A Body-Swap Romance That Turns Comedy Into Genuine Connection.

"The Day of Becoming You" is a refreshing and heartfelt romantic comedy that tells the story of Jiang Yi, a cold and reserved idol, and Yu Sheng Sheng, a warm and lively entertainment reporter. After a freak accident causes them to switch bodies, their lives-and their understanding of each other-are completely turned upside down. What starts as chaos and comedy slowly transforms into something deeper, as they begin to see beyond each other's surface and into the pain, pressure, and sincerity that both have been carrying alone. The drama strikes a beautiful balance between humor, emotion, and character growth.

Jiang Yi is the kind of male lead who doesn't easily show emotions, especially at the beginning. As an idol used to being guarded, he struggles to express his feelings openly-but through the body switch, we get to see his heart in ways words could never revealed.

He begins to show love through small, thoughtful gestures, protectiveness, and quiet care. Once you understand the loneliness and pressure he hides behind his cold image, his silence makes sense-and his actions become even more meaningful. That's what makes him so lovable: he's not flashy or overly romantic, but every step he takes toward Sheng Sheng is genuine and full of feelings.

"The Day of Becoming You" shows that sometimes, love isn't about grand declarations-it's about understanding, patience, and quietly showing up for someone, even when words fall short.

9/11/2021 = 8.75 rating

I read many good things about this drama and I like Steven Zhang, so I decided to give it a try, even though I am not a big fan of body-swapping. I was so close to giving this drama a 9.0 rating, but held back because I feel conflicted about the last 2 episodes.

What I like:
1. Plot - I do agree that the body swapping was done pretty well, compared to "Secret Garden". I feel that there are just enough episodes about body-swapping in the first part of the drama to keep me interested and engaged, without dragging on for too long. I also appreciate that the swapping doesn't just end when they switched back. That would be too easily resolved and the whole plot will end and just fill with other side stories. This drama could have fallen into the trap of many common tropes, but instead, it makes fun of them.

2. Acting - I have been a fan of Steven Zhang (ML) and am glad to see him in a different role. The other roles that he's in are usually the happy, outgoing teenager/young adult role. He's a more mature, cool and introverted character here, and he did a great job in portraying that. Of course, he's super funny and in character when playing the "female" character. I've seen Liang Jie (FL) in "Eternal Love" and didn't like that drama at all. I dropped it and didn't like Liang Jie's character. I am glad to wipe that bad taste off my mouth and watch her in this drama. Just like Steven Zhang, she was great in her role. I think as a female playing the male part, audience might not notice her acting as much as Steven's male character playing a female role. But I like the subtle acting and facial expressions, just the more masculine mannerisms that she portrays.

3. Characters - I enjoy watching a drama with no real villains, though I don't like ML's dad. Most C-dramas portray villains in rom-coms to be too cartoonish and over-the-top for my taste. So I am glad we don't have such characters in this drama. Moreover, another pet peeve of mine is innocent/naive/dumb characters. I am also happy to see that almost everyone is pretty smart in their own ways and act their age . Even our leads who are having their first real relationship are acting age-appropriately, and not some 30-year virgins who are too shy to even hold hands. I appreciate a real adult romance. Moreover, we have cute and supportive parents like our female lead's parents, and a great BFF for our FL.

4. Romance - As I mentioned earlier, I appreciate a real adult romance. Once the leads are in a relationship, they are honest and communicative. They are not afraid to flirt or show affection for each other. I find their romance cute but not so sweet that is unbearable or cringey. Their romance is very heartwarming to me. FL is just ML needs to be able to overcome his bad childhood memories. I enjoy seeing such a great supportive relationship.

5. Clothing - For once, not only the male characters dress handsomely, but our female characters are dressed well. I like that the girls are casual at home, but dress nicely and appropriately when at work. I've seen too many overly baggy casual well that female characters wear in C-dramas. Even though this is not a drama about fashion, I am glad to see our leads have a great wardrobe.

6. Comedic moments - The sound effects do add to the comedic moments of the show. There are many funny moments, not only during the body-swapping plot, but sprinkled throughout the drama. I find these moments funny but not over-the-top or slapstick funny. It was quite funny when FL explained why she never gave the love letter to doctor.... that's quite creative and unpredictable.

What I don't Like:
1. Product Placement - I understand PP is a big part of Korean and Chinese dramas, and I accept that. But in this show, I am sick and tired of seeing those snacks. They advertise those snacks in every episode (at least it feels this way). It's a bit much. Also, do we need several characters to suddenly catch a cold to advertise the cold medicine?

