KHEMJIRA IS INDEED THE SERIES OF THE YEAR 2025??

We waited two good years just to get this show and trust me, believe me when I tell you that it has goated  beyond normal. it has exceeded, it has transcended all expectations because it was just that good. When I talk about Khemjira the first thing that comes to my head is love.  platonic love between friends, romantic love between lovers the love parents have for their children.
I tell you this show has described and it has pointed out too many good factors that literally shape our destinies.
The music, the casting, the plot, the storyline, that pacing like everything about this show is just God damn amazing 😍 😍 😍. I have to accept it at first I might have had my doubts but right now I tell you without reasonable doubts that Khemjira is indeed the series of the Year 2025.
Domundi got a fantasy series and you put it to it's best. There was nothing to complain about everything was perfect.
Shout out to the cast, shout out to the directors shout out to the fans, shout out to everybody who has made this show reach where it is.
Domundi indeed deserves it's place in the Thai entertainment industry and trust when l say that they have outdone themselves with this one❤️❤️❤️😍😍
Thank you so much and we are anxiously waiting for your next project.❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️💯💯💯💯💯💯

A truly life changing BL.

No spoilers here! Feel free to safely read this review.

When I originally saw the trailer for this show, the first thing that stuck out to me (someone who hates horror) is that I still found myself drawn to facing my crybaby scaredy cat personality to watch this BL.

For a "horror" show, objectively it's not scary! There are a few jumpscares, but most (if not all) are really predictable and can be quickly avoided! If you are a scaredy cat like me, don't worry! I think you'll be okay.

As for the show itself, the storyline is INCREDIBLE. Loss, Yearning, Passion, Strength, Charisma, Fear, Suspense, Angst, everything you could want in a show (except it being fluffy and upbeat, though our side couple helps there) is here.

Our main couple (Kengnamping) goes through so much individually and as a duo. Their story has so many twists, turns, and things trying to keep them apart. But having their own battles to face and choosing to fight hand and hand against them, even if it's not a shared problem? Yeah, I'm weak in the knees over them.

And our side couple (Tlefirstone) Oh my gosh LOL, they're incredible! I was unfamiliar with the actors prior to Khemjira but their chemistry is off the charts! I found myself smiling over them since the first episode. Their energy and relationship is so endearing. It's everything to me! They feel like a breath of fresh air with everything the main couple has to go through.

There are endless words I could say to express my love for this show so far, but all I ask of you is to give it a fair shot. Even with each episode being over an hour somehow I felt like each was just 15 minutes.

The music, acting, chemistry, storyline, and world building of this show is unlike any other show I've ever seen. The level of detail and cultural significance in Khemjira is also everything to me. A true 10/10 recommendation from me (which is few and in between when it comes to BLs for me.)

Boring dragging

This BL series promised a horror story well… they delivered, but not in the way you’d expect…

The story revolves around Khem, a boy born into a cursed family, and when he turns 21, he's supposed to die at the hands of the vengeful Ramphueng... I found the story extremely boring. Each episode is almost two hours long, but none of them have enough content to fill that time. This BL is that classic type, as deep as a saucer; none of the characters have a mother, father, grandmother, nephew, uncle, cousin, or even a dog. I know that in many BLs these family members can annoy us, but they help to fill the time... The story lacked both horror and romance, especially with the main couple, who have zero chemistry. Plus, neither of them can act, especially Namping. His character is supposed to be dying at any moment, but can you feel that in his expressions? Of course not In the middle of the story, he tried to justify that the 20-year-old character would not know how to kiss. but who at 20 years old doesn’t know how to kiss someone? I clearly didn’t buy that excuse. I hope this isn’t the next Pond and Phuwin from DMD... And this company loves to annoy the audience with that irritating trope in BLs, where one plays the bottom, always being saved by the other, who plays the top, the strong, stoic one with no apparent emotions. They’ve done this with Zeenunew and all the other couples from this company, zzzzz. The story is shallow and pointless. When they told the backstory of the character Ramphueng, I felt no empathy at all. I was already extremely irritated and tired of the whole thing. And what was Net’s character even doing in the story? The ending was completely anticlimactic and dull. I’d give it a 0. I would never watch this again.

