first i started watching the drama because of bai jing ting (ML) . i have watch him in destined and i love his character and his acting so i have to give this drama a try and i didn't regret it all.
i become fan of this drama for sure because it's amazing cast and a great story line.
this drama will give you everything in one go like romance , comedy, little politics , some good action scene , sisterhood ( WHICH WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DRAMA) , business and many more things.
the cast has deliver their best performance ( FOR ME THE 3rd PRINCE AND HIS SOLAR GIRLS HAVE STOLE MY HEART)
every character have it's story to tell and it was really a great work . the drama is mostly based on the women empowerment (I GUESS) and it delivers different type of perspective of that .
ML and FL have a very beautiful journey in entire drama. they have good chemistry between them , the 4th prince and his wife was really mad for each other ( they should get together earlier) , and 7th prince and his wife was really a cute couple ( i want more of them ) .
i like the ML form the previous drama ( which was DESTINED that i saw before this ) and i like the FL too in this. she was not childish like other cdrama but here she was little playful and likeable by all.
the last minutes of the drama make me cry .....

Came for the arranged marriage trope, stayed for the feminism

Initially I only started this show because I like Bai Jing Ting and the romantic pairing in this fall in love after getting arranged married. But as I watched this I realized that the focus of the show wasn't on romance but rather on showing the beauty of female friendships which I really loved.

This show can somewhat be considered a harem drama because it focuses on the wives of princes. Many of them are married to the same man. harem dramas are synonymous with toxic relationships & women harming each other all in a bid to assert their position as the legitimate, head wife. But this is where new life begins flips the script.

Women in the show recognise that the system pits them against one another when really their circumstances are because of their husbands. They form strong bonds with each other, support and uplift one another. Their characters exist independently outside of the marriage. They're real people with personalities, thoughts, opinions, flaws, ambitions and with their female friends they achieve their dreams, they achieve the freedom they crave and live their lives as they please.

In these Palace dramas its common to see the princes be ambitious but their wives are often relegated to tertiary characters with no life of their own. But Li Wei, along with the other women have their own ambitions independent of their husband' political ambitions but ambitions that regardless impact the politics of the country in a meaningful way.


I really enjoyed the show and the characters and they will be dearly missed.

Simple and lighthearted!

This drama focuses mostly on family and relationships! All the other plot (palace politics, harem drama) are touched on but gets resolved quickly. All the villains eventually repent. No lingering hardcore villain to keep us on the edge of our seats to the end. Plot is overall simple and lighthearted.

ML and FL is really cute. I loved BJT in YAMH and Reset so I was excited to see him in a costume drama. He continues to be a cutie to look at! FL is really cute with her big eyes. They make a cute CP in the drama! All the other characters did a great job in their supporting roles. Either you love them or you hate them but they add to the lovely, crazy, sometimes, nerve wrecking family dynamics but everyone eventually sees the right of way!

My only con for this drama is that some parts are a bit draggy and there was a bit too much emphasis on sisterhood for me. I also think there was a hint of a BL relationship but that's hush hush.

Overall, a great watch!

The drama benefits greatly from a strong ensemble cast and humor. Not all princes are villains, though many make terrible husbands. I found Prince An, his wife, and his twenty-four constellation girls to be particularly amusing. Yin Qi and his relationship with Shangguan Jing steal the spotlight. Their dynamic is chaotic, heartfelt, and deeply entertaining, with banter and emotional growth that feel earned. Though imperfect and often struggling, their happiness feels genuine. While most subplots are light and brief, Hua Jia’s storyline stands out for its darker tone. The antagonists themselves are fairly simple, reinforcing the idea that the true enemy is the feudal system rather than any individual character. I also loved how the drama uses colors to distinguish couples and regions, and how each couple’s personalities and dynamics are so distinct. Some of the most memorable moments include Yin Zheng’s birthday dinner in episode 40 and the final rooftop scene with all the couples gazing at the moon. It was wonderful to see how the colors differ for each couple and how their interactions and positioning also reflect their unique dynamics.

The romance between Li Wei and the unfavored sixth prince, Yin Zheng, is wholesome and comedic, particularly through their opposing attitudes toward food and life. Bai Jing Ting and Tian Xi Wei share natural comedic chemistry and handle emotional moments well. However, their relationship feels somewhat unrealistic. While it is clear how and why Li Wei falls in love with Yin Zheng, the buildup on Yin Zheng’s side is lacking, which makes his feelings for her feel underdeveloped. Even now, it remains unclear how or when he truly fell for her. Given how they first met, I expected more bickering or tension between them, but once he chose her, it was as if the kitchen incident never happened. That said, a special shoutout goes to our cupid, Su Shen. Without him, who knows how long it would have taken for these two to figure things out. He was the spice that both the couple and the audience needed to make their relationship more engaging. Ultimately, the drama feels more invested in women’s stories than in romance, which is not necessarily a weakness.

The drama is also somewhat anticlimactic: moments that feel like they might lead to big conflicts are often resolved quickly and without major consequence. While this keeps the pacing gentle and enjoyable, it can sometimes make the drama feel plain, particularly toward the ending, which felt a bit rushed and left me wondering why certain solutions weren’t considered earlier. Everything remains light and easygoing. Some viewers may want more dramatic tension, but for me, it only added to the charm.

Overall, New Life Begins is a visually charming, warm, and entertaining drama centered on women’s struggles, growth, and solidarity, with romance as a supporting element. While it lacks depth and can be slow at times, its humor and ensemble performances make it a highly enjoyable watch.

