I love the Mulan-like aspect of this strong female general. This drama is what hooked me into historical dramas and fighting. I loved the strength that Zhou Ye and Cheng Lei portrayed through their characters. The dynamic between the ML and FL was everything. Even when mad at each other, they always cared for eachother's well being. The balance between action, romance, and emotion was perfect. Such a beautifully done historical drama. I was literally hooked from start till finish, there was not one boring episode. I also love how the miscommunication didn't last like half the drama. Zhou Ye and Cheng Lei's chemistry is insane.

Entertaining

The poor reviews are really uncalled for. This series is genuinely entertaining, with strong chemistry and convincing performances from the main leads. The action choreography is exceptional, and it’s clear the actors put in serious training to handle the various weapons convincingly.

Yes, the storyline has its flaws and a few plot holes, but this is fiction after all. If you take it with a pinch of salt and enjoy it for what it is, it’s a fun and engaging watch rather than something to nitpick over.

I don't regret watching it

I'm not saying the story line and the script couldn't be better, it had space for improvement. but overall it was worth the watch. Specially the fight scene choreography was very good. I choose to watch wuxia due to its strong leads and martial art scenes and deep sayings of ancient chinese literature that they add in here and there. Although this one lacked the latter and due to some cutting, some parts felt rushed like the last episode battle, the fight scences were good. I enjoyed watching it. I don't enjoy overexagerrated and too unrealistic fight scenes with breathing fire and water and stuff in the fantacy genres :))).

Turn your brain off and enjoy

I came into this drama with no expectations and without reading any spoilers (very rare these days. )That said... I.Love.This.Drama! Perfectly balanced- action with light humor, romance with the right amount of angst, great villains, greater but vulnerable heroes. No bloated episode count keeps the episodes tight. Action and times of tenderness and friendship keep the drama moving without unnecessary plot points. I will re-watch again and again. Was it perfectly perfect? No. But in the high 9 range. Were there some cringey effects? Yes, but not too many. Well done drama crew and actors! Thanks subbing team!!

Slay Queen Meets Droopy-Eyed Prince ?⚔️⭐️

⭐️⚔️ "The Legend of the Female General

This drama was everything I hoped for and a little extra sparkle on top. The female lead; my tiny little firecracker star, carried the role with so much charisma, sass, and heart that I could not take my eyes off her. She’s tough when needed, soft when it counts, and always radiates charm. The male lead? Let’s just say those droopy, emotion-packed eyes of his could start wars AND end them 💔🔥. Sexy doesn’t even begin to cover it.
The chemistry between the two was so natural it felt like they’d been married off-screen too. No endless break-up angst (hallelujah 🙌) – just a small hiccup that got wrapped up quickly. I loved that we weren’t dragged through unnecessary tears. Instead, we got plenty of action scenes that were choreographed to perfection. Sword fights, battles, strategies – chef’s kiss 🍜⚔️.
The villains? Swiftly and satisfyingly taken care of ✔️ (none of that endless dragging where you yell at the screen, “Just finish him already!”). I also appreciated the emotional depth given to the second male lead. Yes, his jealous streak was the only “meh” filler part for me 😅, but hey, he redeemed himself after losing everything. Character growth is always welcome.

And the supporting cast deserves their flowers too 🌸🌸 – they nailed their roles and kept the drama rich and layered.

💬 Final Verdict: A solid, addictive watch with sizzling chemistry, strong leads, badass action, and an emotional core that hits just right. 10/10 for me. Would definitely rewatch the highlights again (and by highlights, I mean every time ML smolders with those droopy eyes 👀🔥).

Absolutely love this!

This is genuinely one of my favorite chinese dramas ever. Absolutely loved the acting of almost all actors and obviously especially the fl and ml, they had so much chemistry and they got cuter the more I watched.

On another side note, I truly believe that the last “plot twist” was so unnecessary, could have kept Chu Zhou, dude manipulated literally one of the most powerful people in the empire but could not think logically because he was ..”in love”? I do like that XingYing (I think that was her name) died because he didn’t appreciate her enough, all this time he was all about He Yan being special meanwhile his maid went to such extreme lengths for him and he was just like 🧑‍🦯

It deserves all the hype!

