cute, but why the hype?

Full disclaimer: I watched it in 2025. It was one my first watched thai Bls, after Laws of Attraction and Until We Meet Again.

I am an Asian, so this type of enemies to lovers story is not new in this part of the world, its been done so many times. Heck, its Romeo and Juliet minus the tragedy. To me this story wasn't novel, the uni scenes were standard college interaction, the romance wasn't heated, I felt bored mid-way and skipped some scenes, yet I persevered through to understand what the hype was all about. And.. I just don't get it. It was by no means bad, pretty decent for BL standards, but it didnt meet the expectation I had for this BL. The actors looked great but their acting left much to be desired. UWMA on the other hand is older and the story was much more impactful than this one.
This show feels dated, but even for 2021. I remember watching this type of family enemies to lovers concept in the 90s television.

I wish I could inject this show into my veins

Before I get into my review, I find it imperative that I mention my list of Pat’s best t-shirts:

- “I’d rather hunt with Dick Cheney than ride with Ted Kennedy” (absolutely wild pull and a wild statement)
- Tim Hortons (which has 10 locations in Thailand to be fair)
- Baseball mom (Worn in one of the most pivotal scenes in the show)
- Hilton Head (Pretty sure this is a town in South Carolina)
- White Castle (which has no locations in Asia lmao)
- Proud to be a Noles Hater (I get the whole rivalry thing, but why college teams in Florida?)
- California shirt with “heir bin ich mensch heir kauf ich ein” below the logo which means “here I am human, here I shop” in german
- Sex Air & Sun
- Lucky Charms

Also, why does that bar have a near-life-size Hulk statue with a hole in the pants opening up his entire asscrack to the world? Nbd, just wondering…

Acting:

Everyone did an amazing job in this. They really brought this story to life it wasn’t stilted at all even in some of the cornier scenes. Ohm and Nanon were so absolutely phenomenal. Nanon’s side eye had me cackling and his look of incredulity was so real 10/10. The supporting cast were all amazing too. BRAVOOO

Writing:

Were there a couple of questionable story decisions in this? Sure sure sure. I mean, be so ffr rn with that rugby player not only being strapped w/o a holster, but then pulling it out to threaten/fight someone because of a rugby match in a nice area of the city? But I digress, this shit still slapped through and through like idec lmao. Some of those lines were evil to my little gay heart. Pat unknowingly casually destroying Pran a little bit inside when he said, “let’s see you find someone half as good as me” is diabolical writing in that scene… Idec if it made no sense that they had to not only fund and find the materials for the bus stop (that as it was before the fight definitely cost around $500 at most plus the cost of the security camera), but they also had to design and build it for some reason. And did the sponsorship thing make any sense either? No. But again, all of this will not keep me from rating even the story as high as I am abandoning rationality for this one. Plus, overall it's a great story so whatever.

Chemistry/Romance/Kissing:

The chemistry was utterly insaaaane, my guyyy. They were so good at portraying rivals, normal young guys, maybe friends, two bros in a limbo of ambiguity, two dudes openly yearning for each other, bros in love, boyfriends, etc. It was weird going to MDL to check info about a character and being reminded that Pran and Pat are fictional and not a married couple somewhere in Thailand rn. This was such a good romance. Beginning to end, through and through. The kissing was well performed, believable/realistic.

Side characters:

I just want to note that Korn and Wai and the rest of those idiots had me ready to throw hands. Korn became a homie and then I was left with all that hate directed at Wai bc how are you gonna act like that at your age smh. Then Wai became a bro so ig it’s alright… I’ll still beat the shit outta those parents though. Grown ass adults holding grudges to that extent… You’d think someone was murdered and Pat’s dad got away with it or some shit. Girlypop, I get you’re mad and I’m not saying you can’t be but like look at your life now, you’re fine, work this out with a therapist or like meditate on it for a while, geez.

Music/SFX/Audio:

Just Friend? a certified banger. 10/10, on repeat, crying in my room, in the car, in the club, at the dentist. My first GMMtv drama so SFX took a second to get used to, but I grew to like them pretty quick. But most notably, how many times did they peak the mic in this series LMAOOOOO. I stg I was cackling every time that mic peaked, it was hilarious.

