I've been a fan of Chinese drama sine 2018 and this was one of my most favorite right now. Getting Zhang Lu Rang and Gu Ran on one drama was so good I can only see a green. The Ost was perfect. Actor who played every role was perfect storyline script perfect.

My favorite one Zhang Lu Rang like Su Zai Zai. The the one that Rang Rang say when he finished his presentation of his work that in the eyes of Zai Zai there's always Zhang Lu Rang.

This kind of friends I need them🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

It's been a while since I felt this kind of feeling after finishing a drama.

AHHHHH Thank you Rang Rang, Zai Zai, Gu Ran, Jiang Jia and Guan Fang 💞💕

my new comfort drama

i love how this drama had no toxicity whatsoever which made it so heartwarming and easy to watch, cattree really did so well directing this drama and you can see how detailed he is with the moves in the bts clips being so specific how. he wants that scene to feel.

we got to see a little background from all the characters and what type of life they lived after school, and their pasts, knowing them a bit better. zaizai and rangrang had the cutest relationship, it was basically love at first sight from both ends but we only got to see progress from zaizais end. the playlist for this drama is also soso good i listen to it when i study nowadays.

i honestly don't think i'll ever get over this drama really, i watched it while it was ongoing everyday i looked forwards to a new ep or two to come out, and when i was waiting i would go to the actors profiles to see if they've updated their profile with anything. my fav part of this drama would have to be when rangrang proposed to zaizai, the video he made. using clips filmed off of zaizais computer really got to me, and you could really tell whenever he was with her he'd. always have the biggest dimple smile on his face.

Indignant rant starting now:

What is up with these dumb girls who blindly keep forcing themselves on guys? What is up with these dumb boys who like these girls?

I'm clearly choosing the wrong dramas. I nearly made it through this one by taking it in small chunks, but in the end, I just couldn't take the FL any longer. My notes from watching this are filled with seething fulminations about my aggravation with her character. Jumping ginger-snaps, I can't stand that girl! She "likes" this boy, but she is so insensitive to his feelings. She is constantly selfish- just doing what she wants to do without respecting, asking, or caring about his feelings or preferences (including, but not limited to, when he's actively against something). She acts like she's a gift from heaven but is a self-centered brat.

Examples:
She is good at just the one subject in school, but somehow she feels entitled to throw it in the ML face in spite of the fact that he is obviously feeling bad about his shortcomings.
She demands that the ML buy her expensive food and bring it to her, taking advantage of her fake injury, all the while thinking she's so cute.
She is so patronizing, "rewarding" him with a girly stuffed animal and later a chocolate or something.
And so deuced conceited! "Why aren't you looking at me?" "I won't charge you." "Aren't I pretty?" "You must keep the good things for yourself," implying herself.

WHAT AN INFERNAL SELF ABSORBED VEXATIOUS OFFSPRING!!! And speaking for him? "If you don't answer...[I'll just decide your words for you]." People who aren't continuously drooling words don't need someone to speak for them; that is condescending and superior. Maybe the individuals who are endlessly yapping need to shut up. Isn't it nice when cicadas take a breather?

*****
Let's put that being aside. I considered the other characters to be well-acted for the most part. I thought the ML did a good job of portraying a quiet, low-key person without being "meh." The 2ML was appropriately annoying yet likeable. The 3ML was a nice addition to the group. The 2FL was...tolerable. That about sums things up.

currently watching this…

I like the main lead (guy) and I’m quite irked with the female lead… just give me stalkerish vibes and a little bit annoying, but her best friend/classmate, she’s really pretty in my opionion, and has more depth in character, I do like her way better than the female lead. watching it because base on the reviews it’s a nice sweet drama. so let’s see if I’ll continue watching it or will just eventually drop this, by far my favorite c-dramas are love O2O, lost you forever, put your head on my shoulder. I enjoyed watching I hear you, and some of shen Yuen’s series..

