Heartbreaking Letdown for Fans (READERS ONLY)

As someone who absolutely loved the original web novel, this movie was nothing short of a massive disappointment. Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint had so much potential—complex characters, rich world-building, and intense emotional stakes—but the film completely butchered it.

The pacing was rushed, major plot points were either skipped or glossed over, and the character development was almost non-existent. Kim Dokja, who is supposed to be a deeply layered protagonist, felt flat and emotionless. Even Yoo Joonghyuk, a fan favorite, was reduced to a generic tough guy with barely any depth.

The CGI felt unfinished at times, and the action scenes, while flashy, lacked emotional weight. Worst of all, the storytelling felt shallow, like it was made for people unfamiliar with the source material. For fans, it felt like a betrayal. For newcomers, it probably just felt confusing.

Honestly, if you’re a fan of the novel or webtoon, save yourself the heartbreak. This adaptation missed the mark completely.

Honestly, why bother even naming this a live action when you cannot even respect the original resource that this came from? This movie is so far off from the novel and manhwa that I knew, so much mischaractirizations that it makes my head ache, why would you even bother making this absolute sht show movie when all it does is bring people into our Fandom that's much more toxic than the others? It would be better off if you could just leave our orv alone.

Utterly Disappointing

‎As I leave my review here I'm still thinking that 1 star review is such a waste If there is a 0 star review then that's what I'm picking!

‎Why this LA is disappointing I have 49/51 of reason to say this is disappointing but let me just state the 11 things why this is trash LA.

‎1. The background of the story - what do you mean kdj wants to save the world this guy doesn't give a quack about others, he just wants to reach the end of the scenario with his companions.

‎2. The Title - what prophecy disappointment is this? This guy is not a prophet he does not care about others and do not share his knowledge about TWSA that he read I don't see any prophecy in the ORV manwha or Novel mayber you're talking about lee seolhwa but kdj what a jk.

‎3. The Guns - IT'S A FREAKING HISTORY RELATED MANWHA ABOUT YOUR HISTORICAL CONSTELLATIONS?! Maybe Gong Pildu uses machine guns etc but the others are using swords specially Lee Jihye and Yjh. Just what the heck

‎4. YJH attire and hair style - Yjh has a black long trench coat with leather shoes and beneath this long coat is a black shirt with this unique design of white buckle in the middle that almost looks like a priest uniform, but the LA has this dusty and dirty looking costumes like he was rolling in the dust and dirt all the time. He also has short black slightly curly hair, but the YJH LA looks like he is out of the salon after a rebond. And his freaking using gun just wtquack 😭 what's wrong with you?!!!

‎5. Pildu is a grandpa now - really LA? What the heck Pildu is a Middle age man like a fat gangster not like this old man he looks like a grandpa not a mister or an uncle.

‎6. Lee Gilyoung - has this fearless look and always ready, not this kid that looks like he needed his mom all the time

‎7. Bihyung looks like a labubu - what the quack did you do to our dokkaibei you make him looks like a labubu with cape😭 our Bihyung has this scary look but cute and fluffy and he wears a looks like a rug clothes and his a freaking white not this blue labubu flying labubu with a cape. Just wtquack I'm really shocked is your budget this tight?

‎8. Yoo sang-ah doesn't heal - she doesn't heal she kills

‎9. Jung Heewon using a Dagger instead of a sword - really a Dagger? What is this solo leveling? She's a freaking sword user not a dagger!!!! And coins instead of blood that's where the hype came from and you just take it all.

‎10. Lee hyunsung - I just don't see him the big brown bear look the LA version doesn't come close to the Manwha version he looks like he can crash you with his palm without second thought while the manwha and novel is such a big sweet bear.

‎11. KIM DOKJA - Kim dokja is shorter than yjh, his body is slender and skinny because he was severely malnutritious when he was a kid, not this bulky guy in LA, kdj did not shout like that when yjh choked him and throw him to feed to the monster infact his even smiling to get on yjh nerves

‎This is really disappointing I can write more but I should stop now! Pls don't watch this.

Solid!

I just saw on Tiktok about this Movie and it gets a lot of hype. I tried watching it without knowing what this is all about. I am just sure due to some clips that it has a lot of visual effects so I got really curious. Guess what this drama was a Webtoon I read months ago or maybe last year?

