It's not an easy watch!

Okayy I saw people rating the story kind of low and I really don't understand it?! Of course if you want something easy and fluffy you won't like this and shouldn't choose to watch it in the first place.
Personally, this was one of the best storylines this year (if not the best). The acting was great, action scenes were pure cinema, only aspect you can miss is pure romance, because it's simply not about it. We have to understand that romance in this show wasn't supposed to be happy, cute with rainbows and flowers, the plot is not about it. Romance in this show was raw and frustrating and that's what makes the whole show even better!
If you want something simple I won't recommend you to watch this show, but if you're fan of action and you don't need way too many nc scenes and overpowering romance, this show is just for you!

good plot, although the execution of it wasn't great

This is my first review so it might not be very coherent

First i would like to say that although the first thing i noticed while watching the show was that the acting wasn't the greatest, there were still a lot of things that i really did like while it was airing. I thought that the plot idea was great and that the male leads had great chemistry between them. I was always waiting excitedly for a new episode to release and I recommended the show to everyone I thought would appreciate it. But after finishing the show I feel like i probably should have waited to recommend it to others until it finished airing as the show became weaker and weaker towards the end, and I sort of regretted doing so.

The things that I really didn't like about the last few episodes and what put me off from recommending to most people:
- The plot begins to become weak towards the end as they include one plot twist after another, that everything isn't even really that surprising anymore and makes you not really care about what’s occurring (feels like they’re trying to make the last episode really surprising/dramatic as possible, but all of these plot twists just cause it to fall short and feel sort of cheap and rushed).
- The ending feels dumb as they bring back Kong and makes the whole show feel useless to me.
- There is an info dump that feels useless to me as im still confused about the lobbyist (although this might just be me being dumb)

I think that the show didn’t live up to what it could have been considering the great plot they had and the chemistry between the actors. Although I loved that show while it was first airing, by the end of it im not really excited for the second season (although ill probably still watch it as I’m holding on to the hope that theyll make something great out of the good things from this show)

The Bangkok Boy — Ambition Alone Doesn't Create Future Stars

When I finished The Bangkok Boy, my first thought wasn't whether I had enjoyed the story. It was that I couldn't imagine this drama changing anyone's career. That's probably its biggest problem. BL has launched dozens of actors into major stars over the last decade because audiences fell in love with their characters and wanted to follow them into future projects. Unfortunately, I don't think The Bangkok Boy will have that effect.

The series certainly deserves credit for trying something different. Instead of another school or office romance, it dives into Bangkok's criminal underworld, mixing gang conflicts, revenge, violence, and romance. On paper, that's exactly the kind of direction I'd like to see BL explore more often. The genre shouldn't be limited to campus love stories, and I appreciate productions willing to take creative risks. The problem is that The Bangkok Boy never fully develops any of its strongest ideas. It introduces an interesting world but rarely gives its characters enough depth to make that world emotionally engaging.

The story often feels as though it's trying to do too much at once. Between the criminal organisations, personal vendettas, family issues, romance, and action sequences, the script constantly jumps from one storyline to another without allowing any of them to breathe. Instead of building tension, it gradually becomes fragmented. I understood what the writers wanted to achieve, but I rarely felt emotionally invested because the narrative never settled long enough to let the characters grow.

The acting is actually better than my overall score might suggest. The cast handles the action scenes convincingly, and nobody gives what I would call a bad performance. The problem is that very few performances become memorable. Good acting isn't only about delivering dialogue correctly—it's about creating characters people remember long after the drama ends. Here, I finished the series feeling that everyone had done a respectable job, yet none of the actors truly distinguished themselves as future stars.

The chemistry between the leads suffers from the same issue. I never doubted that the characters cared about each other, but I also never reached the point where I became emotionally attached to their relationship. Their romance often feels overshadowed by everything else happening around them. Ironically, a drama that wanted to be bigger than a traditional BL sometimes forgets that its emotional core should still be the relationship between its protagonists.

Visually, however, the production deserves praise. The action choreography is ambitious for a BL, Bangkok is used effectively as more than just a backdrop, and the darker cinematography gives the series a distinct identity compared to the colourful romantic comedies dominating the genre. Director Ping Adisorn Trisirikasem clearly wanted to push BL into more mature territory, and I respect that ambition even if the execution doesn't always match it.