2. Music - I like the songs OK, but they play the English song " I See You" a bit much. The worst is that the background music is so loud and makes it hard to listen to the dialog.

3. Ending - I have mixed feelings about the noble idiocy and the time jump. I understand why the leads have to break up and I see where the ML is coming from. I just wish there's a better way to show that. I really dislike the trope where the leads break up before the final episode, then a time jump in the final episode and they reunite and live happily ever after. We know they are going to break up, as it's hinted in the very first episode. I was also a little taken back that all this happened in a novel written by FL. For some reason, I expect her to quit being a reporter and become an author, and then write about her love story.

Want more:
I am interested to see more about Tong Hua and Pei Jia Shu's relationship. They have pretty good chemistry and I wanted to see them get together.

Sweetest body swaping story of cutest couple

First of all very thankful to whole" the day of becoming you" team for this wonderful light hearted sweet romantic drama. Liang jie character as yu sheng is bubly , sweet independent women and Stephen Zhang as jiang yi seems cold n inexpressive due to his family issues but in reality he lack that warmth. Both are characters are nice n has healthy relationship . All the supporting characters also good . I didn't felt cringey when Stephen acted as yu sheng he pulled that girliness really well. Liang jie also did a good job. No angst , no long breakup . Good kissing scenes with good chemistry between leads. Body swapping helped them to get to know each other better.
If any k-pop gans , knetizens n Chinese fans obsessed watching this dram one thing u should observe that how would actors , idols feels when u talk toxic about people they love can do to them . Idols n actors don't belong to u guyz . They hv their own life they can date who ever they want. Instead bashing them with ur hard comments wish them happiness that ll make them happy too . They will also feel that they got sincere fans. Overall drama was very nice. Bravo 👏👏👏👏 💕💕💕😘😘😘

HILARIOUS Rom-Com!!!

First of all, HILARIOUS!!! I had this on my list for quite sometime now and remembered it when I watched "You Are My Lover Friend". Zhang Xin Cheng is great actor and I love his work. This drama, I loved it so much. The leads had great chemistry, no boring episodes and lovely kissing scenes. I also loved that Liang Jie wardrobe was modern and looked beautiful in every scene.
Though the lead is an idol, they didn't show much of them singing/acting, which I think gave it a good balance to the storyline. the series focused on the lead's relationship, and how they adapt to each other lives when they switch bodies. They both did their best to work through the changes and got along with their family dnd friendship.
Overall, it was an amazing rom-com, sweet, charming and unique.

A funny, Romantic, happy ride

Hats off to Zhang Xingchang and Liang Jie for their flexible roles. A perfect cast consisting of members from Le coup de Foudre, Go ahead , Skate into love. Decent OST, Worth re-watching the funny scenes again. Looking forward to watch more dramas of Liang Jie as I have almost completed every drama of Steven. They should have showed a bit more of Pei Ja Shu and Tong Hua and something funny for Jiang Dua chaun. Directors , story writers don't get enough recognition . They have done a great job here.

Not Bad for a Gender Body Switchroo

We had this on our watchlist since last year, the trailer didn't look that compelling so it was postponed for a bit but I'm glad we decided to give it a try. Don't like to watch shows where the character is a celebrity or its about the entertainment business, its not interesting. This show managed to make it work. Don't bother trying to apply any logic, rationale, or thinking to the series and why the body switch occurs.

The gist of it is an aloof male celebrity and an entertainment reporter do multiple body gender switchroos.

- Jokes, Jokes, and more Jokes. It pokes fun at itself, it makes fun of Asian drama cliches, and at celebrity idol culture and worship.
- Great chemistry between the leads and decent acting with the gender swap that happens repeatedly. The ML does overact sometimes during the swap. The development of their romance was good, a bit of a slow burn but a fair amount of hilarity in between. The part where the ML swapped with the FL and experiences his first period was pretty funny, of course he had to wear a white dress to top it all off.
- No long drawn out boring SML or SFL stories, the focus is mainly on the leads. It focuses on how they handle the gender body swap situations and their growing affection and attraction for each other.

Didn't really care for the backstory of the family dynamics of the ML, it felt like they were trying to force some trauma family story to add some complexity to his character and rationale for why he was moody and aloof.

I'd compare this series to kinda like going to an amusement park, its fun, its not part of normal life, and it takes your mind off all that studying you were supposed to do. I felt they were able to make it work between a male celebrity and a non celebrity average person because of the extraordinary circumstances that pushed them together.

