Great Storyline Ruined by Lazy Directing

The storyline is an intriguing unique one in the sense that you can't really tell if it's the supernatural or just bad luck at work in the beginning. However, the director insists on using and reusing shots again and again and again until it is no exaggeration that some episodes contain 30+ minutes worth of reused content. The last episode especially felt slow and anti-climatic. Poof, great storyline blown into smithereens.

Spoilers start from here on, so if you mind those, stop now.

First off, I would like to address the stalker allegations: yes, our ML is indeed a stalker. Perhaps, he doesn't realize it at first, but when he does, he admits it and distances himself. Other characters do address this as well. However, it is hard for the story to have progressed in any other way. Only an obsessive stalker with a one-sided crush and a lack of self-awareness could have been able to figure out the truth behind the witch. Others would've been dead before they even started.

Now that we got that out of the way, let's speak about the characters. Almost all characters are well-fleshed out, even the 'insignificant' side-characters feel real. However, due to the director's habit of 'repeating himself' all characters, even the main ones come off as redundant. Even watching the main leads became a chore at some point.

The drama was doing fairly well until around episode 8 despite the drag. But episodes 9 and 10 were truly... bad. The end was not rewarding at all. I had been anticipating the moment they got together, but as the ML confessed his feelings, I found myself not truly caring for the outcome. Sadly, I found that if in a delightful twist he ended up dead, I would've been more touched by how a real stalker story would've ended, but oh well.

What I pity most is our lead actor. His acting was very moving and touching; Jin-young always had that quality about his acting. However, it could not compensate for all the other glaring problems in the story. Our lead actress did not help much either. Jeong-eui has fascinated me with her acting ever since she was 18 Again. But once she lost weight, she always looks like a tired shell of herself. I wish she'd gain some more weight and vigor since she's still but a young girl. Her acting has suffered, it looks dispirited. She doesn't look like she's acting, and not in a good way.

I wish I can recommend this drama, but I can only say: if you have nothing better to watch, sure give it a shot. It's good until ep 8 anyway.

The most unique love story I've seen in a long time

The typical cliches of any love story cannot be applied to this one as its completely impossible. So if u watch romance dramas this will be nothing like you've ever seen before.

In most dramas where the FL/ML is cursed/has some special power/sees ghosts/is a ghost/etc... their ML/FL counterpart is exempt from their curse/have the ability to end their suffering/only one who can see them or whatever... hence, they come together and fall in love. There is nothing like that in this drama. That's the thing I love about it the most! The same rules apply to the ML as everyone else but the rules of the curse itself were unknown so the journey was to find those rules after he fell in love with her to find a solution to be with her.

If people are expecting romance this one is not for them. Yes its a love story but there is barely any interaction between the main leads for most part of the story. I'd say its a love story without romance if that makes sense lol.

The stalking part is being over-exaggerated by some people here. No stalking is being promoted as the ML himself is acknowledging the stalking and his detective friend asked the FL that he can arrest the ML is she wants. They are completely aware that it is a crime and not shying away from that fact. The pacing is a bit slow and there are a quite a lot of repeating scenes but I don't mind it at all as it helps revisit vital points again. Watching the slow pace gives a sort of serene calm vibe which really makes me feel peaceful. I wouldn't watch other slow dramas but the mystery in this is what attracts me alot.

I would have actually rated it 9 or 9.5 but I cut 1 point just bcz I feel there should have been an epilogue at the end! As the main leads got together in the last episode, it would have been nice to see a few years later epilogue of how their life and relationship is going to be. But apart from that I love this drama. I'd love to rewatch it again some time as there are many little scoops that foreshadows the major twists and plot towards the end.

Not Going to Be For Everyone, and That's Okay

If you enjoy cinematography, don't mind a slower paced/slow to unfold mystery, "pure" love(defined below) story you will enjoy this show.

ML is like a Christmas tree, green(evergreen tree), with spots of red(ornaments), but ultimately lights up the room & brings joy to those around it. I like that the lead character is almost fundamental flawed, but is aware of those flaws. They(production) do not shy away from the fact that the ML is, by definition, a stalker of the the FL. They use music, lighting, wardrobe, and hair and make-up to convey the narrative shift when the ML has the self awareness that is so very necessary for a story like this.

The cinematography is always thoughtful, and every scene is lit and framed with a purpose. The only critique for me is that there was a heavy use of previous scenes showing back up/repeated within the edit. This is a useful tool for recalling past events, but they were ever so slightly heavy handed. They probably only needed 8 or 9 episodes, but having it rounded out to 10 made 100% sure that it never felt rushed.

