"Is it real or am I dreaming?" A series that should be watched exactly 2 times!
The less I write about it, the more it'll make sense, because if you try to figure out everything in the beginning, you can't understand how Alan feels. This is a unique story about a clueless guy being clueless for 8 damn episodes only for you to see how complicated life can be when you don't understand what's going on with you. That restlessness, impatiently waiting for the story to reveal, "what the hell is happening?" is part of the process and, trust me, it all made sense.
In my opinion, it could be better if it was two episodes shorter because by the time I finished watching it, I had already lost my braincells waiting for the revelation. Once you discover it, the agony and despair hits you like the cold damp air in the depressing dawn of monsoon. So you watch this drama two times; first time for the journey and second time for the realization of being aware of the destination. It will hit the same as it did the first time.
"So, how was that? Was it more like a dream or a reality?"
"This isn't a dream?"
"I told you earlier, but you didn't believe me."
But the truth spares no one.
Did I make any sense?
I feel like I'm becoming Alan now.

Dark, Haunting, and Unforgettable: A Unique Start to Mystique in the Mirror
I was completely lost during the first ten minutes, so I had to pause and read the plot summary. That was the best decision I made because everything made so much more sense afterward. My biggest tip for anyone starting this series is to read the synopsis first. It doesn’t spoil anything, but it gives you the right context to understand Alan and what’s actually happening. This is the first time I’ve seen Tou in a leading role, and his performance as Alan absolutely blew me away. He’s intense and expressive, showing fear, confusion, and raw emotion with every scene. There’s one shower scene that stood out not just for his perfect physique but for how terrifying it felt because of the mirror. The combination of vulnerability and fear was brilliant.
Pentor as Win finally got his time to shine after acting in so many supporting roles, finally got a main role in this series, and even though he only appeared briefly, I could already feel the chemistry between him and Tou. It’s a pairing I didn’t expect to work this well, but it does.
The series opens with a dark, chilling atmosphere that immediately pulls you in. The haunting score, eerie visuals, and strong cinematography create a sense of unease that doesn’t let go. It’s intense, psychological, and slightly terrifying.
This is my first BL with a visual hallucination and mental hospital setting, and I love how different it feels from the usual light, fluffy stories.
I genuinely don’t recommend watching this alone at night like I did because it left me staring nervously at my own mirror afterward. But despite the fear, I’m completely hooked.
For anyone who felt lost after watching the first few episodes like I did, don’t give up or judge it too quickly. The confusion is part of the experience, not a flaw. If everything were explained right away, the mystery and tension that make this genre so captivating would disappear. Mystique in the Mirror is meant to leave you questioning and uneasy, that’s what makes it so intriguing. Personally, I thought this series was executed really well and perfectly captured the tone of a true psychological BL.

Through the Mirror’s Shadow: My Obsession with Mystique in the Mirror
Okay, I seriously can’t stop thinking about this series. “Mystique in the Mirror” is EVERYTHING — mysterious, emotional, creepy in the best way, and so beautifully written.Oh my god, how much I love this show! I’d even say I’m in absolute awe. I adore stories like this — the kind that make your brain work nonstop, where you have to think, analyze, connect clues, and still end up with more questions than answers. It’s like a massive, impossible puzzle, but it’s so addictive that you want to keep putting the pieces together.
This series is never boring. Not for a single second. I’m glued to the screen the whole time, totally absorbed. Sometimes my brain feels like it’s exploding because I have no idea what’s happening — but I love that feeling! The mystery, the confusion, the urge to understand — it’s all part of the fun.
And the actors? PERFECTION. Every performance feels so real and layered. The BL storyline develops slowly and beautifully — the chemistry between the main leads is insane. Like, seriously, the tension could set the screen on fire🔥 And the secondary couple? I love them so much — it’s so heartwarming to see them back together after so many years.
I’ve already watched three episodes, and honestly… I still have no clue what’s really going on 😭
Is Alan actually alive, or is he a ghost? Or maybe he’s alive and everyone else is a ghost?? Or could it be that Alan just sees spirits, and Win is one of them? And Dr. Nin — is he truly trying to help Alan, or is he secretly making things worse? And what is up with the new nurse, Pete? Why does he act so strange? And don’t even get me started on Dr.Ophat — those haunting, unnervingly intense looks he gives sometimes literally make me shiver. I swear, I have to look away from the screen!
So many questions. So few answers. But that’s exactly why I’m obsessed. I can’t wait for the next episodes to drop, because I need to know what’s really happening!
This show has it all — BL, mystery, horror, psychological drama — and it nails every single genre perfectly. I’m completely, utterly in love with “Mystique in the Mirror” 💜
10/10 — A haunting, beautiful masterpiece.

