Best Xianxia Drama of 2022

I don't usually write reviews for the dramas I watch, but LBFAD just deserves the praise and recognition. I have a hard time getting into xianxia dramas, and I usually end up dropping them halfway. So far, the only exceptions I have to this are Ashes of Love, TMOPB, and now, LBFAD. Esther and Dylan portrayed XLH and DFQC perfectly. Their chemistry is off the charts and their acting in the emotional scenes were done really well. LBFAD is a really enjoyable, lighthearted watch especially for the first few episodes. The story gets a bit angsty around episode 30 to 34 but is still pretty good. They tied up any loose ends quite nicely in episode 35, but felt that the ending was a bit short. 😢 I was hoping for more sweet moments between the main couple in the end. Aside from the story, the sets and costumes are also very beautiful and the drama OST is so good. I've been playing it nonstop for the past few weeks now. Overall, LBFAD has become one of my favorite shows and is definitely worth a rewatch.

My singular MDL review, because I never review but LBFaD is the best Chinese drama I've watched

I'm not the biggest drama watcher, and my principle is to not rate anything as I'm not a fair critique. But LBFaD was simply such an enjoyable and fun watch that this will likely forever be my only review ever, even if only to show how much I loved the drama. All 10/10 stars for me; any flaw can be looked over and is overall understandable. The only downside for me is a slight pacing issue and choppy feel, which is sadly common in Chinese dramas. I look forward to watch other dramas by the cast!

Glad I watched this!

It's been a long time since I've watched
something this beautiful and gave a review.

I have no words. This was such a beautiful drama. The definition of this drama is literally BEAUTIFUL. The production is crazy. Everything is etheral. The background music is one of the best I've seen. The vfx is beautiful. The only word I can say to this drama is BEAUTIFUL! The relationship between leads is BEAUTIFUL!

Orchid and dongfang cincang are meant to be together. They are magnificent!!❤️ I absolutely love the story and everything really went how it should.

THE ONLY WORD TO DEFINE THIS DRAMA IS ✨️BEAUTIFUL ✨️
Background music is BEAUTIFUL
VFX is BEAUTIFUL
Leads are BEAUTIFUL
Scenery is BEAUTIFUL
Story is BEAUTIFUL
Dialogues are BEAUTIFUL
Everything is BEAUTIFUL

I think it will be really difficult for me to get into other dramas after this. After watching this i need to change the genre because other cdramas may disappoint me.

HOLY SMOKE WHAT A DRAMA

This drama was really amazing and sooooo well done that i binged watched over a weekend!!!

I loved everything about it the leads the costumes the story line the plots the scenery everything that it had i LOVED IT.

Love Between Fairy and Devil is a xianxia drama, which narrates the story of forbidden love between a devil and a fairy., boy did DW pull off the whole Devil look to the highest point, his acting his expressions his costumes everything he did in this drama well worth and possibly more than a 10 . I also love how the drama sets a certain persona and design for each tribe and realm meticulously. For instance, in the fairy realm, the gods use bright and light outfits and headpieces with overexposure to the lighting. The fairy realm has a very heavy element of the Chinese culture, meanwhile, the demon/ moon realm has a hint of medieval elements in its location, outfits and more. The drama team also paid attention to those small actors/extras like the guards, their outfit is not sloppy, it is fitting to the overall persona they set. Such as the moon palace guards has dark and big outfit which looks intricate!

OSTs [10/10] —
One of the best parts of this drama is those musical scores. There is one for every situation ;)

◍ "Parting Love" (诀爱) - Faye Chan (the stunning illustrations we get for this intro song and the voice! I have never skipped this honestly, it turns out to be my favorite song from this drama, everytime it's played for the leads, it adds a special magic to their chemistry)

◍ "The Oath of Canglan" (苍兰契) - Li Changchao (the song for both Dongfang hellfire and orchid's first powers as well. I love how the singer shifts to a different pitch in middle and the upbeat music behind is just my style, my second favorite)

◍ "Loss of Memory" (失忆) - Yu Shuxin
◍ "Looking For You" (寻一个你) - Liu Yuning
◍ "Shore" (彼岸) - Jing Long & Jing Di
◍ "Longing" (念) - Shuang Sheng
◍ "I Still Remember That Day" (我还记得那天) - Shen Yi Cheng
◍ "I Want To Be With You" (想和你) - Yu Shuxin & Dylan Wang
◍ "Remaining Love" (余情) - Zhou Shen (smoothly ending every episode with his angelic voice)

The Visuals were amazing and set the tone of each episode or character that was been played at the time every realm is uniquely detailed and fleshed out, from makeup to forms of magic used to costumes, interior design, architecture, and customs.

Overall: This drama well worth watching if not for DW but for the story in itself ... Think i will do go a rewatch, as i have not come across any other of this type to grab me so..

Best Xianxia drama of the last t years

I am not good with words. So sometimes saying little is best. I am not exaggerating by saying is the best drama in it's genre for a while. The time spent for the cinematography is well spent, the actors went above and beyond, I think the best roles they have done in all their careers. Anyway it is a drama worth watching and re-watching. The story is really well written and it is perfectly told in it's length.

