Dylan from F4.

Though doesn’t really like the ML, but she did her part good. And both chemistry was mind blowing. Dylan Wang crying scenes…omg. I’m crying like a river. His aura were strong and give me goosebumps for real. Had to repeat some scenes because it was gooood. His funny side while body swap . Hahahahha funny like hell. And of course the kissing, hmmmm I get butterflies. New fans immediately. Was a long time I 100% felt deeper into Cdrama since Love & Destiny. Binged in 3 days . Had to find next drama…

top-tier show!!

Tried watching this last year and dropped it by episode 4 because I couldn’t take the CGI seriously. I’m glad I got around to picking it up and trying it again this year.

The universe is huge. The story has so many layers to it and so required much building up. There were lots of things to cover and yet there were little to no plotholes at all. They started something and made sure to keep it up to the end. Though I guess there were some loose ends for me that I wish had more closure and explanation. I think Chinese dramas could do a little bit better with their minor characters arcs (or maybe it’s the subtitles that lacked better translation).

I love that everything had significance which unfolded beautifully by the end. My eyes were glued to the screen the entire time; I couldn’t even pick up my phone because I was just too engrossed. The story was fairly consistent to what they started and I’m so amazed by how they achieved this somewhat ambitious feat. The writing and acting were amazing (more so during their body switching!!), but I guess my only negative comment about it is the CGI. Hands down a top-tier show still though

Best xianxia I've watch so far

Didn't expect anything from this one since the leads aren't that popular and I have a little bad Impression of Dylan at acting but I was so shocked with the quality. From stunning visuals, effects, costume, character depth, it was so good. Acting is also not bad. I just want more brother scenes with dongfang and his brother plus more scenes with the two long lost sisters and Yu Shuxin being DongFang.. Not a fan of cute childiah character so it took me a while to love the drama.
Ending felt quite rushed but it's okay.

Ost was super super super good. I keep replaying Farewell Love.

I AM UNWELL! Love Between Fairy and Devil is the Best Thing I’ve Ever Watched! ???

This drama destroyed me in the best way possible! 😭 I’m giving Love Between Fairy and Devil a massive 10/10 because it is absolute PERFECTION. If you haven’t watched it yet, what are you doing with your life?!

Let’s talk about Dongfang Qing Cang. He is the definition of the villain we love—the "Moon Supreme" who became an "emotionless monster" just to gain immense power, even going as far as killing his own father. He literally leads "100,000 Moon Tribe soldiers" on a path of destruction. He is terrifying, powerful, and I am obsessed. 😍

Then you have Orchid, this tiny "weak flower fairy" who accidentally disturbs the matrix and meets him in the tower after 30,000 years. The contrast between them is EVERYTHING! 💖 Watching an emotionless warlord slowly soften for a clumsy fairy is the single most satisfying trope in existence.

The chemistry is off the charts! 📈 Their meeting triggers events that "threaten the world's fate", and the stakes feel so high and epic. The visuals? Stunning. The OST? On repeat. The romance? Soul-crushing (in a good way). This adaptation of Jiu Lu Fei Xiang’s novel is a masterpiece. RUN, don't walk, to watch this! 🏃‍♀️💨✨

No Wonder It's a Cult Classic!

Just like its title, Love Between Fairy and Devil follows the story of a weak flower fairy named Orchid, who accidentally entered the Haotian Matrix where she encountered the infamous Moon Supreme, Dongfang Qing Cang. Legend says he became an emotionless monster in order to wield the great power of the hellfire and take control of the Moon Tribe as the Moon Supreme. As Orchid and Dongfang Qing Cang spend time and work together, fire melts and love sprouts teaching them what it means to sacrifice for love.

Love Between Fairy and Devil was the first Xianxia drama that I was able to be fully engrossed in and finish without ever forcing myself to do so. Before this, I had no interest in Xianxia dramas due to its profound fantasy qualities and thought it was hard to digest. I did give it a try once but found myself cringing so hard and was unable to continue watching that previous drama. After being recommended and seeing the many compliments this drama has, I decided to give it a try and ended up watching this in one sitting.

This drama adopts the popular "enemies to lovers", "I changed you", and "he fell first, he fell harder" tropes, blended with imaginative and fantastical qualities of magic, immortality, and the realm of Gods, fairies, and spirits. Despite the depth of the story, this drama remains easy and entertaining to watch making you blush and absorbed to see how it all unfolds. Although there were some logic gaps, this show did a great job at balancing its sillier bits with its more heartfelt core.