Are you ready to laugh? me? I'm done

I've already watched the two leads in their other dramas and they impressed me more with this drama. Steven's acting is surprising and it really goes with his pretty face. I'm not surprised that Liang Jie can pull of the character because I've seen her acting like this with her other dramas. I love the story plot and twists. I love that they put parents that are protective but not controlling. It's just that I am not a fan of long time separation. All in all, it has some flaws but i really liked it generally.

Body swap done right

I would say this is the top drama in the genre of romantic comedy. It managed to excel in both romance as well as comedy which I believe is an amazing feat. This was body swap done right. I tend to fast forward a lot as most of you know because I have to take out some time to live my own life! But the story line and every day mundane tasks were so stinking cute that I was inexorably pulled in. I was constantly giggling or laughing out loud. They poked fun at the cliches etc and humor was so fresh.

Really kudos to both leads as they did an awesome job. The ML was just outstanding and managed the nuances of being a female so very well. The side characters especially the second leads were lovable and I managed to watch all of them. The ending was very well done in my opinion. People have been criticizing the ending but take another look as they tried to make it more realistically plausible and nothing really changed for the relationship of all characters.

So if you want to relax, have fun and laugh, go watch this drama.

Lovely skinship and the female participation was the way it should be.

Mixed feeling emotion roller coaster ride which ended up being nice somehow?? But loved it!!!

The reason behind my title is from ep 1 to ep 26...what i thought i could predict didnt happen...not your regular cdrama series what i mean os...When i saw the trailer, i thought normal cdrama that the Main couple will exchange bodies for once then they will fall in love.....and the story continues....

What attracted me the story concept , a star falling in love with a entertainment reporter....it may sound us funny or ridiculous....but its actually not....its not necessary that they shouldnt fall in love together....love can happen anytime or anyone. We are no one to judge....so this Main couples's occupation perked me up to give it a try. Also this cdrama is based solely on pov of the Main couple. As the drama focuses more on them and less on the other stories in the drama.

What i didnt expect is for them to switch bodies more than 1 time....total 3 times their bodies switched.....so i must say the acting of Main leads was fantastic. Its not easy to act as a girl in guy's body and guy in a girl's body....they tried their level best to execute and give us the accurate feeling. I also wanted to watch this show because of steven too.

All the actors some of them where familiar faces did amazing job on acting their roles....even i liked the acting of Jiang Yi 's driver...the direction was good that the actor/actresses gave their level best. The OST is so soothing, good to hear.

Now the thing what i thought normal light weight cdrama turned out to be a roller coaster or semi weight drama....its NOT a simple story where just think they swap their bodies....its more to it...broken family, trust issues....basically what we see in stars life in real and fans reaction, dating life etc etc.

The writer tried to mix all...from a group band to dating a celeb to even swap bodies in a story which at the end of episode the FL reveals that this novels is based on their love story But its not actually ttheir love story...for once i couldnt process this because 25 episode witnessing what all the writer made the story and at the end i hear its just based upon....first im happy they are together in real life story but at the end im like why...mixing all up....its like pineapple pizza some may like or digest the combination and some may not.

So idk why writer did it but at the end of the day ,it didnt matter to me coz each episode or the ML were cute, lover dovey ,cute scenes gave me gitters ,its all good. Because of this mixing up of diff plots into one...i guess the writer ,direction also werent able to give focus on other roles properly...like i would have liked to see tong and pie jai shu as second couple....but I guess this drama is fully based on story pov that is Main Lead's story which is actually a novel which was going to end with a bad ending and from there the novel starts oops im sorry the story starts.. and its in 1st ep more like first 2 scenes....

Sorry if you got confused now.....you will understand clearly after you watch it....till ep 20 or even ep 21 you can relax and enjoy the drama till there its about how they got into relationship and their cute scenes of being in a relatio ship...but after that all the roller coaster ride begins....if you want you may skip certain scenes or watch clips and then watch the last episode where FL explains or tells about her sudden change of mind of ending the novel with a good ending... Which you may relate with the first episode where she talks to her manager or someone in the call....like in 26th episode we get to the exact thing.

Its the emotional sample of her real love life that the writer in the drama Shen Yu took and made a novel so the NOVEL is just a fantasy or imagination the writer created and she took bits and pieces of her real love life put and added more imagination to it made a novel. This idea struck her where she lacked inspiration also She and Yi Jiang had troubles in their love life...where one day he told her that how he wishes that one day if he and her exchange bodies so that she can understand the feeling of being a star and concerns or problems being a star....this line said by him gave her the insipiration to create this novel as what we saw till the point the FL explains the whole thing (till 26th ep around mid scene). And in the both be it novel drama what we saw and shen yu the writer's real love life in both the couple got an happy ending.

