If you like simple, sweet, heart warming coming of age drama this is a must watch
is my rating. This is a 2023 Chinese romantic drama with 24, 30-40 minute episodes.First I provide a unique synopsis then review
Synopsis
Su Zaizai (Zhang Miaoyi) and Zhang Lurang (Zhou Yiran) are complete opposites in personality. Where Zhang Lurang is cold and aloof, Su Zaizai is social and friendly. That doesn’t stop Zaizai from developing an instant crush on Zhang Lurang when they have a chance encounter at a corner store on a rainy day. Zaizai begins to persistently put herself in Zhang Lurang’s sphere to get his attention and win his friendship. Zaizai turns out to be just what Zhang Lurang needed to help him break out of his cold, lonely shell. Tolerance becomes friendship then evolves to something more.
Review
This is one of the most heart warming romantic comedies I have ever seen. The main romance is credible, well paced, believable and incredibly sweet. The bonus, second couple romance, is also very touching. So many interesting relationships between the friends and family. If you like heart warming romances, coming of age, or friends to lovers then you should definitely add this to your watch list.
Spoilers
Zhang Lurang’s mother was a tiger mom to the extreme. Her expectations were so unreasonably high she was not satisfied her son was a top student. His lack of self confidence and shy/withdrawn nature was the consequence of his mother’s extreme behavior. It is harmful to compare one person to another in a negative way. Does it happen in real life. Absolutely. My spouse was subjected to that same lens and had many emotional problems as a result.
To watch Zaizai’s sunny persistence draw Zhang Lurang out of his protective cocoon was a delight to watch. In one part someone said your girlfriend is clingy and he corrected them saying he was the one who was clingy. Later they commented all the women were after him romantically yet he never wavered. It made perfect sense because she literally saved him from himself and he said as much.
There were occasions where the group of five were together just enjoying their friendship and being young and I loved it. It is a gift to have people like that in your life.
I loved how all the kids loved the one friend’s grandmother. They hung out at her restaurant and she fed them good food

Communication well done! watch it, best decision you'll make!!
I usually don't write reviews but I need everyone to watch this drama right now!! Both main leads go through many challenges from high school to their jobs even some cliche stuff but they make it not so cliche its so cute. They both Communicate so well leaving no misunderstandings for long. They both give each other strength as well as all of their friends. It focus on hard work, happiness, and such a fluffy drama. They have little to no miscommunication as well as the deep trust they have and when I say the trust is such a relief, they neither ever second guess about one another. The second lead couple are also so cute but I do wish they got together more early. This drama just gets better and better as you go into it, officially my comfort drama because usually for me dramas drag a few episodes but this one is so good I need more episodes, doesn't drag at all you can just enjoy watching this smiling, gives this nostalgic feel, greenest flags ever. I say no more as you all should see this masterpiece!!Was this review helpful to you?
A must watch for all, especially those wanting to reminisce their youth
I watched the first two episodes and didn't continue on until a couple days ago and I watched the whole thing in four days!! I have never cried so much from happiness in a drama, the entire last episode I couldn't stop. The couples are the cutest I have ever seen in my life. Yes the slow burn is real but man I loved their developments and how they properly got to know each other before dating. The love these group of friends has is just amazing.
As someone who just graduated year 12 myself a couple days ago, this drama about youth and growing up really hit home for me. I hope we all have learnt to treasure the time we have with each other after watching this masterpiece.
I know I will turn to this drama again in the future when I need some comfort. Please go watch if you haven't already, I have never been so certain of a show worth a 10/10 rating.

Indignant rant starting now:
What is up with these dumb girls who blindly keep forcing themselves on guys? What is up with these dumb boys who like these girls?I'm clearly choosing the wrong dramas. I nearly made it through this one by taking it in small chunks, but in the end, I just couldn't take the FL any longer. My notes from watching this are filled with seething fulminations about my aggravation with her character. Jumping ginger-snaps, I can't stand that girl! She "likes" this boy, but she is so insensitive to his feelings. She is constantly selfish- just doing what she wants to do without respecting, asking, or caring about his feelings or preferences (including, but not limited to, when he's actively against something). She acts like she's a gift from heaven but is a self-centered brat.
Examples:
She is good at just the one subject in school, but somehow she feels entitled to throw it in the ML face in spite of the fact that he is obviously feeling bad about his shortcomings.
She demands that the ML buy her expensive food and bring it to her, taking advantage of her fake injury, all the while thinking she's so cute.
She is so patronizing, "rewarding" him with a girly stuffed animal and later a chocolate or something.
And so deuced conceited! "Why aren't you looking at me?" "I won't charge you." "Aren't I pretty?" "You must keep the good things for yourself," implying herself.
WHAT AN INFERNAL SELF ABSORBED VEXATIOUS OFFSPRING!!! And speaking for him? "If you don't answer...[I'll just decide your words for you]." People who aren't continuously drooling words don't need someone to speak for them; that is condescending and superior. Maybe the individuals who are endlessly yapping need to shut up. Isn't it nice when cicadas take a breather?
*****
Let's put that being aside. I considered the other characters to be well-acted for the most part. I thought the ML did a good job of portraying a quiet, low-key person without being "meh." The 2ML was appropriately annoying yet likeable. The 3ML was a nice addition to the group. The 2FL was...tolerable. That about sums things up.

