A decent rom-com of unrequited love and second-chance romance. Miles Wei does what he does best.

Subjective Gut Rating: 7.75

I am a fan of unrequited-love-turned-romance and also second-chance romance. So, “I May Love You” is the perfect drama for me at the moment. It’s an easy-to-watch rom-com to kill time.

I have conflicting feelings about the female lead, Tang Xin. Her first introduction to us viewers isn’t quite what I was hoping for and I was a little worried. She appeared to be obsessed with ML, Tang Yu, a little stalkerish with her wall of photos, and seemed to be a little clingy. I understand she’s been in love with Tang Yu for 4 years, but still, those pictures creeped me out. But on the other hand, I liked her assertiveness and her straightforwardness when confessing her love. I might not agree with her dishonesty in a way, but also understand where she’s coming from. Luckily, I like her more when stood her ground and focuses on her career. She let Tang Yu grovel and try to win her love without giving in too easily.

I love seeing a male lead miss his chance of love and have to grovel and win the affection of the female lead. However, that push-and-pull and Tan Xin’s stubbornness lasted too long. It was fun at first, but then towards the middle of the drama, it became very repetitive and I slowly lost interest in the main romance. I eventually just look forward to the secondary romance, which is cute and sweet. I adore that couple and wanted more screen time for them.

Miles Wei is the usual Miles Wei. He has played similar roles many times, but you can’t deny he looks quite handsome. At least he is not a total cold CEO and does show his lovable side once he’s in love. I know this is not a big budget production, but they have got to give Miles Wei and Huo Chen Dong better suits to wear. Their suits look like UNFINISHED products from fashion design students, or unfinished products from Project Runway contestants when they ran out of time after Tim Gunn told them to stop. They are ridiculous! Miles can use a few more suits and not repeatedly wear the same ones. He’s the CEO of a film production company afterall. The makeup of the female lead isn't that great either. Her foundation is too white but her lips are too bright. On the other hand, 2FL looks really pretty.

On a positive note, there are many lovable characters in this drama and no annoying ones. I adored ML’s mother and his sister. They are so cute and are the best wingwoman for ML. I was worried the sister would be another annoying spoiled princess, but she’s so lovely. We only have good and supportive parents, and good and supportive friends.

Aside from the mid-drama slow pacing due to the back-and-forth of the main romance, this is a pretty decent and light-hearted drama to watch. I don’t think it’s a realistic portrayal of the industries, so don’t think too hard but enjoy a cute and fluffy drama, with decent quality and number of kisses and an adorable supporting cast.

The only downfall of this show and a lot of slow burning romance (not this was generally one) but it just took them so long to get together and it's like bro lol y'all are feeling the vibe, just have at it, okay? But then I get it because then the show wouldn't have been what it was but I guess I was cool with it, overall, it was a good show, not necessarily complications or toxic minus the forced...stuff. But other than that, not a bad show. Clear, cut, straight forward, the chemistry is sizzling, the side characters weren't bad, I liked the relationships and families and yeah, the music was even fantastic as well. So definitely worth a watch before 2023 ends or even when 2024 begins tbh.

i should have watched this in 1 go

It's refreshing to see ML is the one chasing FL this time.
I think the pacing was good and the actors fit their roles perfectly.
The first episode hooked me. who wouldn't? FL is pretty, has talent, is confident, and strong. Never was she portrayed as clumsy just to give her dimension.
I was watching it while empathizing with the FL and in my head "Yeah, I would be as confused if the boy who just rejected me suddenly turned a 360." I like that she didn't give in right away. Which is contrary to what others are asking in the comment section. She wants security that ML was not just touched by her (failed) confession and really likes her too. That is realistic.
I like that there are no villains, no evil and unreasonable parents and everyone is supportive.
If I have to nitpick the wardrobe for MW wasn't thoroughly thought out.

I May Love You is one of those dramas that had potential but got lost when, for most of the drama, the female lead is putting off the male lead because he rejected her confession which, by the way, was abrupt and lacked sincerity when she tells him the shallow reason for what she likes him making herself as superficial as her reasons. The male lead doesn’t realize that he had started to fall for her until she leaves his side. He starts to court her by all possible ways, only to be refused in a rude, humiliating, and cruel way every time he tried to pursue her even though she still likes him. The male lead did a great job bringing his character to life and bringing out all kinds of emotions like anger, jealousy, uncertainty, honest care for her, and deep love that he demonstrated as soon as he realized that he liked her. On the other hand, up until episode eighteen, the female lead is responding with disdain, cruelty and, to a certain degree, sadistically when she seems to plan strategists and takes pleasure in hurting him as he tries, diligently, to right the pain caused by his rejection. Once the leading couple gets together, the relationship is cute from her side and beautifully passionate from his. The leading lady’s character was written in such a way that, for the most part, she doesn’t seem to have the emotional intensity of falling deeply for him at first sight and loving him for four years. Huang Ri Ying (as Tang Xin) has played too many insufferable leading ladies and her deadpan expressions in this drama make it difficult to give the viewer the “I’ve loved you for so long” vibe. Overall, even if the leading couple have many intimate scenes, is the leading man who lits the flame with his great acting. Other couples and supporting cast seem less enthusiastic pursuing their love interests.

