Esprimi un desiderio (2026)

I taiwanesi ci dimostrano ancora una volta una particolare sensibilità nella realizzazione di serie boys love con Wishing Upon a Shooting Star, drama di 12 episodi disponibile su Viki con i sottotitoli in italiano.

Xian Yong, sopraffatto dalle difficoltà della vita e in crisi sul lavoro, torna nel suo paese natale. Qui esprime un desiderio a una stella cadente: che Xian Yong scompaia. E così accade.
Il giorno dopo nessuno si ricorda più di lui. È diventato uno sconosciuto agli occhi del mondo intero, fatta eccezione per il suo amico d’infanzia Wan Zhe che era presente quando esprimeva il desiderio. Anzi, lui stesso ne aveva espresso uno: vivere un amore.
Anche il suo desiderio sembra avverarsi e Wan Zhe dovrà capire se i sentimenti della persona che ha davanti siano autentici o frutto del miracolo di una stella cadente.
Per Xian Yong, dimenticato perfino dal padre e senza un posto dove andare, la situazione è ancora più difficile. La questione si complica ulteriormente quando Xian Yong rincontra Hao Wei, il ragazzo di cui è innamorato dai tempi della scuola, ma dal quale si è allontanato. Non solo è stato dimenticato dal mondo intero, ma si ritrova costantemente accanto alla persona di cui è innamorato, senza poter fare nulla, nemmeno rivelargli chi è realmente.
Eppure Hao Wei sembra inspiegabilmente attratto dalla nuova versione di Xian Yong.

Wishing Upon a Shooting Star non è un drama che parla soltanto di romanticismo, ma anche di crescita e accettazione di sé e dei propri errori. Come afferma lo stesso regista Ray Jiang (regista anche di We best Love e Unkwon) in un’intervista, può capitare a chiunque di fantasticare di essere qualcun altro, convinti che una vita diversa dalla nostra sarebbe in qualche modo migliore. Ma è davvero così? Una volta che ci siamo sbarazzati di ogni etichetta e di ogni costrutto sociale, cosa rimane di noi?
Per fortuna, anche se la memoria viene meno, i sentimenti e le emozioni continuano a esistere e forse Hao Wei potrebbe essere la chiave per risolvere la situazione. Xian Yong, d’altro canto, dovrà imparare ad accettare gli errori e le scelte fatte in passato, affrontandone le conseguenze.

Un drama romantico, ricco di scene intense e baci emozionanti, con attori bravissimi e ambientato nell’immaginaria isola di Xingpu: in realtà, la serie è stata girata nella magnifica isola di Liuqiu, conosciuta anche come Xiaoliuqiu o isola Lamay. Se proprio vogliamo trovarne un difetto, possiamo affermare che la parte fantasy non è gestita nel migliore dei modi, non spiegando in maniera esaustiva le dinamiche che scaturiscono tutto ciò, ma ci si passa sopra per tutti i motivi elencati sopra.
Una storia che ci insegna che i miracoli non sono opera delle stelle, ma delle persone, della loro costanza e del loro amore.

A fairy tale with a bit of confusion...

As usual the love-story started with a misunderstanding, which is of course nothing new. But how they went with it, was new for me... In the right circumstances a wish from a shooting star can become true. At least I did not expect going that way, because "He Xiangyong" wished to be forgotten. And that had massive consequences with his dad, friends and when he met his highschool sweet heart again. Only his childhood friend recognizes him and he fascilitates the second couple by kicking his friends butt, so to speak, something he could not manage in highschool himself.

The scenery is quite rural and is supporting the story. We got quite some nice scenery, especially the underwater footage in the finale. All the actors did a good job, especially the young versions of the MLs. The second couple had a dead fish kiss in the finale which makes me wonder, if they filmed the finale first, because of course the dumb intro did spoil the end - which I hate.

In the middle of the second half of the show, it gets a bit confusing, because "He Xiangyong" wakes up and something changed. First I thought it's not only his wish, but many wishes intersecting from people around him. But that's not the case, it's just confusing. But at least the God and his helper turn up to save the day. The background music is often offputting and makes no sense, especially when it has a comedic touch but the scene is serious or when a song is playing while a serious conversation is taking place. Of course I understand why they only went with one actor playing "He Xiangyong" and "Zhong Xiaoyou" but for me it would have been better if he really looked different for more immersion and that "Chen Haowei" fall for the second version because of his soul and character. At least it would have been more impactful. Also the "art" was left something to be desired, not good enough to be believable that "He" choosed this as his profession.

So overall a taiwanese production which was good and had some depth and a wonderful story also about two childhood friends. Compared to all the thai crap now airing, this was a refreshing story. Even with all the downsides I mentioned, it is still a good series.
