One of the top dramas of this year!!!
i got this drama reccomended by netflix and was curious about it since it was in the top 10 at the time- I SEE WHY IT WAS IN THE TOP 10!! THIS HAS TO BE IN MY TOP 10 LIST OF AMAZING KDRAMAS- the plot is amazing and this is not your normal time travel drama or any of that. there are more aspects to the drama and i felt like the actors delivered it perfectly!! the acting was so on point- so much that it made me feel emotions ive never felt- ON AN INTENSE LEVEL. I SWEAR I CRIED IN ALMOST ALL OF THE EPISODES!!! every single one of the episodes had a captivating feel and some amount of suspense. each episode had me absolutly HOOKED to the story ,like and the ending was well deserved. i would very much reccomend this as a romance / time travel drama with some aspects of comedy!! I LOVE THIS SMMMWas this review helpful to you?

Weird ahh ending
I started off really liking this and that feeling didn't really fade until we got up to the last episode, but I will get into that later. I saw a lot of people commenting on how confusing the plot was to follow after I had already finished it but personally I had a really easy time following along and knowing what was happening, the main thing that was going on in my mind was “this dude better not fucking die” because I hadn’t seen a single thing about that show so I had absolutely no idea what happened throughout the show. Hell I didn’t even know they had powers until maybe the second episode, thought they were just very weird. But I actually did enjoy this a lot, it surprised me how good it was. I was giggling and kicking my feet whenever the main couple interacted with each other because of their dynamic, and I love how he never backed down. He was even willing to possibly die for her at the end, mostly because it was technically his fate to do so but still like cmon. He was literally in all of her first moments too, might be a bit creepy but hey they were meant to be. It actually got me to tear up a bit too, with the daughter's story and her basically being the reason her mom died. And her interaction with gwi-ju whenever he found out that she had mind reading powers was really heart warming, both of them had been through a lot and had just been watching each other from the sidelines until then it was a very nice moment to watch them be together like that. I have to say I really did hate da-hae at first because I thought she was just an insane liar but learning her backstory of bullying and orphan life made me like her and not absolutely despise her as a character. And in the end, be it the wrong time, she did the right thing and told the lie even though if she got the money right then and there she would have been free from her debt collector. Now to the thing that made it go from 100 to a 95. That fuckass ending, sorry it's just way too much for me that this 5 year old went back and got him from the past. Too weird and I just find it so insanely stupid, other than that weird ahh ending. Beautiful series no other complaints. Was this review helpful to you?

Not only the family is atypical, but also the plot! This family no longer has extra powers and the only person who can recover them is this girl (who approaches them with deception). The soundtrack is nothing special, a little confusing for this character who moves in time, the actors act well but without a particular alchemy.

Wow, such a lack of imagination!
The Atypical Family had so much potential but fell short of lack of imagination. I liked that the family had superpowers but the powers were somewhat obscure and had "no rhyme or reason". It would have been nice if the plot led to the family pulling their powers together nearing the end to solve the main dilemma. It would have been nice if there was some background on why they have powers. It would have been nice if they had explained why the ML can only go back in time to see moments with the FL after his powers mutate. It does explain why they have lost their powers. Was this review helpful to you?

WOW!
The headline says it all!I knew this drama is going to be great, but it actually surprised me a lot of times. For that alone, it deserves a high score!
We could say it has an original plot, likable and real characters, and it has a LOT of fun and meaningful moments as well.
There were only a couple of things I didn't like, that's why I can't give a perfect score.
(CAN BE SPOILER!!!!)
1. I think they should've focus more on the character's personal issues, the reason they lost their powers.
2. I didn't like what they did with the antagonists. Honestly, they should've kept them on the bad side, especially the "mother".
3. Lastly, the ending was a bit off and unnecessary. If they wanted to save him, they could've done it differently. A 5 year old kid saving his father is a bit much for me.
Also, I think they could've done something with the legal side of the story, because literally no one cared about what they did. That was also weird.
Other than these minor issues, this is a fantastic show, and I highly recommend it!

What An Incredible Surprise!!!
What a magically surprise this drama was for me....
I was in between dramas and searching for something to fill my time and this popped up. For me "superpowers" is usually a red flag, so not into that BUT Atypical Family deals with it so beautifully and it is such an integral part of the story I LOVED it! The acting was wonderful, especially Jang Ki-yong, who I'd never seen before...but you can bet I'll go looking for more of his dramas immediately. Chun Woo-hee played her part so well and is one of the most arrestingly beautiful faces I've seen on a drama...she was captivating! The supporting cast was also great especially Park So Yi as the daughter I Na.... incredibly expressive face and eyes! Also loved the black, white and color effects used in Atypical Family!
If I have any complaints (and it's a tiny one) I'd have wished for one more episode to round out the story...it developed so well and slowly that his return, in the final few minutes of the last episode was fast and a bit abrupt...I mean was he a ghost? Was he there for good or could he just return when "called up" by his son? ?
And one last note, and probably one of the MOST outstanding parts of this drama was the ABSOLUTELY incredible OST!!!! My god, it totally made this drama that great work it is! I've already purchased (and listen to incessantly) two of my favorite pieces..."I See You" and the theme song "Atypical Family"...so hauntingly beautiful!! This drama is totally worth a watch...or two and do buy that soundtrack!