Boring

First, I'll talk about the performances: Tle and FirstOne: they are far from Denzel Washington or Adam Driver's performances, but I think they didn't compromise and were the best part of this BL.

Keng: just a pretty face making a face like he ate something he didn't like the whole time, wooden performance.
Namping: played the character that gives the story its name, null performance, doesn't know how to show any kind of human emotion, anger, pain, suffering, joy. *He also doesn't know how to kiss, unlike other actors in that company.

Green Ausadaporn: definitely the best performance.

In my opinion, the problem with this BL is that it didn't have enough story to fill an hour-long episode. The character Khen is cursed and needs help to break the curse, but Keng's master character says he won't help for some reasons, which are the famous obstacles of romance stories, and even so, the character remains close to the master doing many nothing and annoying the viewer in the process. Very boring and tedious story. Then at a certain point we discover that they had some connections in past lives, so you wonder, are they together because of their past lives or not? It's the kind of cliché I don't like, it seems that the characters are together just because they had some kind of connection in the past.

A masterpiece ?

I wish there were more than 10 stars in the reviews. I would give it a 1000 stars if I could.
From the 1st episode to the last, there were no boring scenes. The acting, the cast, the production, the plot, ost, everything is top notch quality. Love love love kengnamping😍 and all the cast members. The final episode is a cinematic masterpiece. Such high quality BLs are very rare and very needed as well. Thank you so much Domundi for giving such a wonderful BL for us. My Saturdays will be so boring without Khemjira.

afraid that my standards will be so high after this

let’s be honest , one of the best BL series out there. very well done and such great quality, i’m so impressed:

-Interesting story, mystery, and a bit of horror (mostly ep 1 about jumpscares, later not much ), gorgeous mls.
-both the first and second couples got a good amount of screen time.
-a satisfying ending.
-i love how they focused on the characters as people, not just their romances. each character got their own time and space to be explored.
-CharnJet :i love their vibe together so much, so fun and adorable together.
-Ramphueng, I can never hate her. i really appreciate how they portrayed her as more than just a ‘villain.’ you can see her as a person, understand her pain and reasons, she almost made me cry two times.

i truly hope they make more bls with this level of quality , it feels so refreshing.

Episode 8 Made Me Write This Review

I don’t usually write reviews, but Episode 9 of Khemjira (the double episode / 2-hour special) left me no choice — it was that good.

This episode contained everything a BL watcher hopes for and more. Even though Khemjira is technically a horror BL, it hasn’t relied on jump scares up to now. Instead, Episode 9 was a perfect mix of funny, emotional, lovable, exciting and genuinely scary moments. It gave us progress in both the main leads and the second couple, revealed important backstory, showcased amazing chemistry, and still managed to end on a heart-stopping cliffhanger.

This is the episode that truly made the show. It reminded me why we all tuned into Khemjira in the first place — and why we’re proud to call ourselves Khemjira fans. 10/10.

Come for the yaoi, stay for the supernatural trauma symbolism

This was an okay show. It started very strong, with a story that was both intriguing and entertaining. The biggest problem with this was an unstable quality across the board from plot to acting, which diminished a good part of my enjoyment. This went back and forth throughout the show causing both frustration and confusion. But still, it had enough redeeming qualities to make the time spent on it, worthwhile.

First on the plot: So the story follows Khemijira who carries a centuries-old family curse on his back that will result in his death, once he turns 21. He already has terrible luck and ghosts follow him everywhere, trying to harm him. Desperate and inching closer and closer to his birthday, he and his best friend petition for a great shamanic master's protection but the master is reluctant, for unknown reasons.

Right out of the gate, the setup for the story is great! We have flashbacks across multiple timelines to help tell the story, we have ghosts and murder attempts, we have mysticism and spiritual rituals, and I would say the strength of this show was in its scenes of traditional practices and focus on religion and folklore rituals. When they worked with those elements, the show was a ten out of ten for me. Showing the vicious cycles of resentment, revenge and karma was brilliant here. Not only was it interesting to watch, but it was also executed with care and attention to detail. The ritualistic chanting was beautiful. The ways that karma is shown to be felt cross lives was enlightening. Even the simplest subplot about ghosts and karma was interesting enough and in "some" cases, it was connected to the main plot, so the story wouldn't feel stagnant. The thing that was dragging the show down, however, was the main plot!

