Disappointed

Conflicted. it was very promising but a little bit too makjang. too many plot lines and the writers tried to connect everything together which made it ridiculous (the PD being the daughter of the old detectie, the whole OZ crap...). there were too many filler episodes, like 5-6 that could have been cut. The "plot twists" were very predictable too. Although I don't like Lee Seunggi, his acting was good, but i don't think he was 100% fit for the role. The other actors were weaker.
overall enjoyable but my expectations were way higher given the rating

wtfff this is the best kdrama i’ve ever watched
it’s the first drama that i sat through without skipping a single scene i’m so sad that it’s ending soon
i never ever in my life thought that any kdrama could top penthouse for me
there’s literal plot twists in every single episode that’s what makes it so fucking gooooddddd
all i’m hoping for is a season 2 cause this drama grew on me way too much 😭

Eerily Brilliant - A top drama of 2021

The opening starts with an intensity that I’d argue most dramas don’t have. Many dramas lead you in with a slow and sluggish start or start off fast and decline, however this is one of a kind. It had me gripping my seat every week as the story unfolded.

What’s the most intriguing about this drama is the concept that psychopaths can be determined before they are born. This plays an important factor within the show, as the first episode gives you a detailed history of psychopathy, expectations, and experiences of the characters in the drama.

What I love about this is that it keeps you guessing at every turn, analyzing each characters perspectives as well as their actions. So detail oriented that you can’t miss anything otherwise you miss a clue. What makes this show so eerie is the facial expressions, and the impending suspense that you get from them.

I have only completed four episodes out of twenty, however I have rewatched every one of them at least three times tying to find Easter eggs or come up with an explanation as to why the camera does a close up on someone’s eyes in a specific scene. It’s all linked together throughout the show, you won’t get enough of it. But I would highly recommend that one should watch it after more episodes release because it will drive you crazy!!

I believe this drama is so ahead of it’s time in a way, the complexity of each character is well developed and you can see why they’re the way that they are because of the descriptive personal history.

i really enjoy it!!

honestly, from the start I had the feeling that bareum is a psychopath but in the middle of the drama i kinda doubt it because there were a lot of scenes that showed yohan is thr psychopath. the acting of all the cast especially lee heejoon and lee seunggi was very good, they managed to convey the emotions of their characters very well. the plot execution until the end was quite neat and clear, even though at the end there was no story about what happened to mrs. choi but it's enough, no need for season 2 in my opinion.

They got me....over and over....

Man....the first time they really got me in this show was in like episode 4. It's really hard to get me, usually I am like 500 miles in front of any plot twist. But, they are suuuuper mean in this drama and intentionally mislead you at the end of almost every episode, so you spend like 80% of your time watching the drama like WTF IS EVEN HAPPENING OMFG I AM SO LOST. There are a lot of moving players in this drama, so it's difficult at first to keep track of everything. Those mean suckers use it to their advantage and at the end of Episode 4 they make you think Ba Reum has the little boy hostage. OMFG...I was SO PISSED. I was like...nooo why you take this sweetheart and turn him into the bad guy in episode MF 4?!!? I should have known then that I was in for a bumpy ride. They bring it all together as the drama progresses....but everything gets a lot more sci-fi than I had expected.

Its still taking me some effort to get past the major gimmick of this drama. I won't spoiler it for you, but I was like....this some serious sci-fi BS right here. Except... nothing else in the drama is sci-fi at all. So like...it doesn't mesh well in my brain to only have that one weird "technological advancement" that the entire drama is centered around when it's so far outside the realm of possibility in the modern world setting. I think fantasy/sci-fi dramas work best when they have multiple outside-of-reality plot points.

I will say this....maybe skip this drama if you are soft hearted about pets being brutally murdered. Like ok, they put a disclaimer that it's not real and the pets are fine...but you can only watch so many puppies and kittens and birds and mice be slaughtered and still be ok, even knowing they're CG. I had to cover my eyes a few times so only the subtitles showed because I just didn't want another dead puppy in my brain. It's weird right? Like you could show me piles of dead bodies on TV and I'll be like...oh so it's a murder show. But show me one dead puppy and I'm like... YOU GD MF BASTARDS HOW TF YOU KILL A CUTE LITTLE PUPPY WTF. Aside from the general human gore, the only other disturbing thing I saw in this drama is that Lee Hee-Jun (older detective lead) has one nostril like SIGNIFICANTLY larger than the other. ....there were a lot of up-nose shots of the poor dude.