When Memories Become Home: A Story That Stays With You
Watching Mystique in the Mirror felt like stepping into a world I didn’t realize I needed — a world that held my heart from the very beginning and slowly, gently, broke it in the most beautiful way. From the first episode, I knew this series was going to take me somewhere emotional, somewhere unexpected, somewhere deep. The story pulls you in with its mystery, but what keeps you there is the way it makes you feel. Every moment carries a sense of longing, confusion, and quiet heartbreak as the truth slowly unfolds. The plot is rich with twists and layers, giving you puzzles to solve and emotions to untangle, all leading to a revelation that hits with full force.
The acting is truly exceptional — every expression, every silence, every glance feels real. The chemistry between the main leads, Alan and Win, is simply stunning. There’s a softness and sincerity in their connection that makes their love story unforgettable. You believe in their bond, in their history, in their forever.
By the time the last episode came, I felt everything at once — sorrow, understanding, grief, and gratitude. Watching Alan face the truth of his past, watching him hold onto the memories that made him happiest, and finally seeing him reunited with Win… it felt like a gentle ache in the heart that stays long after the screen goes dark.
Mystique in the Mirror isn’t just emotional — it’s deeply human. A story about love that refuses to fade, even when the mind does. I’m truly thankful that I watched it.
✨🩶🌙 A beautiful journey I’ll never forget.

The story is interesting in the beginning, then somehow it gets more and more confusing and not in a Sherlock Holmes way that you have to follow the bread crumbs and arrange the puzzle to get the whole picture!
No it's in a very boring way, I almost fell asleep while watching.
The whole thing could be solved if they have shown him the video, I don't understand the need for all this encryption if they can solve all his struggles in 30 seconds.
Also you can easily watch the first episode and half of the last one and you will understand the whole story without missing a thing, which is weird considering that this should be a psychological drama with story building up and so to reach a final conclusion, but no, you can easily fill the blanks with anything after watching 1.5 episodes out of 8.
One thing I didn't understand was spoiler in the synopsis here, we all knew before starting the show that his "father" is dead which was a secret that was revealed in THE LAST EPİSODE.
Also I respect the "horror" elements they tried to include because it's a psychological drama, but they failed in this part miserably.
I mean after finishing, I don't understand the reason we have to invest all this time and emotions to follow a plot about a secret that needn't be a secret and requires only a few seconds to put this poor man out of his misery.

unique premise
Overall: the confusing plot (though intentional) and distrust that the main romance was real made me not invested in this series. Major ending spoiler in the comments. Adapted from the book "Mystique in the Mirror" by Patrick III Rangsimant which I haven't read and this review is based on the series. 8 episodes about 45 minutes each. Aired on iQIYI https://www.iq.com/play/mystique-in-the-mirror-episode-1-13h4cxtv8zg?lang=en_usContent Warnings: held against will (complicated), non con kiss (complicated), past death, death, grief
What I Liked
- a different premise
- that we couldn't see the ending/it was unpredictable
- fantastic finale
Room For Improvement
- the suspense was more confusing so it didn't keep me hooked
- since I doubted the main romance, I was never fully invested in it
- dubious medical ethics (I'm not a doctor, but some of the medical stuff felt dramalandish)

This is a series that should not be rated lower than 8/10.
Overall, I enjoyed watching this series, but only the scenes I really like. Their acting is absolutely amazingThe cinematography and lighting are stunning. it feels like every scene has a purpose.
In Ep 1, I think there are some parts that are quite interesting, but the storytelling in certain moments made me raise my eyebrows, as if I were watching a drama produced in an older era.
But even so, I still tried to keep an open mind while watching this series.
After Ep 3 gave me a bit of hope to continue watching this series. It felt like the most relaxing moment after having a headache for two hours straight.
come to think of it… Alan keeps dreaming about that kind of thing, doesn’t he? It’s so funny I almost died laughing.
And I’m also curious about Nat. If Alan fell in love with Win when he was 18, then how old was he when he had his first love? He even remembers Nat and English better than Win, the person he actually loves.
I really couldn’t stand the scene where the doctor kept clicking his pen over and over. It reminded me of the times during exams when the person at the next desk would click their pen loudly, It made my brain feel like it was about to explode. This doctor makes me feel like I want to file a complaint.
As for the secondary couple, their relationship would probably seem completely normal in real life. But when it appears in this series, it somehow feels incredibly strange (We’re in the middle of a war, yet these villagers are out here casually mowing the lawn like it’s just another relaxing day.)