A standard formula done to a high standard. Sweet without being cloying, and two great romance storylines . . .

Yes yes, this is the time old plot of a quiet, handsome, a bit brooding, talented boy and bubbly, sweet with pluck girl. She wins him over with her straightforward good heart, and he's forever grateful she came into his life.

Why is this better than the rest? One is just how well, mostly through glances and small gestures, you can see our male lead fall helplessly for the female lead. And once he realises they are both on the same page, he confidently leads them into the future no doubts or bizzare hesitations just for plot points. Their relationship also matures with their age, and doesn't get stuck in some sort of strange immature 16 year old zone the whole show.

All the actors are excellent and along with the script they make you believe you've dropped in on a friendship group of teenagers. They also go through all the developmental stages modern kids went through - transferring schools, dealing with difficult parents, going to different universities, etc. And all these developments are honored and treated seriously as the pivotal life events they are. The show paces these hurdles with an excellent sense of timing.

This is a bit more traditional than I've seen in quite awhile, this isn't one where they are in equal partnership on all fronts:

- Our female lead Zaizai struggles for respect in the workplace, and is sexually harassed by a client with encouragement from her boss. She walks out of that dinner - good for her. But it's unclear why or how she is able to work there after?

- There is no cost of living crisis! Ranran our male lead somehow has the money for their first apartment and most of the wedding costs as well and a car! Zaizai contributes what she can but it's clear that Ranran is expected to be and is the primary leader and breadwinner.

This probably? Is my favorite of the Chinese dramas in this format on high school friends and lovers. The lack of darker plot points means I don't have to knock off points for mishandling red flags. And the show is pretty perfectly paced, with a beautiful soundtrack, well filmed, easy to watch.

I had skipped this for a long time as cloying nostalgic views of high school are usually not my cup of tea. But, I was wrong, this is worth a watch.

I need to cleanse my palate with something light and fluffy after watching the Long Season and this came highly recommended. This is a coming of age story about five friends in high school with romance flair. I thought the storytelling is cute, which I think having a cute FL also helps. This is an easy watch, one where you don't have to pay 1000% attention but can still follow the story. But it's a feel good TV show. One drawback is that since there is no antagonist characters, this feels boring. But if you're looking for a fluffy and happy all the time kind of TV show, you will definitely enjoy this.

strong start...boring second half.

let's get this out of the way. did I like this drama? yes. is it perfect? nothing is perfect.

plot: we follow a group of teenagers throughout their highschool and uni years and witness their growth.

let's start with the positives:

this is a very sweet drama. the representation of youth and everything around it comes off as sweet and relatable.

I like how the drama shows different kinds of family dynamics (single parents, busy parents, brother rivalry, etc) and personal emotions.
this is a slice of life show and especially in the first half this is done quite well and in a very sweet and enjoyable way.

the main ml is very sweet and reminds of a younger Esther yu. the cast was a good choice and the characters are all funny and well portrait.

the soundtrack is very pleasant and "youth feeling".

onto the negatives:

I liked that the main ml is not the usual asshole. he is of course the representation of the "cold guy" but he is not mean in any way compared to others teenager dramas. on the other hand he is literally a stone wall. I feel most of the time the FL is talking to her self while he is there touching his neck, smirking and coughing.
not really a thrilling characters. but he is a nice guy.

the series in itself feels really predictable. there isn't much of a plot going on and even though it is sweet to experience all these moments with the cast it starts to feel pretty boring mid way.
especially reaching episode 17 I felt we weren't going anywhere.
the characters don't really develop. there stay the same even though time passes and their dynamics stay still.
that's one of the reasons I feel the show should have ended when they finished highschool.
we kinda see where they are heading and I feel there wasn't really a need for a "detailed" ending.

the college episode are frankly so boring and inconsequential. I admit I skipped basically all of them fast forwarding to the part where Jia Jiang and Guan run (I forget their names😅) get together.
frankly speaking at a certain point I was more invested in their dynamic than into the main couple.

