Love at First Fart - I can't believe I am rating a Slapstick Comedy a 9.0

Never in a million years would I have thought that I would one day rate a slapstick comedy a 9.0 rating. I am someone who doesn’t like over-the-top comedies and usually avoid slapsticks. This drama is still not for everyone, however, the stars are aligned for me to enjoy it.

The Aligned Stars ★★★
1. I am in NEED and in the MOOD for a comedy. Just something fun and light-hearted.
2. I set my expectations. I know coming into this that this is slapstick with ridiculous bathroom and second-hand embarrassment humor. I wasn’t prepared when I watched “Euchalala Waikiki” and ended up dropping it.
3. Surprisingly, there’s a stronger focus on romance than I anticipated. I thought this was the slapstick version of “Good Manager” with zero to slight romance. I was pleasantly surprised.

Given these three factors, I had an AMAZING time binge-watching “Gaus Electronics”. I bet all the actors must have such a great time shooting this drama. I wonder how they could keep a straight face and not laugh every single minute of shooting this.

I do want to acknowledge the fact that a lot of the fun was built upon our male lead’s incompetence, clumsiness and misery. If you don’t like bullying in any form (funny or serious), stay away from this drama. These factors might turn a lot of people off. But I switched my brain off and went for the ride.

This is just a very funny drama. The comedy starts from the first episode all the way to the last. The pacing is great and there are so many things going on to keep me engaged throughout. We have enemies-to-lovers romance, unrequited love, rich chaebol trying not to mooch off of his family’s fortune, company politics/stress, and different kinds of relationships. I was pleasantly surprised how moved I was in the last couple episodes regarding the main romance. Acting is flawless and everyone is so well-casted. I really don’t have any major criticism of this drama.

If you are like me and in the same circumstances with the stars aligned, I strongly recommend this drama to you. But if you don’t like over-the-top acting, second-hand embarrassment, and making fun of workplace bullying, then it’s best to stay far, far away.

Other Random Observations:
1. How many managers do you really need for a small marketing team?
2. The references of other K-dramas was fun. It was also fun guessing the famous lines.
3. Yes, that gelled up hair still bothers me to the end.

Watch this if...

Watch this show if you want a very funny show that is full of slapstick comedy, over-the-top characters, bad language, and an overabundance of fart jokes. My overall rating is lower strictly because of the fact that those are not things I enjoy.

The acting of everyone was good and the cast had good chemistry together. I'll bet they had fun making this! The SML had some weird hair thing going on that was really bothering me, get that man a comb!

Each character was likeable in their own unique way. I liked how the SML (chaebol) and his family were played - it's like they purposely made them caricatures of the chaebol families we normally see in Korean dramas.

The show moves at a good pace and there always seems to be something going on. I also liked the progression of the characters in the department. At the beginning everyone hated them, and it seemed that they didn't like themselves or each other very much either, but relationships were developed.

This is DEFINITELY a show to watch if you need some relief from heavier dramas.

Funniest kdrama - absurdity + lots of heart

Gaus spoke to me from its first scene. It begins with an existential internal monologue from Kwak Dong Yeon's sweet, earnest, but inept dork Sang Shik... and I do not want to spoil the reveal of where/how he's soliloquizing.

If you are a fan of American TV, Gaus is spiritually similar to Community: it can lean hard into the absurd but is (occasionally) grounded by a very lovable gang of underdogs performed by a cast with top-tier comedic chemistry.

Gaus is packed with jokes and brilliant physical comedy. And their hair, makeup, & costume crews deserve the world--the attention to detail! Plus, lots of little easter eggs; I catch new things with each rewatch.

It also throws in some great references & trope satire for us kdrama lovers. But even the not-kdrama-obsessed people I've made watch Gaus love it.

If I haven't made it clear, this is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen! If you like smart-but-also-dumb comedy, it's probably also for you.

Comedy gold!!

