This made me start watching k-dramas again after a 4 years hiatus!
(this review could be biased by the fact that I actually imagined myself having children with that Man)let's start by the most important factor that made this drama that good, THE ACTING, Woo Do Whan was too good I was feeling all the distress he was feeling, he is such a great actor that many times is judged only by his (EXTREMELY) good looks but he was outstanding and he should get more reconignotion for that, also the chemistry between the main couple was such a different vibe from the one they usually deliver in K-dramas, it was like they actually were a couple that were in love but then broke up but still love each other, and it's shown in the way they are not embarrassed and they feel very comfortable with each other.
The plot was cool but very tragic and made me stare at the wall thinking about how I am wasting my life not making the right choices.
The music choice was unexpected in the most positive way, California dreaming is stuck in my head rent free.
I would recommend this drama 100000/10 cause it's also the reason I am now starting watching dramas again. <3

promised trauma delivered
…you know right from the beginning, how it all ends… As if the first moments from this series weren’t painful enough, the story keeps hammering you and while there are some funny moments in this drama, the line of life for the main character is reminding you how cruel life can be…Tragic fate of Hae Jo truly traumatized me and as the end was nearing, I was crying more often and more loudly… it’s been some couple dozen minutes since I finished this series and I’m still crying and I can’t get over it :(((((((

No woman (no one really) deserves this
Let's be honest: If Hae Jo was played by Oh Jung Se (or any other non-conventionally attractive actor) and not Woo Do Hwan, NO ONE would have perceived this story as anything close to romanticWhen I started it, I genuinely thought that it'd be a great drama. One of the best of 2024, however, everything was ruined by the romance btwn Hae Jo & Jo JaeMi. It was the textbook definition of a toxic love with a toxic, selfish, and cruel man. Hae Jo is not only horrible to the supposed love of his life, but also utterly horrible to his adoptive mother/older sister.
Maybe they were trying to frame this as he has a hard time expressing his feelings, so you need to look beyond what he says to see what he really means, but that's a heck no for me. I would not want a person who uses my insecurities to hurt me, -simply because they are going through something or they are trying to save me from themselves -, in my life.
He insulted JaeMi in such cutting ways and abandoned her much too much. He also ruined her potential love life for selfish reasons, knowing he was going to die. And to reiterate, he was also really crappy to his adoptive mother/older sister. Basically, he is a shit man who ruined the show for me
The only positive here is that Eo Heung & Jae Mi didn't get married. Jae Mi didn't love that man, and Eo Heung, while he did love her, his reasons for wanting to marry her were wrong. I'm glad (for him) that they went their separate ways. It allowed him to finally get under his mother's thumb, stand up for himself by himself, and find himself

A sobering lesson on karma and healing
Mr. Plankton died at the end. BUT it is the best end he COULD have had, since his karma was so bad and he never overcame it,so at the very end of his life, when he was forced to, he tried to clean up his life trauma. HE TRIED TO THE BEST OF HIS ABILITY
he was a very immature and wounded person so his "best" was still quite disfunctional.... He refused to listen.... Looking good and strong on the outside, on the inside, he was ... broken ... and not working hard enough to put himself back. He did not love himself enough to really really really really really TRY.
This movie is horrifying, sad, and very sobering REALITY CHECK because it shows you to your face what happens when you refuse to clean up your past.
Mr Plankton did not try hard enough to change, and there were consequences.
Mr Plankton was not ready to take in good life. He took a crumb, bc that's all he could handle, and then died from his inability to hang onto his happiness
HE WENT AS FAR AS HE COULD HAVE. So yeah he died in peace.
HE NEVER DID THE INNER WORK TO TEACH HIMSELF THAT HE CAN LOVE HIMSELF AND BE HAPPY AND THUS MAKE HIS HAPPINESS POSSIBLE AND **** LIVE ***** like that
The side character of FL's boyfriend is fun and interesting during the drama, but ... after all this time, i remember only Mr Plankton. Bc he was so genuinely SAD, deeply sad inside him.... Sad, unloved, shaken, scared, abandoned, alone..... although he wasnt really. He found ppl to love him and acted nice to some but he himself wasn't opening to loving himself... . and thus was quite cruel to others, unintentionally
Very sad, tragic story of what happens when you dont clean up your shi%

Deserves watching
Honestly, one of the best k-drama I ever seen. Definitely one of my favorite, it's so beautiful ❤️ It will make you laugh and cry (a lot😭), it's a rollercoaster of emotions, but it's worth it. The acting is so good too! And I love the love story and characters so much. Everything it's so well done. Woo Do-Hwan did an amazing job with this role, his acting is amazing.Really, this show deserves so much, watch it❤️🩹