Ultimately, I think The Bangkok Boy is remembered more for what it attempted than for what it accomplished. It had all the ingredients to become something unique—a fresh setting, a darker atmosphere, and a willingness to move away from familiar BL formulas. Unfortunately, it never fully capitalises on those strengths, leaving behind a drama that's perfectly watchable but surprisingly forgettable.

Final Thought

I genuinely appreciate that The Bangkok Boy tried to take BL somewhere different. The ambition is there, and I'd much rather watch a series that takes risks than one that simply repeats old formulas. Unfortunately, ambition alone isn't enough. Without stronger character development and more memorable performances, this never becomes the breakout project its cast probably needed. I don't think this is the drama people will remember when they look back at these actors' careers—and that's perhaps its greatest disappointment.

Plot twist until the end, a love to be treasured in a dark place underground world

Advantages:
+ fast plot, not long-winded, if you watch without missing any details, you will see the plot is as tight as Korean movies
+ extremely good chemistry, very little dialogue but every scene is good, the director did not intentionally zoom in on the face, on the contrary, he also knew how to choose the angle to remove the slightly cringe details to save the actors 😂😂😂
+ good acting, very few scenes that make you frown because of the cringe acting
+ fight scenes are very real, because the actors have actually thrown fists at each other's faces some times, not intentionally slow down, know which scenes to emphasize, not trying to act cool
+ lots of deeply embedded details (South Korean ideology, Chinese restaurant, Peace's painting for Sun 😂😂😂)
Disadvantages:
+the movie color is too headache 😂😂😂
+lots of sudden cut scenes, there are important details of the two main characters that cannot push the audience's emotions up but are left stunned (episode 6, episode 8, episode 11)
+dubbing episode 1 is too cringe 😂😂😂
+the love line of the side couples is too vague

Nearly Perfect~

triggerwarning: Abuse, violence, an instance of gore, SA.

As the headline says, it was nearly perfect, i loved the concept, the camera work, the plot, and the actors (more towards the end, but ill get there later).

I'd say the drama is very much so more a typical crime/action drama with a gay couple rather than a traditional bl, which personally i loved. We need more wish fufillment, perfect happy endings depicting gay people and we will for a long time to come, but we also need dramas that are more grounded and protray these kinds of characters in a similar way to straight folks as well.

The twists were also glorious, They started off kind of obvious but as the story progressed, they just kept getting juicer and juicer, especially when you consider all the foreshadowing that is laced through the show (Jihoon, the icon you are).
The chemistry was chemistrying though the main couple needed more time together.
The story managed to keep me fully engaged all the way through and the characters made me feel something (love for some and immense hate for others)

My only real gripes are character agency and clarity.

The show does an interesting job at giving everyone a decently fleshed out personality but has an issue with agency. The characters with the most agency are very much so Sun, Joe and Jihoon while everyone else feels like a passenger at times which isn't a good look when you consider Peace is also a main character alongside Sun. Speaking of Peace, he's a big example of this you see elements of a well made character there, a smart, capable, artistic person with alot of emotional intelligence and charisma but who barely gets to show it because his trauma causes him to shut down and become stoic, passively allowing others to control his life despite how much he hates what his family is doing and resents himself for being apart of it.
Theres so much flavour there but it feels unsatisfying as his relevance is cut down by the fact the writers makes him feel like a damsel in distress at times even though he's a capable. He gets put through the wringer due to his father's abusive antics and he has unresolved issues with his mother but he never once stands up to his father or makes a connection with his mother and once everything is over and done with, we don't see his reaction to what has happened to his family.

It also struggles with clarity at times, the biggest example of this being Madame Yao and her motivations. On one hand, you have a woman who loved and is grateful towards a man and thus wants to protect his kids yet she pulls a gun on one and potentially allowed the other to be kidnapped and SAed by her righthand man and others. This also goes for Peace to an extent as i only clocked his emotionlessness was coping mechanism by episode 11 of 12, until then it felt more like inconsisent character writing, which is sad considering how good is actor is.