As a naive, kindhearted, and compassionate flower fairy, Orchid has always been nice to everyone including Dongfang Qing Cang, whom at first she thought was just a regular prisoner. Due to their unintentional connection, the emotionless Dongfang Qing Cang was able feel emotions through the expressive Orchid. This was a dilemma for Dongfang Qing Cang in the beginning as he would love to get rid of Orchid yet couldn't because of their connection. To prevent Orchid from having emotional outbursts, the cold Dongfang Qing Cang would try everything he can to make Orchid happy like cooking for her, comforting her, even helping her win the tournament that will supposedly get her closer to Chang Heng, all so she could be happy. This was especially cute considering the Moon Supreme's cold and emotionless exterior, and how he learns to be soft for Orchid (and himself). Not to mention, since he also feels pain whenever Orchid gets hurt, Dongfang Qing Cang also protects Orchid from any danger she was in. Although he meant it menacingly, the way he protected her paired with his unwavering gaze, makes Orchid thinks he likes her. Despite initially feeling annoyed and his attempts to sever their connection, he grew to like how those emotions feel and enjoyed Orchid's presence. It's funny to see how Dongfang Qing Cang is this powerful, dark, evil lord yet Orchid treats him casually like some puppy.

The good things doesn't stop there! As someone who gets exhausted over body swapping plots, I was worried about the presence of that plot in this drama. Fortunately, the body swap antics always ended just before I started to get anxious and weary. This was definitely one of the reasons why I like this drama! The character development in this drama was also well-written. From the start, we can see how Dongfang Qing Cang's character went from being this arrogant, regal, and unfeeling Moon Supreme, who eventually warms up and learns compassion. Orchid was also well-written as a selfless, cheerful, kindhearted, and rather dim fairy who was able to care for everyone, even those who wronged her. She never feared Dongfang Qing Cang, even after knowing his real identity. Orchid's personality remain constant throughout the drama. The way she treats and softens the cold Moon Supreme was definitely something to anticipate when watching this drama. It was also interesting to see how her thoughts and decisions matures after falling in love with Dongfang Qing Cang.

Casting Dylan Wang and Esther Yu for the roles of Dongfang Qing Cang and Orchid, respectively, was the right decision. Dylan Wang exudes the charisma and demeanor befitting for the role of the infamous Moon Supreme. His sharp facial features imposes the cold aloof of Dongfang Qing Cang's character. He did a great job with his cold expressions, deep gaze, and soft smirks, which made his character appealing even as a supposedly ruthless lord who wouldn't think twice about killing. That is not to say that he is only good with his cold expressions and aloof demeanor, but he also did a great job at showing the softer qualities as well. His puppy eyes were scene stealers when he started to fall in love and also when he body swapped with Orchid. It was almost comical to see how this emotionless lord would pull a 180 and turn into this, almost like, stray puppy.

Esther Yu was also magnificent as Orchid. Not only was she awfully cute but she was great at portraying the dim, cheerful, selfless, and compassionate fairy Orchid. Her cuteness comes off natural and not forced. On top of that, her visuals were befitting for the role of Orchid. Her cheeks imposes a soft and friendly allure to her character, and her eyes and lips were almost doll-like, perfect for the role of fairies. Not to mention her voice. The high pitched tone was just enough to support her role as our cute and dim fairy Orchid without coming off as too annoying. Aside from her portrayal as Orchid, she also did a great job with her character transformation in the later parts of the drama where she exudes charisma, elegance, maturity, restraint, and poise, which is a contrast to her personality as Orchid.

Aside from the two main characters, they also did well with the casting of the other characters. Zhang Linghe definitely caught my eye whenever he's on screen. His charisma as Chang Heng was overflowing and his mischievousness as Xiao Run was also fascinating! No wonder he started to make his breakthrough after this. In addition to the great casting, this drama was also well-produced with its beautiful set, CGIs, and most importantly, iconic OST.

The set or CGI in this drama was beautiful and dreamy, befitting for a drama filled with Gods, fairies, spirits, and devils. Although there are some parts that I think could have been done better in terms of CGI, it was enough to say that everything felt almost natural and not cringey. The costumes and hairstyle were 50/50. They definitely did a great job with the fairies costume and hairstyle, as well as Dongfang Qing Cang's. However, I wish they could have done Chang Heng's outfit better. I also find Dongfang Xun Feng's hairstyle funny so that is something worth changing. Although it was not perfect, I do think that the overall look and visuals of this drama was iconic and beautiful enough for me to compliment it. Now, I have to give an honorary mention to the OSTs, particularly Farewell Love by Faye. I've heard it a lot of times in social media platforms and it wasn't until I watch this drama that I realize that song is an OST for Love Between Fairy and Devil.

