Forever and Ever

A romantic courtship of a young lady with a rich scientist/ professor.

This is a drama series that I enjoyed watching very much. It may not need explanation, but just watch and repeat as necessary!. The story line is beautifully done. The dialogues are excellent, and the perseverance of the female character toward her future life was outstanding. And of course, she was played by Actress Bai Mengyan ( Bai Lu). It is however rather unfortunate that there were some sad drama happenings on both families involved; but I guess this was part of a daily life?.
The young lady (Shi Yi) was a voice dubber actress, having her star rising due to her special performance over the character that she played. She believed in re-incarnation. The young man (Zhou Shengchen) that she met by accident at the airport was a scientist/researcher/ professor, but also the heir of a rich, influencial family. He is a bit of a nerd or eccentric, has a photographic memory, and owned a tiny crab as a pet. However, he was considerate, punctual and kind.
As what Shi Yi said, she believed that they were meant to see each other as part of the re-incarnation in life. She said that she felt happy just by seeing him nearby. Therefore, she just jumped to the opportunity when he proposed to marry her.
She ended up to live far away from him for a while, but always close to him at her heart. She encountered difficulties when dealing with the complex family life of a rich family, with Shengchen's complicated family name as well as his family history. She had to deal with his stepmother not liking her from the start, or to deal with his old sweetheart who ended up marrying his younger brother.
Shengchen' close friend and his lawyer (Mei Xing) had initially taken an interest in Shi Yi, as well as Shi Yi's company dubbing director (Wang Ying Dong), but Shi Yi had always have her interest in Shengchen only.
In the fight to win Shengchen's heart, Shi Yi's allies have always been her best friend (Hong Xiaoyu), Shengchen's younger step sister (Wen Xing), his personal driver (Uncle Lin), and his old grandma Qin.
With all of the difficulties to adapt into the Zhou family, Shi Yi slowly was getting to know Shengchen. Her kind approach and her patience to him finally developed into a blossoming love between the two of them; although the road to happiness was a little slow, awkward and sometimes had their funny moments to cherish.
At the end, and as happened through the perils and dangerous events, they accomplished what they were looking for since the beginning.

Cast/Characters
Cast
Shi Yi was played by Actress Bai Mengyan ( Bai Lu). I never saw movies starring her before. However, I must say that she was a star performer. She is very pretty and she has grace and natural beauty. I just love to see her acts in the drama: on her physical acting, her looks and expressions in playing the role as Shi Yi.
Zhou Shengchen was played by Ren Jialun. With wearing glasses as a scholar, he was quite convincing and sometimes funny. Shi Yi's friend - Hong Xiaoyu was played by Wang Yueyi. Other characters were Mei Xing played by Ci Sha, Long Bin as uncle Lin, Wang Ruixin as Zhou Wen Xing, Luo Hai Qiong as Qin Wan - Shengchen's step mother. Tong Jiaren was played by Jin Li Ting, and younger brother Zhou Wen Chuan by Luo Ming Jie.

Characters
Shi Yi's and Shengchen's characters can be considered to be very conservative in today's standard. I found that it is delightful to listen to their dialogues, and how Shi Yi's slowly got closer to Shengchen.
As a room mate for Shi Yi, Xiaoyu had been the driving force which brought the couple together. It was quite refreshing when Xiaoyu coached Shi Yi on the background as Shi Yi timidly spoke to Shengchen. Xiaoyu accelerated the relationship between Shi Yi and Shengchen.
I do not particularly like the Qin Wan's character - the stepmother of Shengchen. She appeared to try to have her own way to secure her position in the Zhou family, as she was losing control of Shengchen. Shengchen's grandma however was quite warm and friendly toward Shi Yi.

Music
Simply beautiful music theme, and it added to the romantics of the drama.

Rewatch Value
I rewatched some of the episodes or portions of them multiple times, because of variety reasons: to get details of the dialogues, to see funny moments or memorable moments between Shi Yi and Shengchen, or to try to better understand the story line. Bai Lu's character had this special expression when she looked at Shengchen. Lots of precious and priceless moments to watch over and over again!