I absolutely love this drama. Its just comedy gold and its not tacky or cringy at all. The actors all did really great and Im so happy to see Kwak Dongyeon with a main role. This drama is just so fun to watch from beginning to end and the story is great. The romantic aspects look realistic yet also classic and hilarious at the same time. There are no boring or flat scenes. Lee Sangshik and Cha Na Rae are both hilarious and have great chemistry, not to mention none of the characters annoy me. Definitely a 10/10 from me.
The music is also great, This show manages to mock all Kdrama cliches and stereotypes and they know exactly where to put comedy. The word plays are really well done and so are all the funny scenes. It's seriously the best RomCom in the world.
Very fun to watch

Slapstick comedy that really slaps

Prior to watching this kdrama, I honestly expected it to be one of those typical slapstick comedies that would be redundant towards the end. Yes, this show is a slap-stick comedy, but redundant it is not.

Gaus Electronics (가우스전자) has the elements of office romance, eccentric characters, name double meanings (which I found really funny and witty), and the nonending chaebol dramedy. What I liked about this show is that it was not shy in portraying parodies, which if not executed properly, would have become boring. One such great example is the parody of the chaebol romance with Kimchi slaps. Just watch the show to get this reference. Basically, the parodies here were very funny.

Although promising, the first 2 episodes weren't quite entertaining. One might be discouraged to finish it, but since it was promising, I gave it a chance. And it really bloomed plot-wise after the dots were finally connected, and I was able to distinguish the characters, their relationships, and dynamics.

Lee Sang-sik (Kwak Dong-yeon) really is the highlight for this story. His clumsiness might get along the way for his team, but also what made me root for him and his story as well. He has the naivety of a child, and the prudence of a working professional together. He just wants to do his job in a high-quality yet nonsensical manner. And the acting was just spot-on. Lee Sang-sik was really written for Kwak Dong-yeon.

The pacing was good too. There wasn't a solid direction that the story wanted to go aside from the main plot, and for this kdrama, it was good since it was able to create a spontaneous and fluid story flow where it just wants to tell the day-to-day lives of the Gaus Electronics Marketing Team 3. The 12-episode run, honestly, was too short for me. But it is because I was beyond entertained for this series.

The post-credit scenes/advertisements were not only delightful but very witty as well. Of course the laughs were already expected, but its wit was just at another level. Very smart addition by the story writers on this series.

What I just didn't liked is the finale episode, since it wanted to compress all the stories and give them all an ending just in 1 episode. It was still funny, up to a point, but it could've been better had it already set the tone of some stories on the previous episode so that the main story be given better closing here. Nevertheless, it was all still good.

Overall, this Kdrama is a great intersection of office life with comedy with a sprinkle of wordplays and romance. But the best thing that has come out from Gaus Electronics is its slapstick comedy that really slaps.

I think this show is a little overrated, reading other reviews & the comment section I had the impression that this is the most amazing romantic comedy ever. Well it is definitely not, not even close, but 2022 had been quite bleak for Korean romcoms & this one admittedly stands out a little, because it does not really have anything majorly wrong with it & the enemies to lovers trope is something most people -including myself- enjoy. For a corporate kdrama the office slice of life is quite unoffensive, but it's not very interesting either, the hook in the show is just the comedy & romance, nothing else, but the acting is not exactly top tier and the comedy is hit & miss for me. I'm not a huge fan of slapstick & this drama has quite a bit of that & also there are a lot of really juvenile gags. As for the romance it's good, but I'm not a huge fan of the ML in this role & the chemistry is not all that believable. Also the ending felt a bit rushed, did this flop on Korea, so it got shortened to 12 episodes???

I decided to give this 8/10 only, because there were very few good romcoms over the past year & at least I enjoyed this one a lot, though I'm quite certain a rewatch is not in my future.

PLEASE WATCH IT ITLL CURE YOUR DEPRESSION

GUYS LISTEN i did not plan on watching this kdrama i only watched it because the male lead was one of the main leads in vincenzo ... and i LOVED this mans role in vincenzo and fell in love with him so ... i watched this kdrama for him. and i dont regret it. oh my god it is so funny i cant even emphasize. the male lead is SOOO STUPID AND DUMB and the female lead is dumber. its literally dumb and dumber but the duo is so cute. like actually so cute. i literally needed to pause sometimes because i would get so much 2nd hand embarrassment or i would laugh too hard and couldn't focus. if you dont like this show then youre boring. SORRY NOT SORRY!!!! anyway please watch the show its so funny, not long, and funny. did i mention its funny? god its so funny i wanna rewatch it right now. ugh. i miss it.