Well-Written Characters and an Original Story That Stands Out
Beautiful show, I love how it focused on family, allowing us to see the development of each character as well the romantic side. Each character was well fleshed out ,and you really got the chance to know them, especially I-na. She was quietly suffering because of her powers, but as her story unfolded, she gradually opened up.The ending was also really well done. At first, I was confused and wasn't sure I liked how the son was just holding Gwi-ju's hand. But after reading comments, I understood the true extent of his power. It's very similar to his dad's, but instead of having to go to the past, he can summon things from it (dangerous thing for a baby to have but that's besides the point lol). It explains why there was no body in the present: his son from five or so years in the future pulled him that many years forward. It's sad it took that long, but it was such a well thought out ending to a well thought out show with an amazing cast. The fact that this is an original story makes it even more impressive.

More Than a Romance
Netflix gives the genre as “romance” and it does center around one, but it’s about a lot more than that. It’s about how the pressures of life mess people up. It’s about family and found family and the terrible (and good) things they do to each other. It’s about the helplessness of feeling like one can’t change the past or the future. Some of the most moving moments in the show don’t even involve the main couple - though I did find them charming, especially Jang Ki Yong who seems to be a very versatile actor.
I also liked that it was something different. They had superpowers that had stopped working, and even back when they did work they were never superheroes. The FL was not insipid and sweet but a schemer.
It’s not a flawless show, and I was especially unimpressed by the use of the “self hating fat girl” stereotype. However even that is mitigated somewhat by the end.
This is one of my favorite shows of 2024 and I strongly recommend it.

1/2 Way Through...It's OK
The acting is great, the story less so. Slow moving and it leaves you guessing (a bit too much) for the back stories. How did this family come into their powers? Is this hundreds of years of a family with these powers? A recent curse? How did the sister gain all of that weight if she was once a successful model? Does the dad have powers or is he just along for the ride? After six episodes of a 12-episode series, one would think that the characters, especially the leads, would be a bit more fleshed out.

The Adam’s Family Meets The Hallyu Wave (Everything Korean)
All the up front synopsis for the new Korean Drama Atypical Family that I read on the Internet seems to be wrong. The story is not outlined as projected by news sources. Atypical Family did not meet my 15 min “love it or leave it criteria”. However, there certainly was enough hidden back story revealed to let me know that there was enough paint on the canvas to make me stick around. This story is so very complex.Revealed in the first episode, therefore, these are no spoilers.
1. The male lead has superpowers which he feels are a curse.
2. The male lead was married to his wife, who gave birth to their first child.
3. She died in a car accident, which appears to have been caused by her.
4. He could not use his superpowers to save his wife.
5. His mother forewarned him of this pending doom.
6. The death of his wife caused his depression, which caused him to loose his superpowers.
7. The whole family has superpowers, but they all have lost them, because of modern medical diseases.
8. The female lead is actually a grifter. She has been planted into this family by a thievery gang, because the family is rich. Her sole purpose is to steal money from this rich family and to give it to the thievery gang for which she works. She thinks that the information about the family is nonsense.
9. This drama is so weird. It is so atypical from the typical Korean Drama.
10. I see the paint on the canvas and it looks like an evolving masterwork.
Mind sufficiently blown. I can’t even figure this one out. Left very intrigued. I am so excited. Episodes post Saturdays and Sundays.
@ Edit: This is such a brilliant drama, from the mind of someone who got in a perfect lane of thought. I am going to drop spoiler explanations in the comment section below, to help those who might be puzzled. Look for them.
What is a spoiler? It is when the drama is bicycling in one direction and then makes a significant turn to another direction and you reveal this. It is very rare that the first episode will contain spoilers, because the drama has not had a chance to progress forward.

Episode 12
Why did GwiJu have to go back to the school fire to save DaHae? Did it change anything in their future? How was the son able to travel back to a time when he wasn't even born yet? How was a 5yo able to save GwiJu from a fire if he had no other superpowers but to bring people back? GwiJu would have had to save Ina and DaHae before being brought to the future but the facade had collapsed on him immediately. I was a little disappointed with the ending. They tried to show too much in one episode. Was this review helpful to you?