Scenery/ Filmography
Overall, the filmography of this series was outstanding. There were beautiful views of the various sites, including the historical City of Xian, the Zhou's family mansion with a front yard full of parked big, luxurious cars/ limousines. Some filming was done using drones, and the views from above were spectacular. There were also the night scenes with perfect lightings, adding some romantic and memorable events of the drama.

Personal Comments
- As a note, I did not watch the prequel of this drama series - One and Only. I am fine with what I saw as independent series, although the prequel may help with some understanding of the story line
- Shengchen character appeared a little bit too young as a professor.
- I sometimes regretted to see the sad endings of some of the drama characters from the Zhou family. I wonder what happened to the story's reception if such events were not happening?
- I felt sorry for Tong Jiaren's character, as she was still clinging to her rejected love from Shengchen. I despised Wen Chuan's character as being jealous of his older brother (Shengchen), as being irresponsible to his former wife ( Jiaren), and to be a playboy with one of the Wang's family character.
- Mei Xing's character was a little odd and seemed out of time with his hair and dress as a lawyer. I felt sorry that he lost his love to the two persons to whom he initially want to be close - Shi Yi and Wen Xing.
- Shi Yi was extremely beautiful when she wore make ups and with a red Chinese dress.
- Shengchen's photographic memory was outstanding - first when he wanted to memorize Shi Yi's phone number, and secondly when he drew a copy of the lotus flower painting that Shi Yi drew previously for Uncle Feng, completely from his memory.
- I like Uncle Lin' s character in the drama, who considered Shengchen as his own son.
- It was rather amusing when someone mentioned that since Shengchen had a crab as a pet, his entire Zhou family stopped eating crabs.

Missed the impact created in the previous installment..

To fulfill Shi Yi's last wish, the one she made before committing suicide in her previous life, the writer is back with a modern-day plot to give her a satisfying closure with Chen Zhousheng, though this time Chen is his given name.

A thousand years have passed since that tragedy. The landscape has changed. This is a free world, so the approach towards romance has changed too. No oaths, no promises standing in their way anymore.

Yet, despite all the conditions supporting their love story, it still felt flat and soggy.

The very impact of the star-crossed lovers' reunion is missing. I mean, their first meeting could have been so much better than Shi Yi simply calling out his name and asking for his email address at the airport.

I was extremely disappointed to see that CZS had no memory of his past life. I mean, why? Wasn't he equally involved? Him not carrying those memories made it feel as if his attachment to Shi Yi wasn't as strong as the writer had suggested in the previous part.

Imagine crying for two hours straight while watching their tragic love story, only to click on the next installment and find out that the ML has no memory of their past together, neither in the first episode nor in the last. It felt almost like betrayal.

And to make things worse, they added family politics BS and other filler plots that felt too superficial. Sure, the stepmother's involvement in the ML's private life was more annoying than his oath in his previous life.

They jumped into the marriage segment pretty quickly, which was predictable because this man pretty much existed to marry Shi Yi and fulfill her wish. But his obsession with getting tailored dresses made for the FL for every occasion felt repetitive and boring. Like, can't you think of something more magical for lovers reuniting after a thousand years?

I finished this show solely because of my love and respect for Bai Lu.

This series is really slow moving and I'm almost at the point of skipping it. They try to drag on the episodes too long with too much unnecessary drama and scenes/dialogue. The main male character is really annoying at times, trying to portray as someone who is nerdy & naive... can't believe in this day and age you have someone like him who is highly educated and would not be up to speed to what is happening in the world today in some instances And his manner in talking with his wife & showing his emotions etc after a slow and dragging relationship is really boring. Cannot believe that after you have married someone, you still live in formalities etc and not even have a decent hug or kiss..Unbelievable!

Too much unnecessary sub plots, background dialogue for a series and the script should have been improved at the onset

BaiLu and RenJialun are ❤️ and the details are appreciated

I’ve watched til the 22nd episode and had been waiting for One and Only and Forever n Ever since long ago! Now the wait is over and their acting are amazing!