I hope this cleared some doubts...it will be worth of your time if you are ready to expirience this bumpy ride where you will question alot of things but at the end it wont matter also....its a good cdrama where the writer tried to make good plot and direction given is excuted properly with amazing cast who put their level best. I hope you all the like the drama who still havent watched but are planning to watch and also helped you to make the decision.

SUPERB Acting by both Liang Jie and Steven Zhang

I am fascinated by Liang Jie performance in ‘Time Flies and You are Here’ where to me her performance is very good, and I started to look for her other series and came across this one: ‘The Day of Becoming You’.

In ‘The Day of Becoming You’, Liang Jie is pairing up with Steven Zhan where I remember seeing him in ‘Go Ahead’.

‘The Day of Becoming You’ tells a story of entertainment reporter – Yu Sheng Sheng (Liang Jie) – and famous boyband star – Jiang Yi (Steven Zhang). Under certain circumstances they switch bodies.

You may predict that this will be typical boring body switching stories… Well YOU ARE WRONG! Although the broad idea of body switching may not new or original but the way the story goes and how the script is built are quite surprising to me.

The most that I appreciate on this series is the ACTING from both main leads. They can bring the character very well and make the character alive. The chemistry between them is also mesmerizing. Even when they switch bodies, Yu Sheng Shen becomes Jiang Yi and Jiang Yi becomes Yu Sheng Sheng, their acting is fascinating.

Yu Sheng Sheng as female reporter, lively, energetic, full of emotion and once swapped as Jiang Yi, she becomes cold, emotionless, a bit manly despite of in Yu Sheng Sheng body.

On the other hand Jiang Yi a cold, reserved and hide his emotion person when he swapped as Yu Sheng Sheng in Jiang Yi’s body, he becomes so girly, lively, full of emotion depicting Yu Sheng Sheng character very well.

So, KUDOS to both actors for bringing good acting and bring lots of fun, sweet, romance and affection, full of emotion moments in the series.

Another thing that is also good in this series, that will be the soundtrack. Beautiful song in this series: My Soul, I See You, Crush On, Whisperer. The way they use the soundtrack to emphasize certain scene is superb and spot on, brings more emotions on that scene.

My personal preference is “I See You”. Listening to this song is really moving and brings out a lot of emotion, deep love, despair, longing feelings… really a good song.

So, this is a must see series if you love to watch GOOD ACTING, sweet romantic chemistry of the actors.

Body Swapping High Jinx

This is the first time I've seen either main actors. I am quite impressed

Pros:
The plot - it keeps moving! None of the scenes were wasted
The acting - Both Steven Zhang and Liang Jie nailed their roles. I can readily tell when they were playing each other. Being a fan of idols - I kept seeing Steven Zhang - acting like one of my favourite idols. I am not familiar with his personality but he was really convincing as an idol. Liang Jie - was great acting like a guy. She was cute but not overly cute.
The chemistry! both leads had great chemistry with each other.
The family/friends - I liked how close they were with each other. He had a wonderful manager and group mates.

Cons
The beginning and end scene. What was that about? It lessened the show for me, made it seem less magical.

Overall, I recommend this drama. I don't typically watch modern cdramas - because I find them draggy. But I really enjoyed this one.

This was rather enjoyable!!!

I binge-watched this show in two days and was not disappointed. While it's true that the body-switching angle has been done in C-dramas time and time again, this show did a great job keeping it fresh and entertaining.

The ML (Zhang Xin Cheng as Jiang Yi) and FL (Liang Jie as Yu Sheng Sheng) did a wonderful job portraying each other after the body swap. I was especially tickled to see Zhang Xin Cheng act as Yu Sheng Sheng-I could imagine it would have been difficult for him to stay in character without bursting out laughing.

It's a simple slice-of-life story showing the relationship difficulties that can arise for the typical Asian celebrity/influencer, especially when they decide to date a regular person. The twist is that there's some body-swapping going on every now and then.

Don't set your expectations so high that you become distracted critiquing the rationale behind every single plot deficiency. This show is meant to be light-hearted, warm, and fuzzy. It'll lighten your mood and possibly even get a squeal or two out of you.

Just be sure to make it past episode 1, or you might be tempted to give up and miss out on a really good series.

8/10-highly recommended!