If you like shows like Tree of Heaven, or Spring Waltz you will like this one, and bonus it has a happy, if not slightly open, ending. It has the same slower melo vibes as those two shows from the mid 2000s. It leaves you with questions, and curious how their lives will be from now on...will there be more variables in the future? They don't know, but they are at peace with whatever comes their way. This show has an overall vibe of a mid 2000s kdrama, and a Japanese meloromance. If you don't like those types of shows, this one just isn't going to be for you, and that's okay.

"pure" love: when characters have feelings for one another, but the medium(book, show, movie, film) never depicts the love in a sexual/sexualized manner. A love not seeking to gain anything from the other party, just simply loving without expectation.

It should've been a movie.

when I first saw news of this drama starring Got7's Park Jinyoung based on a webtoon by Kang full I was so excited, no need to know anything else I just sat and waited.

First two episodes were slow, boring and nor much happened, but I thought, it's an introduction it's bound to pick up in upcoming episodes.

Episodes 3-4 nothing really happened, we just sat watching a man creepily stalking an innocent woman. 4 episodes in and they haven't met?!! I get it, He meets her, he dies, but still!.

Episodes 5-6 came out and I skipped I thought I needed a break. Episodes 7-8 came out and I still wasn't feeling it. I thought I was dropping it, But I was still curious, it's Kang full, his stories are really good so there's got to be something here.

Episode 5 was draggy and as I was watching episode 6 I thought of taking another break, but then that ending! Finally it happened!!!

Episodes 7 and 8 were actually thrilling, my eyes were glued to the T.V totally immersed in the story, I felt anxious, I was worried and excitedfor the next scene to happen (it remindsof final destinationa bit). I am actually looking forward to the final two episodes this weekend.

I am rating it a 7 for now, depending on the ending it might go down I couldn't possibly rate it any higher because of how slow it is no matter how good the ending could be.

This would've been so much better as a movie or a 4 episode miniseries tops.

I know there's a Chinese movie adaptation out there, if anyone knows where I can find it please let me know, same with the original webtoon I can't find it anywhere if you know, please share it with me.

I have finished the series and adjusted my rating down to a 6 which I think is more than fair.

I knew I wouldn't be disappointed with a Kang Full story, that man is a freaking genius. Wher this series failed is in the way they adapted this brilliant story the pacing was way to slow one shouldn't have to sit through 6 boring episodes for the thrill to finally happen and the twist! wow I feel dumb not noticing it before it wa so good aand it would have benefitted the series to have revealed it earlier.

I do want to make clear the stalking aspect of this series as I just recently dropped the series The boy next world due to that very reason.

Dongjin is a stalker, he makes a point of it himself, however, he is doing it for a very good reason, he is madly in love with this woman and he is doing everything he can to make sure that she is happy. He at no moment is trying to force his love on her on the contrary he would've been perfectly content if what his face hadn't been a total jerk and broken the curse. The final episode was so weird it's not clear enough how or when she fell for him.

My favorite character Ho Eunsil, she was the best and we didn't have enough of her, I wish her and joonghyuks story weren't so rushed, because again, When did she fall for him exactly!?

In conclusion it's an excellent story wasted on horrible storytelling it took way too long to get to the point and when it did it felt unfinished, it is too long and too short at the same. It is a shame that most people won't have the patience to sit through it because although far fro perfect it's still very interesting.

Morally Bankrupt Drama, stalking promoted !!!!

Title should be : - THE STALKER
After watching the first six episodes of The Witch (2025), I find the drama both disappointing and deeply frustrating. Despite the intriguing premise described, the execution is flawed, with unsettling themes, misleading advertising, and poor storytelling choices that are hard to overlook.

A Story That Reinforces, Rather Than Challenges, Superstition

The central plot revolves around a minor girl being labeled a witch due to mysterious deaths occurring around her. Instead of challenging outdated superstitions, the drama unfortunately reinforces them, reflecting a disturbingly cruel portrayal of society. It is disheartening to see a modern, developed nation like South Korea producing a drama that fails to offer a more progressive and empathetic narrative. The female lead (FL), portrayed by a talented young actress, is treated like an outcast, blamed for events beyond her control. This could have been an opportunity to explore human compassion, yet the story leans heavily into societal cruelty without meaningful critique.

A Misleading Premise and Poorly Developed Romance

Another major issue is the misleading description. The synopsis claims the FL recalls the male lead (ML), Lee Dong Jin, from high school. However, after six episodes, she does not recognize him at all. Instead, her interactions are primarily with other boys, making the supposed connection between the leads feel forced and hollow. If the drama later tries to portray the ML as being in love with her, it will lack credibility—love requires genuine connection, which has been entirely absent. The ML's so-called feelings seem like an afterthought rather than a heartfelt bond.