How it started or the first few clips while Ahn Hyo Seop was narrating just reminded me of the webtoon. I just admire how Korean do their webtoon, dramas and series - it was all worth watching. I can't believe that this was how it will be made on a live action. I was really amazed. There might be some action lapses or kind of awkward with the effects but it was minimal and just perfectly fit the webtoon feels.

It was solid. I do not know why it was rated low here in MDL but I am looking forward to the next installment.

Large scale cinematic event

Korean filmmakers are really brave and fearless when it comes to making this type of huge blockbusters, the technological prowess and grueling effort required to produce such a large scale cinematic event is way beyond imagination, but it's safe to say that the outcome of this movie is satisfying enough with storytelling vision that is quite groundbreaking. The world building is extensive and very well crafted with stakes design that are significant right from the start to finish, that adrenaline pumped visuals and high octane fighting sequences really is something else to appreciate on the big screen, Korean cinema is just going to get more astonishing than ever.

Underrated and Unfairly Hated!!!!

People started attacking Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy long before it even came out lol, and honestly, it never deserved that hate. Most of the harsh and unnecessary reviews are from readers of the original web novel/manhwa who expected the movie to copy every single detail and blah blah. When it didn’t, they turned against it completely, not just that they started judging it the moment the first trailer was released and would make memes of it or laugh at how the goblins look like 💀 seriously tho wtf!! But that’s the thing!! movies can’t always follow every scene or dialogue from the source. What matters is the essence and this movie captured that beautifully, agree with it or not.

The rest of the hate mostly comes from people who never even watched it but got swayed by those same negative reviews. It’s like everyone jumped on the hate train without thinking for themselves, just like that male character who started attacking the old lady, kill the ants not the ajummah.

Once you actually sit down and watch it, you can see the effort and heart the team put into this project. The visuals, the energy, the acting, all of it shows genuine respect for the source material (Actually I don't like something, cgi is not that good lol but still)

Kim Dokja’s portrayal especially felt emotional and grounded.

So yeah, Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy is criminally underrated and unfairly hated. I really hope the cast and crew don’t let the noise get to them and give us a second movie, because this story deserves to continue, and to be appreciated for what it truly is. Many of us are waiting for a second movie.

So again, just give it a try, watch it for the genre, characters, and plot, not for the sake of rating/reviewing, wasting time, or just cause you wanna watch something and then end up lashing at them for no good reason.

A Stand-Alone Gem from a Parallel Universe

My boyfriend, a huge manhwa fan, highly recommended Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy, and honestly, I went in with mixed expectations. The early reviews were pretty low, mostly from fans of the original webtoon, so I was surprised by how much I ended up loving it. Even without reading the source material, the movie hooked me. Lee Min Ho’s performance was great, the premise was gripping, and the CGI was top-notch.

As someone who used to read a lot, I get why webtoon fans were disappointed. Many scenes were cut or changed, but I understand that what works in a serialized story doesn’t always translate well to the big screen. Out of curiosity, I started reading the webtoon afterward, and yes, it’s much denser and packed with more details. Still, I see the movie and webtoon as two versions of the same world: parallel universes, each with its own charm.

The movie stands strong on its own. It’s cohesive, beautifully made, and doesn’t need the webtoon to make sense. For me, it’s a solid 10/10 experience, not because it’s perfect, but because it found its own identity instead of trying to mimic the original.

📌 Watch this if you love fantasy-action stories that balance visual spectacle with thoughtful adaptation, and aren’t afraid to see a beloved story from a different lens.

A well-made live-action adaptation

The Korean film «Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy» («전지적 독자 시점») is an adaptation based on the still-ongoing Korean webtoon «Omniscient Reader» which itself is based on a Korean novel of the same name. (That was a long sentence!)

While many gave it a low rating and were not satisfied, I was very satisfied and gave it a perfect 10 ⭐. Here's why:

1. It's an adaptation of a very long and still on-going serial novel and webtoon.
2. Adaptation writers have literary freedom on how to adapt a work of art in a differeet medium and target audience.
3. Like it or not: budget constraints.

Most, if not all, who gave it a low score expected it will cover beyond the plot in the movie. It just is not possible. And if they dod that, they will have to skip a lot of critical moments of the story which will also earn far more negative reviews than what it received for this release.

The acting were good. The choice of actors were generally who one would have imagined while reading the novel or the webtoon. I'm not saying I agreed with all the casting but they did well for their respective roles.

The special effects and CG passed. It wasn't perfect, there were fight scenes were the different layers (real layer, green/digital layer) were not smooth nor clean, and were obvious. They need to improve their technique and technology if they plan on making a sequel.

