A Bold “What If” Drama

I just finished Trigger on Netflix 30 minutes ago and it really stuck with me.

The premise alone is powerful: what if South Korea, a country with some of the strictest gun laws in the world, suddenly found itself flooded with illegal firearms? The show dives into how quickly society can unravel when that line is crossed and it does so with intensity and thoughtfulness.

What makes Trigger so engaging is the clash between its two leads. On one side, a principled ex-sniper who believes in justice through law and restraint. On the other, a mysterious figure who sees chaos as the only path to fairness—arming the powerless and letting them decide the fate of their oppressors. Their ideological battle gives the drama both heart and tension, and the performances are phenomenal.

The show doesn’t just focus on action, though. It raises bigger questions about justice, morality, and how fragile order really is when weapons land in everyday hands. That’s what makes it so unsettling and unforgettable.

If I had one critique, it’s that the ending felt deliberately vague. It’s not entirely clear if true resolution was reached, which makes me wonder if a Season 2 could be possible. Either way, the ambiguity fits the theme, leaving you with a lot to think about.
Bottom line: Trigger isn’t just a thriller, t’s a social mirror. Tense, sharp, and emotionally charged, it’s one of those rare dramas that entertains while also making you reflect long after it ends.

Adding here: Didn't help the "villain" was so damn attractive lol.

Good but overrated

I have to admit I watched this because of the many edits I've seen for moon baek and because I really love Kim nam gil.
Sadly, it falls short to the mark~

Acting was the only good thing about it, KNG and KYK were great in their roles but the drama tried so hard to be so philosophical which made it lose it's charm halfway through it ~

It revolve around a hypothetical scenario when rules and laws fails us, can we obtain justice with our own hands? Kinda like the batman dilemma.

The end is extremely sugar coated, unnecessarily and unrealistically ~

Starts good then turns disappointing

The drama until the middle is pretty good with a nice build up of the story. The presentation of the ML and other characters is well made. Many of them are endearing and it makes you curious to know how they will solve their problems. Some cases are predictable. Some are not. Many are nicely violent and bloody. The mystery about the guns and how they are distributed is also well handled.

The problem is that once all the parties involved are recognized, the story turns into a cops chasing guns/bad guys and it is not so good. ML becomes a super cop with super shooting skills to get rid of dumb gangsters. There is a lot of pathos in the lecturing and the explanation of the choices made or to make. At some point, it wants so much to look sad, it is ridiculous and unrealistic. The logic behind the guns distribution is weak with a silly ending. There are some plot holes as some endearing characters just vanished. Finally, the ML survives but the bad guys too. So there is no real satisfaction.

Overall, I enjoyed the drama until it just went downhill. 7/10

great start that went downhill really fast

so this series has a great idea or story to tell , that you will never understand human nature , if you had the chance to kill those who wronged you will you do it or will you let go ?

with this great idea this drama started strong but will poor execution and rushed ending it turned out really disappointing.

we didn't get to see why moon baek [blue brown ] wanted to sell guns in Korea I mean I don't think It was just business , we didn't get to see his motives , even that he took revenge on the people who harmed him when young ,he just continued selling guns to the whole country , so what was his plan ? was it just for chaos???

the ending was so rushed like in ep 9 lee do was shot and was in a coma when he woke up the whole country was turned against each other , I mean time was flying in the last 2 episodes and I don't get what they were building for in the first 8 episodes no character development nor did we get to see the main character motives instead we focused on the secondary characters which was great nonetheless, but we neglected the main storyline .

overall great idea that wasn't executed so greatly .

Ridiculous and Very Disappointing

So disappointing with a great actor like Kim Nam Gil, but wow this was bad. It had cartoon-character villains, extreme sentimentality, silly dialogue, a caricature of a psychpathic villain, and ethically inconsistent views (both that guns are terrible and that even so when you see a horribly abused person use one you feel rather happy he/she got their revenge). The lead character is portrayed as heroic to the point of being angelic yet is also described as a former mercenary who has killed 99 people (what exactly was he doing then that makes him so morally pure today)? The sentimental twists are blatantly forecast and must have been embarrassingly bad for some of the good actors to play, and the failure of the police to arrive at or effectively cope with ongoing emergency situations was very implausible given what is shown in other k-drama thrillers.

Great acting saved badly written drama.

I was so looking forward to this drama as the concept is really interesting, but the drama did not deliver. It was an easy watch as it is only 10 very short episodes.
To be honest, I stayed for the acting as it was great and mostly for the villain, as Young Kwang was born to be a villain. I saw his drama Eviline and he slayed the role as well.

I wish they spent more time on the stories of the victims, as the most touching was about the students. You feel for them as there is no justice if you have no money and nobody cares, so instead of ending their life, they choose the gun. I get what Moon Baek wanted to achieve, as the situation in Korea is appalling. The suicide rate is over the roof, people been chased/killed by loan sharks, bullying... one day you reach the point of desperation and pull the trigger. The story of the gangsters was unnecessary and did not bring much to the drama; I would say it was quite the opposite. It would be better if they explored the impact on society and if people would start to change. Also portraying the police as useless and in the meanwhile Lee Do sorts and saves everyone by himself. Especially the last fight, he kills the whole commando. The ending did not feel right and not satisfying at all.
The script is just a mess, and the acting saved the show.
It is an okay drama, not bad, not great. Such a shame as if it was done properly, it could have been awesome.