Zhou Ye was the perfect choice as the FL He Yan, and after watching series like "Word of Honor" and "Back from the Brink," I can safely say that she is not only a versatile actress but that she always takes her roles seriously. She is one of the few actresses I love to watch because I know her performance will be far more seasoned and balanced, and not to mention much more tolerable than the typical C-drama FL.

However, it was Ryan Cheng's performance as Xiao Jue that surprised me the most. Even though I remember him from the series "My Journey to You," he didn't quite leave an impression on me like he did in this series. He was a perfect fit for the role. Not only is he a superb actor, he's stunning to look at, and his aura was convincingly that of a military general.

To be fair, the entire cast did a stellar job. The plot is well put together (with a good balance of humor and suspense), and to say anything less would literally be nitpicking. While it's true that the pacing seemed to suffer a bit near the end (perhaps they were pressed to condense quite a few plot developments within just a few episodes), it was still quite enjoyable, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to pick up a good, solid C-drama in 2025.

The reason I gave it an 8/10 rather than a 9/10 is solely due to the pacing issues near the end.

As a side note (and I digress), every time I spot Bai Shu in a series, I can't help but wonder how the heck he's managed to feature in so many C-dramas within such a short period of time. Somehow, I can't unsee him as Lord Flying Snake from when I watched "Love and Redemption," which makes it so hard for me to take him seriously as a villain (He Ru Fei). He's also been in "Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils," "The Legendary Life of Queen Lau," "The Blood of Youth," "Dashing Youth," "Love of the Divine Tree," and "A Moment but Forever," just to name a few. I'm starting to think that whatever he features in turns to gold.

An impressive legend of a valiant female general!!

He Yan, takes the name of He Ru Fei, her elder brother, and becomes the valiant and extraordinary female general Feihong. Though forced to take upon her brother's identity for preserving the noble status of her family, she gets herself entangled in the conspiracy of Mingshui battle, that claimed the 30,000 lives of soldiers along with the general of Xiao army. Later she gets blinded, abandoned and killed by her brother, only to return back as He Yan and join Yezhou Garrison, to reclaim everything back and clear her name. Gradually, she earns the trust and support of Commander Xiao Jue, of Xiao army, who is investigating the conspiracy of Mingshui battle and thinks He Ru Fei has betrayed them. The latter part ends with investiigating criminals and bursting conspiracies.
Zhou Ye as He Yan is really tailor made for this role.
Her performance was fabulous👌
Cheng Lei is excellent as Xiao Jue. Their chemistry was very good.
All the actors delivered excellent performances and the action scenes were very good. All the war scenes were well choreographed and picturised.
The cinematography, costumes, music, plot, pace, everything were good.
Though the plot has some loopholes, it is still a worth watching drama that keeps you glued , imo.
On a final note, it is a very good drama 👍

BEHIND THE MASK - DIED - RESERECTION - REVENGE - HAPPY ENDING (✿^‿^)

One of the iconic cross dressing story ever the story was best from ep1 to 32 and last 4 episodes were kinda unnecessary. The actors did a great job as a action drama was not expecting any romance but u all know it's CHINESE DRAMA 😅. second leads also did a great job by delivering COMEDY part clearing out stressful situations over all it was a perfect mix of the action, romance comedy but there are some illogical parts in story they never revealed when ML discovered that she was a girl, I was laughing so loud that they can't even recognise a girl. Let's talk about the enemies they heardly did anything to harm the main leads every schemes was exposed badly 😂 and at some point our female lead just Guessed the enemy's plain and disrupted it thay were actually cheikens one is old and another is stupid also that old chancellor he trusted his disciple too much he never expected that his disciple will betray him for a girl (female lead) 😂😂😂 (for country) at the end they overwhelmed by the shear power of the 2 powerful generals. I would like to talk about the REVENGE plot of our female lead it was short she killed the right hand man of that fake general (her step brother) I was thinking that she will kill him but it was our emperor who send him to the hell at the end 😅 as saying goes TRUTH TAKES TIME TO REVEAL and CLOUDS CAN'T HIDE SUN FOREVER.

BTW if you read this review till here I recommend you to watch this story it's till 32 episodes and directly last episode because 33 34 35 episodes are kind of unnecessary

THANK YOU SO MUCH 🥰🥰

The Confession Scene Really Stole My Heart

I just finished watching Legend of Female General, and I’m still not over it! I absolutely love everything about Xiao Jue and He Yan—their healthy relationship, their longing for each other, their fights, their love… everything. Their confession scene? Still gives me butterflies. Honestly, it’s one of the best confessions ever.