The pacing is another significant flaw. Six episodes in, the narrative is still stuck in past events, with the preview for episode 7 indicating more of the same. For a drama limited to ten episodes, this slow burn is poorly conceived. The leads have yet to meet meaningfully in either timeline, raising serious doubts about how their relationship will develop convincingly. A better structure would have balanced past and present timelines within each episode, allowing the story to progress without dragging.

The Male Lead: A Stalker Masquerading as a Love Interest

The most glaring issue is that the ML, Lee Dong Jin, still has not met the FL. We are now past the halfway mark of this ten-episode drama, and their supposed “connection” remains non-existent. How is this even a romance when the two leads have yet to interact in any meaningful way?

While I was at least slightly satisfied that in episode 5 someone finally called out the ML for being a stalker, the drama still fails to acknowledge how disturbing his behavior truly is. The show is blatantly normalizing stalking, portraying the ML as some kind of misunderstood intellectual rather than the obsessive creep he actually is.

Let’s be clear: this is not a love story. This is ten hours of a man collecting data on a woman he barely knew in high school. He is not reminiscing about a lost love, nor is he rekindling an old relationship. He is just stalking her—gathering information about a girl from his past while never actually interacting with her. There is zero emotional foundation for whatever the drama is trying to sell as a romance.

The drama suggests he liked the FL in high school, but his actions contradict this entirely. He is so cautious about approaching her due to rumors that she is a witch, which cannot be mistaken for love. Other boys who dared to speak to her—even at great personal risk—demonstrated far more courage and humanity than the ML ever has. Now, as an adult, he analyzes her life using cold statistics to determine if she is a witch, treating her more like a research subject than a human being. Sharing his "findings" with his professor and colleagues without her knowledge is deeply disrespectful and dehumanizing.

The Female Lead: A Background Character in Her Own Story

The FL remains a side character in her own narrative. Across six episodes, she has had shockingly little screen time, which is an unforgivable storytelling flaw. The drama has failed to explore her thoughts, emotions, or even her daily struggles in any meaningful way. She is merely an object of the ML’s obsessive curiosity rather than an actual protagonist.

Her experiences—being ostracized, falsely accused, and isolated—should have been the emotional core of the series. Instead, the show is more concerned with how the ML perceives her rather than giving her a voice. The lack of empathy in the writing is staggering. The story should have focused on her survival and resilience, but instead, it revolves around a man playing detective with her life without her knowledge or consent.

A Visually Well-Shot, Morally Bankrupt Drama

Some might argue that the cinematography and production quality are commendable. Sure, it looks good—but what’s the point? A beautifully shot dumpster fire is still a dumpster fire. No amount of polished visuals can compensate for a script this misguided. If good cinematography was all that mattered, the production team should have just filmed a nature documentary instead of promoting a stalker’s delusions as romance.

Adding to the absurdity, the ML is inexplicably protected, with minions saving him from trouble, further highlighting his inability to face any real consequences or dangers himself. It’s baffling why the narrative coddles him while sidelining the FL.
At end of ep 6 ml faces Fl and they are playing dramatic music like Director going to fart at any moment and they wanna cover it somehow,
Now I want Ml to die at the start of ep 7 from lighting strike and then FL will stalk his corpse until it is eaten by director and writer

This drama dangerously romanticizes crime, particularly stalking, by making the female lead (FL) easily accept her stalker as if his actions were harmless. Instead of addressing the harm caused by such behavior, the story justifies it, sending a problematic message that obsession equals love. This kind of narrative normalizes toxic relationships and dismisses the importance of consent and personal boundaries, which can be deeply unsettling for viewers.

Furthermore, the male lead (ML) treating the FL as nothing more than a research subject dehumanizes her, yet the drama portrays this as justified rather than unethical. By presenting these behaviors as acceptable, the show promotes disturbing ideas rather than challenging them. The director’s approach seems to endorse stalking and manipulation rather than condemning them, making the drama not just unsettling but outright problematic.

Just bewitched.. this was the end product??

Honest to god, what did I expect with this. I expected a melancholic and intimate take on the synopsis given. I haven’t watched the Chinese drama, or read the source material. I watched the trailer and have looked at the promotions, that lead me to believe this would be a bleak drama with emotional scenes and whatnot.

For what is here there is a lot of potential. I really say that a lot but it is true. This drama has a few things holding it back, but for the most part I can see it seriously working itself out.