speaking of the main couple, watching them grow closer was sweet but also "blue balls inducing". at a certain point I asked myself what was the point. they grew closer but It didn't look like they were acting trying to date or anything else.

personal observation:
this stems from a personal perspective but watching some Chinese show is sometimes painful. being westerners is hard to sympathize with family forcing their kids to stop living to just study. teachers prohibiting literally teenagers to date is something I cannot wrap my head around. especially giving the fact that many household expect their kids to get married as soon as they graduate uni. I am sorry. you keep your kids celibate for years and then expect them to procreate without any experience....
I know at the end this is just a cultural clash with I am used to on a certain level.

overall this is a very sweet drama especially when it comes to friendship.
should you watch it? it depends on how much your care about a plot or if you just enjoy vibes.

Good Series

This series offers an enjoyable portrayal of school life, elevated by strong performances from the entire cast, particularly the main leads. While the storyline follows familiar tropes, the series stands out for its simplicity and refreshing approach to conflict.

Although antagonists are present, they are not overly malicious or toxic. Their appearances are brief and easily managed by the main leads, who demonstrate admirable resilience and problem-solving skills. This creates a viewing experience that is largely positive and avoids unnecessary drama.

Overall, this series is worth watching for its engaging portrayal of school life and its compelling characters.

such a lovely experience

It starts off amazing, nearly perfect, but, like most high school dramas, the quality drops drastically once the characters graduate. From that point on, it becomes kind of a drag. The transition from college to adult life feels rushed, and there are too many disposable characters. Jiang Jia and Gu Ran, who are both great characters, get completely sidelined and underdeveloped after graduation just to give more screen time to Su Zai Zai and Zhang Lu Rang.

The soundtrack also starts out really strong but becomes annoyingly repetitive by the end, which is another common issue with many dramas. Overall, I think a 7/10 would be more fair, but the first two-thirds of the show are so good that they carry it to an 8 despite the significant flaws near the end.

Another big positive for me is that the show avoids excessive flashbacks and overly melodramatic plotlines. There’s also very little pointless drama. In a genre full of sad, emotionally manipulative slop, a show where nothing truly bad happens feels like a breath of fresh air and makes the overall experience much more enjoyable.

The acting is top-notch, and the aesthetics are excellent as well. There are almost no unintentionally cringeworthy moments, which is surprisingly rare for this genre. Overall, it’s a genuinely above-average show that could have been even better. Things improve slightly once Jiang Jia and Gu Ran reappear, but only mildly, and unfortunately very late into the story.

✒☀Every Sunflower Needs Its Sun☀ °7.8° °cuteness overload°

Adapted from the novel, "She’s a Little Crazy,” WIFTY is as cute as cute gets. Zhang Miao Yi (Exclusive Fairytale) plays FL Su Zai Zai. She might be alittle crazy, but she's also like 🌞sunshine.

Crazy, in this case, means an uninhibited, hyper-focused go-getter. She's gonna go get herself Zhang Lu Rang (Zhou Yi Ran from The Legend of Zhuohua, Falling into Your Smile-5.7). He's gloomy and more like the 🌘moon, but he likes 🌻sunflowers. Lu Rang is good at every subject but English. Languages are a snap for Zai Zai, but she struggles with everything else. They end up tutoring eachother. After we meet Lu Rang's mother, it makes sense that he likes Su Zai Zai.

WIFTY is a 2023 release that is rated a high-flying 9 on MDL. (Romance fans love it, yo). It is 1 season consisting of 24 cuddly 35-minute episodes. They fly by quickly. Jiang Zhi Nan (The Best Day of My Life) as Jiang Jia & Bian Tian Yang (Bright Time, Song of Youth-7.2) as Gu Ran round out the 2ndary couple. They are fun: “As dumb@$$ he is, he actually didn't fall for my trick. This is so odd. What's more, how does he manage to be so obnoxious?” Actor, Bian Tian Yang, and his part, are adorable. The director is Mao De Shu (Lovely Us) and the screenwriters are Yue An & Tao Kai Xin who also collaborated on Let's Meet Now.