Still bawling… Mr. Plankton hit harder than I expected.
Damn, I’m still bawling my eyes out. I didn’t expect to cry this much. I’ve seen a lot of endings like this lately, but this one really broke me—maybe I’m getting soft. His acting was absolutely on point. And the female lead… the way she smiled at the end, despite going through the pain of losing him, hit me so hard. This wasn’t just about romantic love—it felt like something deeper. I loved how the plot showed them tangled together, despite their completely different mindsets and ways of living. The female lead was there purely for love—just for love. Even though she hated his outlook on life, she still chose him. She just wanted him.
God, I’m still bawling…

Mr. Plankton is an extraordinary K-drama that takes viewers on an emotional rollercoaster, blending humor, heartache, and profound moments of self-discovery. From the very first episode, I was captivated by the unique storytelling and the depth of the charactersThe series brilliantly balances lighthearted moments with heavy themes, such as abandonment and the quest for belonging and the The climax left me utterly devastated yet uplifted. I cried so hard at the end as Hae-jo came to terms with his identity and relationships, ultimately realizing that family is not solely defined by blood but by love and connection. The final scenes were beautifully crafted, leaving an indelible mark on my heart.
This K-drama is not just a story; it’s an experience that encourages viewers to cherish every moment and appreciate the people who truly matter in our lives. I wholeheartedly recommend Mr. Plankton to anyone looking for a series that will make them laugh, cry, and reflect on their own journey through life.

The irony of life
This show precisely captivated a lot of lifetime problems, from broken hearts to loneliness inside, that only yourself can see and battle.Acting is amazing, just from the eyes you can see emotional shifts, realization and acceptance. Very emotional drama, cried from happiness, cried from sadness.
Interpretation of comedy was spot on, not too overwhelming, not too cliché.
Feels so close to reality, you hide yourself, you mourn yourself, you self criticize yourself until you wonder with no destination. What's your actual place? Where do you belong? Do you even need to belong somewhere?
Everything always feels one step away, but seems like life loves irony and you're taking 3 steps back. This drama showed best, real interpretation of mostly used phrase: life is a joke. Those who say it was a messy drama without straight plot and storyline, clearly watched it without learning a lesson and it's so sad.

Unlucky till the end
Unnecessary drama from the main male lead, but it is to be expected because of his childhood trauma and fear of abandonment so he leaves people first. Calling himself a drifter he just lives life without attachment, but in his final moments he realises that truly the things that make life worth living are the people he surrounds himself with, presented in the mother figure that adopted him, his business partner and his ex-girlfriend, who, is also a person without parents. Broken people attract each other. Even with an unlucky life, in the end the clover he found represented that his end was a lucky one to be with the one he loved. Was this review helpful to you?

OverHyped But Still Sad
I had high hopes for this show. The story was a sad story about 2 ill-fated individuals. Personally the main girl is annoying and very aggravating. Any scene with the man she was supposed to marry was hard not to skip, seemed like it had no point of the story. The mafia chasing them and them on a random island was very unrealistic. I understand the ML was conflicted on whether to be with the FL or not, but come on, it’s very toxic and unnecessary ….I won’t lie I did cry many times such as the dad story line, thier ill fated love story and the end obviously , you build a connection with the ML and feel bad for the things he had to grow through just in order to grow up with his family life and living a dangerous life. I also don’t understand when he met the man who raised him and why all of a sudden he wanted to see him. Also he like almost dies the first time and then is better all of a sudden…Maybe I didn’t pay attention enough, but personally it was very overhyped and unrealistic.

kinda tragic but pretty… dragging its feet like it’s walking through emotional mud
✨ THE GOOD (YES, IT HAS SOME):Visually clean. Mood on point. A couple moments hit so hard you go, “Okay damn, calm down.”
There is a soul in there. Somewhere. Usually crying too.
And when the drama works, it REALLY works — heavy, bitter, poetic type vibes.
🙄 THE “BRO, WHY SO SLOW?” PACKAGE:
The pacing is molasses in winter.
Some scenes stretch so long you start questioning your life choices.
It’s kinda dark, it’s heavy, it’s meaningful in a way… but holy f**k! does it take its time telling you.
🤦 THE “SOMETHING IS MISSING” ENERGY:
The show has tragedy, mystery, trauma, vibes… but not enough glue to hold it together.
Half the time you’re invested, the other half you’re like,
“Okay, but… why are we STILL here? Who’s steering the plot??”
💔 THE “IT WANTS TO BE DEEP BUT…” DEPARTMENT:
Sometimes it hits deep , or at least tries to .
Sometimes it feels like poetic sadness for the sake of poetic sadness.
Like a Tumblr quote with a Netflix budget.
(BTW it feels like nothing really happend by the end like the whole damn journey could've been one f**king movie at best)
🎯 FINAL VERDICT:
“A beautifully miserable slow-burn that could’ve been better waaaay better … if it moved faster, focused harder, and stopped zoning out mid-episode.”
✔ Watch if: You vibe with sad aesthetics, slow-burn trauma, and emotional noir.
❌ Skip if: You need energy, tight pacing, or characters who don’t stare silently for 45 seconds straight.
🥀 Best paired with: Dim lights, a warm drink, and the patience of a monk.
