The feeling of love not just through romance, but through friends, family, and your hometown.
This drama has made me go through so many emotions whilst watching it, and I think it conveys the lots of different types of love that people seem to forget that exists within the world today, myself included. The portrayal of Samdal going back to her hometown to reconnect with her family and ultimately Cho Yong-pil I think was executed very well, ultimately showing that sometimes love simply doesn't fade that easily, no matter how much we want it to. I really like how they made it so Yong-Pil never backed down, and just went face first into everything he did, but still showed so much emotion through his actions and beliefs. Both Shin Hye Sun and Ji Changwook are extremely good actors, and I could really feel them learning through their emotions in real time whilst watching.THE BIGGEST THING I ENJOYED ABOUT THIS DRAMA IS THE FAMILY. Yong-pil's dad portray anguish so well, and it really hit home when he finally forgave Mi-ja for her actions 30 years ago. The parent's played such an important role into the story line, and they depicted it so perfectly, with Mi-ja being stoic about her punishment until something more important took over and Yong-pil's Dad just being unforgiving until the thought of their kids really put me through the feels.
On the more sad note, I feel for Bu Sang-Do. I do really like that they never made him a villian, for he became so much more relatable that sometimes it just isn't meant to be. I love how as the drama went on, the focus of the drama became Samdal discovering herself once again rather than her focusing on fixing her career, and just the wave of emotion that came through all the characters whilst watching this drama is the biggest reason why I'm giving this a 10/10. This is my version of a drama to get you into your emotions, and I think the ability to let your own pent-up emotions while watching is why I enjoyed it so much.
I suggest everyone give this one a try, it's truly one that touches the heart.

Not perfect but nice
This was cute but I didn't get any sense of romance between the leads. I LOVE these actors but feel it would have been better cast with late 20s actors and that timeline. The characters were all pushing 40 and that wasn't in keeping with their actions. Also, why the leads were allowed to date for years, and then absolutely not just didn't make sense for me. But beautiful scenery and fun side characters. The setting was charming and it was never boring... it just seemed like a missed opportunity. But JCW is always lovely and I'll watch anything he appears in.Was this review helpful to you?

Not into it
The plot was too slow for my liking. It was so hard for me to finish some episodes i don't know why. It just wasn't enough to keep me invested. Some of the characters were very annoying like i didn't vibe with what they did. The parents also kind of pissed me off especially the ml's dad. God he is a very miserable and bitter man, i could not stand him. I get that he is still sad about his wife but he controls his son and then behaves so selfishly over things that had nothing to do with his kid. I'm also not feeling the lead's chemistry much for some reason.Was this review helpful to you?
Lovely, healing and heartwrenching
Lovely: the village folk, to see JCW reunited with his surrogate mom from Healer, the beautiful chemistry between the leads and their families.Healing: the scenery, the ocean, how to deal with your first love when he/she is suddenly very much back in your life?
Heartwrenching: JCW looking at SHS and vice versa. So excited for romance to come (Back). Her backstory in Seoul. The sister with the kid - interested in her story!
I love it so far. Relatable emotions and great acting. I like both leads very much and the have great chemistry. Can’t wait for more.

wonderful
This drama was so highly anticipated and thankfully it delivered. Shin hae sun and her team more than delivered. She was in her all encompassing roles of acting versatility and range. The storyline may appear simple and down to earth but the delivery from all the actors made it so intriguing and so captivating. So pleased that year 2023 should close with a drama worth watching. Recently there are too many new releases that unfortunately showcase the actors visuals but failed to convince on their acting skills. Kudos to all members of wts team for such a great drama with genuinely brilliant acting prowess.Was this review helpful to you?

Not my cup of tea... for now.
The drama was not for me because it dragged on and fell short of what should have been explored more deeply. The misunderstanding between the main couple and its unraveling in their relationship was slow, but the resolution was incredibly quick, based on spoilers I’ve seen.The FL is lied to and mistreated because of her assistant. And the misunderstandings around her, in Seoul, continue for basically the whole show. However, the resolution of the situation is so quick, from what I’ve seen, jumping ahead in the drama. We don’t get to see the assistant face the consequences of her actions, and we don't get to see the redemption of our FL professionally.
I could tell that the drama was going to be good when it came to the unpacking of the emotional scars that the main cast faces. However, I could also tell that the story would close out in an unsatisfying way. for me personally.
Will I try and rewatch? Maybe. I picked this drama up after being in a slump with K-dramas, which could explain my impatience with the story and how it progressed.
So basically, take this review with a grain of salt. lol.

A Small Town Romance With Quirky Characters
JTBC’s latest offering “Welcome to Samdalri” is a decades long saga of friendship, lost love and reconciliation. Starring Ji Chang Wook and Shin Hye Sun in the lead roles of Cho Yong Pil & Cho Sam Dal/Cho Eun Hye, the show transverses their journey as they reconnect after eight years of separation. The first thing that I noticed about this show is the scenic beauty. Shot in the backdrop of the beautiful Jeju island, the show banks on the small town life and its busy yet nosy neighborhood. Set in Samdalri (which is native to both Cho Yong Pil & Cho Sam Dal), the drama focuses on their reconciliation as Sam-dal returns to her hometown when her career plummets and she is at her wit’s end. The pilot episodes were pretty decent at introducing the individual characters and their current lives while keeping their past shredded in mystery. There is a lot going on in the backdrop that we are unaware of and these invisible issues have been adversely affecting their relationship for almost a decade. The FL character is so problematic
Seriously the way the FL character is portrayed 6 episodes in is so problematic. I dont know if I should continue watching this until the end or just drop this right now. It is hard to accept that someone who worked her ass off to make a name for herself will just sit down and play the victim when she had every opportunity and resources to fight back. If its the mental health card that the scriptwriter is playing, it kinda feels unrealistic for me. Thankfully I find the characters around the FL entertaining - the male friend who owns the store, the niece, the gossiping ajummas.Was this review helpful to you?
Salah Satu Drama healing terbaik untuk mengawali tahun 2024
Jajaran Cast yang bagus, Sutradara yang berpengalaman dan ScreenWriter yang sudah mendulang sukses di drama drama sebelumnya dan dieksekusi dengan apik menjadikan drama ini jadi salah satu drama yang istimewa.Drama ini membawa kesan-kesan nostalgia "when the camellia blooms" bukan hanya saja lokasinya yang mirip pinggir pantai, tapi juga kebersamaan tetangga tetangganya yang suka julid tapi sangat peduli satu sama lain.
akting dari para pemain yang sangat baik dan totalitas.
chemistry yang dibangun antara samdal dan yong pil bener bener klop abis.
bukan hanya itu, tapi persahabatan yang dibangun sejak kecil bersama ketiga temannya yg lain,
hubungan ketiga saudara perempuan dan keluarganya juga dikemas dengan sangat baik.
bahkan hubungan antara ibu dan anaknya jujur sangat amat bagus disini, amazed sekali.
anak sekecil itu dapat memaikan peran sangat baik, benar benar mirip dengan Pil Go di when the camellia blooms dimana seorang anak dipaksa menjadi dewasa.
Bukan hanya jalan ceritanya yang bagus, Soundtrack lagu pengisinya pun enak enak didengar.
Menjadi Drama yang sangat amat wajib masuk watchlist bagi yang belum menonton.
