A MUST WATCH YOUTH CHINESE DRAMA

To begin with, I rarely indulge in watching youth cdramas due to my exceptionally high standards for this genre. Many Chinese dramas have failed to meet my expectations, causing me to drop them. Normally, I despise cringey and embarrassing female leads, but I must make an exception for Su Zaizai. Zhang Miaoyi portrayed her character remarkably well. This drama stands out as a heartwarming and lighthearted representation of youth. The depiction of friendship is truly exceptional, with minimal misunderstandings. It is a drama that will make you both laugh and occasionally shed a tear. The dialogue and quotes are skillfully crafted, and the cinematography is simply breathtaking. Director Cattree deserves praise for their outstanding work in bringing this series to life. The friendship portrayed here is undoubtedly one of the best in the realm of cdramas, as the characters mutually heal and support each other. All in all, this drama is an excellent production. I highly recommend giving it a try, as you won't be disappointed.

The Pinnacle of Youth Dramas

Oh my god. I really don't know what I'm going to do with my life now that this show is over.

At first glance this might seem like every other Chinese youth drama — sunshine FL/quiet ML, some grade-obsessed parents, sports day, a playful second couple — but so many things actually made this drama shine above all others.

The first thing is just how the plot really feels like a coming-of-age drama, without being overdramatic or sugary. I know it might be fun and inspiring when we watch a youth drama and a friend group is depressed when they find out someone's transferring schools, only to band together to stop it. But in real life, there are a lot of things outside our control and the only thing you can do is let it happen, know you can get through it, remember everyone still cares for each other at the end of the day — no matter the circumstances. That's what this drama did: physical obstacles were rarely overblown into emotional obstacles. It might sound bittersweet, but the fact that the plot flowed this way made it ten times more relatable to real life.

It really also meant that each character was given their time in the spotlight. Every person dealt with something themselves and everyone else was there to support them. Each person in the friend group had a distinct personality and subplot and it never felt choppy or random. It felt simply like learning more about your friends over time. WIFTY struck a perfect balance between giving its characters freedom and still making them feel inseparable that I don't think I've seen done so well in any other show.

I need more drama writers to take notes from Su Zai Zai, who seems like a typical bubbly FL on the surface but was actually really straightforward, stood up for herself, was smart in her own right, and had her own goals and was realistic in chasing them. She's absolute proof that giving an FL a crush doesn't mean it has to become her entire personality.

Zhang Lu Rang was a fantastic ML too. Once again, he might seem like the typical quiet and smart ML, but he was never mean or rude or overly perfect, and he had his flaws too that SZZ perfectly balanced out. This drama perfectly encapsulated why they belonged together. This was one of the rare dramas where the couples didn't get boring for me after they got together.

In fact, the chemistry is absolutely amazing between both couples, who also had their distinct dynamic and plot development.

Between the friendship warming up your heart and the romance giving me butterflies, there are absolutely no moments in this drama that I would skip. The OST fits perfectly and the cinematography is beautiful. The only bad thing I can say about this drama is that it ends.

A Perfect Youth Drama

I could not believe my eyes as I saw all the perfect score of 10 for this drama. Fixed with intense curiosity, I jumped right in and went full steam ahead and I am not disappointed. A truly well written and directed youth drama which guarantees a complete feel good experience which I am certain is taking a lot of drama watchers by surprise.

I liked that the characters in this drama depicted growing up challenges in a most positive way. Through love of friends, family, persons you love and who loves you back, every big aspiration can be successful with little steps. The love story of Zhang Lu Rang and Su Zai Zai shows exactly just that. Their love is strong and they did things right, from the way they loved each other, putting studies first, choosing the right time to confess, eventually moving in together and so much more. I was also so touched by Lu Rang's younger brother Lu Li's admiration for his older brother, Guan Fang's commitment and love for his grandmother and the friendship between the five best friends, cannot get any better in my books.

Congratulations to the writer, director, cast and crew of this spectacular drama in 2023. A truly big hit and I look forward to more of actors Zhou Yi Ran, Shang Miao Yi, Bian Tian Yang, Jiang Zhi Nan and Guo Zhe. Young and really talented.

Truly one that lives up to its hype!!

Rewatched for the second time - and somehow the feelings I had when I watched for the first time intensified while rewatching that it felt like I was watching for the first time.

Exceptional drama with an amazingly built storyline for the squad of 5. From the very start to the end, not a single moment was wasted.

Zhang Lurang and Su Zaizai’s chemistry is so unmatched -truly a ‘she fell first but he fell harder’ moment. She was the light in his dim world.

Aside from the main couple, even the second couple had phenomenal chemistry with quite the realistic yearning. Their friendship was enemies to lovers but they both fell in love in the process through acts of service.