The chosen parts of the story, I approve of it as well.

Last but one of the most complained about, I also approve of the obvious changes. It fits the film format, and the essence of this "chapter" of the story were maintained as it was in the original source material. That is the most important on adaptations. It is not about incorporating every scene, or having the exact likeness for the characters, or making sure the sequence of events remain exactly the same. No, that is just wrong in adaptations. What matters is keeping the essence of it. The feels. The aura. The message. What made the original material popular. That's what a real adaptation is.

A perfect 10 ⭐. Now, where's the sequel? The next "chapter" is one of my favourites.

Epic Setup & VFX, but Soulless Adaptation

➥ TL;DR Review:
Best Bits: Stunning visual effects, solid performances from the cast.
Worst Bits: Everything else. Story, pacing, character depth—meh.
Watch It? Only if you’re killing time or have a soft spot for the actors. Otherwise, skip.

➥ Detailed Review:

I haven’t read the original web novel, so this review is purely based on the movie. My rating is honestly generous - entirely for the visual effects and the sheer effort the cast and crew poured into this otherwise clunky adaptation.

When the movie was first announced, I was hyped. I’m a sucker for stories where characters slip into fictional worlds—think W or Extraordinary You. Plus, it starred my OG K-drama crush, Lee Min Ho. His recent projects haven’t wowed me, but nostalgia’s a powerful thing. Then came Ahn Hyo Seop, one of my absolute faves. I’ve watched him grow from Splash Splash Love to 30 but 17 and of course, the delightful Business Proposal. With a cast like that, how could I not be curious?

I didn’t catch the movie right away, but I kept tabs on the reviews—and they weren’t kind. So by the time I watched it (Oct 2, 2025), my expectations were comfortably low. I was ready for a time-pass flick, nothing more.

And that’s exactly what I got.

The story had potential but felt rushed and undercooked. Honestly, it might’ve worked better as a mini-series. Some character arcs—Dok-ja, Hyeon Seong, Hui Won, Ji Hye—were surprisingly well done given the runtime. Others? Just filler. The emotional beats around teamwork and unity were nice, even heartwarming at times. I mean, who doesn’t want to believe that humanity can come together in a crisis?

But the pacing was all over the place. Exposition was thin, and the ending? It felt like someone hit pause mid-scene and forgot to come back. I kept waiting for a final twist or explanation… and then the credits rolled. The core message—if there was one—was murky at best. I think it was about unity, but that’s me guessing.

Some characters hogged screen time without adding much. The script was weak, and the storytelling didn’t do justice to the world it was trying to build. Someday, I’ll read the original work to cleanse my palate. Because this movie? Left a bitter aftertaste - sadly!

This ain't even ORV

Even 1 star is too generous for this, the director literally half-assed making this live action. This is even worse than Dragon ball!!! I wish I'm blind so I don't have to see even a poster of this abomination of a movie. For everyone saying that novel fans are overreacting, I hope you guys most favorite book got adapted with 99.9% inaccuracies so you'll know how it feels.

As a Fan Of Orv for 5 years, I'm HONESTLY DISAPPOINTED

The LA Changed many things from the Novel. A lot of things doesn't even Match the OG Story. Totally Ruined the Plot

There are a lot of people out there saying that all the negative ratings are Bot accounts & that we are Saying negative comments for no reason. But did you even read the novel???

Do you even know why we are so Angry about the LA ???

If they only cut some scenes from ORV novel I wouldn't really have much of a problem since no Movie can Adapt completely same things that are on the novel. I get it. But no . Did they even try to make it similar???

A BIG NO !!!

Like I don't even know why I even watched this in the first place

Right at the first scene of the movie , Kim Dokja said that He hated the TWSA Novel's ending WHERE only Yoo Joonghyuk was Alive & got told that he should rewrite it then & got a writer skill . Meanwhile in the Novel He NEVER not even ONCE said that he hated TWSA. Like he wouldn't care as long as Only his fav Character, Which is Yoo Joonghyuk is ALIVE. He NEVER EVER GOT A WRITER THE . TO HIM TWSA IS LIKE A HOLY BOOK & YOO JOONGHYUK IS A GOD HIMSELF. So him saying that TSWA is bad is literally like ruining Kim Dokja's Character.