I can’t express how the character, plot development, music, cinematography are making it one of the best dramas I’ve ever watched!
Note: It is my personal thought with a lil bias from my love for Bai Lu😝❤️

I love how Mo Bao Fei Bao and the director added details, parallelism and related stuff and memories from One and Only; they are making me to emotional and feel like I’ve been with Shi Yi for so long, waiting and supporting her to love with the one she loves. The writer successfully made the audience engaged and emotionally invested with the flashback and memories of One and Only.. Without One&Only, Forever and Ever couldn’t be as satisfying as it is now. That is the critical point that makes this drama different from others out there and it really strikes my heart!!

The production team + writer + great actors and actresses + OST singers = 100% PERFECT

I love each OST’s lyrics. I’ve read all of them and been listening to “如一” sang by Allen for two weeks straight…
I love verbal and non-verbal communication among ML & FL & supporting roles.
I would like to express my appreciation for the scenes where it is romantic and meaningful without saying a romantic word nor skinship as follows:

All the poems and words from the past or the book or the history should also be noted as this really confirms how Chinese language is beautifully written and should be admired. I would say, as a person who know Chinese, I think all credits should also go to MoBaoFeiBao again:) Or maybe she is just my type-of-favorite-writer haha!😂

I love the way each character has their past, present and future in their eyes and actions. They are the reflections of their bones 🦴 . The personalities, thoughts toward the world, beliefs and attitudes are reflected from each person’s bone and soul, the drama is making this point clear and obvious.

I am trying my best not to compliment much about the actors and actresses as I know how BIAS I’m for Bai Lu and Allen Ren❤️ I love them both and respect their well-rounded abilities (acting, singing, dancing and atmosphere- making😝) I love how they are really engaged and involved with the dramas. I couldn’t find a word to admire the ML&FL acting skills… (it’s beyond my English skill, sorry😉💙) So, I’ll just hope they could act with each other again in the future!

The chemistry is the best. The expression is perfect. The storyline is well-thought and well-written. The lil details are admirable.
I just love all of Forever and Ever, I mean it :)

Slow-burning romance; refreshing

This drama is a MUST watch because its a slow-burn romance and its really refreshing to watch for a romance drama. It is nicely produced especially with the OST. Because this the second season of One and Only, I was scared to watch this because it was a sequel to a costume drama but in Modern day setting. I hate how usually they would go back in fourth between the two settings yet they didn't that for this drama. This was fully a Modern day drama, so it was done properly.

Story/Plot: I love the plot especially it taking off from the previous season and it being the two leads meeting each other based off of destiny. It gave off a nice romantic feel for how the two leads came together. Furthermore, I love the fact that their wasn't any misunderstandings or angsty moments. They even made ZhouSheng Chen's (ML) Ex, Tong Jiren whom is obviously is saddened by not being with ZhouSheng Chen and tries to get back with him [ without the petty tactics] into a comedic effect. They do the same thing with Shi Yi's (FL) co-worker whom has a crush on her, where ZhouSheng Chen gets jealous and Shi Yi finds it adorable. On the other hand, they could have done better with explaining why ZhouSheng Chen and Tong Jiren's relationship/ engagement ended. I love the way they showed off ZhouSheng Chen and Shi Yi's marriage as being healthy and loving.

Acting/Cast: This is my second Allen Ren drama while my third drama for Bai Lu. I'm more familiar with Bai Lu, I am used to her playing very tomboy character so it was nice seeing her in a more mature role. At first, I didn't even recognize her at first because of how pretty she is. She played the her role very well, she is very good no matter whom she is playing with. Allen also did a great job since I love his character. He plays nervous, shy and awkward characters well. I love the facial expressions he makes.

Ost: I love the songs, all of them fit the scenes and the emotion behind them.

In conclusions, this drama is a must watch since its really good. I would definitely re-watch this drama for the good acting, plot and of course Allen.

Confused

I can see many loved this drama and im failing to see quite why! The settings are beautiful as are the actors but the love between the two I'm failing to grasp. I know their past lives and the connection but in this life he is so wooden and uncommunicative and the lack of physical affection so far just makes him out to be a manboy. I understand his childhood and IQ have left him socially isolated but is she just going on his looks and name?!!! After all her past memories so far have not shown him! Im trying to enjoy it as a light romance but its pretty unbelievable the speed to the wedding given he cant even hold a conversation with her and his obsession with her showering time is bizarre to say the least - definitly a love like no pther!
I'm hoping as the series continues she thaws him out and the series gets more interesting!