This drama portrays the different love languages through multiple characters and does so seamlessly.

Amazing scripts and phenomenal cinematography - it truly deserves to be one of the top 2023 chinese dramas.

One of the most beautiful ending I’ve seen and I couldn’t picture it any otherway, especially with how beautiful the script was for the last episode.

I loved it so much?

The impact of this drama on my life is profound and unforgettable. It stirred up a rush of emotions and memories from my high school days, leaving an indelible impression on me. The genuine, unwavering love shown by the characters, their unbreakable bonds of friendship, and the enchanting music have all left a lasting mark on my heart. The scenes of watching the sunrise, cherishing moments at the beach, and wholeheartedly pursuing their dreams together brought tears of joy to my eyes. This drama will always have a special place in my heart, and I am immensely grateful to the creators for bringing such exquisite art into the world. As someone once said, this drama is full of once-in-a-lifetime moments, and I wholeheartedly resonate with that sentiment. The simple joys of youth portrayed in the series deeply resonated with me. There's so much more I could say, but for now, I'll leave it at that!

Managed to stay relevant out of the many school youth romance dramas out there

I was overzealous about its popularity in the review forum. Now I knew why this drama was a hit. Basically, it was the authenticity of the story, of the characters, of the dialogues, and of the emotions that no surprise this drama got a higher number of viewership. The story might be made up but it was identifiable in all aspects related to adolescence. The fact that they do away with the glossiness and overdoing of scenes, this drama was able to create an impact.

All five main youth characters were all lovable and funny who formed a nicely typical friendship while studying. Later on, young love started to grow among them because of constant togetherness which led to a happy ending to one of the pairs. I am making a special mention and credit to the screenwriter who gave us lots of prudence words here, which you might consider simple after hearing but practically logical with deeper meanings. This I think was its breakthrough aspect over other dramas. The story showed some of the general representation of a youth who was naturally impulsive, carefree, bubbly, and timid at times; and precise descriptions of their dilemmas over confession of young love, romantic anxiety separation, pressure on academic performances, difficulty in expressing oneself, and uncertainty of one’s dreams. It was packed with life lessons beneficial to young students transitioning to adulthood and the people around them.

Having watched this set of five good decent kids in the most candid narration of experiences set at grade 10 days following university life up until to working environment, I supposed, it obtained a distinguished spot in the collection of this genre that conveyed positivity and encouragement. How nice also for this drama to have brought us to our memories of shared experiences of our very own first stomach butterfly feeling and simply recalled that “Liking someone means caring for him or her”, and that person becomes “Your ultimate solution, like a magical remedy that can cure everything.” The love story of Zhang Lurang and Su Zaizai was a thing of cuteness and maturity, another envious beautiful romance to name. If I were to pick a drama out of the many that left me happy thoughts after watching it, When I Fly Towards You is one best fit to mention.

It's like a shot of espresso for your soul—energizing, addictive, and oh-so satisfying.

Picture this: you're scrolling through your streaming platform, looking for your next binge-worthy obsession, and BAM! You stumble upon this little gem. Let me tell you, from the moment I hit play, I was hooked like a fish on a line.

First things first, let's talk about the characters. Su Zai Zai? Total firecracker! She's got this infectious energy that just lights up the screen, and her chemistry with Zhang Lu Rang? Off. The. Charts. I swear, sparks were flying from my laptop!

But it's not just about the main couple—oh no, this drama's got a whole squad of side characters that'll steal your heart. From the goofy antics of the friend group to the heartwarming bond between Guan Fang and his grandma, there's never a dull moment.

Now, onto the love story. Su Zai Zai and Zhang Lu Rang's journey from high school crushes to grown-up lovebirds had me on the edge of my seat. And let me tell you, their confession scene? I was practically squealing with delight!

But hey, I'll be real with you—this drama isn't without its flaws. There were a few moments where I wished they'd slowed down and given us more juicy details, like at graduation ceremonies or during the second couple's love story. Seriously, they deserved way more screen time!

But despite these tiny hiccups, "When I Fly Towards You" is like a shot of pure adrenaline straight to the heart. It's got romance, it's got drama, and most importantly, it's got heart. So, if you're in need of a pick-me-up or just want to indulge in some seriously addictive drama, look no further than "When I Fly Towards You." Trust me, you won't regret it!