In conclusion, this drama easily made it to the top of my recommended list for Xianxia dramas. It is a drama that will introduce you to the world of Xianxia genre. Despite the depth of the story and theme, Love Between Fairy and Devil is a Xianxia drama that is easy to digest and entertaining to watch. The plot was not draggy and they did a great job at blending its sillier bits with its more heartfelt core, leaving you a lasting impact!

Epic Love Story with a Healthy Dose of Angst and Humor

When starting this series I thought, it would be mostly cliches and contrived plot lines. Though there was a little bit of that, you can’t have a romance drama without cliches, but the story worked so well that these instances were barely noticeable.

The series spent a lot of time focused on building the connection between Dongfang and Orchid, which set up a great foundation for their relationship evolving into love later in the series. Though Dongfang was brooding and morose, and on a mission of great importance, he couldn’t help but to become captivated by Orchid’s kind and cheerful energy.

The “mundane” of the everyday with he and Orchid of just chatting over a drink/meal to conflicts over everything from the history of the battle between Shuiyuntian and Canyan Sea, to eating breakfast, to the laziness that is sleeping in, made it fun to experience their world. Most especially when they were living at Arbiter Hall.

Moreover, Dongfang’s immersion in his hate for the fairies, which was fueling his most powerful magic (the hell fire), yet desire to feel, to love, to be with Orchid who was everything he should hate, was compelling to watch. As was Orchid’s metamorphosis from fun, yet immature girl, to a mature (yet still cheerful and light) and strong woman was also interesting. When Dongfang finally let go, allowing himself to embrace his love for her, he loved with intensity and a depth that was swoon worthy, and Orchid, despite her lightheartedness, matched that love with her own deep devotion and intensity.

The love story in this was epic because these two were are all in with their love for each other, even before they realized they were in love. And being all in meant they did some pretty extraordinary things for each other. Dongfang’s strength was incredible to watch. He went through it, constantly sacrificing, constantly enduring physical and mental angst, but always remained mentally strong.

The B and C stories, had good writing and tied in well with the main plot. I could not stand Lord Hao. His brand of love was the other extreme, which was obsession, an obsession that could have destroyed all three realms, but despite this I understood what drove his actions. Though the fairies were supposed to be the good guys, their community seemed to mostly be filled with bullies, hypocrites and intolerant a******. Orchid and Lord Changheng seemed to be the only truly good people in the community.

The series was well-written, but there were a couple of plot holes, sometimes the Xiyan curse only worked when convenient. Why did Lady Chidi end up in the mortal world after she sacrificed herself to save the fairies? Was that because she violated the rules a fate by saving Lord Hao from death? Did the thousands of years of warring between the Moon Tribe and the Fairies really start over someone getting dumped? Basically someone from the Moon Tribe getting dumped by a fairy? Crazy. SMH.

Really enjoyed all the relationships in this. They all had some complexity and thus were interesting and developed in a direction which was unexpected. I would’ve liked to have seen more of the Moon Tribe and it’s culture. Some intriguing things were revealed but not much time was spent on those things due to the story having to move forward.

The CGI in this was excellent as was the acting. Dylan Wang as Dongfang was the stand out though. The complexity of this character could’ve been lost on a lesser actor, but I think he handled it like a pro. Yu Shuxin was good as well, but she struggled, just a little, with some of the big emotional moments.

I thought the last 3-4 episodes dragged, I was not feeling Orchid pretending to have no memory of her previously life. Moreover there was too much time spent on Danyi’s family drama and Lord Hao living in a fantasy with Lady Chidi. It was painful to watch him living in a lie with her while she gradually became a soulless monster. I know that wasn’t the story but I would’ve liked to have seen Dongfang and Orchid deciding together to work to destroy Tai Sui, instead of secretly doing their own thing. I also really would’ve liked to have seen more of their reunion at the end. Perhaps them finally getting married or a fast forward to hundreds of years in the future with them living happily, but oh well.

Despite some of my qualms, I enjoyed this series immensely. It’s definitely worth the time to watch. It will be one I will rewatch often in the future.

Le Sigh Part 2 - The Power of Love

Rated= 4.5~ 21.5/50 ~ 4.3
RPG Scene // Troll stalking me through the Mountain Pass. Not sure the short sword is enough.

My original review 27th April 24 -

Le Sigh

I really, really wanted to like this but I just couldn't get into it. I tried 3 times but my brain just won't let me accept a romantic relationship with a lead who basically acts like a child. If it was meant to be friendship I'd be fine but I'm expecting romance from a character who is basically a 5 year old in an adult body and I just can't move past that. Also, the harem of fairies. Oh please. My first, 2 months now as of writing this, adventure into chinese dramas, I'm starting to see a pattern of shows that just aren't for me.

