It's your usual high-school love plot with your also usual couple trope... and it's cute.

This series was rotting on my watchlist for a few months, I watched the first episode then I suddenly dropped it since I thought the plot was too boring and plain for me without flavor. Then a few months later, I had nothing to watch so I picked it up again and I realized that dropping this series would be my mistake.

Yes, it is your usual plot with your usual couple trope. Amagi with his expressive appearance yet overthinks due to his love for Takara and separation anxiety. On the other hand, Takara with his cold demeanor, however, behind it has an expressive way of his words and actions to reach and communicate with Amagi.

I would categorize this as a series that does not need thinking or "analyzation". It is a cute and straightforward love story with your usual misunderstanding that I can somehow say contributes to their growth as characters. Amagi overcame his "flight response" by facing his problems personally, and Takara, despite his image, communicates well with his feelings to Amagi. All these developments would not happen without two of the interesting characters in the series, namely Katori and Tanaka. It was a bit disappointing that their characters were not fleshed out well and it's understandable due to the number of episodes. Katori with his nice save to their relationship and Tanaka with the support. I was also hoping that they should get their own side story since their chemistry and combination are very interesting.

Overall, it is a very fun and simple love story, I had my laughs and thrills with their love and I think that the series really gave me the vibes of a high-school love story setting. I realized that upon watching a LOT of JBLs, I learned to appreciate simple stories such as this one. I should also mention the OST, I really love the opening song by Sano Ibuki and it will definitely go straight to my playlist.

Cuteness and fluff overload :)

This was such a cute and fluffy drama. There is no angst. There were some tiny misunderstandings in the name of feelings, but other than that it was a good and enjoyable watch.

I really enjoyed watching Takara and Amagi. They are just pure cuteness of fluff together.
I also like their friends, Tanaka and Kitori. Such good friends that ar supportive of their relationship.
The ending ost is very nice too.

Overall this is one of my favorite Japanese BL, like 30 years old virgin, and the other fluff ones.
Super cute and fluff. Such a cute high school romance between two classmates that are from different social groups, but they like and have feelings for each other :).

It was kind of cute!

I binge watched this series and it was so worth it!
The main characters start off their relationship on a very unstable bases - they couldn't talk to eachother. Throughout the series they slowly build their relationship, communication and trust. It is slow, but steady and healthily developed. I liked that about it.

However the one thing that bothered me was the fact that sometimes it felt like a missed oportunity to move in their relationship. It just felt like it was stuck from time to time.
Overall a cute couple, I loved how they were the hyper introvert x calm introvert. They had a quite healthy relationship.
I'd watch it again!

Omg cutest first love

This was truly just a silly & sweet little first love story. My favorite part definitely had to be how Takara told Tanaka he likes a dude and Tanaka proceeded to have the most confused look on his face and even got as close as he could to the glass of the door to spy on his bestie and the new bf lol. 10/10 bestie right there.

Dull and stiff

I had to drop it in the end, I was just so bored. The characters were so hard to like, and they had zero chemistry. Takara was actually the more likeable one and he had no expression at all.

I get that they were trying to portray the awkwardness of a first love, and the story itself had potential, but they didn't manage it, in my opinion.
And what's with the weird filters?? Especially on Amagi.

It's not something I'd recommend to anyone looking for something to enjoy and become absorbed in, but it seems to appeal to people who like fluffy (in this case nothingy) romance.

Why a 10 ?

This is one of my favorite japanese BL series, everything about it is just perfect, the way the portraited both characthers pureness and inocence is amazing, the way the characthes comunicate with eachother (how every couple shoud) so that they don't argue over some miscomunication, all characthers ( not only the main coupe) were such well written. And not to mention the casting, OMG, they managed to find actors that are exactly the same as the manga and portrauted the emotions and personalitys so well. Really, it's simply a masterpiece. Totally recommend this BL series if you want a soft and heart-warming school romance.