Overall Worth The Watch

I feel like it was a strong start with the gusiwon (sorry if that’s misspelt) guy battling his internal struggle to crash out, and the high school students being bullied wanting to end the torture. But, it got a bit lost in the sauce with making such a big deal out of the gang plot. I thought it would be more geared towards how ordinary citizens would act when faced with owning a gun, not a bunch of gang fighting over guns, as anyone would expect to happen.

I’m glad the gang plot only lasted a few episodes and the show came back around to circling the choices of regular citizens, but that part felt a bit rushed since they focused so much time on the gang plot. As I saw someone else say, the end felt kinda rushed and not as explosive as it could’ve been. It would have been nice to see more societal corruption and how the government tries to handle it, because realistically, everyone isn’t giving up their guns after seeing one heartwarming moment at the end of a riot. It rushed coming to the “happy ever after—there’s no more guns” when it would be a much bigger issue that takes way longer to handle.

Now Moon Baek—I love the the layers of his character. I know he was a bad person, but I could understand his thought process because of everything he went through. I’m not justifying it, I’m just saying I understand why he went a bit crazy. I loved his personality when he was playing Lee Do’s silly little sidekick, though.

The acting was absolutely wonderful, other than the “Americans”. I might be nitpicking, but it bothers me that they use people with heavy British accents to play Americans in K-dramas. They’re also super robotic and speak in a way that no one actually speaks.

Overall—it was a good watch with well shot action scenes. It was definitely worth the time, I just wish it wouldn’t have focused so hard on the gang plot.

Ending was unsatisfying

Ending was rushed at the end and was left open. I didn’t like that part. could have been better with 12 episodes to flush out the ending. But acting was amazing I enjoyed watching
but I knew who the “bad guy” was because I knew the actor but he was still good
but wouldn’t watch again because of the ending it was wasted deserved better and the actors to
very good
I have the keep writing for 500 character limit it that’s dumb but anyway dramas good …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Netflix trying to create a Korean John Wick gone wrong.

This is a classic story when what was a great business of Korean drama started going downhill once they became so commercialized. Typical of Netflix who created Squid Games to gain more viewers through sensationalism and violence. The acting is superb I will give them that but the storyline is just plain ridiculous for a $30 million dollar budget. Let’s make a series and show how stupid the Korean government could be and their sense of security is just an oxymoron. After all SK is always in alert and never in this show did they show this to be true. This is why I’ve been watching less K drama and more C drama for its content but got caught with the hype.

A mixed story of Squid Game and Weak Hero Class

-At first, the vibe was like in the Weak Hero Class. This film brought attention to bullying in schools and all kinds of bullying. And revealed that every single person is a kind hearted person, but they went crazy from the bullying. This is Weak Hero Class.

-The second thing is, the message, the point is the same as Squid Game. How easy it is to manipulate, to change people if they get an "opportunity" and prove that humanity sucks by putting a gun in their hands and it is their choice whether to pull the trigger or not. Lee Do was like Gi-hun. And we don't have a clear answer as to why Moon Baek did what he did. In the SG it was more clear about the frontman.

-There were so unlogical things, like why it's so easy to walk into a police station with a gun in your hand.
We have very few characters and after many incidents, people acted as if nothing had happened.

-The ending was like an ending of an episode, not a season. It was just so weird and not complete. The whole series was very dizorganized.

-The only independent message is built solely around revenge, the decision is in our hands and we can defeat revenge.

•Overall, in my opinion, it's not a bad series, I think the idea is not that unique but good, I like the acting, but the workmanship was bad.

I for one liked this drama. It nailed the coffin on the head concerning how far people will go once they get pushed too far. I don't know...I guess I'm twisted because I enjoyed watching the people who were pushed over the edge get their just desserts. The revenge factor wasn't watered down. It felt real. There are people out there who have been pushed to the brink that makes them get rid of the people who have tormented them for fun. Especially bullies. I can't stand bullies. I love it when a bully gets owned and that happened a lot in this series. Now some got away with making other people's lives miserable a few did not.

I don't know how most countries operate when guns are at play but as for here, in the US, it looks like this type of drama every day. There are measures that's been taken for someone to legally obtain a weapon but there's also a lot of people who have illegally obtained one which is why bad things have always turned out the way it do.

From my take on this drama: never tick a person off because you never know how short their fuse is.

A lot of people complained about the last episode...I don't know how else the last episode could've ended but I'm OK with how it ended. Usually I hate last episodes of Korean dramas because a lot of the times it's too wordy and everything gets wrapped up in a news segment and then it's over.

There are some things in the last episode that left me scratching my head. I don't know but there may be a sequel? There was a scene where the person who started all of the chaos wanted someone else to pick up where the original bad guy left off so that could mean it may be a sequel but it means it may not. I don't know how that would play out if a sequel will follow.

If you can't stomach gun violence then it's suggested that you don't watch. Otherwise it you like seeing bullies getting owned then maybe this drama is for you.

pointless instead of trigger

whoever rather this movie higher must have been an amerikkkan viewer. this was the most worthless serie i watched for an Asian made drama!! im not against Action Movies ,but they mixed this one with social issues and that is disturbing!! because only a producer paid by amerikkkan investors would write such a story..is the Asian movie market so hell bend over to have a foot in the amerikkkan movie world??

the story: the begin was good, but lacked a direction the serie was going.after the first half you will get a western style of storytelling that doesn't make sense at all gloryfing everything in a controversial way. for what just pointless.they didn't tae the opportunity to show that their are other ways except for violence.

acting: i hope they where paid enough to consider playing such a worthless characters.

the only positive about this movie is the wreckless driving scène, this is the first time i didn't forwarded it

don't waste your time watching it,if you want to watch a trigger pointless good action serie/movie go watch hard boilled