Review

For me this drama is 90/100 because when I currently watch this drama I feel something that we cannot just confess to someone without being rejected. I checked the reviews of the other people on how bad this drama was. For me it is not that bad because I feel that we can learn something about this flow of story like you should think before you speak to others. You see that when Tang Xin confessed to Tang Yu that she likes Tang Yu because he is handsome and rich. Right?! I just wanna say that there is nothing wrong about Tang Xin treatment to him or reject him in a bad way. I think I understand Tang Xin why she is like that. Tang Yu said that they are both not compatible. Of course, Tang xin was hurt by what Tang Yu said to her, right? I understand that some of other people think that Tang Xin is annoying and that she cannot said to him that she likes him for 4 years. If you are in the position of Tang Xin how can you tell him that you like Tang Yu very much to the point that you stalked or stick his photo in your room. For me there is nothing wrong about how you stalked someone but of course except to the bad stalker.

Of course I kinda don't like how she treat him like that but I can understand her. Also the chemistry between them is so cute and beautiful. OST is soooo good also. For now I just wanna see the flow of story in the next episode to final episode.

Just now, I watched the EP 17 my reaction was just wow the both of them delivered it well specially Tang Xin. I expect that Tang Xin really have a deep love for Tang Yu. The way she confess her feeling in weibo. We can see that her love for him is so genuine. So I can understand her why did she have to act like she didn't care about him were in fact she's hurting inside. He just didn't know that she like him that much although I can see that Tang Yu notice Tang Xin.

It is very highly recommend. So if you think that this drama is bad, cliche or creepy just don't watch it anymore. Problem solve right?!

PS: She Fell First But He Fell Harder

A rare Gem of a C-drama, breath of fresh air

I AM LOVING THIS ❤️❤️❤️ Started it just as a filler drama to pass time but I Already reached the last episode! (The first few episodes may be off-putting to some, understandably so. but if you give it some time, you won’t regret the watch ❤️)

I appreciate all the aspects of this drama. The couple’s sizzling chemistry, BOTH of their personalities, their families, friends, the workplaces, the looks, outfits, OSTs, the longgg,, sweet chase that made me fall in love with the ml even more— every bit of this drama is truly a breath of fresh air. Such a gem is exceptionally rare for C-drama romances. If you had your unfortunate shares of experiences of C-dramas with draggy plots, misunderstandings, excessive dramas, problematic 2nd leads, childish themes, time-leaps, and an outrageously long list of disappointing tropes, you will understand why.
The ml’s unceasing love and affection for the fl is absolutely heart melting. He is WHIPPED whipped, enamored of our fl. And watching him do the sweetest, selfless, purest things for her is so endearing. He is just so soft for her and his actions towards her are an epitome of the word softness itself. The way he looks at her, the way he holds her, embraces her, gently kisses her forehead, speaks to her, reassures her, EVERYTHING is just so delicately pure. He is one of the greenest flags out there I would say. I love how his character was made and he pulled it off so well. He has that charm of a soft-spoken, respectful, mature CEO, but make no mistake, his girl is not to be messed with. Watch this drama to have your dose of sugars, beware though, you may develop a sweet-tooth.

As happy I am to have found this drama, I am also sad that it’s ending. I don’t know if I will find another C-dramas like this, I will be so happy if I do. Please recommend me if there are any that is close to this!

Wasted chemistry

The foundation for this show is very very weird. When the FL confesses she likes the ML, who was initially wooing her best friend, and gets rejected, the FL forcefully kisses the ML to prove a point?? The ML does the exact same thing later when he's wooing her to prove to her he's committed to wooing her???

The ML's sister has an ANNOYING ass baby voice and is very childish; even though she's never acted before, she is employed to act in the FL's new movie, and because she's a rookie, we're forced to painfully watch her mess up lines 5 million times and her cry as a result of being reprimanded for that. To make things worse, they force a relationship between her & the director of said film in the last episodes and it is such a cringe fest.

The main leads have great chemistry and it's a shame it was wasted on this stupid ass plotline.

It was an okay series. Maybe a good filler while waiting on your favorite show to aire. It has some good elements to it such as the supporting cast but I just couldn’t get into it. I finished the series but that was because I forced myself too. The FL just gave me negative vibes by her actions from episode 1. From episode 1 to 18, I watched this catch chases mouse game. She was somewhat resistant to the end which maid the progression of the relationship nonexistent.the acting wasn’t bad, the story itself wasn’t terrible but the FL was too much for me. I kept wishing he’d move on.