Lovely BL to Rewatch

In short, I 💗 the story, acting, and settings so much. I love TakaraAmagi! I hope we get a season 2… I rewatch this just like I rewatch Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice But to Kiss, My Beautiful Man (especially Eternal), and My Personal Weatherman (something endearing about Japanese BLs). But this is my #1🫶🏽. Amagi is cute and so much fun to watch. He is so endearing to me. And Takara is a handsome green flag all the way. I love Katori and Tanaka as supports— they really add to the story. I want to see a season 2 where the two are in university or in jobs and still together and learning how to be in a relationship together. 💗💗💗 I hope the producers decide to gift us with Season 2…and maybe 3? 😉🥰🫰🏾

Kuudere Final Boss

I discovered this series after seeing a clip of it in a YouTube short, where I thought to myself "that wig looks pretty funny" and added it to my planned to watch list.

I didn't know much about this show ahead of time, but I thought it was going to at least be a little more enjoyable than this.
"Takara-Kun to Amagi-Kun" is presented as a cute series about an innocent romance between two high school boys who are trying to keep their relationship secret. However, upon watching it, I didn't quite get that same sweet impression. The story felt very sparse, with no serious structure. A lot of moments felt kind of randomly placed. I felt like a lot of the things that happened throughout just kind of ended up meaning next to nothing for the development of the story, and I couldn't really pinpoint whenever a scene was major to the plot or not.

The main characters, Takara and Amagi, are a super awkward, kinda angsty couple who I felt had barely any chemistry the entire time, which never really got better as the season went on. The acting was okay I guess, but both Takara and Amagi were characterized in ways that made them just sort of unlikeable to me. Amagi is a hyper-cute character that feels really fake and one-dimensional (which his shoehorned-in traumatic childhood backstory fails to help with at all). He felt more like a person pretending to be an anime character more than a real teenager. As for Takara, he was a little more bareable, but not by much. He is a mega kuudere who fails to show any emotion throughout the entire show, except for a couple tiny smiles towards Amagi as time goes on. I will say, I think the actor played him as decently as he could of, but the character is just so strange that I don't really care. Takara could have been a really good opportunity for the show-runners to write in some good character development, but he basically never changes. Towards the end, he starts to say more bold things, but he still keeps the same lifeless demeanour. The only character I genuinely liked in the show was Katori (the glasses guy). He was pretty funny and was very refreshing to see amidst the blunders of every other character.

Overall, this was a little below average mid-levels, and I honestly was getting bored in the second half. At least the ending was happy I guess, but still. Very cringey and jam-packed with lame tropes.

3.5/10.

I finished it just to see Tanaka and Katori scenes.

Wouldn't it be better if the main leads were Komiya Rio (Tanaka) and Suzuke Kosuke (Katori)? They have much more appealing visuals than the real main leads. I almost dropped this at episode 2 but since this is just a short series, I finished it. Thankfully, the late half of the series gives more scenes to Tanaka and Katori.

Also, the attitude/personality of both main characters does not fit for a main role truthfully. It gives a corny romantic relationship and a lackluster storyline.

Overall, this series is.... Mehhh. Empty. No impact.

So Cute I Keep Coming Back

One review I saw on here describes this show perfectly. It said "Reserved cool kid who must lean to communicate to keep the tiny disaster nugget he’s madly in love with." I couldn't describe it better. I genuinely love this show. It's cuteness personified.

A great exploration of first love - the excitement, uncertainty, jitters, and angst (due to overthinking) that come with it all. I love how these two get straight into a relationship and stay there, trying to figure things out. Best friend Katori is also the MVP here. Without him helping them communicate, this adorable pair would have ended up in flames.

I also love how utterly THIRSTY Takara is over Amagi. The man WANTS him, and it's hilarious. I appreciate the portrayal of him choosing to keep his desires at bay and wait for Amagi (his poor, blushing virgin) to be ready. Bare minimum, yes, but in the world of BLs, they tend to sometimes overlook consent & glamorize abuse. I appreciate the writers for this one