Anyway I wish that Esther and Dylan do another drama together their chemistry was off the charts and its been a while since I saw a couple so comfortable with each other.

must watch xianxia

wow, i really don' t know why i delayed watching this show for such a long time.
i used to think it was maybe really overhyped, but now that i have watched the entire thing i know for a fact the reason why it's still constantly talked about, extremely liked, and has thousands of fans all over.
it's a beautifully told love story that almost has the feel of a grecian tragedy in the ancient times. while watching, speaking from my experience, i really couldn't help but feel for all the characters.
everything about this show was beautifully written by the writers AND beautifully acted out by the actors.
forbidden love lore written SO good i had to take little breaks while watching and just take a little lap around my room.
i really have a LOT to say but feel like i almost shouldn't, because this show is truly something that should be experienced by the person watching, first hand.
10/10

Kicking Myself For Putting It Off For So Long

Love Between Fairy and Devil really had everything: stunning visuals, layered characters, angst, yearning, romance, and even morally questionable choices that kept things interesting, a sweet FL that didn't annoy me, who was naive but believable and a ML who was toxic at times but felt real enough that I didn't have to force myself to like him, the plot did it for me.

I had put this show off for a long time because like I said, I expected the female lead to be overly sweet (and borderline annoying) and the male lead to lean too far into toxic tropes. To some extent, those elements are kinda there, but the way they’re written, performed, and framed through the dialogue and cinematography made them feel much more grounded and emotionally authentic that it didn't bother me and actually added to the experience. I can't imagine the characters being any other way. Kudos to the writer and the director because I can really tell that a lot of care went into making this show.

The female lead, Little Orchid, was a pleasant surprise, sweet and somewhat naive, but in a way that felt believable rather than frustrating. I was initially scared because I'm very familiar with Yu Shuxin's acting and her portrayal of characters but honestly? This character was made for her and she really brought Little Orchid to life. The FL's decisions always made sense within the context of her character and her past, which made it easy to stay invested in her journey. Even though I'm not a big fan of overly sweet and innocent characters, Little Orchid wasn't actually JUST that, she had a lot of depth and heart which made me connect to her character. Shuxin also brough out something very different for the last quarter of the show that really made the show way more interesting anf I personally thought she pulled it off well. I can't say anymore because it would be a spoiler, please watch it.

I also didn’t think Little Orchid was “stupid,” which was a criticism I often saw. She was kind-hearted, pure, and brave, someone who understood the risks of her actions and chose to take them anyway. I think there’s an important distinction there. She didn't jump into danger without thinking it through and expected others to magically solve her problems, she just grew up with a very low sense of self worth due to her low station within the society and is very sacrificing by nature which formed her actions and her reasonings. While I usually gravitate toward more cunning, strategy-driven female leads, Xiao Lan Hua(Little Orchid) stayed completely true to who she was: a loving, courageous little orchid with a giant heart.

For the male lead, Dongfang Qingcang, I especially loved his character development. Even though his name is GENUINELY a mouthful, watching his arc unfold was one of the strongest parts of the show. His actions all throughout the show through various changes he experienced really resonated with his character and rarely felt out of place. I also think Wang Hedi did a really great job with this character and I almost couldn't tell he was dubbed. The dubber and the character worked so well together.

The show also LOOKED really good overall. Visually, the CGI was impressive, the sets were beautifully designed, and the costumes added so much to the overall atmosphere. With cdramas, the sets and CGI can really make or break a good concept (iykyk) and for a fantastical show you really need that good production quality. I think Love Between Fairy and Devil really brought that.

Overall, this was a beautiful and emotionally engaging watch. Wang Hedi and Yu Shuxin both delivered strong performances and brought a lot of emotional depth to their roles.

My only real complaint is how rushed the ending felt which is why I dropped half a point. I wished we had one more episode or even 30 more minutes to wrap it up. Everything before that, though? Genuinely fantastic. If you're on the fence about watching it, just press play and thank me later.

Totally worth the money spent!!

Wow!!! what great drama..loved every bit. The acting the main leads were fantastic. They did justice to the characters.

My first time watching Esther, she was great!

Dylan...boy oh boy...his acting has improved tremendously...he portrayed his character so well, the emotional scenes really tugged at your heart...he makes you cry with him...his character switches were done so well too.

I am going to miss this blue eyed devil and the love of his life..little orchid.

Time and money well spent. 🥰🥰

I hope to see them both again in another drama.

Love and Sacrifice

I started watching Love Between Fatty and The View with a bit of skepticism. In the first episodes, especially from 1 to 10, it was really hard to get into the story, mainly because of the weak effects that took away some of the immersion. I even thought about dropping it.

But everything changed from episode 11 onwards. That’s when I started to truly root for the Moon Supreme, cheering for him in every scene. By episode 16, there was no turning back—I was completely in love with his character.

From that point on, the drama had me hooked. Every detail of the plot, every emotion conveyed, kept me glued to the screen. What started as a dragging experience turned into a full-blown obsession, all thanks to the charisma and intensity the Moon Supreme brought to the story.

Dangerous gateway drug to a whole new world of epic romantic fantasy

This is one of the most popular xianxia, with reasons. Plot is so well written, art direction is top notch (so many frames look like paintings), OST is killer, costumes are legendary, there is tons of alchemy between the actors. It manages to be sweet, funny, heartbreaking. It's very well-paced and has no filler, which is rare. I even love Esther Yu's voice. It was my first xianxia and it hooked me hard on the genre, making me desperate to find other shows like it (and thrilled when I discovered that there was an entire catalogue of it waiting for me). What to say that hasen't been said about it already, just watch it.