The best at school youth drama

With no unnecessary drama and love triangles, this drama is my personal favourite at executing the school love concept. The story was cute and smooth-sailing, very binge worthy and enjoyable. The characters are all so lovable, and the 2nd lead couple, oh my god why are they SOCUTEUFHBJCA. Both couples are super cute and I LOVE their friendship and dynamic (btw jiang jia's smile is so pretty nsdjvsdf") The love is very adorable, heartwarming and so pure, making me scream and cry fr.
The music was alright but nothing caught my attention too much. I do like 2 of it though, its very calm and chill vibes. Acting was great, chemistry is impeccable and overall was amazing. 10/10 recommend, wonderful drama and a joyful ride!!

Very unpopular opinion

Looking at the ratings of this drama mine is going to be an extremely unpopular opinion, sorry.

This drama felt like a big advertisement for teenagers on how their lives need to play out.
If you're a teen in high school you can have a crush, but don't go further!! focus on your studies and wait. Oh, you're 18 now? it's ok then, you can have a relationship. You finished your degree? you need to get the best job ever immediately and be super successful very young, be able to afford a house and not long after marry and start a family. It's almost fuel for depression.
The timings on when the characters were allowed or not to do something were super on the face, and they tried very hard to make the main two characters flawless in their upbringing, studies and manners.
In fact only Guan Fang has a more nunanced life, but it's put there as an example of what someone that gets into trouble needs to do, but they don't even dwell on how he did it, he just did because he looked at his grandma one day. It's very superficial.

I found the main female character quite annoying at times (some others I enjoyed her sassyness) and overall there is really no character progression for any of them, so as a result even when in the end they're in the wedding they look like 16 year olds getting married, I found it super weird. You also don't get to know them individually, not even the main characters (only Su Zai Zai and Guan Fang a bit more maybe), so you don't really know anything about them, only that they're friends and they're all ok successful people. Their specific traits are quite superficial so they're not that distinguishable ones of the others really, they work mostly as quirks since they don't impact much on how they act or what they do. Even when Jiang Jia didn't know what she wanted to study is solved quickly with very little hesitation. Zhang Lurang tells me in the end he has changed so much, but other than the fact they told the actor he could now smile more, I don't see any other change. He says he had low self-esteem, and while it's shown him not being treated very well as a teen by his mother I didn't see at any point him seeming to have low self esteem, I only saw him being serious and quiet and it's not the same.

As it happens many times I found the friends romantic relationship more interesting, that is until they decided to completely push it to the side and only resolve it quickly after the time jump. Time jumps also mean nothing here anyway, none of them change at all and whoever else they meet they only stay in their lives for like 5 seconds anyway. Very choppy.
Plot was boring at times (and I like slice of life) and most of the dialogue was very superficial, what is not necessarily terrible but then you had more poetic lines in specific crafted moments that were taking me again to the feeling of massive advert.
Many side characters appear only at weird moments and then in others when you would expect them to appear they don't.

Points go for the cute moments here and there, but overall this was a big miss for me.
I've watched chinese movies before but this was my first chinese series, and considering the high rating of this compared with my opinion of it I'm not sure I should try any other series maybe :/

This drama is just awesome.

"When I Fly Towards You" is a charming Chinese drama set in 2012, following cheerful transfer student Su Zai Zai and the aloof Zhang Lu Rang. The drama beautifully portrays a soft romance between the main leads and an unspoken yet dedicated bond between the secondary leads. I love the soft romance between the main leads and how the second main leads are dedicated to one another without confessing. That's great.

The right person will find you at the right time.

Starting off from school setting and transitioning into adult life, this drama has made sure to keep our hearts warm with nostalgia. Somewhere during our school years, most of us yearned for a love story like Rang rang and Su Zai Zai. So this drama feels like an escape from reality for us where the things we wished for is seen in this drama. Why you should watch this drama:
1. All the friends are green flags.
2. The friendship between the cast is adorable and feels like they found home in each other.
3. The chemsitry between leads is so good.
4. Introvert ML and extrovert FL trope is so well done. In most dramas, the ML is often shown as cold or arrogant instead of actually representing an introvert person. But in this drama, you can actually see how the ML is an intorvert who opened up after the FL pursued him and made him feel comfortable. So I really liked how well made his character was.
5. This might be the first cdrama where the 2nd leads love story isn't random or just for the sake of plot. It was actually really interesting and adorable to see them together. I was rooting for them since the first few episodes.
6. There is healthy relationship between the leads where they communicate properly instead of giving cold shoulder to each other. They always understnd each other and support each other unconditionally.
7. This is a really light and fluffy drama where there are no heavy scenes. Just pure love and happiness.
8. The nostalgic feeling of school life is so strong.

To anyone hesitating to watch this drama, please don't hesitate and go for it. This is the type of drama that you need in a stressful life. The type of drama that makes you feel good about life and an escape from reality. So just dive into this drama and enjoy the journey of two people who are the representation of right person at the right time.