So the romance plot: In my opinion, the romance was weak, underdeveloped, ham-fisted, and not engaging enough. The show does this very boring thing where we are told about a past connection between the main characters, and then no more attempt is made to make this romance work! There is no attempt to build a connection between these characters as they are now. There are only external elements pushing them together; a pre-destined connection, jealousy of potential rivals, and the forceful jeering of side characters. These are alright situational plot devices to draw characters together; however, the show needs to actually build a basic chemistry base for these characters, first. They barely talk to each other! The master is constantly avoiding Khemjira like he killed his pet kitten as a child, and Khemjira just cooks and cleans like a modern cinderella, giving kicked-puppy eyes to everyone but mostly the master, as if doe-eyes and a dream are enough to build a relationship around. The two of them are not put in enough one-on-one plot situations to build any kind of dynamic together. They are mostly kept away from each other in the main episodes focused on their romance which not only made those episodes drag with barely anything happening but also, just wasted those episodes because the curse-plot was sidelined and nothing was happening on the romance front, either. Well, unless we count the really boing romance between the supporting characters as development, which I don't. On that note, I did not like the second couple. It was just very forced. Their scenes bored me. Most of the romance was focused on their lame dynamic, and there was this sense of "this is gonna happen, anyway" to them which made it feel like this was not happening because the story was naturally headed in a romantic way but because this was a genre trope that could not be avoided. This was true for the main romance, too. There is an automatic feel to all of it. Like two great hands are grabbing these characters like dolls and smashing their faces together for a kiss. As a result, I did not enjoy the romance. I like my romances with massive build-up. I like them heavy on the conversations and building of connections, so when we are just expected to accept they are destined to fall in love, and no one actually tries to explain their attraction in any way besides "Pretty boy! Me kiss kiss!"...yeah, not my cup of tea!

To make matters worse, the actors had NO chemistry. I get it! They are handsome men! But you can't just put beautiful people together and call it a day! They were so awkward together. The actor who plays Khemjira is so obviously a tall and broad man, while the actor who plays the master is clearly lean and delicate in the features, and they tried SO HARD to make the master seem domineering and macho while Khemjira was delicate and dainty...and it was not working! I could SEE Khemjira slouch in on himself to appear smaller when the men were clearly the same height! lol (also his head was way bigger than the other actor which lol, doesn't mean much just...the doe eyes were not working!)This made everything feel so odd. Like, why are we making this giant man act like a sweet, feminine, tiny person?! It was just odd, and the effect was unsuccessful, which made Khemjira's character uncomfortable to watch. I wish they would just let the guy be an ordinary, not-dainty, but just kind and sweet, person. Which is how the show started, before the romance was introduced and how the book depicts him (heck yeah! I read enough of the book, to judge the show's adaptation skills, for it!) but once the romance starts, they start to feminize the character which while there is nothing wrong with more feminine male characters, it was just not working here!

None of this was helped by the fact that the core four main actors are bad at acting. There! I said it! I'm sorry. They could not act. They stood out like sore thumbs too because the supporting cast was good! The subplots about ghosts and folklore that made up the best parts of the show were the parts that mostly dealt with side characters, and I would say these supporting actors were doing the heavy-lifting when it came to acting. Even the child actors were better! I guess these guys were cast for their looks and to sell that yaoi aesthetic because they have to work a lot harder to sell...anything! The crying was awkward, the lovey-looks they gave each other made me cringe, the sex scenes were a torture to watch (weird choreos there, too), the line delivery was bad! I suffered! The acting was bad. Not the support cast, though. They were fine! Some of them were actually good! Not the mains, though.

I will say one good thing about the casting, the casting team's ability to find past lifetime equivalent actors who look so similar to the mains was astounding! The female counterparts of the male actors looked so similar to them that I was totally speechless! In fact, all of the production on this show was great. I will give them that. The multiple past lives were gorgeous and I loved those parts.