The female lead is very gorgeous and has a certain look that I understand why she was cast, as for her acting capabilities only time will tell. Park Jinyoung will always serve, and his character is lacking as of now with the tenacious nature and lack of growth. That isn’t a problem yet because he likely will grow within the episodes!

For a first start this drama started off slow. It wasn’t that captivating, maybe that is because I’ve been watching hit after hit these days. Nonetheless it isn’t awful at all, it is just sort of slow and misdirected here and there. Especially with the lack of emotion for the FL, I get that it is mostly directing choice as her character could seem more offputing that way, but at least have the eyes have some emotion.. she is human after all.. or is she.. I really wish the actress would have some range with her emotions so in return the audience.. I don’t know.. could feel some sort of empathy for her. I, personally don’t care since her reaction is the same mundane for ever even. Stylistic or direction choice, doesn’t matter- it is not an effective way to grab your audience, and it’s a horrible method on all fronts. It makes the female actress look like she can’t act, and makes the character seem paper thin. She is a highschool girl, but watching I just know she is made up and fictional.. I know I’m watching fiction- but there are a lot of media that is fiction and the characters aren’t real yet you feel for them.

Besides all that my main issue is with Dong Jin. It is set up that he is an analytical person, he can read people quite well. He isn’t loud of bold, and he doesn’t have ultieror motives. Honestly the guy is normal, but then he stalks this woman that he hasn’t ever talked to. He justifies this because it is meant to be, as them seeing eachother again is now making it fate. I wish he would have used his voice, a let the guy speak rather than him looking into things for either intuition, or this said ‘fate’. I just don’t appreciate when ML goes around the neighborhood to see where FL lives, when A. He didn’t talk to her in highschool ever, and B. It has been several years and he didn’t make his presence known. That makes him creepier than the FL, because he actually has a choice.. and is hung up on this girl because she was mysterious and was his crush. Maybe the drama will get meta, because he is no different from all the other guys that liked her, or maybe he just has plot armor.. the guy is just so methodical so I don’t get why he doesn’t explain himself and stalks the FL home ok..

It just isn’t paced well with the flashbacks and then to the present, it’s slow, and non reflective. There isn’t suspense to any of it, and it’s rather frustrating and predictable. What convinces me of this is that the majority of the second episodes are showing scenes you watched in the first episode, this time just without Jinyoung narrating. The FL instead narrates, as if the visuals aren’t a bore to watch, I watched them one day prior and constantly have a raised brow. Reshowing the same scenes for several minutes with no new context is a blatant wast of the viewers time. It is poorly directed if there was nothing of substance to put in. A show that does the flashbacks correctly is King of Pigs, as it had an overarching story to the flashbacks over the case of several episodes rather than just using one episode. That way you wanted to watch more, and it helped that the story actually had a hook. Here there is nothing about the past that you don’t already know, nothing is being revealed and it just extends what you were told.

Directing issues stem in multiple areas here. The tone of the drama is being forced, as the dialogue doesn’t make you emotional, but they rather use a dim lighting and soundtrack to evoke that emotion. I wished it would have carefully done a slow burn to each pivotal moment, instead of the shameless tactics. The best dramas usually have the most impactful scenes when it is just raw human emotion, and early on in this drama it is trying way too hard to make you feel a sense of dread and mystery.

This drama has an unfortunate case of misdirection and miscasting. It isn’t well done in so many areas that I am having a hard time saying something I like about it. If you need to pad the runtime with scenes you have already shown, dare I say cut the episode down? It’s a disservice to your viewers, and leaves the project feeling half baked and rushed. So the characters aren’t consistent, the chemistry isn’t there, the tone is forced, the editing is dragging, and that equals to a pretty crappy drama. The writing also panders, hate to say it- but when a narration occurs for several minutes over film you had watched prior- they are quite literally telling you what is happen. The audience is not allergic to suspense and making connections themselves… I can’t kid myself, I think my time may be wasted.

Good Enough

Korean Drama '' The Witch '' is a supernatural drama full of suspense.

The drama has an interesting cinematography, with a beautiful atmosphere, dark and agsty. The characters were interesting as well. They were struck with misfortunes, and yet they endured. The male character was also passionate, almost paranoically, about his science and about the female lead.

However, the love story was odd, and it felt more like a story about a stalker and his victim than a man who falls in love with a witch. Also, the ending was rushed and was not nicely handled, especially since they added that time jump.

Finally, all the performances were great, and everyone in the cast did a good job with their performances.

So, overall, five out of ten.

They wanted 10 ep but could have 8!