Visually, this show is stunning. A lot of green screen LOL The sets are glorious. It even just looks like a chinese fantasy. Palaces floating in the sky. Ornate head pieces etc The opening credits were actually my favourite thing LOL the artwork had my mouth open and I think that's why I just really wanted to like this.

It's one of those shows, I think this is my 3rd one now, where everything looks so grand but I just don't like the characters. This time I at least liked the ML but that was it. You can't force yourself to watch a show that you're just bored to tears watching. It's like a christmas cookie. All visual, no flavour.

My updated review on 15th June 24

I wrote the above review after I had initially dropped the show but because I can't write two reviews, and people had like the previous review, I just had to delete and write this instead.

At the time, I was fairly new to c-dramas in general so I was just going on instinct at the time. I have now, thanks to Immortal Samsara, have learned that Xianxia's spend a lot of time laying out groundwork for the world building and characters before they give you the plot, which seems to be happening around episode 7 or 8. I dropped this show in the first minute or 2 of episode 8 and realised that I had probably dropped this minutes before the plot arrived. So out of curiosity, I went back to it, and if I had kept watching for another 5 or 10 minutes, I'd have seen the FL's bully get a glorious smackdown LOL
And I was right. The plot arrived with that event.

So I said, ok, I will give this one more chance. For the most part, my original review still stands. It was like Harry Potter all over again. The logical part of my brain can see why this is popular. It looks good, the characters, most of them redeem themselves, really love that Danyin's conclusion, that's awesome. It's a pretty cohesive plot through out, no major plot holes, all the characters had legit reasons, even if it was just obsession and had a really sweet message under it all.

But I just didn't like it. There was a cog in brain refusing to move and unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about that. I just didn't like. It was boring. I think it was around episode 20 when I really started to skipped scenes. I just wanted it to end.

Like I said in my first review, the ML made this show for me. He was the only one I was interested in. I love an anti-hero and to be honest, even as a villain, I loved him, he was hilarious. Everyone else who might have had a reason to stand out to me just faded into the background as the plot hooked them up in a side pairing I didn't care about.
That dragon. My man. How they wronged you by dampening down your potential.
And once again with Xianxia Immortals, the Emperor is the biggest A*hole and everyone is so self righteous without logic they make me support the villains.

My original rating was -
story -3 moved to a 7. I don't think the writing was too bad. It flowed well, it was understandable, the characters had their reasons and the narrative was very plain and simple - the power of love and obsession, and what it does to us.

Acting- went from 2- 6, this all because of Dylan Wang's portrayal of the ML. That's literally, he was the only reason I managed to finish the show. This was the Moon Supreme show for me. He gave good passionate kisses. I appreciate that for a chinese show that seemed to be scared of showing any lip movement whatsoever.

Music- 2-3 -Not much change to the music, I didn't really care for it and found it a little intrusive and loud over romantic scenes.

My rewatch remains the same though, at 1. I am unlikely to watch this again.

Overall, I can only give this one extra point simply because I loved the ML character. Everyone else, meh. I just didn't care.

My opinion

This drama really pulled at my heart strings. It had me in a chokehold the entire time I was watching it. I don't think I've ever seen a drama that makes me feel the emotions with the characters. I mean I have but not like this one did. The only other drama that had me feeling like this one did was Tail of the Nine-Tailed. Dylan Wang sometimes had me questioning whether or not he was the good guy. Zhang Linghe really had me crying for him sometimes too. The fact that at times both Dongfang Qingcang and Chang Heng were both in love with Orchid also made me sad only one could have her

"She has left traces all over the sea of my heart."

CLJ is the first xianxia drama that I watched and followed through. Tbh, the first episodes were hard to get into along with the annoying voice of the female lead. But when things started to get escalated in ep 9, I found it very intriguing and I couldn't stop watching. The forbidden love trope wrapped in war problems and myths was so fun. I was happy and sad for the leads throughout the series. And the annoying voice of the female lead finally made sense to me because she was supposed to be that way, naive and young. The only downside was the episodes in the mortal world were kinda draggy and the resolution in the end felt kinda rushed. I liked how in the last few episodes, the story between DFQC XLH mirrored with Ronghao and his master, the only difference was, DFQC was surrounded by love and Ronghao was blinded by obsession. It was a nice touch. Wang Hedi gave an immense performance as DFQC, I could feel his pain, his hatred, his frustration and his happiness. Yu Shuxin also potrayed XLH really well and their chemistry was on fire. The Cinematography and the CGIs were very pretty and the OSTs were really good and matched the scenes. Overall, a very enjoyable ride for me.