So, to sum it up, this show had 4 solid episodes of intense plot, focused on the curse and developing the base for the show. Then the next 4 episodes that focused on romance were boring, not good. Then from episode 9 onward, one episode would be amazing, and one would be lackluster. This level of unstable quality across the whole run of the show is what was slightly disappointing to me. However, I gave this show an 8 because I thought the good parts were very good and I was invested in the show thanks to them. Shoutout to my favorite character, Ramphueng. She was what held this show together. Vengeful, wronged, chaotic, yet pitiful. She was so compelling that you both felt for her and feared her and resented her actions all throughout the show. I honestly would have given this a 5 if the show had messed up the ending with her but the show ended the plot surrounding the curse so beautifully (at the 11th hour, too! lmao) that I raised my rating from a 7 to an 8, just because of how emotional it made me. The plot was dragged though...
I also enjoyed the past live plots. I will not spoil anything but what was happening there was told much better than the modern era. I liked those moments so much. I wish the show had been more focused on those lifetimes.
There is also plenty of fan-service after the main plot, which I know a lot of viewers will be happy about.

Overall: I do recommend this show! Weirdly enough, though I didn't like the romance, I loved the other parts of this show enough to recommend it. The production is great, and sans romance, the story is compelling too. It's not too scary either, as far as horror stories go, since the show breaks a lot of tension with cheap BL-exclusive humor. You will enjoy it even if (like me) you don't like horror.

Fun fact: There is a scene at the end when one of the characters just lists all the plot holes. Very funny! lol

KHEMJIRA SERVED what I wanted it to serve!

As someone who can usually finish a 40-episode C-drama in just two days, it took me just as long to finish Khemjira — and halfway through, I realized why. I was savoring it. Every scene, every emotion, every frame. It’s one of the rare shows I’d genuinely call a masterpiece, even beyond the realm of BL.

Khemjira feels like a perfect blend of The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. The early episodes gave me the kind of horror I crave — chilling, tense, full of well-timed jump scares — and as the story unfolded, it melted into something unexpectedly tender. It gave me all the feels and butterflies I didn’t expect. I found myself wanting more with every episode.

The production? Flawless. I can’t praise it enough. Every detail — the cinematography, color palette, and sound design — built the hauntingly beautiful world of Khemjira. And what’s even better is that everything inside that world — the acting, chemistry, plot, character design, and soundtrack — lived up to it. Nothing fell short.

Usually, even when I adore the side characters in a series, I don’t connect deeply with the second couple. But Khemjira was different. I loved everyone — every character, every relationship, every story it told. There wasn’t a single filler scene or unnecessary character, and I couldn't be more satisfied.

I honestly wish I could forget the entire show just to experience it from scratch again — because KHEMJIRA is a MASTERPIECE.

Wow… I’m speechless. This series captured my heart — a beautiful mix of friendship, love, and a haunting curse. I had high hopes, and it exceeded every one of them. Now my Saturday nights will feel a little emptier without it.

A contender for the best BL of 2025

Khemjira from the first episode had me hooked.

Beyond having an intriguing premise, it handles the subject matter maturely and Khem's emotional state given his day-to-day life of constant peril. Almost every episode has edge-of-seat action and storyline sequences, albeit there are a few episodes that this slows down primarily to flesh out the boys' relationship, but it quickly picks up where it left off.

However, none of the plot would have the emotional impact it did without the work of the cast. All actors felt extremely well-suited in their roles and captured their unique personalities very well. Namping especially delivers a phenomenal performance given the amount of range he had to portray episode to episode. The acting is A-grade and only enhances the immersion of the drama overall.

I also want to compliment the series for its inclusion of Thai culture, religion, and history. Although I'm no scholar on the subject matter, it gives the feeling that a lot of care went into its world-building and writing. The character of Rampheung especially just really embodied how much thought went into the writing.

It's hard for me to think of ways Khemjira could improve. Perhaps it could have benefitted from more substance in its less action-packed episodes, or hit more emotional beats than it did, but overall, this show is exceptional. The writing, the cast, the production value are all highly polished. It's hard for me to imagine another BL beating it quality-wise this year.