The original creator is Zhu Yi of the wildly popular show, Hidden Love-7.8. Consequently, WIFTY and HL are very similar. They are both low drama ride-alongs. The viewer hangs out with these simple characters throughout several years of their simple lives, but not much happens. That isn't to say that WIFTY isn't lovely. It is absolutely darling. WIFTY and HL are low on complexity, shade and tension, but they are high on romantic charm and the Prozac effect. They both include likable characters with some growing up to do. They both feature a FL who suffers from an instant crush that lasts for (presumably) a lifetime. Both cover from middle school to first post-grad positions. And both promote relaxation and tranquility. The viewer is unlikely to cry, will probably smile but not laugh, won't experience much angst or frustration, and will feel at peace. There will always be a place for such entertainment. To be fair, I will rewatch a feature that is of sub-standard quality yet it touches the heart before a piece that is intelligent and technically perfect but emotionally flat; but when it comes to rating a show, technical skill and the way it moves the heart are both important. A low degree of difficulty does lower the maximum potential score.

What they do in WIFTY they do well. The music is solid. They play a snippet from Brit rockers, Queen for a hot 5 seconds. It was amusing and quite unexpected. Before, by Zeyué is Shazam-worthy. The acting is excellent. The protagonists are engaging and there's some great dialogue. Long before they become a couple, our couple works on English prepositions and contrapositions together.

“If I exist, my love for you exists.”

“If I don't like you anymore, than I would no longer be me.”

It's a sweet scene.

“You don't necessarily have to become the sun. If you're willing to, you could be a star, a street light, or a firefly. They're all capable of shining when they want to shine. When they don't feel like shining they can slack off,” we hear in a challenge to shine as brightly as possible,

WIFTY shines as brightly as possible. Su Zai Zai is as unforgettable as she is adorable. While it's unlikely to appeal to anyone who isn't a serious romance fan, the show is simply delightful from one end to the other. If romance is your thing, make sure to exult in its warmth.

Cute unproblematic youth drama, but had the potential to be better

I had relatively high expectations for this drama partly because I’ve heard the story is written by the same author as Hidden Love, and also because a lot of people who enjoyed Hidden Loved kept recommending WIFTY. Similar to Hidden Love, there were very little misunderstandings and no conflicts that were dragged on for too long. It did feel a bit slow sometimes as a result, but I liked the characters enough to stay engaged for the most part. There were no 3rd act break-ups, and no toxic relationships, just pure fluff. The last few episodes were my favorite because I felt like things were finally happening, but I wish the vibe had been the same throughout the entire drama.

While I still enjoyed watching for the most part, I feel there wasn’t really enough going on with the characters or the story for it to stand out to me. I liked seeing Zhang Lurang reconnect with his brother, and I also liked watching the backstory of Guan Fang and his grandma. However, I felt like the FML’s could’ve been given more depth or at least more scenes of them dealing with their own struggles too. The only time ZaiZai actually struggled was towards the end when she was being harassed by a guy at work. Maybe I’m just being nitpicky but I feel like it could’ve been handled a bit better. Another issue I had was the portrayal of the 2nd FML’s feelings towards the ML. I loved them as a couple, but I found it a little difficult to believe she actually started having feelings towards the ML until the very end. I think the last few episodes were the most interesting for me, yet at the same time it felt rushed and I feel like we were robbed of more scenes of both couples.

Going into this I was expecting more of a coming-of-age story but I feel like I just got a fluffy slice of life friendship that dragged for half the time I was watching. It was good, but just a little overrated. Nonetheless, I don’t regret watching it and I can definitely understand why many people enjoy it.