Overall, if you can tolerate the gore, this was an exceptionally well done crime thriller drama. The acting was across the board well done (except that one weird scene from the past with english speaking actors who were all so bad it made me physically cringe...the valley girl they had in the wheelchair who was supposed to have CP delivered some of the worst acting I have seen in my entire life...that whole segment should just be axed it was so hard to watch). The writers and directors did a super great job stitching together such a compelling twist filled narrative that managed to keep multiple plot threads all woven together without any significant plot holes or tangles. Definitely one of the better detective crime thriller K-dramas I've watched. Masterfully coordinated.

I'll probably rewatch this at some point, in a year or two after I've forgotten most of the finer plot points so that I can relive some of the anxiety induced WTF IS GOING ON HERE moments.

Half-good / Half-bad

I don't know how to feel about this one. It's both good and bad...
It's bad because it's totally predictable yet the writers try sooooo hard to confuse you the episode just because a big hard to follow mess.
But at the same time it's good because the main character is interesting, the actor is cool, the production and investigations are good.

What happens in the sixth episode?

I have noticed a pattern in Korean crime dramas. The investigation continues tightly until the sixth episode, then

SPOILER
SPOILER
SPOILER

the culprit is arrested and everything starts all over again with another branch of the investigation or another culprit. So far I've noticed this pattern in The Killing Vote (12 episodes), a horrible mess that I even gave a thumbs down on Prime Video, and now in this drama, which I'm watching the seventh episode of. Only, this drama is twenty episodes, so I don't know if they'll change the culprit every six episodes or drag this second story out for fourteen episodes. The first two episodes are quite chaotic, then you start to understand who is related to who (mother father brother grandmother...).

UNDERRATED FOR SURE

More people need to watch this show, it’s seriously underrated. The plot twists will have you on the edge of your seat, constantly second guessing everything. i swear just when you think you’ve figured it out, they go and flip the script then throw in something new. It’s the kind of series that keeps you thinking, making theory after theory with every episode. I recommend it to whoever likes mystery and suspense.

spectacular

One of the best dramas I've ever seen, it's very complete, with suspense, a thriller and even a hint of romance and comedy, and it's also a very well-written script. Although it's sometimes very complex and confusing, it manages to not have any plot holes and explains itself as the episodes go by. That suspense is gradually revealed, and it also comes with plot after plot. Each EP keeps you focused and makes you want to watch the next one and the next one. Even the special EPs are great. I simply wasn't disappointed with this drama. All the characters had a deserved ending and the development of each one was very well done! One thing I would tell those who are watching it for the first time is to pay close attention to the smallest details and to all the characters that appear. At first you might think, "Oh, that's not important," but I tell you it's not, lol. Everyone who appears has a reason. That's why I said the script is very well-written, because it makes good use of all the stories and manages to connect them in a very subtle and engaging way!

Unforgettable

Mouse (2021) – A Masterpiece of Suspense and Psychological Drama

Perfect Casting & Performance

The casting in Mouse was nothing short of exceptional. Lee Seung-gi delivered one of his career-best performances, portraying Jung Ba-reum with such depth and emotional intensity that he fully embodied the character’s transformation. Every emotion—whether fear, guilt, or psychopathy—was conveyed with chilling precision. The supporting cast, including Lee Hee-joon, Park Ju-hyun, and Kyung Soo-jin, also brought their roles to life, making every interaction feel raw and gripping.

Mind-Blowing Story & Plot Twists

The storyline of Mouse is its strongest asset. It starts as a seemingly typical crime thriller but quickly evolves into an intricate psychological puzzle. The series masterfully explores themes of nature versus nurture, questioning whether psychopathy is innate or influenced by environment. Just when you think you have the plot figured out, the show delivers a shocking twist that changes everything. The revelations are unpredictable, leaving viewers constantly on edge.

Emotional Depth & Psychological Exploration

Beyond the suspense, Mouse is deeply emotional. It doesn’t just focus on crime and mystery; it delves into the human psyche, morality, and the consequences of one’s actions. The show makes you question everything—who the real monster is and whether people can change. The emotional weight of certain scenes, combined with a haunting soundtrack, ensures that the drama stays with you long after it ends.

Final Verdict

Mouse is a must-watch for fans of psychological thrillers. With phenomenal performances, a gripping narrative, and unexpected twists, it keeps viewers hooked from start to finish. If you enjoy thought-provoking dramas that challenge perceptions and keep you guessing, Mouse is the perfect series for you.

⭐ Rating: 10/10 – A dark, thrilling, and unforgettable ride.