Bitter Sweet Journey of Alan and Win
From the start till end I didn't read any of the spoiler comments because of the suspense. They made really fantastic. Ofcourse in the synopsis they reveled the important thing. I think someone should have to edit the synopsis to not reveal the suspense. There are something I've guessed that Alan is the old man, Win and Nate are imaginations of Alan, Win is his lover, this hospital belongs to Alan, etc.., I feel sad because once Win told that "if you find out the truth you might lose your happiness" but they changed the thing that he was happy because of his son, the doctor Nil, and the acceptance of that Will is not there. But I didn't expect that Alan will die. But that's a great thing because he will suffer once again when he lose his memory, then he stuck into that loop. Now he can peacefully with his Win and Nate. No one there to question him.Highly Recommended Series.

I’ve always said that a new BL theme is exciting, but this one truly set a new record. I honestly never expected to cry at the end, especially since someone had already spoiled the ending of the series/book.You can find more of my reviews on Instagram. :D See my homepage about my Instagram account. The shifts between realities added mystery, but they also felt more like a “trick” than solid storytelling. The suspense leaned more on aesthetics than true psychological tension, and there wasn’t enough inner development to really carry the emotional weight. On top of that, the storylines of the other two couples : Nin and Alex, and Ophat and Pete, came across as pretty shallow and didn’t match the emotional intensity the series seemed to be aiming for.
Still, the final episode had me in tears because Alan and Win’s love story was just beautiful. An eternal love that overcame everything. And I have to give credit to the actors Tou Sedthawut and Top Sahatchai for bringing Alan to life so powerfully.

A True Thriller
Mystique in the Mirror is intense, gripping, and expertly written. The story does an excellent job of dragging you wherever it wants, weaving between confusion and fear, bobbing between the intense highs and the uneasy lows. I watched this incredible work of art without watching a trailer or reading the synopsis--I wasn't even sure that it'd be BL! I highly recommend watching it this way: Because I didn't know anything about the show before watching it (including what type of horror it was--paranormal, psychological, etc), I had so many theories in the first few episodes. All of them turned out to be wrong, but half of them had a hint of truth. I have the feeling I got exactly as close as the writers wanted me to be. The endless questions are an essential part of the experience: this is how the writers enable you to truly understand Alan's world. They give you just enough information to know that things are wrong, but not nearly enough to actually figure it out. I normally find series predictable, but I could never guess what would happen next, much less the ending.Your questions will be answered, but you have to be patient. I wish I could tell you what emotion I felt at the end of the show, but let's just say my heart is still pounding as I write this, an hour later. The series is an emotional rollercoaster, building enough suspense and fear to have you on the edge of your seat, questioning reality, then make your heart race as you plummet with the breakdowns and action. The first few episodes have a lot of building, but they are important and really set the tone of the show. In the beginning, it felt like it was taking too long to get any answers, but after finishing the show, I think the pacing is perfect. If the series was any shorter, the ending wouldn't have been as impactful. Now knowing the ending, I want to immediately rewatch. I wonder how much more I will pick up on now that I know what the destination is, and I know you will feel the same way.
I've spoken a lot about the plot and writing, so I'll add a bit on the acting. Tou is phenomenal as Alan; you can see every emotion, every question on Alan's face as he navigates his turbulent and impossible-to-understand life. You feel the fear and the frenzy right along with him. Everyone else is also great in their roles, I really enjoyed Tenon as Pete ( I'm really hoping to see more of him soon) and Rudklao as Si.
My only notes are these:
1. This is a Thai production, and it has the typical Thai style--occasionally abrupt tonal changes between scenes and heavy reliance on music even in casual conversation scenes. With the genre of the show, I was expecting less of the lighthearted/silly music to be used, but the usage was pretty similar to other Thai BLs I've seen. In this instance, I think it took away from the story, but on the other hand, it gave a comforting and familiar reprieve from the intensity of the rest of the show. It's a matter of personal preference.
2. Some of the support character interactions felt forced, with two of the relationships (friends, lovers, family, etc) feeling very rushed. I won't say much more on that for reasons you'll have to find out.
3. Dr. O rubbed me the wrong way, but I'm not sure if it's a writing issue or an acting issue. Maybe I will rewatch and update with what I decide.
Overall, it is an excellent watch and well worth your time--I am so glad I used my time for it.