They almost didn't give Yoo Joonghyuk enough screentime at all. They even said that To Kim Dokja Heewon is the main Protagonist & the one Kim Dokja has been Rooting for all the time. But in Novel, Kim Dokja DIDN'T even Remember her cuz she got killed in the early chapters.

In the LA, the reason Destruction Method failed was because it “didn’t make sense and lacked plausibility,” but in ORV it failed because the author was overly obsessed with excessive explanations.

On the train, only 5 people were supposed to survive—so why did 17 survive?

Why wasn’t it an even-numbered bridge

why did Yoo Sang-ah reveal her skill so early?

In the movie, Yoo Joonghyuk asked Kim Dokja on Dongho Bridge, “Why do you think this world became like this?” But in the original, he asked:
“If you’re really a prophet, should I let go of this hand?”

And Kim Dokja’s original reply was:
“Just let go of this hand and get lost. You son of a b//tch.”
But in the movie, it was just: “Yoo Joonghyuk, you b//stard.”

In the LA , Kim Dokja's mother didn't go to jail & Kim Dokja took care of her....... Bro What ??? The whole reason why Kim Dokja started reading the Novel is because Her Mother Killed his father & went to Jail & now that everyone says that he's the son of A Murderer & Bullies him , he got so much depressed that he tried to attempt Suicide . After he failed to suicide did he found TSWA NOVEL & since then HE ONLY WAS ALIVE & DIDN'T THINK OF SUICIDING CUZ HE HAD TO READ THE NOVEL.

YESS THATS HOW IMPORTANT THE NOVEL IS OT HIM!!!

Prison of the Afterlife was clearly supposed to show Kim Dokja’s trauma with his mother, but in the movie it became a scene where Kim Dokja killed his friend. I was so dumbfounded I could only laugh.

Yoo Sangah got a Healer Skill in the LA . Meanwhile in Novel , she alone killed numerous People. She ?? Healing Other people??? That never happened!!!! Yoo Sangah played a great role in Kim Dokja's life as his colleague & Friend ( Not a ship. They are friends. Like brothers & sisters). It's like they literally Turned her whole personality into 360 degree .

In movie they showed that Kim Dokja killed a kid........ BRO THAT NEVER HAPPENED IN THE NOVEL!!!!! BRO DIDN'T KILL ANYONE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL BRO . He instead was the one being Bullied .

He NEVER EVEN TRIED TO HELP KIM NAM WOON . HE LITERALLY TRIED TO KILL HIM & KILLED HIM IN THE FIRST SCENARIO CUZ HE HATED HIM!!!

Kim Dokja NEVER EVER WANTED TO save THE WORLD LIKE THEY SAID IN THE LA . He literally said :

" I'LL SEE LATER IF THIS WORLD IS WORTH SAVING OR NOT "

" IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO MY INCARNATION, I'LL DESTROY THE WHOLE WORLD"

In Chapter 482, during a dramatic press‐conference scene with the Incarnations demanding rescue, Kim Dokja declares bluntly:

“I have no thoughts of saving you. I don’t intend to save you guys at all.”

Gosh whose saving who ??! Bro literally Struggled to survive in almost Half of the Novel .

Lee Jihye is supposed to use a sword—so why does she use a g/un?

At Chungmuro Station, why does Lee Hyunsung evolve his attribute?

And why does the movie add a dragon that doesn’t even appear in Chungmuro Station?

Also, why does Yoo Joonghyuk d/ie there and start his regression? That made no sense at all.

AFTER ALL THESE REASONS I SHOWED, can you even tell me any reason not to hate the LA ???
They didn't just cut scenes . Bro they LITERALLY RUINED EVERY CHARACTERS IMAGE.

The ONLY THING THEY KEPT THE SAME IS THE NAME. OTHER THAN THAT NONE OF THE PLOT OR CHARACTER'S PERSONALITY OR CHARACTERISTICS DOESN'T MATCH AT ALL !!!

A Disgrace to the Original

My first and last review on this website because I'm honestly so upset that one of my favorite novels has been turned into a trashy adaptation that isn't even the same story! You can tell this was made just so the director can get a quick cash grab from fans of the original and fans of the actors (if you're a Blink fan and want to watch this for Jisoo don't bother; the director literally just used her to get money from yall and threw subtle shade towards her, she barely has any screentime too!) There's so much I want to say, but I don't want to repeat what others have said, so just read the rest of the reviews on this because a lot explain in detail how much they butchered the original!

READ THE NOVEL, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS TRASH!!!!!!