currently watching this…
I like the main lead (guy) and I’m quite irked with the female lead… just give me stalkerish vibes and a little bit annoying, but her best friend/classmate, she’s really pretty in my opionion, and has more depth in character, I do like her way better than the female lead. watching it because base on the reviews it’s a nice sweet drama. so let’s see if I’ll continue watching it or will just eventually drop this, by far my favorite c-dramas are love O2O, lost you forever, put your head on my shoulder. I enjoyed watching I hear you, and some of shen Yuen’s series..Was this review helpful to you?

A standard formula done to a high standard. Sweet without being cloying, and two great romance storylines . . .Yes yes, this is the time old plot of a quiet, handsome, a bit brooding, talented boy and bubbly, sweet with pluck girl. She wins him over with her straightforward good heart, and he's forever grateful she came into his life.
Why is this better than the rest? One is just how well, mostly through glances and small gestures, you can see our male lead fall helplessly for the female lead. And once he realises they are both on the same page, he confidently leads them into the future no doubts or bizzare hesitations just for plot points. Their relationship also matures with their age, and doesn't get stuck in some sort of strange immature 16 year old zone the whole show.
All the actors are excellent and along with the script they make you believe you've dropped in on a friendship group of teenagers. They also go through all the developmental stages modern kids went through - transferring schools, dealing with difficult parents, going to different universities, etc. And all these developments are honored and treated seriously as the pivotal life events they are. The show paces these hurdles with an excellent sense of timing.
This is a bit more traditional than I've seen in quite awhile, this isn't one where they are in equal partnership on all fronts:
- Our female lead Zaizai struggles for respect in the workplace, and is sexually harassed by a client with encouragement from her boss. She walks out of that dinner - good for her. But it's unclear why or how she is able to work there after?
- There is no cost of living crisis! Ranran our male lead somehow has the money for their first apartment and most of the wedding costs as well and a car! Zaizai contributes what she can but it's clear that Ranran is expected to be and is the primary leader and breadwinner.
This probably? Is my favorite of the Chinese dramas in this format on high school friends and lovers. The lack of darker plot points means I don't have to knock off points for mishandling red flags. And the show is pretty perfectly paced, with a beautiful soundtrack, well filmed, easy to watch.
I had skipped this for a long time as cloying nostalgic views of high school are usually not my cup of tea. But, I was wrong, this is worth a watch.

Cute fluffy, heartwarming drama.
If you finished a thriller/intense/ emotional drama, and want to watch something nice and cute, with not much load, lemme tell you, you've come to the right place. The best part is there is no scheming evil person. The story is pretty much simple (cliché), about a bunch of highschoolers, who fall in love and have their happily ever after.
I feel this drama has certain similarities with few others, so 'Disclaimer for this review' I might go ahead comparing bits and pieces with other dramas. Acting and cast were fine ( It was a pleasure watching Ai Jia (form 'Falling into your smile' ) (😆 lol, I still call him that). Coming to music, that one song in english that plays in the later half (i guess), its amazing.
Plot : I found it kinda similar to the plot of the drama 'a love so beautiful' , but i think this one was way much better. We have a cute and cheerful FL, who fell for the ML first (love at first sight). But unlike the FL of ' A love so beautiful', she's not entirely dumb. She's strong, i.e., she can fight her own battles, she's not entirely hopeless when it comes to academics (she had her strengths) , but she does try to act cute in front of her love interest. The ML on the other hand isn't someone who's the pefect (but unrealistic) human. He has his own weaknesses , and difficulties in life. The way each of them help each other grow mutually & ultimately fell in love, was truely amazing. At no point it felt fancy, it was very gradual and smooth transition. And wathing them was a pleasure.
Anothe comparison, that I've come across is between 'When I fly towards you' and ' Hidden love'. Both these dramas have a special place in my heart, and I loved them both. In my opinion, both of them are unique in their own way. Hidden love talks mostly about love. I'd call Romance as its biggest theme, which was a bit more mature in terms of life struggles, stuff like that. But that's not the case with 'When I fly towars you', as it has a plethora of themes like : school life, friendships, romance, which makes it different, in a beautiful way. (I'll still give Hidden love some bonus point for none other than the gorgeous couple CZY &Lusi.)
The portrayal of friendships in this drama , was just spectacular. I'm sure many had been reminded of their school days. It was just too good . Being majorly a school drama, a huge chunck of it had lots of plot lines relating to high school and it covered a vivid variety of issues. The five friends hanging out , having fun, probably gave all of us nostalgia. The best part was that the plot incuded their life as grown ups, again covering quite a few slice of life topics, which made it more realistic. The proposal was so freaking cute .
Everything, pretty much . I'd call this the CUTEST drama I've ever watched.

