Gorgeous wigs, costumes, CGI and drama!
There is the plot...And then there are Luo Yunxi's aka Tang Lici beautiful black and white wig, the gorgeous costumes, the CGI and his eyes and expressions.
I'm sooo in love with Luo Yunxi in this drama! How can someone look so beautiful and have such a gentle voice while being arrogantlol how?? His Holy Son costume and makeup was sooo fab! I think I'm gonna end up watching all his other dramas just cause of this infatuation lmao!
Every single one of Tang Lici costumes are sooo freaking beautiful! The colors, the makeup, the hairdo, the accessories! Everything is so pretty!
The white/grey hair wig and the black and white hair wig, both are just so gorgeous and look sooo good on Luo! I just can't get over it!
Just like 'Till The End of The Moon' drama and its character Tantai Jin, who was complicated, this drama and its character Tang Lici has so so many layers, and Luo Yunxi has mastered it all!
It felt like Tang Lici was the character specially crafted for Luo Yunxi! I can't imagine anybody else playing A'Li but this guy! His acting is on a whole another level with Tang Lici! He truly became one with character!
And all the side characters bring in their own flavors to the mix, and go along well with Tang Lici character.
I haven't read the novel yet, but I'm hoping the stay true to it.
If you're looking for high end fantasy, handsome faces, anime-like CGI and fighting scenes and Luo Yuxi fantastic acting, you gotta watch it!
Rewatch: 10/10

A real gorgeous gem very much underated in MDL.
This drama is stunning. We have here a wonderful story around friendship/ brotherhood that we gradually discover through the storyline without being dragged in boring details. The acting is so good with a special mention to Leo Luo who is acting so majestically, he fits so well in this kind of Fantasy roles and here he is stealing the limelight, and his talent really carries the show. The OST is also stirring with appropriate and entertaining pace. I also like the fact that we don’t have the show wasted in tedious love story for once. Was this review helpful to you?

Well written and acted complex characters
Hats off to Alen Fang! He plays an astounding and exquisitely deranged character so well in Whispers. His acting has surprised me. Don't do a Heath Ledger, Alen! The story is excellent. The back story is revealed bit by bit. The bad guys are truly evil with twisted ambitions, while the misunderstandings, betrayals and the compromised characters are very well done.

Happy for all but one
The story shows great character development, you can see the MC change from being weary and not trusting everyone to someone who was willing to make believe in the good in everyone. The story would have been perfect if not for the ending. I believe for someone who has gone through so much they deserve a bit more. Now we are left feeling empty and asking ourselves would you make the same decision the MC did? I guess there was not much left of anything if he didn't.Great story telling, great character development, good flashy CGI, lots of plot twists.

It was about a philosophy rather than about a story
idk tbh. It wasn't an exciting story about a mysterious man that solves world hunger. It was a story about a man. That was all. Not about who he was, but about why he became the way he was and learned to let go. It was incredibly beautiful and calming but I did get bored. But not because it was bad. Simply because it was not exciting. Nor was it meant to be.It didn’t create anticipation or excitement around his past. It just revealed his past to explain him. Not to be dramatic, but to explain a mindset, explain a person. There was no “omg this dude is a god” cuz that wasn’t the focus. It focused on his personal journey in a way that made it less grand. The ending didn’t hit that hard, it was just kinda like "huh" because everyone already died. It made sense tbh. I have ADHD and if it ain’t gripping then it ain’t gripping, but it was really good and made me think more than most other shows. It’s just a story about a man and perhaps about oneself.

Luo YunXi Slays Again!
In Whispers of Fate, Luo Yunxi delivers a controlled and sincere performance, showing subtle emotions and strong screen presence. Some scenes are limited by the script and editing, but he remains the drama’s most compelling element. Even when the script gives limited layers, Luo Yunxi maintains stable chemistry with co-stars.He doesn’t overshadow them but also holds the emotional center of the drama.

When Love and Power Collide
Episode 15 of Water Dragon Chant feels like a flame long hidden beneath the ashes — suddenly blazing to life. The clash between emotion and duty hits its peak, and every move from the characters carries the scent of either betrayal or sacrifice. This episode finally peels back the layers of hidden tension; every glance is charged with secrets. Luo Yunxi once again delivers a masterful performance — calm and composed on the surface, yet a storm of pain and doubt brews inside him.
The director keeps the pacing sharp and deliberate, weaving poetic visuals with mounting tension, like a sweet poison that seeps into the viewer’s heart.
Episode 15 isn’t just a dramatic high point — it’s the moment we realize that in Water Dragon Chant, nothing is accidental. Every choice comes with a price.

