These Ahjummas Just Can't Mind Their Own Business, I'm All In!

Salon de Holmes is such an interesting drama! It’s about four housewives of different ages and backgrounds who live in the same neighborhood. When they meet, they form a strong friendship, but it’s not your usual tea time chit-chat group. These women come together to solve cases, some too small for the police to care, and others so big they make national news. It’s basically an ahjumma crime fighting squad, and it’s the perfect show to sip your tea with as they take down criminals!

The drama starts off with a comedy tone that had me laughing nonstop. But with each episode, it slowly shifts into something more serious, until by the end, it’s a nail-biter with barely any comedy left. I loved the pacing. It follows a “case-of-the-week” format while building a bigger overarching case in the background. Each episode had its own flavor, some more fun than others, but what I really appreciated was how every woman had her own strengths, and they could pull off things together that none of them could have done alone.

We have:

Kong Miri, the detective of the group, basically the Sherlock Holmes.

Gyeong ja, an ex-police officer with insane physical strength.

Park So hui, queen of part-time jobs (especially delivery), who knows everyone and everything about the apartment complex.

Ji hyeon, the kind mart worker with the biggest heart.

Honorable mention to Gwang gyu, the only guy in the gang (he earned it!), and the newly added Hyang hui, who came in with a bang.

Let’s not talk about the husbands though. They were just useless, always trying to look superior by putting their wives down. Miri’s husband especially got on my nerves, I don't think he deserves a second chance. They should’ve just divorced already. And his family? Ugh. Absolutely insufferable.

Anyway, Salon de Holmes is a must watch in my opinion. It's well written, well acted, super entertaining, and with only 10 episodes, it never feels like it's dragging.

If you’re in the mood for a short, funny, touching, and suspenseful drama with badass ahjummas being absolute legends, this one’s for you.

---

Some personal favorite moments (spoilers ahead):

.
.
.
.

Episode 1: The wonderful mart case. Hyang hui storms into the store with a weapon, demanding the woman who’s cheating with her husband (the mart owner) come out. The chaos that follows? HILARIOUS. All four leads just happen to be grocery shopping at the time, and they end up helping solve the case. It was such a fun, over-the-top way to introduce each character:

Miri’s sharp detective skills.

Gyeong-ja’s brute strength.

So-hui’s crazy-good memory for who's who.

Ji-hyeon’s sweet but firm kindness.

I was glued to the screen, laughing the whole time. Honestly, I should just rewatch it instead of trying to explain it!

Episode 6: One of my top favorites along with Ep 1. Gwang gyu gets wrongly accused of being a pervert by Miri, and then does everything to catch the real one, including dressing up as a lady at night! That scene?! Iconic. From the chase to the police station umbrella moment, I’ve got it memorized in my head. Pure gold.

Other things I loved:

The group’s friendship, including Gwang gyu.

Gyeong ja and her husband’s backstory.

So hui and her daughter, they were so sweet and sad at the same time.

That whole parking villain case? So fun.

Ji hyeon’s younger days love story with her husband, super touching.

Sherlock holmes

A Sherlock Holmes story, but with a housewife twist. I really enjoyed this drama. Honestly, I was looking the other way at first the story didn’t hit for me at all. But then I started watching it, and I was howling and cackling every damn time, especially with the gender switch (watch it to see what I mean).

The episode count? Only 10. I was not happy about that. I’m seriously hoping for a new season. The first episode had such an impact—I still remember it clearly. The characters and storyline were unforgettable. That twist with the killer? I did not see that coming

I really loved this drama! It’s super fun and light, and the female cast is absolutely beautiful. I loved the concept, but I didn’t like that it’s only 10 episodes. Why are Korean dramas suddenly going for short episodes?? Also, the last episode clearly isn’t the end, there’s obviously a season 2. I really hope it comes out soon, like in a few months, not a year later, or it won’t feel the same anymore. I wish they made it 16 or 18 episodes 😭. Ah, I’m sad that all my dramas ended this month.

Fun fantasy / real story of housewives going Superwomen

I like this drama. The characters and the issues are very real.... and it is portrayed with reality and comedy....
It is a makjamg FANTASY or some housewives turn Superwomen and for my taste there is too much murder blood fighting and violence - all the scenes of bloody dead people - so I fast forward.
But what is really really fun is the "koreanness" of it while being globally unversal "big city condo living" story .... Well on the second thought.... kind of.... There are no drugs that are ah too common in the west.... This is shall I say a NORMAL place, like what we are used to watching in kdramas and that is why I watch only kdramas :) ...

The characters are real and the twists are amazing. The husbands were rats to beging with and the women tolerated them... and then .... the rats became open and discussed.... and so the topic is really the status of women...

I like the FLs who are real women, with strengths and flaws, and who navigate FORWARD

It is empowering and it is fun. The FLs are not some angelic otherwordly beings, they are normal moms and wives .... with husbands who are not perfect either... or without a husband... with kids...

and they keep moving forward!!!!

I m curious what they will do with the husbands...