first love and beautiful growth
this drama was simple yet beautiful, sweet, realistic, relatable and swoon worthy. as i near my 30s, it was really lovely getting to watch a drama like this one. that made me think and reminisce about my own youth/school days. a wonderful depiction of what its like to fall in love for the first time. it was just an easy and enjoyable drama all together.i would recommend anyone to watch this, especially on a hot summer day like i did. no crazy, unnecessary drama/crazy characters. sit back, relax and enjoy something that makes you appreciate your own life/love experiences.

strong start...boring second half.
let's get this out of the way. did I like this drama? yes. is it perfect? nothing is perfect.plot: we follow a group of teenagers throughout their highschool and uni years and witness their growth.
let's start with the positives:
this is a very sweet drama. the representation of youth and everything around it comes off as sweet and relatable.
I like how the drama shows different kinds of family dynamics (single parents, busy parents, brother rivalry, etc) and personal emotions.
this is a slice of life show and especially in the first half this is done quite well and in a very sweet and enjoyable way.
the main ml is very sweet and reminds of a younger Esther yu. the cast was a good choice and the characters are all funny and well portrait.
the soundtrack is very pleasant and "youth feeling".
onto the negatives:
I liked that the main ml is not the usual asshole. he is of course the representation of the "cold guy" but he is not mean in any way compared to others teenager dramas. on the other hand he is literally a stone wall. I feel most of the time the FL is talking to her self while he is there touching his neck, smirking and coughing.
not really a thrilling characters. but he is a nice guy.
the series in itself feels really predictable. there isn't much of a plot going on and even though it is sweet to experience all these moments with the cast it starts to feel pretty boring mid way.
especially reaching episode 17 I felt we weren't going anywhere.
the characters don't really develop. there stay the same even though time passes and their dynamics stay still.
that's one of the reasons I feel the show should have ended when they finished highschool.
we kinda see where they are heading and I feel there wasn't really a need for a "detailed" ending.
the college episode are frankly so boring and inconsequential. I admit I skipped basically all of them fast forwarding to the part where Jia Jiang and Guan run (I forget their names😅) get together.
frankly speaking at a certain point I was more invested in their dynamic than into the main couple.
speaking of the main couple, watching them grow closer was sweet but also "blue balls inducing". at a certain point I asked myself what was the point. they grew closer but It didn't look like they were acting trying to date or anything else.
personal observation:
this stems from a personal perspective but watching some Chinese show is sometimes painful. being westerners is hard to sympathize with family forcing their kids to stop living to just study. teachers prohibiting literally teenagers to date is something I cannot wrap my head around. especially giving the fact that many household expect their kids to get married as soon as they graduate uni. I am sorry. you keep your kids celibate for years and then expect them to procreate without any experience....
I know at the end this is just a cultural clash with I am used to on a certain level.
overall this is a very sweet drama especially when it comes to friendship.
should you watch it? it depends on how much your care about a plot or if you just enjoy vibes.

When I Fly Towards S2
When I Fly Towards You is one of the most wholesome and emotionally balanced youth dramas out there. It’s not just about romance—it’s a thoughtful mix of love, friendship, self-growth, and family struggles, all told with a light and sincere tone. The story centers on Su Zaizai, a bubbly and outspoken high school girl who falls for Zhang Lurang, a quiet and reserved top student. At first, he seems cold and distant, but as the story unfolds, we learn that he’s dealing with a lot of pressure from his family, especially from constantly being compared to his younger brother. These family issues deeply affect his confidence and self-worth, making his journey of opening up even more touching.
What really makes this drama stand out is how well it balances all of its elements. The romance is sweet and natural, the friendships are supportive and funny, and the school life feels nostalgic and real. Every character, even the side ones, adds something meaningful to the story.
The pacing is calm but never boring. The soft visuals and warm tone make it easy to watch, and by the end, it leaves you with a genuine feeling of comfort and hope.