One of my favorite episodes is when Xu Jingfu and He Rufei are exposed. That moment when He Rufei summoned the Fuyue Army, but it turns out the Emperor had already ordered the Nine Banner Battalion to be on standby? Absolute genius. Another favorite is, of course, the iconic confession:

“I love the moon, but the moon doesn’t know.”
“Do you still like the moon?”
“Yes.”
“Now, the moon is yours.”

I will engrave this line in my heart forever, haha.

And then there’s the scene where Xiao Jue is about to propose to He Yan—it was so sweet, I felt like I was the one being proposed to! That sweetness didn’t last long though because Chu Zhao had to show up right after 😌.

Actually, the BEST scene might just be when He Yan came to help Xiao Jue at Mingshui, fighting the Wutuo Army. I love how this scene really reinforced the “Female General” title. The action sequences, especially Xiao Jue and He Yan fighting together, were top-tier. Another heartbreaking moment was when Xiao Jue had to deliver the imperial decree for He Yan to marry Chu Zhao. Ugh, my heart.

Shortcomings

As much as I love this drama, there are a few things that drove me crazy:
1. He Rufei’s Confidence – Where on earth did this man get his confidence from? 😂 He really thought he was better than He Yan just because she used his name and earned the title of General Feihong. At least He Yan worked her way up from zero, despite him trying to kill her.
2. Chu Zhao’s Character – I was so frustrated with him! Why did he even get promoted? Give me three good reasons why he should rise in rank—especially to military supervisor! He can’t even fight a basic battle. He just simply being there, and there you go, a promotion for you.
3. The Emperor’s Weakness – The Emperor started off fine, but once he got brainwashed by Chu Zhao, I just wanted to punch the screen. Honestly, if they had skipped the whole arranged marriage between He Yan and Chu Zhao, the story would have been so much better. And come on, Xiao Jue and He Yan were loyal to a fault—if they wanted the throne, they could’ve taken it ages ago. I wish this Emperor was written more like the one in Love Like the Galaxy. That Emperor remains the best.
4. Character Deaths – Why did they kill off Yan He? 😭😭 That broke me. And Chu Zhao’s attendant too? She knew martial arts—she could’ve easily dodged that knife! Sure, her death made Chu Zhao realize things, but still… On the bright side, I’m relieved Feinu survived—usually writers love killing off the male lead’s right-hand man.

Other Thoughts
• The marriage between Cheng Lisu and Song Taotao? Extra, but I loved it 🤣.
• Xiao Jue’s brother and his wife? Adorable.
• He Yan’s teammates? Love them all.
• The fight scenes? Incredible!
• He Yan being “too small” to be a general? Doesn’t bother me at all. Don’t judge a book by its cover.

Despite all its flaws, this drama is now one of my favorites. Xiao Jue and He Yan really carried this story. I love Cheng Lei from My Journey to You and Zhou Ye from Back From the Brink. They truly have amazing chemistry, and I’d love to see them together again. Their acting was outstanding.

Also, the OSTs are beautiful—I’ve been replaying them nonstop. I’d rewatch this drama, though I’d probably just skip to Xiao Jue and He Yan’s scenes. 😍

Perfect if you're looking for romance!

This was my first historical drama and I think it was about time! What a revelation! I watched it in less than a week because I was so hooked.
I already knew the actress Zhou Ye, but the actor Cheng Lei was new to me.
I really liked his acting, especially his ability to convey emotions through his eyes. And he’s so handsome!
Their chemistry is off the charts, it was magical. And I have to thank the producers for the OST. For me it's one of the best in dramaland.
The costumes are stunning, the sets too, it makes me want to look into Chinese history.
And since I love revenge stories, I absolutely loved it. I really recommend it!

But if you're looking for a drama which is more serious, with convincing antagonist this is not the one.
It is really a romance drama.

wasted potential...

Two good actors with great Acting skills and chemistry for a boring un logical script, wattpad cringy romance level, I dropped when they started to pretend to be a married couple because I just can't... the title is so misleading and I don't understand how came anyone didn't instantly recognize the the FL character is a women. the reincarnation plot with changed from the novel into a complete nonsense due to censorship. it was one of my most waited dramas for 2025 but unfortunately it was wasted. not recommend. 5/10 is only for zhou ye and cheng lei.