Overrall, a great drama, i can't wait for season 2 and i hope it goes further beyond that as it has the potential to be a very good long running drama.

Oh my!! I need season two right now!!!!

This was fantastic!!

I started this as a BL but wow!! This is much much more than just simply a BL.

Tbh almost all the thai BLs tend to be simple, cute, fluffy, ridiculous with many plot holes stories... but this!! Ooohhhh this!!!!! it feels like a banal abbreviated description to just call it a BL.

Story was good, consistent but with some unrealistic twists, like I understand that you want to surprise the viewer but bringing dead people to live is just too tacky... Nonetheless it was perfectly executed, I couldn't find any plotholes, everything was well explained too, except maybe for the sometimes too good to be true situations.

Cast .... Spectacular!! Splendidly remarkable chemistry between the two leads and oh my baby Si Hyeon!! With his lovely melancholic gazes that hold so much pain and sadness!! And Tape was ... Wow!! Just wow! They guy basically pulled a one man show in this, because despite having a full cast of talents, he shines like the brightest sun!!!
Also, how come this guy is older than me 😂 sorry but he is now what 32-33??? FFS!! 😂😂 He doesn't look a day older than 25 !!!!

The cliffhanger end was sliggghhhhhtly weird, I don't understand the situation and why would "someone" reappear,.. I bet the only one who wasn't raised from the dead is the father lol speaking of fathers! How come half of the cast is missing here! I know none of them so I wish someone would update the cast because I gotta know the name of Mr.Joe, the King of the show!! This guy ATE and left no crumbs!!

I don't know what else to say, it's captivating, the pace is great, the sex scenes were HOT!!!! Like a plate of hot lava with extra spicy jalapeno sauce on it!! And the chemistry and friendship also worthy.
If you -like me- want to watch a BL, start this and you are in for a treat, bear in mind it's not a light fluff drama, it's heavy with a lot of triggers so be cautious, and also if you want to watch a drama that is deep with a story and good fights, give this a try!!! You definitely won't regret it at all ~~

No Chance for Season 2

If you're someone who doesn't like too confusion or mystery, I don't think you'll like the plot twist. I did like it at first. For me, it gives this series its own uniqueness. I just feel like it got dragged on, the number of plot twist seems a neverending throughout the series. I'm even more frustrated when the ending shows Kong being alive, or maybe its a twin? Who knows?

Based on my research-please do correct me if I'm wrong, this series is not adopted from any novel or books, or manwha, so it was really made. No chance of season 2 I belive since according online Nap is not part of entertainment anymore, and because its Korean-Thai series, its even harder to happen.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this drama really surprised me — in the best way.
The story, acting, and cinematography were all a level above most Thai BLs I’ve seen, which often stick to simple school-based plots with little rewatch value. This one felt mature, gripping, and reminded me of the vibe from KinnPorsche, which was a welcome return to that kind of storytelling.
I was also impressed by how smoothly the show combined Thai and Korean actors. Other dramas have tried this, but the language barrier often felt forced and distracting. Here, it worked naturally and even added to the experience — especially for me as a fan of Korean BLs.

The acting was strong across the board, not just from the leads. Even minor characters felt well-cast and contributed meaningfully. That said, I have to highlight the actor playing Peace. His performance, driven mostly by facial and eye expressions, was incredibly powerful — subtle but full of emotion something which is very hard to do.

Overall, this was a refreshing and well-executed drama that raised the bar for Thai BL series. I genuinely hope to see more like it in the future.

Sleeper hit

I rarely write reviews but The Bangkok Boy really surprised me. A must-watch for fans of action BL I say, especially if you're on the lookout for more plot-driven dramas that just so happen to be BL. Admittedly it's a bit of a rough start but at least give it a couple episodes to hook you. This is definitely a testament for casting more unknown actors because there were so many great performances here, and I really grew to care about the characters. While the romance elements definitely take more of a backseat to all the action, the leads have good chemistry and the rest of the plot is still good enough to carry the story.

Overall, great cast with very solid performances, lots of surprisingly well-choreographed fights, and an exciting, unique plot. My fingers are crossed for S2.