It stars Luo Yunxi, who has been one of my favourites since Ashes of Love. Once again, he does not disappoint. His portrayal of Tang Li Ci is remarkable—transforming from a broken, traumatised refugee to a near god-like figure. The emotional range he delivers, from vulnerability to quiet triumph, is impressive. In many of his previous roles, such as Ashes of Love and Till the End of the Moon, he plays similar diverse roles from lowly figures to powerful, divine characters, and this drama continues that trend—yet still feels fresh.
Alen Fang also deserves special mention for his intense performance as Liu Yan. His portrayal of obsession and delusion is convincing and, at times, unsettling.
The cast overall performs strongly and is visually appealing. The storyline is refreshing—moving away from the usual gods-versus-demons formula common in Chinese fantasy dramas. The CGI is impressive, the fight sequences are visually striking, and the costumes are stunning. Luo Yunxi, in particular, seems to glide effortlessly from one elegant costume and hairstyle to another.
That said, the drama does echo elements of The Untamed, especially with musical instruments like the qin and flute used as lethal weapons. I even checked whether they shared the same writer—but they do not.
What truly hooks the audience is the central mystery: what really happened in the past, and who exactly is Tang Li Ci? Is he truly YiQue YinYang?
The story is intriguing. An ancient tribe developed the Rebirth Scroll—a mystical technique granting rapid healing and extraordinary power. These near-immortal beings ascended to form the TianRen Realm, leaving behind ShenZhou, their earthly home. However, history takes a dark turn when a TianRen (Celestial Being)—Ye Mo (also known as Yi Que Yin Yang)—descends to earth, is mistreated by humans, turns rogue, and brings devastation upon the land.
Beyond fantasy, the drama mirrors real-world dynamics in a surprisingly sharp way. Both Tang Li Ci and Liu Yan are deeply tied to Fang Zhou, almost like devoted followers of a political figure. Their conflict stems from this attachment. Liu Yan, convinced that Tang killed Fang, clings stubbornly to this belief—even when evidence suggests otherwise. His judgement is clouded not only by manipulation from the sinister Ghostly Peony, but also by his own jealousy and personal dislike. It is a powerful reminder of how easily bias shapes perception—we often believe the worst about those we resent.
What appears to be an intense rivalry between Liu Yan and Tang Li Ci gradually reveals deeper layers. There are unseen forces at work—manipulators pulling strings behind the scenes.
The internal dynamics of the Sword Alliance are also strikingly realistic: resistance to change, suspicion of rising talent, and vulnerability to corruption. Despite clear threats, they struggle to adapt—something that feels all too familiar in real-world organisations.
One weakness of the drama is its pacing. The prolonged conflict between Liu Yan and Tang Li Ci—especially when it extends beyond episode 22—can feel repetitive and slow. Liu Yan continually sets traps to prove Tang is YiQue YinYang, and while the clues (such as the Rebirth Scroll and the forehead mark) are compelling, the lack of progress can be frustrating. However, the story improves significantly as the mysteries begin to unfold later on. Tang’s ambiguous behaviour—such as his occasional admission to a crime he may not have committed—adds another layer of intrigue.
Emotionally, the drama delivers. A particularly heartbreaking moment comes with the loss of one of Tang’s loyal companions and also a strong supporter. Meanwhile, the larger conflict escalates: the TianRen Realm, facing decline, seeks to reclaim ShenZhou—at the cost of annihilating its current inhabitants. Ironically, in trying to survive, they risk their own destruction.
The story raises a profound question. Tang is determined to save his adopted earthly homeland and those he grows to love—but it ultimately becomes a choice between one race and another. Is survival always a zero-sum game? Must one side perish for the other to live?
This dilemma reflects the real world all too closely. Wars are often fought for dominance, not coexistence. Coexistence is often overlooked, and solutions that benefit all remain elusive. The unwillingness to understand or support the “other side” reveals a deeper human flaw—self-interest at its most destructive.

A Visual Epic of Redemption and Destiny
Whispers of Fate is a fantasy wuxia drama that combines martial arts and mystical elements to tell a story of betrayal, redemption, and destiny. It follows Tang Li Ci, a swordsman gifted with a rare “sound-kill” technique, who is wrongly accused of a massacre and forced to clear his name while uncovering dark conspiracies among sects and immortals. The drama stands out for its breathtaking visuals, including cinematic fight sequences and magical effects, as well as its emotional depth, with Luo Yunxi delivering a powerful performance that captures both vulnerability and strength. Across its forty episodes, the series balances intense action with heartfelt character arcs, making it a visually stunning and emotionally resonant tale of fate and sacrifice. Was this review helpful to you?

Worth watching!
Well, I don’t like really much Luo Yunxi at first. I first saw him in Till the End of the Moon. Then I started to like his acting. In this title, no word is enough to describe how he is excellent . I felt a lot of emotion , the fact that I like this drama. It’s not a romance and that makes it more attractive and unique. Maybe it has a happy ending but for me a tragedy one. All actors and actresses are stunning and fantastic. Give stronger emotional wave. Watch it and feel it.Was this review helpful to you?