I LOVE Chu Gyeong Ja, i'd have given this an 8ish but she made it a 10 (the plot kept it from getting a real 10)

This could really do without the icky comedy, but the flow improved in the second half

My oh my gueiimbi baby is all grownup and still a great actress

the trash and parking was a drag, the bullying kid and the ahjummas helping him was so sad especially saying all 4 are his mom
and I appreciated how the husbands weren't cheaters, and they genuinely loved their wives that even though they were scared and wanted to help them, they also let their wives go crazy investigating without shaming them xD i'm glad non said "you're just a mom/housewife stop doing big boy police work"

At the start of ep8, I was like why is the therapist happy she didn’t see the killers face so I teased mom

Then when the small rat was caught and he looked at someone and smiled, and THEY SHOWER THE THERAPIST!
Me and my mom screamed xD
I was still teasing about the security guy but at the start of the ep I started thinking he must be a family member of one of the victims that’s why he’s studying the case so desperately
Tho I still sus the old security guard and if that’s true then the young security guy can be a copy cat fan

But the therapist seeing the small rat and then small rat receiving the book, tho again, young security guy is also literally writing a book

Anyways, if young security guy isn’t the killer she should divorce her husband and go for him cuz their chemistry was off the chart xD

We both did sus the old security guy. The dr last ep gave us a thrill of new hope that was soon demolished

But anyways I kept tasting her that young security was also his protégé tho it was last ep that after he got caught and they showed the letters I realized he was a family of a victim

Unless, they are trying to pull a scream to unsuspect the protégé xD
And old security guy was the one calling the cops on him, to get him arrested, or to get him unsused xD

my favorite genre is female centrist and mystery, but they didn't fully capture the right essence, one of my favorite dramas is avengers social club, the plot could seem nonexistent but their bond was beautiful, and no mystery has shocked me in a long time so old security guy was super sus from the start
as my mom said, every other suspect was "too young"

An awesome bunch of busy bodies

Hooked from episode 1, started with an engaging story and kept the other cases interesting. Each of the 4 main ladies bring their unique life stories and form a quick bond. I enjoyed it the acting, the smaller ones leading to the big story, very well done.

Watch if you are looking for a good watch, with a beautiful sisterhood, mysteries to solve, while to dealing with everyday life and past trauma. I loved that they kept me guessing who was the bad guy, I had to follow the story to get to the bad guy. Definitely give it a try.

They teased a second season and I'm not opposed to it.

mothers are mothering

This drama really surprised me with how good it was. The best way to describe it is: a hidden gem. It feels like an oasis in the desert (current kdrama landscape). the number of female-centered dramas seems to be decreasing every year like the population of pandas, and I find myself hunting for them more and more. this drama's strengths are strong leading ladies, solid storytelling, and high rewatch value which most of the dramas lack nowadays.
i recommend this to anyone who enjoys the mystery genre with a little bit of slice-of-life.
personally, i'm already looking forward to confirmed season 2.

It quite a wave favor from romance and high-school love stories

It's a refreshing and genuinely captivating drama series. It's quite unfortunate that the ratings are surprisingly low, especially given its extremely gripping plot. The ending revisits Mi Ri’s trauma, leaving viewers eager for a potential Season 2, which seems in high demand. What started as a simple family drama now concludes at a tense point where the four women confront the Ribbon killer and put an end to his sadistic reign. Both episodes featured chilling sequences that kept fans on the edge of their seats. While Mi Ri's husband bought a cafe, she was unhappy about being confronted by him. She wants to get the money back, but it's too late now. At the hospital, she finds out that her husband's medical condition caused him to leave his job as a gym trainer.
While Mi Ri and her group recover from the incident, they learn that the boy, Yul, was visited by someone he knew. He later smiles at a stranger, thanking him for the mess and the freedom.
Meanwhile, Mi Ri tries to find out more about the suicide her friend's mother committed. She suspects it might have been murder since her diary contained happy memories, yet her daughter had passed away. With her apartment and other clues, things are pointing to more complex truths. Gwang Gyu starts to notice something suspicious about his teacher that no one else has seen. He discovers that Mi Ri's aunt was killed by the Ribbon killer, who turns out to be none other than the senior security guard.
The guard was originally a teacher, but after the incident, he quit. His identity as a security guard was kept secret, but Mi Ri's friend's mother recognized him. Things seemed fine at first, but now Gwang Gyu has uncovered his true identity, and everything is about to change. The guard abducts Mi Ri's daughter and threatens to kill her. Meanwhile, Mi Ri acts like a culprit for not supporting her husband, and it's revealed that the guard is once again repeating things.

Salon de holmes

It started the way I thought I would rate it 7/10 but with every episode it got better, at some point I thought about 10/10 but 9/10 is very good rating and pretty fair.
I feel like it could work with one or two more episodes better.
All in all it was nothing what I expected, it was darker but at the same time had many comedic moments (also some scary - at least ghost/nightmares were, or maybe it was just me watching it before sleeping)
To sum up drama in general, there is everything - sad and happy moments, funny ones, scary and intence - so yeah totally worth watching. Actors were great, story was good, there is also a chance for second season (but still work without).
My reason for watching - Kim Sihyeon (my everglow girl!! go listen to their songs!!!) - she did great, I am happy that she was in almost every episode even if only for a short scene, I hope she gets new acting offers soon (if there will be second season - let's give her more screentime and invite the rest of group).
My only what if/or I wish of was some more romance, like Kim Da Som and Lee Jae Kyoon would make such a nice duo.
Hmm as far as I know there is no site with good subtitiles though, if you are fluent in english and know some korean words I think that you will work with what is avaiable, maybe someday there will be better translation - but still worth trying.

Upgrade neighborhood watch.

Something about this drama reminds me of Seoul Busters.Came across a reel of the scene of the supermarket hostage situation and i decided to watch it.They are upgrade of the neighborhood watch, solving cases in their neighborhood smartly. They never rashly tried to handle the cases but approached the situation with caution. When the women band together they are a force to reckon with and a menace to their opponents. There are certain comedic moments just had me doing a rewind especially the marriage of the ex policewoman and her cop husband.I think they did the minimart lady dirty by giving her older character a really old husband....By the time of writing this review there are rumors of a second season, hope they don't drop the ball on it.