Interesting and different, despite the drawn-out ending

I want to start by saying that this is Miles Wei's best drama, without any doubt (my personal opinion)

I May Love You reminded me a little of The Love You Give Me in some ways, especially in the way FL makes ML have to fight for her. In my opinion, nothing more fair for two male protagonists who didn't try hard enough when it was necessary.

Following with my review, I want to highlight that, just like in Rising With The Wind, we have obstacles that make sense. There are no annoying second females or second leads - although the director, Mr. Lu, fell in love in 3 seconds of the scene with 3 different people, and one of them was FL -, or controlling and irritating families interfering in their son's relationships as if they could not have autonomy.
Yes, we had misunderstandings... and there were several (lol) but, at least, they were being resolved one by one.

FL's development was very interesting, I really loved the way she matured and instead of making a man the center of her life, she started to focus on herself and her work. That was admirable. And best of all: she didn't go back on her decision, even after admitting her feelings.

ML is also the typical role that Miles usually plays, however, I think this role of his is a more mature, sexier and more interesting role than the others. It still has that "science teacher" and "mommy's boy at 30" vibe, but anyway, I think it's my favorite character out of all the characters he's played.

Regarding the secondary characters, I really liked Secretary Hao, I also liked ML's cute sister, and FL's best friend. Although I thought ML's best friend was an empty character, he surprised me with a levelheadedness that I didn't expect.

However, despite all the positive aspects I mentioned, I think that the excessive conveniences, such as ML's sister suddenly becoming an actress - just for the couple's plot with the director - and the delay for the couple to get together, made the last 4 episodes became dragging for me.

At some point, I just wanted to finish the series.
Anyway, I May Love You is surprisingly better than I expected, it has GREAT performances - especially Huang Ri Ying, who was really great on her role - and delivered excellent chemistry between the main actors.

It deserves more attention and recognition, in fact.

Little sugar heart vs little overlord

I'm here to say to everyone that, please, don't drop it till after episode 5. I feel a lot of people probably drop this because in the first episodes the FL act a little stalkerish ending up with a bizarre confession on episode 4 that doesn't make any sense.

But after that things get really great and is a fantastic rom com: The ML understand what he lost and try to woo the FL back and she doesn't accept him right away. She needs to feel he actually love her and like her even after rejecting her in the past. Both act like mature and succesful individuals and, when they start dating, they are such a natural couple. Normally those montage they do when they are already dating going on a date looks cringe but here i loved to watch them.
The second couple was cute too and unexpected. tbh it looks like the first 4 episodes are one drama and from 5 to 24 another, better one lol.

We also have beautiful scenes that makes me cry, specially the one where Tang Xin's father told her that, even being illiterate, he read her book many times, taking notes to ask her when he got lost. We could also see he really can't read when, at the end, Tang Yu give him a prenup to read and he pass him to her daughter. Her father is just adorable tbh.

So please, if you like rom-com, don't miss on this one. It is 100% worth it.

Great Chemistry and an adorable kitten, however...

The chemistry between the leads was great. I wouldn't be against them in another series together. Just hope it is better written.

I was not a big fan of the plot or writing in quite a bit of the show. I honestly would not have gotten through episodes 4-14 if not for the lead's chemistry. Those episodes where ML was chasing her and she was treating him like he'd kicked her kitten in front of her were not exactly easy to get through.

Don't get me wrong, I understand her hurt from being rejected. It stings. But for her to act like it was all on him and he was fully in the wrong for rejecting her... it got annoying quick. She confessed to him and he asked her how long she liked him and why. Her answers were recently and because he was rich and handsome... did she really think he'd be like yeah, me too? Instead of telling the truth, which were great answers, she lied. Seriously, no one wants to hear those as answers for why someone likes them.

Also, the forced kiss.. if ML did that to FL, everyone would've thrown a fit.

That said, here are some pros.

- adorable kitten
- real kisses
- a cute 2nd couple (ep 10 and on tho)
- no triangles or break ups
- both leads had supportive parents

If you can overlook my little rant, I'd recommend at least checking out the first 5 episodes to decide if this is for you or not.

Drama ok 8/10

You know those kind of dramas that are ok, neither good nor bad, I think that description fits this drama very well.
The first few episodes were good and exciting, but from the middle to the end the drama cooled down, the protagonists became bland and the secondary characters stole the show, from the middle to the end I only continued because of the secondary characters (Ding Ding and Director Lu) they stole the show, if it hadn't been for them I probably would have dropped it, but if you're looking for a light drama without too many emotions this drama is for you, you can start without fear.