This drama was interesting. It is very slow, and in the beginning, you might not like it, but give it a chance! Until episode 8, it was good and engaging, but episodes 9 and 10 felt unnecessary. Suddenly, they introduced the second male lead's story without explaining it properly, presenting it in a very vague and unclear way. It felt random and unnecessary.

Also, what was with the sudden falling in love? How could the female lead fall in love just by reading his writing, without knowing the person at all? That felt very strange and illogical. It seemed like they just wanted to add romance to avoid disappointing the audience, but honestly, it would have been better without it. The second couple's love story was the same—rushed, just so the girl didn’t die. I didn’t like that at all.

The story itself is very interesting. I liked how they showed every experiment the male lead was doing, but the last two episodes were disappointing. The unnecessary love story, excessive flashbacks, random plot twists (which didn’t feel like real twists at all), and rushed romance really took away from the experience.

I don’t know if I would recommend this drama. It is interesting, but the bad ending makes it less enjoyable. If you have time and don’t know what to watch, you could check it out, but don’t expect too much from the ending.

Promising story that was too big to fill expectations - was he just a stalker?

The Witch is a 10 episode k-drama with two big actors starring as the lead couple and an interesting premise. The concept of the show seemed fresh and with the shows setting being in the "real" world, delving into the unexplained / supernatural can - and proved to be - tricky.

I, as other k-drama watchers, had big expectations for the show and waited to watch it when all episodes had been released. After finishing the show, I was left to wonder why the show had been made, and approved with so little story and plot.

The drama relies heavily on the cinematography and repeating footage to drive home the characters thoughts and feelings, but it fails to actually establish a connection between the FL and ML at all. When the show is over, I just found myself having watched a glorified stalker collect data on an innocent girl that had little interest in him beforehand.

There is no character growth for the female lead at any point in the show. She never comes out from her shell, grows a backbone or does what she wants. It's only when the male lead forces himself onto her life that she suddenly by the last episode grows feelings for him. We also have no concept of time during most of the episodes, only knowing that the characters and story is showing the either when they are in high school or when they are adults.

For the first 8 episodes, we follow the actual story of both ML and FL seperately in their adolecense as well as ML when he is investigating and collecting data when he is an adult. Nothing really happens in the story apart from the flashbacks and the study that he investigates to prove the requisites for people getting hurt around FL. That is, until the last 2 episodes.

The last 2 episodes become a missing persons-drama that results in both the lead couple AND the second lead couple having confessed their feelings for each other. The issue at hand is that there was no "leading up" nor any chemistry in any of the romances. We are also hit with the realisation that the second ML apparently also suffers with the same condition as the main FL and that the data collected could help both of them. Great plottwist, super poorly excecuted unfortunately. All we think for the majority of the episodes is "why do we keep going back to the 2nd male lead/ the bff to the ml all the time??" only to find out the reason in the LAST episodes.

I was very disappointed with the execution of the show and the storytelling overall. The actors did the best they could but this was written, planned and directed in a way that the story was set up for failing both its audience and the story.

Death and Desire

In ancient Greek mythology, there exist 2 women whose beautiful singing calls sailors to their deaths . Their song is so beautiful, that the sailors, spell bound, steer close to the cliffs where their ships are then wrecked, and they die. These mythical women are called the Sirens, and they represent the intoxicating mix of death and desire.

The plot of this story revolves around a modern day Siren. We meet a woman who has an aura that beguiles men, but if they try to come too close, they will die. She calls on our sympathy - she is an attractive but everyday person, who in response to taunts of being called a witch, chooses solitude and isolation rather than risk harming anyone. We are unsure - is she really a witch? Is it all just bad luck?

The ML in this drama, like a modern day Odysseus, wants to get close to the Siren but stay alive. The tension of this drama is whether he can do so. Can he use logic to unpack the spell and be free to love? Or will his obsessive risk taking take him down?

This is a slow paced-melancholic tale with lots of moody music (lots of orchestral cello pieces) and dark colours. it's shot nicely, and well acted. Because of its pacing, it's probably not a binge watch, but has sufficient mystique to keep us curious.

An interesting modern take on an old myth - when beauty becomes dangerous. What it is it about beauty that makes people take such risks - become so intoxicated that they are willing to be destroyed? This drama explores this premise.

Absolutely lovely drama

I don’t even know where to start with how much I loved this show. I honestly am so impressed. It was such a dreamy, modern fairytalesque take on a story about love. I know some people thought it was slow and confusing. I thought it was perfectly paced with a lot of intrigue and mystery and you found yourself rooting for all of these loveable characters to find happiness, and each other. This one was right up my alley. 10/10!!