Entertaining and easy watch but comedy can be a bit too juvenile at times

I recommend this show, it's an easy watch, quite fast since the episodes are not too long and the series only has 12. It's entertaining, funny at times and the characters are fairly diverse and even given its short run time you do learn a bit about most of the characters what I feel even long dramas sometimes don't achieve.

I think the character of Aziz stole the show though, he was very funny and one of the most sane persons in the show. I also liked the chaebol related comedy, and Baek Ma Tan was the second funniest to me in this show.
The show made me laugh and chuckle many times, but I do have to admit it made me cringe at others for having too much of a juvenile humour for my taste that had me looking like Sung Hyung Mi. If you do like that type of humour then you'll enjoy all of it though.

The pacing was generally ok but for some reason certain parts of some episodes were a bit more boring. The first two episodes are an example of this, especially the first one, mainly because I didn't find it funny when they tied Lee Sang Shik and left him in a room. Generally the bullying in that first episode was not very good taste and kind of problematic to pass it as comedy to me.

The main couple here is all right and overall enjoyable but I think the shortness of this show makes that relationship suffer. Things go from one side to the other quickly and it makes you question their feelings (especially his). I liked more the developement of the second couple, it was more interesting and entertaining to me.

Other than that the show was enjoyable and it had also cute and even good cheesy moments. So if you're looking for a light romance and comedy this is for you.

This review may contain spoilers

watched weekly as it came out (starting from ep 4)

WOW!! did not expect to grow very fond of this drama but i did and im glad i watched because it was refreshing to see an ongoing drama this year and was not very depressing lmao it was the opposite and very funny! anyone who dropped from the first ep or the second should try and pick it back up again because it REALLY does progress much better and i think they combine the comedy and romance genre with the office setting nicely. the friendships and relationships in the drama are addictive and i think all characters were written good aswell! the only thing is i did not understand some of the plotlines BUT nevertheless i did mostly watch for the characters lol. an easy watch and short sadly! i will miss it and sang sik and na rae set the bar for enemies to lovers workplace couples this year i dont care what anyone says!!

Pee in your pants – For REAL laugh out loud comedy!!!

I had no idea what this drama was going to be about, I just knew it had Kwak Dong Yeon and I loved him in Young Actor’s Retreat and Love in the moonlight. This was the PERFECT comedy to watch right before bed, because it will put a MAJOR smile on your face.

It reminded me a lot of the American show The Office, just a lot of awkward humor, physical comedy and a touch of romance. I love that the show wasn’t too serious and it was just about a rag-tag marketing team.

The show was mainly about two story lines (for me). It was about the main-lead’s love/hate relationship and the secondary couple (the babies I call them).

I REALLY loved the secondary couple, especially, Bae Hyun Sung (or I like to call him, mini-Bo Gum, BHS looks exactly the younger version of him!). BHS is so good in Our Blues and Dear M. I really want to watch him in a ML role. I LOVE his little hair flip too, the costume and hair and make-up team were very good to add that in.

At 45 minutes an episode and only 12 episodes, it’s a very easy drama to watch. The humor is over-the-top funny, I mean, you will laugh so hard, your cheeks and belly will hurt. I enjoy watching all the characters running around with their heads cut off. It was just, like I say again, FUNNY!

I recommend anyone who wants to be happy while watching this drama to start this one.

A drama you'd want to watch everyday

This was so funny and cute, I think that summarizes it.

It's very unique but still well executed for a lot of people to like it. I'm going to miss this drama a lot. I felt like I grew with the characters too. It's definitely a must watch for people who like comedy, a little romance and just life in general. It's a good office romance too, all the different characters make it extremely lovable. I wish this was a family drama and at least 100 eps. It is that good.