This was just so amazing. First episode started out and I was like wtf is happening, why are these freshman architecture and engineering majors having a fist fight? Go do your homework, nerds. But after a little while, something hit me and my eyebrows shot up and my smile got all big and goofy and I had to laugh because damn, they really got me with this one. GOOOD SHIIIIIIIII. Someone find a way to put this into a liquid that I can shoot into my veins regularly.

Edit 10/7/25 - it's been like 2 months since I watched this and somehow only a couple weeks since I learned about everything that conspired afterwards...:
If there's an alternate universe out there where Ohm and Nanon perform a duet version of Just Friend? together I'm finna be in the pit. That would be my 1997 Silver Springs.

I wasn't expecting this to be that good!!

I actually heard about this series 2 years ago i think and i only watched it now. I thought it was overrated and yk the typical thai bl you watch, my thought was proven wrong, this series left a huge impact on my views on thai bls that are popular, ever since i watched it ive started to watch other Thai bls, this series was the 2nd one i actually finished. Now the series IT SOO GOOD, the plot is great especially the acting, the acting was so good to the point people started to think they were actually together. I want a season 2 please gmmtv. Overall a nice series i would recommend it to my friends, only if they weren't homophobic lols. 🙉🙉

First Episode: Wow.

This is my first time reviewing a series here. And Bad Buddy? Met my expectations. After the first episode, I just found myself in my bed, screaming and blushing so hard. This is just the first episode, I know. We'll see...

Here are the cons and pros for me.

Pros: A well-mixed comedy and a serious one.
: Fast flashbacks/backstories. That was a good one.

Cons: The problem with the GMMTV premiere of the first cut of the first episode (EP.1, 1/4). A bit disappointed. We could have enjoyed watching the episode with the comments on it.

Straight-up Fire!!!

This is the first drama I've given straight across tens to in the rating. I'm only 6 episodes in but my enthusiasm made me come here to write this. Obviously I'm late to the party and even now, it took me a few episodes before I stopped doubting the hype. When it started, I thought the two leads were kind of cute, sometimes a bit plain. By episode 4 they began to sparkle in every scene like the cutest of heavenly creatures. Their chemistry started chemistrying and I started sqeeing at practically every scene they were in together. The banter, the giggles, the eye contact even the fights. These two bounce off of each other like magnetically charged electrons, emitting sparks in their wakes. Toxic masculinity on display here, but not glorified at all. The writing is so good, the actors (especially the leads) are phenomenal, the sound track is nigh perfect. OK enough gushing from me, but if you've been putting this one off like I did, this is your signal to cue it up on Viki or whatever platform you have access to asap. A rewatch is definitely in the cards for me and I am so happy I'm only half way through it and have several more hours of bliss.

The Kiss and Everything Else

Rated = 6 ~ 25/50 ~ 5
RPG Scene // A flurry of fairies surrounding me on mountain pass and dazzling me with their twinkling lights, that I drop my battle axe down the ravine. Damn.

If there is one thing I can praise this show on is the kiss scene. They took the time to build up the feels and then let it explode into a really passionate kiss. I appreciate that and I actually rewatched it a few times. So points.

This is unfortunately one of those shows for me where it starts off fine, then gets super tense for that kiss scene, and then just kind of trails off eventually to basically being back to where they started from.
I found, for the most part, one half of the pair annoying. I don't like the 'jock, always in your face' type characters because he's basically just annoying his crush until he relents. I dont find that endearing.
The friends were the usual, barely thinking characters we usually get unless there's drama to be created.
I can understand the parents at war with each other but the Uni as well, I felt like were always pitting the two faculties together which, honestly for me, felt a little dumb. Why would a social setting do that and then complain when fights break out? Wha?
By ep 9 I was skipping because I just wanted it to end.
The ending, I can deal with. I guess it's somewhat realistic but at the same time, also feels a bit stupid. Perhaps it was more just simply how it was written that feels a bit of silly.

Ultimately, the Kiss was great, 10/10, I gave a whole extra point for it but I'm unlikely to rewatch the show.

Just not interesting...

"Bad Buddy" really wasn't attention-grabbing. I watched the first episode, started the second episode, and decided to drop it. It's another "Romeo and Juliet" remake, with an enemies-to-lovers trope, I guess. It doesn't seem bad, but it doesn't seem original enough to really enjoy. The characters weren't really that interesting, though there did seem to be potential. The jokes weren't very funny. The brawls felt cliche. There's not much more to say. Maybe this would be good to watch if one is bored or is new to BL, but it really doesn't have much going for it. Maybe it was overhyped.