Sweet and romantic. But imma stop watching for now.

I am well aware that all the episodes have not been released yet. But hear me out, I ve pretty much more or less get an idea of what happened on the 22 episodes that was recently uploaded. So I got simple insights of my own on the drama. So let’s not hate but open a friendly discussion or you can just not read this review altogether :).

So the drama, no surprise. Is very sweet, adorable and romantic. The loving and detailed gestures of the ML trying to comfort or care for the Fl is the sort of thing we make weird faces at as it squeezes our heart strings.

I don’t really have much to say about the plot. I mean it’s decent. Not too complicated nor is it that simple. It’s not perfect but it’s alright. There is of course romance, the slow but promising journey between the two characters love blossoming and strengthening as time goes by although they are engaged. Could it be that, getting engaged first and falling in love after truly? Is the way to go? Idk. Just a random thought.

They went through troubles here and there. Because if he’s family mostly but it seems like the FL still held on and stayed by his side which is good. It gets kinda annoying when the FL discovers something bad and end up ditching the Ml only to have him chase after her and pleading to take him back. It romantic at first but I don’t favour that type of characters.

Strong female characters that don’t easily take shit from others even her in laws and fight to stay by her partner side like a queen is the way to go!

Speaking of which Bai lu of course, did a remarkable job. She is an actress after all. She is very pretty, adorable and I can only imagine very professional and enjoyable to work with. It can be seen in this drama. Her modern wear was gorgeous on her. So did the historical wear of course.

She kinda depicted the beautiful girl falling in love with the nerdy bookworm.. to him he like don’t see the attractiveness in him but she sees beyond appearances and find what was inside matters the most so she fell head over heel in love with him.. some scenes she make the first move to do this and that since he’s rather shy and not good at expressing feelings. She don’t mind talking about random topics which are like almost boring but she didn’t find it to be boring at all or weird at all.

So the role switch in these minor details are very good and crucial for any viewer to fall in love with the characters. It’s almost exhausting seeing the ML always make the first moves we should see more female characters making the first move and being active in these sort of endeavour but bearing in mind they too should be treated not as a baby princess but a queen.

I don’t know the ending, which I m fine with just sharing my insights with what I have so far to appease myself. I am going to stop watching for now. Just a personal preference to halt watching this first. But I may or may not come back to it.

The dudes character is of course adorable. Allen Ren is a good actor sure. He s wife and son would have been proud. Omg sorry I can’t seem to wrap around the idea that this dudes married and has a kid. Woah...... oh well. I was shipping him with bai Lu at first like Ang romance dramas but turns out he has a family. A bit of bummer to be honest but good for him. Family is important no matter your career is.

So the drama to me right now is decent. It’s okay. But the disappointing factor is the passionate scenes between the two. I mean I know there were like one or two. But very little kiss scenes. Even when there were, it was like an almost kiss then someone interrupts other than that there is really no sauciness in this. Some of the viewers are into that, likewise. So yes that’s lacking here.

Anyways, this is only one person opinion. Some might not find it credible enough Being that the drama isn’t over and I haven’t watched it all. But this is a personal review. Agree or not. I suppose you gotta watch it yourself to come up with an opinion.

You must watch one and only first an then you can watch this one

This drama will give you the ending you want after you watch One and Only. This drama give a chance for shiyi and zhousheng cen to be together but with many problem that make their relationship to be deep. If you want to watch this drama without to watch One and Only maybe you will be a bit confuse and you will feel a bit hasty because for the first part they was already together but to keep their relationship they must keep fighting and keep their mind tobe together. Its so touching and you can keep this drama on your list drama to be watch. And this the title of this drama is Forever and Ever.

Definitely One of My Faves

I am a fan of both the ML and the FL so I was very happy to see them them together in both of these stories. They were different in their previous lives obviously and I think the changes to their modern characters was a good transition. Though it was strange at first to see the ML as a very awkward professor. I am glad they got their happy ending in this one. I also enjoyed all the other characters and was glad they did not spend too much time on the side characters. Good acting by everyone involved. I have lost track of the many Chinese dramas I have watched, both historical and modern, but these 2 are sitting safely in my top five Chinese dramas.