A drama that shows supportive females

One nice thing about this drama is all the female characters supported and took care of each other. There was no backstabbing b*tch or some SFL trying to ruin the FL. It was very nice to see such supportive females all together. There was also a lot of emotion in this show. It shows how these girls were forced to leave their countries and how they miss their family who took care of them. All these girls come from different countries which have different values and ways of doing things. One girl has horrible parents and an abusive "husband" and I felt like the actress really portrayed those emotions well. There were also a lot of funny moments with the third prince's harem. Those girls were hilarious. The ML was also very good and voiced his opinions and helped the FL.

i'll admit it started off a little confusing with the amount of names and places but once the pace set it was great.
the storyline, the friendships, the romances were all amazing.
i loveeeeeddddddd liwei and yinzheng SO SO SO much.
i loveeeeeeeedddddddddd the female empowerment that this show potrayed, how all of the women supported each other instead of fighting as it is potrayed in many different shows.
i loved how the female leads's entire perspective and goals weren't fixed on men. everyone had their goals that they worked for.

Not for everyone.

I’ve got to be honest—I’m not really connecting with this drama, so I think it’s best for me to call it quits at episode 20. It just isn’t my cup of tea. While the ideas were promising, the execution left a bit to be desired. I mean, it really struggled to respect both genders in the way it aspired to. Sure, the rules of Xin State were outdated, and the other state had its own set of norms, but the way Li Wei and her friends went about trying to reform Xin State felt a bit hypocritical and disrespectful to me. There were several instances where Li Wei stepped over the line and got involved in other people’s issues without truly considering the consequences for everyone involved, and they tried to frame it as a feminist agenda. And then there’s Zheng, who seemed to just go along with Li Wei’s wild ideas without much hesitation. As a woman, I found it tough to get on board with all that because of how it was presented. I really think they could have approached the subject in a more thoughtful manner.

It’s such a pity because there were some lovely moments of sisterhood, and it was refreshing to see a group of women supporting each other rather than competing. But the way it was all put together really missed the mark for me. Please don’t come for me; I totally understand why others enjoyed it! I just feel it wasn’t for me, and maybe my thoughts might help someone else decide whether to watch it or not.

Now, don’t get me wrong—the drama featured stunning scenery and fantastic acting, with a lot of seasoned performers. However, for the historical period they were trying to portray, it felt a bit like they were cramming modern ideas down my throat, and not in the best way. Li Wei often came off as chaotic, pushy, or just plain insensitive. It seemed like her feelings and ideas took precedence over anyone else’s, which was a bit much. I can’t say for sure that she won’t improve later, but I didn’t feel motivated to stick around and find out. After giving it 20 episodes to win me over, I was left feeling let down. If someone wonders why I rated it an 8.5 even though I didn’t enjoy it, it’s because I appreciated the acting, the visuals, and some aspects of the plot. My biggest disappointment really lies in the execution and the uneasy feeling that I’m somehow being judged for not agreeing with Li Wei’s methods or Zheng’s willingness to indulge her.

This is a Masterpiece you shouldn’t miss!!!

just finished watching it and I have to say it was such a pleasure to watch this masterpiece!! No wonder I’ve seen so many people talk about this drama😭🤌🏻 it was everything I needed after finishing pursuit of jade… and dare I say, this is just my opinion… but I loved it even more than POJ😫🙏🏻 everything from the start till the end was shown so perfectly, from the friendships and their bonds to the romance between all couples… even the side characters were amazing, the villains were portrayed great as well (I really couldn’t stand them at some point😂🤏🏻) and of course the best thing of all was THE ENDING👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I think this is the first drama I have watched where nothing was rushed and every situation was handled so well. I was laughing, crying and felt all kinds of emotions throughout and I have to say this was one of the best dramas of all the time FOR ME!! thank you so much for reading all of this🙏🏻 if you’re still wondering if it’s worth the watch, just go for it and enjoy every second of it! Abuse is Never Right, No Matter the Victim

I've watched Bai Jing Ting and Tian Xi Wei in other dramas and enjoyed them. I liked them in this drama, too (their relationship was sweet), but my pleasure was tempered by two unfortunate premises.

I understand the desire to rewrite history in an heroic manner, but the sort of feminist retrofitting of rigid history undermines the actual hardships women had to endure in those times. That a handful of concubines would be allowed to undermine a society without dire consequences to themselves and their families is unreasonable.

I could accept the wish-fulfillment fantasy of sisterhood easily changing society; this isn't a documentary, after all. However, I couldn't stomach the spousal abuse. Third Prince was despised, and rightly so, for his womanizing and treating his wife and concubines as property. Yet, when he realized the error of his ways and tried to make amends, he was still treated with disrespect. It was understandable that Shang Guan Jing was resentful at her forced marriage to the 5th Prince. He was dim-witted and his mouth said things his brain didn't always mean, but that was no excuse for Shang Guan's physical and mental abuse of him. Why is it acceptable to beat a man and leave huge, horrific bruises on him? He'd grown up abused, and he accepted it gratefully from his wife. I found that extremely sad and distasteful. As much as I liked the character of the tough, feisty Shang Guan, there is never an excuse for a stronger person to beat on a weaker one, no matter the sex.

Indeed a New life Begun

I really enjoyed watching this series, I loved the chemistry between actors and the overall story line.

It is a very light, feminist, lots of food type of series with many actual real life issues that a lot of people especially women deal with on a daily basis. Women empowerment story that was done right, it has many multi-layered characters without pitting women against women and promotes sisterhood instead.

Li Wei and Yin Zheng story warms my heart, it was very complicated at first but in the end it was all worth it.

I tend to fast forward or skip because 40 eps series are sometimes very dragging but this series was one of those series that I enjoyed every second of it. Even side characters and their story is good and gave me a reason to root for them.

I can see myself rewatching this series in the near future. I hope others can enjoy this series as much as I do.
